According to legal authorities, Disney violated the Sunshine Law when they met to set up their contract. Their agreement would not have stood up in court because of it.
According to other legal authorities DeSantis and his gang violated the law when they voided a legal agreement that was passed by Florida and Disney back in the mid 60’s. The thin skinned troll 🧌 should of just said “I don’t agree with Disneys point of view but this is America and everyone is entitled to their opinion”. But no! The right wing troll 🧌 had his feelings hurt and said “waaaaa, I’ll show Disney who’s boss!”. Quick note. The boss is still Mickey and once he gets humiliated in court right wingers (like you) can go and start whining about something else.’
Look at the left wing troll all butthurt over Ron Desantis.
Disney’s job is top make money for its shareholders, not have an opinion. A job is not doing so great at, hovering at around half the price it was in March 2021.
The way to maximize profits is to maximize their consumer base. You do that by welcoming every one regardless of race, creed, religion or sxual orientation.
It doesn’t seem like it should have been legal for Desantis to do this in the first place. Having the government take over a company because you didn’t like what they were saying?
Sounds like a freedom of speech issue, this isn’t China.
So um I don’t know if you’re just uninformed but Desantis hasn’t take over Disney. He nulled a land contract that was established in the 60s that basically allowed Disney to function independent from the entire state of Florida and the main reason for this is because in the 60s there wasn’t infrastructure so Disney needed a way to build so they created the Reedy Creek contract
Disney has their own fire rescue, their own police, their own roads and signs, etc. Now why is this an issue? Well let’s see Disney is a private company that owns 40 square miles in the middle of the state. The Reedy Creak contract allowed Disney to develop and expand quickly without government red tape. Now that Reedy Creek is nulled instead of just doing whatever they want they have to go through the proper channels with an oversight board for development like the other theme parks. This needed to happen and probably would have happened while Desantis was Gov. Just think 40 square miles of private property smack dab in the middle of Fl that has been able to govern themselves for decades and make billions.
We need to respect each other and not demonize people or organizations. People have enjoyed Disney for years and should have the opportunity to continue this
The issue is because DeSantis’s itty bitty feelings were hurt the people of Florida are going to have to pick up the slack of the taxes which Disney will not have to pay anymore to Florida since DeSantis’s cronies null & voided the contract with Disney.
Disney, as a corporation, has a legal right to express an opinion. We do not have to like it or ageee with it. Most corporations do this with public statements or political contributions. What’s more, Disney legally published notice of its public meeting. Because FLA did not attend is no fault of Disney’s. FLA government, in general, & Ron DeSantis, in particular, were legally & very publicly out-maneuvered. Kudos to them. Now, FLA residents will foot the bill for DeSantis’s tantrums. Personally, I’m rooting for the Mouse (& I am not a liberal).
Well said! Disney has a right just like everyone else to have an opinion, but of course DeSantis doesn’t think so. DeSantis has been acting more like a dictator more & more each day. Now his minions in his government are calling the statue of David pornographic because a couple people complained because their children in junior high were shown a picture of the statue while they were talking about renaissance art. DeSantis is nothing but a high school bully who never grew up. Disney will win in the long run. Otherwise the people of the Orlando area will see their taxes soar because of DeSantis’s temper tantrums
Your argument is void of facts. The Disney aggression is pointed at sexualizing young children. There is no restriction on sexual identity at the border of the state. Neither has the state government sought to do so. Children need to be taught sexual identity from their family. That is the point of the spear. There is no “don’t say gay “law on the books in Florida. That is a contrived label attached to the legislation by leftists.
@Phillip, Disney as a corp had to speak out vs Desantis & his “Don’t say gay” law because they fo have employees & customers that are gay in their parks & offices.
Anyone not part of a political team can see this for what it is. Pure abusive of power. Using his office for political purposes only. Rhonda DeSantis is a tiny thin skinned man with a Napoleon complex.
You are so correct. DeSantis is a child stomping his foot because he didn’t get his own way and decided to retaliate against Disney because he didn’t get the money he thought he was going to get. Go for it Disney! We’re behind you!
DeSantis needs to grow the hell up . Because someone disagrees with you you don’t put others livelihood in danger.he is a Brat and and I think a little sick in the head.
Every one the right to an opinion this is a free country Disantis just didn’t like their opinion so what grow up there other problems that need more energy than someone’s opinion
Well Disney should not have special power that their competitor don’t have the same adventage,Disney should stay out of pushing the left agenda and stay neutral and keep their objective on entertaiment
Desantes has some issues dealing with anything that goes against him reigning himself as king. Florida residents will lose their tourism money if this keeps up. We haven’t been back to Florida since he has become governor. He’s not a governor and the rest of the GOP who gerrymandered there way in will eventually regret the actions they took. Florida take your state back and get rid of Desantes and the others that have their head up Desantes arse.
The unfortunate fact is that your Supreme Court decided that corporations have the same rights to free speech as you or I.
So which is it then ?
Maybe little DeSantis should go crying to his Supreme Court cronies to change that law back.
Disney did not break sunshine laws. That just another fallacious assertion made by tyrant DeSantis.
And anyone that disagrees with you is a troll huh ? Really !
Citizen United (Austin v. Michigan State Chamber of Commerce) social conservatives argued that corporations are people too. So corporations can donate unlimited amount of money to Republican super pac and enjoy all rights people have. So you can’t have your cake and eat it too.. repeal citizen United and everyone on the left will tell Mickey to shut it.
I 100% agree . Maybe Disney should just pull out of the state and see how much the state will lose in revenue. And then the big bad the governor can only put the blame on his self
If they decide to leave out of Florida, Orlando will be in big trouble. There are those who think it’s not possible but there are so many other states that will love to offer Disney a deal to see tourism blossom in that state.
If Disney slows down investments and improvements in Disney World, then the Mouse will be on the hunt for a new home. Until then I hope Disney continues to be concerned about social issues it’s employees are subjected to. Any business currently operating in Florida or considering coming to Florida should be looking long and hard at DeSantis. Companies do not like environments that DeSantis is creating. I hope these companies channel their support away from him, he is bad for their business objectives.
Proof we support the first amendment and the government not bullying or harassing citizens for exercising their rights. You don’t get to frame this however you please, you don’t get to decide my motives or thoughts. Why are conservatives so convinced they know how everyone thinks when they are usually completely wrong?
Couldn’t have said this better myself.. All this does is makes sure they pay their fair share like the rest of the them parks .. lol but imagine that they love big Corporations
You do understand that Disney took care of everything themselves which saved the tax payers a shit tonne of money. If Rhonda-santis has a say the tax payers are footing the bill for all infrastructure services
Perfect answer. DeathSantis is a useless slug that is brazenly throwing his weight around; misusing his office for political revenge. He’s gonna lose. Disney can afford better lawyers…
Corporate Disney is a left wing political appendage that mistakenly believes the fringe alphabet groups with a wide range of abnormal sexual deviant platforms will keep people like Obama, Biden, Harris, Pelosi, AOC etc in power. JFK would roll over at what the Dems have turned into. The sleeping giant known as middle america will awaken and spit out the woke agenda and purge the Congress of all the corrupt socialist synchophants.
OK, woke literally has no meaning, and yet people keep tossing it around like they know what it means. Even the psychopathicDictator Desantis thinks he knows what it means, and it has no definition.Stop using words that have no meaning.
The right wing “troll” only took reedy Creek away once the mouse decided it would not longer give political contributions
Funny how so many articles fail to mention that part.
Disney messed with the politicians money so the politicians messed with Disney’s money.
It’s not hard to understand.
You are so correct. DeSantis is a child stomping his foot because he didn’t get his own way and decided to retaliate against Disney because he didn’t get the money he thought he was going to get. Go for it Disney! We’re behind you!
Calling Dems guilty of sex trafficking of minors takes away from the important work of actually saving kids from real sex trafficking. You ought to be ashamed of your contribution toward adding confusion to the important issue of protecting children.
Really! Your favorite fox news person was just fired for spreading that exact same garbage.
DeSantis moves have all been for political browny points. Thank God it has all went south on him. Mark Rubio is trying to cover for DeSantis because they are all about party over people. However, DeSantis behavior will drive business away from Florida.
Dude, you can’t keep using the same goofy insult over and over ESPECIALLY when a bunch of your right-wing pals openly praise Putin and oppose assisting Ukraine.
The governor seems more interested in running Florida as a fascist regime than a state. When did the GOP go after businesses because they voiced disagreement over a policy? Doesn’t that betray the 1st amendment the GOP always believed in or is it now, do what I say, believe what I believe or else. The phoniness the governor is throwing out about Disney paying their fair share in taxes is just smoke since they pay currently over a billion dollars a year in state taxes. DiSantis reminds me too much of other leaders in the world who said “My way or else”. Mussolini does come to mind.
DeSantis seems to be abusing his power. Why is he only going after Disney’s special tax status? No other places with a special tax status is being harrased. There are a lot of places in Florida with the same special tax deal and not a word from DeSantis about them. What about the Republican owned Villages special tax status? Lots of illegal stuff with the Villages happening and they get away with it. This seems like a personal vendetta of DeSantis. Doesn’t matter what your politics are for this to be a scary scenario.
Completely agree. As a lifelong Florida resident of 66 years, I think it’s worth noting that for the 50+ years of its existence no previous Florida governor of either party had any issues with Disney or Reedy Creek. Which makes the timing of Desantis’ current attacks more than obvious as entirely political. As yet, he’s not provided taxpayers with a single positive benefit of all this expensive litigation.
Honestly between harassing Disney, spending hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars to fly illegal immigrants from Texas to Massachusetts by way of Florida and using his puppet legislature to rewrite state law to allow him to run for president whilst still being governor it’s a wonder Desantis has time to gad about the country on all these “not a campaign” visits.
Disney is not a “person with an opinion” it’s a business with its huge base in CA trying to tell FL how to govern,or better said weighing in hoping for more pull.
There is nothing in the bill they stated that says anything like they claim. And anyone who thinks its ok to discuss gender fluidity with K-3rd graders needs to check their brain. Discuss it at home if thats your way but at school k-3rd grade ? Not the place. Sorry. It was ridiculous for them;Disney to jump on that.
I feel De Santis has some authoritarian leanings and with so many books being banned , there may be free speech issues coming. I think like Trump he is sometimes trying to operate outside of the Constitution. Personally I think Disney should work out a deal with Georgia or some other state happy to have them and move. I know it’s a big move but it could be done and with the sale of all that land in the Orlando area, Disney will come out ahead. With 80,000 more Floridians out of work, I think DeSantis will be dead in the water for any political future.
I hate what desantis is doing to Disney. It is an absolutely beautiful place to go. Run impeccably Now he has taken 2 million of taxpayers money and given it to his crone law firm to find his loop holes. Why is he ruining a great thing just because they took exception to his way of thinking. I hope and pray Iger and Mickey slap him down good
Don’t think DS us astute enough to be a good politician never mind a POTUS. He doesn’t recognize the Ukrainian crises and would let the Soviets rule Europe. He needs to go back to training to understand the intricacies of international relations and finance. Never mind being a Republican and going against the sweetheart if corporate America. Too bad I was hopping Republicans would be smarter by now after the Trump debacle.
The Supreme court ruled in the 1960’s that Disney deal of providing for roads and other things in the district was constitutional and by DeSantis doing what he doing if Disney not footing the bill the taxes payers will now watch flordia Taxes go up because of what he did.
And the left wing trolls continue with their brainwash about Mickey Mouse topics.
30 years allowance to develop un impeded by Florida statutes is pretty darn generous. Now it’s time to end the preferential treatment and be given the same allowance other Florida businesses adhere to.
This whole thing is unconstitutional.
Ron has been clear that he’s doing this because Disney is ‘woke’. That’s government retaliateing against a company for purely political reasons. They’re allowed to have an opinion that Ron doesn’t like, and Ron can’t just take government action against them for that.
I’ve been wondering why Disney hasn’t done this yet; it is an open and shut case.
Well little Ronnie is in for a big fight and the tax payers will pay for it, DeSatan is a Rat that is about to face a reality check and guess who will be paying the bill for his legal fees? Yep Floridians, he is making a complete ass out of himself and I am waiting to see the end results.
The Govenor needs to stop this childish sparring with the states largest employer and govern the state. Bullying a well respected and beloved corporation because of differing points if viw shows he’s not good for America ir Florid.
The voters of Florida overwhelmingly are against the radical left and their alphabet mafia.
Parental rights are absolutely required in this day and age. The children are NOT safe in Public schools, they are indoctrinates into believing that it’s ok to be evil and bad to be good with integrity and to believe in Capitalism.
Disney the corporation didn’t give a rats ass, but their loud obnoxious Alphabet Mafia employees (Bolshevik activists) whined and complained that they should be able to overrule the votes of Floridians who voted overwhelmingly for Desantis because of the Parental Rights issue.
Disney was intimidated by their activist employees (There are significant numbers of Disney employees who wholeheartedly agree with the Parental rights bill as well) and threw half or more of their employees under the bus and because they are pushing what most people clearly see is a Dark Agenda designed to make children obedient to the state above all else including their own families as they are bombarded with Radically anti human alphabet mafia propaganda.
Disney is playing the role of the Galactic Empire in this case and the people of Florida and Ron Desantis are the Good guy Rebels fighting for Good and light to prevail over darkness and. Evil.
Your ignorance is proof that the right-wing attack on public education that’s been occurring fir decades is working. It has nothing to do with values and everything to do with profits and privatizing education which will only benefit the well off and make the wealth gap even worse. It’s not about socialism its about having a society where crony capitalism doesn’t take over. Look at all the crooked contracts DeStasi has given out. How often DeStasi has violated people’s 1st amendment rights. How much DeStasi’s mega donors have benefitted from his governorship. It’s a complete racket he has successfully run by holding up shiny objects, in the form of culture war nonsense & grievance peddling, and pulling corrupt influence peddling behind closed doors. The fact more people don’t see his BS for the Fascism it so obviously represents is appalling. If you are a Christian and don’t see that what right-wingers are doing is evil you need to go back and read the book you supposedly hold so dear.
I couldn’t have said it any better!! This person says DeSatan won by a landslide, but they forget to mention how DeSatan overruled our non partisan redistricting committee the voters of FL put into law to make sure our votes always counted & he gerrymandered the districts so much, there wasn’t any way he could lose if he tried. He didn’t win because an overwhelming amount of Floridians voted for him.
There’s ample evidence that’s not true and postings of the meeting where in the papers and posted according to the law. DeSantis lawyers want you to believe they violated the law.
Disney dud NOT violate any Sunshine Laws. They held 2 public meetings. They announced intentions in a large public paper. They had residents from said small cities in attendance. It was the Stste of FL, DeSantis, who held meetings behind closed doors so Disney was not aware of exactly what they were doing. DeSantis himself confirmed this in his book. He stated that Disney could not find out what was being done until it was ready to happen.
E ceptbthey followed all rules for public meetings in c luding afvertising the public heating in locsl newspapers and allowing thd piblic to attend the meetings dont think disney woild have done aanything so stipid as not follow public meeting rules.
Not true, Disney & Reedy Creek posted a public notice a week before the meeting as to not violate the Sunshine Law. Disney wanted to make sure everything was legal so DeSantis’s lynch mob couldn’t strike it down.
These “legal authorities” mentioned by Brad are incorrect. Advice, don’t believe the nonsense from DeSantis and his little babies. They don’t know anything. DeSantis has violated so many laws. It’s disgusting.
Where is Joe Biden
He ran on getting the 1% to pay there far share not more loop holes . The biggest loop holes ever is Disney. Come in Joe this is rich not paying there fair share!!!!!!
Disney should abite by the same rules every other company or business in the area follow Disney is not above the residents and the laws of Florida residents.
According to which legal authorities? Friends of Ron DeSantis?
Think about it, moron, if what you said was true this case would be over and it’s not!
Go back to dreaninv about sucking on Donald Trump’s phalus.
Disney is Soo screwed. They could have left well enough alone but they wanted to pick a fight while having their hands tied behind their backs.
Desantis could set up tolls entering roads that lead to Disney and charge $500 to pass through. Let’s see how many people would go to Disney if they had to pay that toll. Lol.
Ron is the one that is screwed; this is a clear case of a First Amendment violation; government retaliating against a company for having an opinion Ron doesn’t like.
They’re allowed to do that, and government isn’t allowed to take action against citizens for their opinion.
That’s what Russia does; this is America.
Lmao disney u mean Florida residents who will be left to pay for all of this lmao Disney can close they doors and Florida unemployment will be at a all time high disney will win
Nope! Deathsantis is discriminating against Disney and violating their freedom of speech. You cannot arbitrarily go after the largest employer in your state because you disagree with their opinion. Deathsantis is 100% in the wrong.
I can’t see disney abandoning wdw.
I can see Disney getting rid of Florida resident passes so that residents pay parity with non residents.
I can see Disney having a “DeSantis day” by closing wdw so that the state of Florida’s legislature begins to understand Disney’s value.
I can see Disney not supporting republican political candidates with contributions.
Disney had supported republican candidates far more than Democrat candidates.
Walt Disney was republican. The Disney company has been primarily republican in its political support going way back.
Who’s that going to hurt? Ask the employees who lose jobs. All the businesses that friend on hotel revenue, food to handlers, stores in the area, wait till Walmart gets involved for lost revenue.
Little bigot is going to bring a world of hurt on Florida
LMAO please do this DeSantis😂 that would be amazing and keep Disney and other corporations from getting into politics. I want to be entertained and have fun not hear politics anywhere I go to escape politics. For that, down you go Disney. Also a former Cast Member as of 2 weeks ago. There’s more CMs against Disney than for. The ones that are for Disney are just louder, whine more & are uneducated. Everyone else is awesome
That screws the State of FL. Disney is the largest tax payer in the State. No guests, less taxes and less resort taxes paid by Disney. Not to mention all surrounding hospitality
businesses just outside of Disney. Florida gets screwed, Floridians get screwed by paying more to cover what’s lost due to this crap. Disney will not suffer.
I am so sorry, Dennis that you are angry cause you never got to go to Disney as a kid.. It is a wonderful, never to be forgotten experience. Secondly, Asleep (opposite of Woke) Ron lost me forever when he was trotting his poor wife around during the worst of the pandemic to public appearances while she was fighting cancer without any protection what so ever. If he can put his wife in danger to prove a totally misguided and ignorant point, then he and don can go down together. A pox on you both.
Considering most of the tourists that go to Florida actually goes there for Disney, Floridians should just be prepared to start paying income tax. The only people happy to be shooting their own feet are typical Florida Men.
Disney needs to obey the law just like the other theme parks. They should not be tax exempt. If they would do like Dolly does and stay out of politics and just entertain people.
Ok. Are you a fool or just woefully unaware. Disney was NEVER “tax exempt”. As a matter of fact not only did Disney pay all state and federal taxes (over $1 billion a year) Reedy Creek (the taxing authority) actually taxed property owners in the district (mainly Disney) over 2 times are much as is allowed under Florida law. In other words Disney would pay MUCH less in property taxes if Reedy Creek never existed.
They have every right to engage in political speech; Ron can’t do anything about it.
That’s the very thing the First Amendment says: government is not allowed to take action against citizens and companies for speech they use.
This is an open and shut case in any court.
Disney will be here long after the DeSantis and his minions. This is a power play by DeSantis which should worry anyone who loves freedom. Disney will win this because they’re right
Agreed. Obey the law and don’t try to rewrite to suit a businesses agenda. What a sad day when the world finds Mickey and Daisy are coming out and woke.
Oh wow, research before you speak. They pay taxes. In fact, they pay the most taxes to FL compared to any other business. Di not believe what DeSantis is saying, research for yourself
The right has no idea what the First Amendment is.
Ron has hung himself on this one; he’s loudly and repeatedly claimed he’s doing this because Disney is ‘woke.’
Here in the USA, government isn’t allowed to take action against citizens and companies because the government doesn’t like their political stance.
I’ve been wondering when Disney was going to do this; it is an open and shut case.
Ron is so deliciously screwed.
DESANTIS is a control freak. He has developed an unhealthy, unnatural, unmitigable aggressive stance against Disney. He can kiss his presidential ambitions goodbye. Bob Iger tried, and will continue, to work with DeSantis, but he and that Tourist Board will be insatiable. The special district Walt and FL created is not that unique. Just ask The Villages or Daytona Speedway. But DeSantis is not attacking them. Governor Puddin, by his own verbal admission, is punishing Disney. When discovery occurs, we will see how corrupt and vindictive the politics in Florida has become . I truly wish Disney the best. Walt Disney’s Dream deserves better.
Technically speaking Disney has legal standing in there lawsuit against Florida, essentially Desantis and his government are now trapped in a legal checkmate!
The Walt Disney Company in addition to their vested assets are sitting on about $8,000,000,000 cash in hand. That’s BILLIONS in liquid assets. I don’t think Iger and the board are concerned about “going broke.”
I’ve been watching as a Canadian and am concerned about RDs’ continuous attack on the democracy of Floridian people I find it almost as bad as the attacks Trudeau is committing on Canadian people…..
Look it up, there are 1900 self governing entities in Florida. It is obvious that RD’s attack on Disney is political. And for those not in the know Ron has amended the don’t say gay law to include through 12th grade. He has put through so much legislation with his personal agenda I am getting whiplash. It is really scary.
Disney is the largest employer for Florida. Disney brings billions of dollars to Florida economy so taxes are low. desantis is an enemy to Disney. Without Disney, Florida would be a ghost town for “elephant row”. All these gop retiree supporters would be spending a lot more in taxes
You cannot go around voiding contracts that have been approved by state governing bodies because it makes all state contracts at risk . It is bad for people trying to do business in florida.
Florida’s Sunshine Laws will make the discovery process very enlightening. Can you imagine the text and email streams between the government officials and their nongovernment backers coming out in public. Of course irrelevant for Floridians because reading comprehension is not a strength amongst the states residents.
Help a non Floridian here. What the hell is DeSantis end game in all this? Does he think he’s going to take over Disney? Is he trying to force Disney out of Florida? Yea I get it DeSantis is a tool. The whole thing smells of complete BS.
First off we all agree that Disney has been here since the 60s….Who fights with Mickey Mouse!!! 2nd Florida economy is Disney (tourism) the military and retirees!! You take Disney away or push them out of Florida not only will Ron DeSantis won’t make president Floridians will end up with a State Tax!!! Because whatever DeSantis replace Disney with will be subpar!!!
I think Ron Desantis needs to stop acting like a fascist and stop harassing the largest tourist attraction and probably one of the largest economic drivers in the state of Florida in an effort to harass and silence Disney for exercising their free speech. There are 1,844 special districts in Florida yet only this one is being abused and Ron the tyrant made clear through many public statements that this was about retaliation.
My point is that Disney reason existing is to make money as a business dedicated to entrain masses no matter what people o groups thinking. I think they lost their main purpose by entering to matters that belongs to State, Chapek was wrong at first when it try to interfere with state policies.
The liberal Walt Disney execs from California, i.e. Socialists, Marxists and Communists, should not be attempting to control the family values they are attempting to destroy.
Nobody is forcing you to watch Disney shows, Tom. It’s their company so they can do what they like with it. Fascist people like you love to dictate what others can or cannot do. Ironically, you lack grey matter to realize that.
The only positive aspect of the fight between Disney and DeSantis is that voters get to see how DeSantis would handle opposing views as a leader in the most important job in the country.
Unfortunately, for DeSantis, an oversized ego is not an asset. He won’t be the first politician to be undone by ego, nor will he be the last.
I’ve lived in Florida since 1970 before Disney opened. And I can tell you this for all the money that’s coming to the state all that publicity has done nothing but ruin and raise crime rates throughout the. State because we have people coming to the state that we could do without. So I say disney why don’t you take your business to another state ruin their lives for a while.
To say nothing about the thousands of jobs Disney has brought to the state or the businesses not owned by the park but are located inside of it. Jobs and businesses to help Floridians rise families & workers pay their bills. The main attraction however that brings in even more folks from all around the world is the beaches, towns, gourmet foods. Maybe, just maybe mister all that was there before you.
Just saying
You should consider Montana with miles & miles between people.
This is what happens when you have lunatics running a state. Disney should start moving it’s future plans out of Florida and to a state that’s not a hot bed religious fanatics.
Which state is that lol? Florida isn’t being run that badly. I know when your against the political power in charge everything looks rotten, but reality is it is not as bad as one side says or as good as the other side says. You condemn, others applaud, so politics as usually , neither side based in reality.
Bold moves were made during Covid and it is recovering quicker than most. Businesses are rebounding and people still are flocking there, not leaving in droves like some other states.
Has its problems like all states, seems to be above average though.
People don’t generally move to Florida for Disney, except the illegal immigrants, they are willing to take lower wages Disney offers.
Disney is a decent company, but they have changed significantly from their roots, still to be seen if this is the product majority of their consumers want from them, early signs say no, but culture changes. I
We are vacationing in Florida later this year, will spend one day at Animal Kingdom and rest of vacation at other non Disney theme parks. In past it would have been all Disney, but some of the magic has worn off, will see if the visit improves on that.
This little battle will not affect either side that much when all said and done.
I believe the legislature reviews the agreement between Florida and Disney and Reedy Creek every single year as to it’s renewal,so the power to renew lies with them . Also Disney looked for trouble when they moved from entertainment and into woke politics. All Corporation’s take notice and stick to your business and stock prices .
Oh, look! Somebody who doesn’t believe in the First Amendment. This is what happens when you only wave the constitution booklet for show instead of reading it.
Disney has a right to an opinion like everyone else. If Disney had said they agreeded with Little Hilter’s stance, there would have never veen a problem.
Disney is being railroaded by the hands it feeds . Tie Florida up in a 10 years to the supreme court shut down at the end Florida would lose billions a year.
Disney made the mistake of listening to their employees who are out of step with the culture of Florida. Florida’s do not abide by the perversion of a minute segment of today’s society overly represented in the performance industry. For Disney to demand anything of the Legislature is appalling. They started this and the result is a recapture of the governance of a large piece of the state.
Disney has one single move to make but refused to. All she need do is close all location in Florida temporarily for 1 year and lay off all her workers many of whom voted the politicians hurting them now. Put more resources in productions and California. But I guess the Disney board is trying to be kind. When they lay off all their employees and stop all Florida third party vendors for 12 months, the governor will understand why you don’t mess with people’s livelihood.
He is a sorry loser that came from you know who.
This is all politico period. Disney is not the only company that has their own community in Florida but none of those companies have NOT been even contacted.
I am truly happy that ugly showed his face before the American voters go to the poles if DeSantis even throws his ugly hat in that race. United States does not need another hater in the presidential seat. I will vote for a person that will not feel the need to hurt us or even take our vote away again!
Everyone forgets this isn’t socialism. What happens in Venezuela is happening here. Government suing and taking oversight of independent private companies.
I hate Disney World now and then. Bunch of screaming kids sweltering in the
steamy Florida swamp. Hopefully it will close forever. However I dio admire Rob Desantis for standing up to the Left Woke Whackos.
Native Floridian. We hated it when Disney came here..We have other theme parks that draw from all over the globe now. Disney can pull up stakes and go with probably most Floridians blessings.
I think the governor is wrong and a bully leave Disney alone they bring in a lot of revenue to our state. Other wise a suggestion Disney could shut down for a month and see what everyone thinks of him. He is a bully
I’m with the Florida Governor…….Disney Mgmt thinks it’s role is to meddle in political and personal public areas that do NO GOOD for anyone……like Bud Light they (Disney) should cease and desist while they are still standing.
The whole thing is a political nonsense from Desantis. Companies, people all have the same rights under the constitution. He is just trying to out trump trump to get his followers. He even pushed for the state to change the states constitution just so he can govern and run for potus in 2024. Just another loser Republican doing whats best for themselves and not the people.
Unfortunately we will have Ron until at least 2026 and his stepford wives legislature. Anyone care to say what the state of Florida might look like then?
I want Ron DeSantis Impeached. With this ruling Disney and probably Universal will leave Florida leaving 3 million plus people unemployed. Way to go SATAN!
I think Disney should relocate their Park to a more hospitable State. They should leave the Disney Property to rot and be the second coming of the Wheaton Glass Factory in Millville, NJ. The State Of Florida can take ownership of the Disney Property that would no longer be a vacation destination and erect prisons…just like New Jersey did just south of Millville and rename the Happiest Place on Earth to Hell Hole.
Governor DesSantis declared war with Disney, for exercising freedom of speech. As a result, the state of Florida stands to loose tourists revenue. As a yearly Florida tourist for 22 years, my visits will terminate this year. Floridians depend on tourism revenue. We visitors to Florida have many options. I’m excising my right not to spend another dollar in Florida . I disagree with Governor DeSantis policies, and retaliatory actions .
I show my displeasure by how I spend my dollars.
I will vacation in California this June and visit Disneyland instead.
Have you heard the latest from desantis? He now wants his legislature to carve out provisions in the Sunshine laws to exempt him from reporting donors names, amounts contributed, his travel and, I believe corrospondances. He also has them circumvent the provision that every other state office holder has has to comply with and that was giving up your current position when you run for another position, he really does want his cake and eat it too…plus he needs a refresher course from Yale on “Free speach” I don’t need one, I still remember mine from UCONN 50 years later (Go Huskies)…..And you trust a man like that?
Disney has been around long before DeSantis and his cohorts. They will be around long after DeSantis is off the political stage. And Disney (like most large companies) has a battery of good attorneys. If the GOP wants to continue to present itself as the party of less government, this BS certainly won’t help.
I am not in favor of Disney’s products the last couple years. Forcing unneeded story lines into movies that have only hurt otherwise good movies, taking up political stands, which was never what they were about.
That being said , it is their decision to do so. As for Desantis , well Disney was recieving benefits that were not offered to other Florida businesses, that should have been put to an end regardless. If your recieving those benefits you probably shouldn’t publicly attack those that can revoke them, unless it is a price you are willing to pay for your position.
If the end result is Disney having the same benefits as other businesses in Florida, then it is what it should be. Universal having to clear all the state red tape for expansion, when Disney doesn’t have to, that was wrong.l, make it fair. It was wrong for original deal to not have a regular renewal vote or set end date.
Disney has just made themselves the center of intention and to continue giving them benefits others cannot have while they attack your positions doesn’t make sense either, bit of a mixed signal. So correct it, Disney will be on even footing and can continue to say what they want, with only their shareholders and customers to hold them accountable for their decisions.
Florida doesn’t pay state income tax, sales tax is 6%, but it seems many Floridian’s are mad at the Governor. Newsom in California has the highest state tax, recently added $0.56 a gallon increase to the HIGHEST gas prices in the country ~~ and then the electric bill’s just when up $150 a month AND Disneyland DOESN’T have a sweetheart deal to NOT PAY their fair share!! Poor Florida residents PLEASE YOU’VE got it made.
Disney has a very strong case. It seems they can easily prove that through DeSantis’ own words and actions, that he directly retaliated against Disney for voicing an opinion which is a violation of the 1st Amendment. Furthermore, DeSantis violated their 5th Amendment rights, the taking clause, by voiding contacts without compensation. DeSantis should have ignored criticism, and carried on … But here we are. And this doesn’t look good for him.
Disney (WDW) will ultimately loose the fight against Florida and DeSantis on a legal technicality. In order for the contract signed between Reedy Creek Improvement District (RCID) and WDW that granted WDW oversight in perpetuity to be held lawful all government agencies involved had to have agreed in accordance with Florida law. Each government entity is required to hold a public hearing and provide public notics of the hearing. The WDW area in question is governed by three local governments; RCID, the Incorporated City of Bay Lake, and the Incorporated City of Lake Buenavista. Both cities have between 20 – 30 residents each.
There is was an existing agreement between each city and RCID that grants RCID its powers for the purposes of planning and development, public works, and assessments. Neither of those agreements provide for RCID to assign the powers granted to it from the cities to a third party.
RCID did properly notice and hold a public hearing. However, because the existing agreement did not authorize RCID to further assign the rights of the cities to a third party, such as WDW, the contract is null and void as to all powers that belong to the cities; which includes public works, assessments, planning & development.
In order for the contract to be binding on the Incorporated cities, each city would have to have had a properly noticed public hearing and voted to allow RCID to further assign those powers to another entity. That did not occur. Therefore, the contract is absolutely null as it pertains to any powers exercised by RCID on behalf of the cities.
Additionally, RCID did pass a revised planning and development growth plan. However, the documents refer to attachments for specific information. But, none of those attachments are included in the public records of RCID or attached to the board member packets to be reviewed prior to voting. Therefore, those approvals are absolutely null.
With that said, DeSantis will also suffer politically during the campaign while this court battle plays out. As a result, I predict a compromise where WDW agrees to refrain from public statements in politics that do not have a direct effect on WDW, such as taxes, redistricting, etc. In exchange Florida will increase the size of the board and give WDW 1 or 2 seats on the board, as well as giving local business owners in the district 1 seat, Orange county 1 seat , and Osceola County 1 seat, and possibly each of the two county sheriff’s a seat.
If the new Central Tourism Oversight board (that has replaced RCID), Gov. DeSantis, and/or the Florida Legislature truly wanted to cause havoc for WDW a few moves would stop Disney almost immediatly. 1) Let the new board take into the district all of Celebration, I-4 between WDW, Universal Studios, and Seaworld. 2) have Bay Lake and Lake Buenavista each annex in both Golden Oaks and Celebration into the city boundiaries equally.
Annexing in these areas into the new oversight board would allow for the district to do infrastructure projects to improve transportation between all of the parks. Annexing the residental areas would then provide for actual citizen oversight of the two municipalities; rather than the only residents in each city being tenants of WDW.
What Desantis and crew have failed to mention is how many lives of the families of employees this pissin political match will impact!! Not ONE TIME have I seen anything said about it! How about that DeSantis??? I am not a Disney or Reedy Creek employee but I am very concerned about the impact this will have on a lot of floridians! Are you and crew planning on making sure they aren’t hurt while all fight like children???
Enough already about Disney. They had their gravy train for thirty years without any intervention from the State of Florida.
30 egg suckin’ years.
Get over it. It’s over!
Now fall in line with the rest of the businesses.
Comments for Disney and Reedy Creek Contract Dead
Brad
According to legal authorities, Disney violated the Sunshine Law when they met to set up their contract. Their agreement would not have stood up in court because of it.
JD
According to other legal authorities DeSantis and his gang violated the law when they voided a legal agreement that was passed by Florida and Disney back in the mid 60’s. The thin skinned troll 🧌 should of just said “I don’t agree with Disneys point of view but this is America and everyone is entitled to their opinion”. But no! The right wing troll 🧌 had his feelings hurt and said “waaaaa, I’ll show Disney who’s boss!”. Quick note. The boss is still Mickey and once he gets humiliated in court right wingers (like you) can go and start whining about something else.’
Jake
Look at the left wing troll all butthurt over Ron Desantis.
Disney’s job is top make money for its shareholders, not have an opinion. A job is not doing so great at, hovering at around half the price it was in March 2021.
dbrown
The way to maximize profits is to maximize their consumer base. You do that by welcoming every one regardless of race, creed, religion or sxual orientation.
Any
I believe that Ron DeSantis is a child and is throwing a tantrum no matter which way you mean politically, he is a brat that wants to get his way.
Roger
Disney sucks..and I’d out of control.
John
It doesn’t seem like it should have been legal for Desantis to do this in the first place. Having the government take over a company because you didn’t like what they were saying?
Sounds like a freedom of speech issue, this isn’t China.
S
FlorChablis Florence Florence
We need to respect each other and not demonize people or organizations. People have enjoyed Disney for years and should have the opportunity to continue this
Mipooh

Mipooh
Robert F.
Desantis is a bully. He acts like Florida is his private nation to rule over as a Dictator. I have faith the Mouse House will prevail.
Phillip
Your argument is void of facts. The Disney aggression is pointed at sexualizing young children. There is no restriction on sexual identity at the border of the state. Neither has the state government sought to do so. Children need to be taught sexual identity from their family. That is the point of the spear. There is no “don’t say gay “law on the books in Florida. That is a contrived label attached to the legislation by leftists.
Travis Weberling
@Phillip, Disney as a corp had to speak out vs Desantis & his “Don’t say gay” law because they fo have employees & customers that are gay in their parks & offices.
Mika D
You weirdos are obsessed with the sexualization of kids. Even worse, all your screaming is an attempt to cover the fact that YOU are the predator.
Jack
Your projection has been noted, Jake.
Which is typical for your right-wing Kneepad Society members
Luther
Anyone not part of a political team can see this for what it is. Pure abusive of power. Using his office for political purposes only. Rhonda DeSantis is a tiny thin skinned man with a Napoleon complex.
Johnno
I know you won’t fathom this, but the entire stock market is struggling, not just Disney.
Bonnie
You are so correct. DeSantis is a child stomping his foot because he didn’t get his own way and decided to retaliate against Disney because he didn’t get the money he thought he was going to get. Go for it Disney! We’re behind you!
Brenda
DeSantis needs to grow the hell up . Because someone disagrees with you you don’t put others livelihood in danger.he is a Brat and and I think a little sick in the head.

They did, tho. The CEO himself is still anti gay, but the company claims to not support those views.

When the government targets a company because they expressed their opinions, that’s a major problem. You don’t see a problem with that?

Yeah , well that all changed when repubs decided that corporations were people too. Can’t have it both ways.
susan hicks
I think Rhonda-santis should quit being a pr1ck
Hannah
The lackeys in the Fl legislature have let Desantis ruin this state.
Their accomplice is the media in Fl.
X18D
Had Disney management just shut their mouths, Reedy Creek would still be in business.
Free speech is protected in America, but free speech without consequence is not.

Wrong. You right wing nutjobs need a civics lesson.
Darren
The government is exactly WHO is protected from! Unbelievable…
Brad
Good one nutjob. Remember Citizens United?
Michael
Well Disney should not have special power that their competitor don’t have the same adventage,Disney should stay out of pushing the left agenda and stay neutral and keep their objective on entertaiment
Mona
Desantes has some issues dealing with anything that goes against him reigning himself as king. Florida residents will lose their tourism money if this keeps up. We haven’t been back to Florida since he has become governor. He’s not a governor and the rest of the GOP who gerrymandered there way in will eventually regret the actions they took. Florida take your state back and get rid of Desantes and the others that have their head up Desantes arse.
Ron
The unfortunate fact is that your Supreme Court decided that corporations have the same rights to free speech as you or I.
So which is it then ?
Maybe little DeSantis should go crying to his Supreme Court cronies to change that law back.
Ron
Disney did not break sunshine laws. That just another fallacious assertion made by tyrant DeSantis.
And anyone that disagrees with you is a troll huh ? Really !
JnS
Hopefully Disney picks up and leaves, just to watch all the conservatives pay the tab thru their new taxes🤣
Frank
Ah, corporations are people remember. They have the right to free speech just like people
Ira
Disney has been showing ferries and male wizards wearing dresses since their beginning. Ron Ron Dasandtoes is gay..
Nunya
Citizen United (Austin v. Michigan State Chamber of Commerce) social conservatives argued that corporations are people too. So corporations can donate unlimited amount of money to Republican super pac and enjoy all rights people have. So you can’t have your cake and eat it too.. repeal citizen United and everyone on the left will tell Mickey to shut it.
Juanita
I say bring it to GA. Leave Fl. Repubs are on steriods!

Proof that “progressives” LOVE corporate America as long as they use their status and authority to forward the narrative and agenda.

Desantis is a fascist ,long live the mouse
RSS
I 100% agree . Maybe Disney should just pull out of the state and see how much the state will lose in revenue. And then the big bad the governor can only put the blame on his self
Kitty
I completely agree. Floridians May change their tune if he runs Disney out of Florida.
Blanca
As floridian: if Disney is gone there’s other places to enjoy and cheaper for families
AV
If they decide to leave out of Florida, Orlando will be in big trouble. There are those who think it’s not possible but there are so many other states that will love to offer Disney a deal to see tourism blossom in that state.
Bill
If Disney slows down investments and improvements in Disney World, then the Mouse will be on the hunt for a new home. Until then I hope Disney continues to be concerned about social issues it’s employees are subjected to. Any business currently operating in Florida or considering coming to Florida should be looking long and hard at DeSantis. Companies do not like environments that DeSantis is creating. I hope these companies channel their support away from him, he is bad for their business objectives.
RickTR
They should also look long and hard at the minimum wage Disney pays it’s struggling employees.
MB
Proof we support the first amendment and the government not bullying or harassing citizens for exercising their rights. You don’t get to frame this however you please, you don’t get to decide my motives or thoughts. Why are conservatives so convinced they know how everyone thinks when they are usually completely wrong?
Jay
Couldn’t have said this better myself.. All this does is makes sure they pay their fair share like the rest of the them parks .. lol but imagine that they love big Corporations
susan hicks
You do understand that Disney took care of everything themselves which saved the tax payers a shit tonne of money. If Rhonda-santis has a say the tax payers are footing the bill for all infrastructure services
John Townsend
Perfect answer. DeathSantis is a useless slug that is brazenly throwing his weight around; misusing his office for political revenge. He’s gonna lose. Disney can afford better lawyers…
Mike
Corporate Disney is a left wing political appendage that mistakenly believes the fringe alphabet groups with a wide range of abnormal sexual deviant platforms will keep people like Obama, Biden, Harris, Pelosi, AOC etc in power. JFK would roll over at what the Dems have turned into. The sleeping giant known as middle america will awaken and spit out the woke agenda and purge the Congress of all the corrupt socialist synchophants.
Shawn
OK, woke literally has no meaning, and yet people keep tossing it around like they know what it means. Even the psychopathicDictator Desantis thinks he knows what it means, and it has no definition.Stop using words that have no meaning.

The right wing “troll” only took reedy Creek away once the mouse decided it would not longer give political contributions
Funny how so many articles fail to mention that part.
Disney messed with the politicians money so the politicians messed with Disney’s money.
It’s not hard to understand.

They have free speech rights just like you do so cope and seethe especially when they win their lawsuit

Harry
Of course the legislature passed a law. They are DeSantis sheep!
MP

Jenna
DeSantis seems to be abusing his power. Why is he only going after Disney’s special tax status? No other places with a special tax status is being harrased. There are a lot of places in Florida with the same special tax deal and not a word from DeSantis about them. What about the Republican owned Villages special tax status? Lots of illegal stuff with the Villages happening and they get away with it. This seems like a personal vendetta of DeSantis. Doesn’t matter what your politics are for this to be a scary scenario.
Mark
Disney has the same 1st Amendment right has a person. See Mitch McConnell and the Republicans in the Citizens United Supreme Court case.
Vango Rilla
DeSantis is a 🤡
Russ W
TJW
Disney is not a “person with an opinion” it’s a business with its huge base in CA trying to tell FL how to govern,or better said weighing in hoping for more pull.
There is nothing in the bill they stated that says anything like they claim. And anyone who thinks its ok to discuss gender fluidity with K-3rd graders needs to check their brain. Discuss it at home if thats your way but at school k-3rd grade ? Not the place. Sorry. It was ridiculous for them;Disney to jump on that.
Lisa Schultz
I feel De Santis has some authoritarian leanings and with so many books being banned , there may be free speech issues coming. I think like Trump he is sometimes trying to operate outside of the Constitution. Personally I think Disney should work out a deal with Georgia or some other state happy to have them and move. I know it’s a big move but it could be done and with the sale of all that land in the Orlando area, Disney will come out ahead. With 80,000 more Floridians out of work, I think DeSantis will be dead in the water for any political future.
Colleen Reaves
Exactly 💯
Barbara memoli
I hate what desantis is doing to Disney. It is an absolutely beautiful place to go. Run impeccably Now he has taken 2 million of taxpayers money and given it to his crone law firm to find his loop holes. Why is he ruining a great thing just because they took exception to his way of thinking. I hope and pray Iger and Mickey slap him down good
O D.
Eric
So you blame the Governor for protecting kids? Sick pervert.
Stephen Cash
The Supreme court ruled in the 1960’s that Disney deal of providing for roads and other things in the district was constitutional and by DeSantis doing what he doing if Disney not footing the bill the taxes payers will now watch flordia Taxes go up because of what he did.
FrdUp
And the left wing trolls continue with their brainwash about Mickey Mouse topics.
30 years allowance to develop un impeded by Florida statutes is pretty darn generous. Now it’s time to end the preferential treatment and be given the same allowance other Florida businesses adhere to.
Allan Floyd
This whole thing is unconstitutional.
Ron has been clear that he’s doing this because Disney is ‘woke’. That’s government retaliateing against a company for purely political reasons. They’re allowed to have an opinion that Ron doesn’t like, and Ron can’t just take government action against them for that.
I’ve been wondering why Disney hasn’t done this yet; it is an open and shut case.
Jake
Someone should tell the Dementor (or diaper) in Chief about this same concept.
Jack
Yawn.
Look DJ Jake and the other right-wing trolls showing their ignorance (which isn’t new) and deflecting (and simply repeating the same derp).

Colleen Reaves
Thank you I hope that POS gets voted out. If anyone in Florida has any sense at all they will!!

The Govenor needs to stop this childish sparring with the states largest employer and govern the state. Bullying a well respected and beloved corporation because of differing points if viw shows he’s not good for America ir Florid.
Rick Dangerous
No not at all.
The facts are this…
The voters of Florida overwhelmingly are against the radical left and their alphabet mafia.
Evil.
Utilid
Penny
I couldn’t have said it any better!! This person says DeSatan won by a landslide, but they forget to mention how DeSatan overruled our non partisan redistricting committee the voters of FL put into law to make sure our votes always counted & he gerrymandered the districts so much, there wasn’t any way he could lose if he tried. He didn’t win because an overwhelming amount of Floridians voted for him.

Brad is licking the boots of all daddy deSantis. Haha loser.
Jack
What “legal authorities” are stating that? Clearly uneducated ones
Michael
The meeting was properly noticed and met all legal requirements. Adolf DeSantis is FOS.
Jim
There’s ample evidence that’s not true and postings of the meeting where in the papers and posted according to the law. DeSantis lawyers want you to believe they violated the law.
MB
Well that’s a lie…
Sharon
Disney dud NOT violate any Sunshine Laws. They held 2 public meetings. They announced intentions in a large public paper. They had residents from said small cities in attendance. It was the Stste of FL, DeSantis, who held meetings behind closed doors so Disney was not aware of exactly what they were doing. DeSantis himself confirmed this in his book. He stated that Disney could not find out what was being done until it was ready to happen.
Nunnya
Hahaha. Good one!
Frank
E ceptbthey followed all rules for public meetings in c luding afvertising the public heating in locsl newspapers and allowing thd piblic to attend the meetings dont think disney woild have done aanything so stipid as not follow public meeting rules.
Penny
Not true, Disney & Reedy Creek posted a public notice a week before the meeting as to not violate the Sunshine Law. Disney wanted to make sure everything was legal so DeSantis’s lynch mob couldn’t strike it down.
Mike
These “legal authorities” mentioned by Brad are incorrect. Advice, don’t believe the nonsense from DeSantis and his little babies. They don’t know anything. DeSantis has violated so many laws. It’s disgusting.
Spike
Sunshine law does/did not apply at the time
Tim Huff
Disney will lose in the end, fighting the state political stand.
The best thing to do is meet and look for a really good deal tax wise.
Andre
DeSantis is wrong. Disney has freedom of speech. You can’t abuse your authority in retaliation to freedom of speech.
Blanca
Yep the sunshine law prevails in FLA : if the mouse wants to be in FLA : follow the law and it will be able to have plenty of cheese.
Bib
Where is Joe Biden
He ran on getting the 1% to pay there far share not more loop holes . The biggest loop holes ever is Disney. Come in Joe this is rich not paying there fair share!!!!!!
Luis
Disney should abite by the same rules every other company or business in the area follow Disney is not above the residents and the laws of Florida residents.
Tony
According to which legal authorities? Friends of Ron DeSantis?
Think about it, moron, if what you said was true this case would be over and it’s not!
Go back to dreaninv about sucking on Donald Trump’s phalus.
Dennis
Disney is Soo screwed. They could have left well enough alone but they wanted to pick a fight while having their hands tied behind their backs.
Desantis could set up tolls entering roads that lead to Disney and charge $500 to pass through. Let’s see how many people would go to Disney if they had to pay that toll. Lol.
Allan Floyd
Ron is the one that is screwed; this is a clear case of a First Amendment violation; government retaliating against a company for having an opinion Ron doesn’t like.
They’re allowed to do that, and government isn’t allowed to take action against citizens for their opinion.
That’s what Russia does; this is America.
Jake
But you’re okay with diaper Joe doing it, amirite?

When has the Federal Government retaliated against your speech? Please be specific.
Chaa Du Ba Its Iidan
He was banned on Twitter, so that’s pretty much the same thing. 😆
Bill
Really, ever think how much money the mouse generates for FLA?
One more point tool.
Can you define WOKE?
Jake
“Can you define WOKE?”
Can YOU define WOMAN?
Jack
Projection and deflection.
That’s all you DeSnowflake humpers have. Go back to Gateway Pundit.
Michael
Can you define “moron? Look in the mirror
Midwesterner
Dear god. As a woman, I don’t leave it up to this knuckle-dragger to define me or those who share my gender.
Lynette
Woke= caring, empathetic, inclusive and processes critical thing skills all the things the RepubliQans detest.
Florida
Lmao disney u mean Florida residents who will be left to pay for all of this lmao Disney can close they doors and Florida unemployment will be at a all time high disney will win
Lynette
#BonBonRon doesn’t care, he is the school yard bully. He doesn’t care if he destroys the state as long as he makes his point.
Jake
I’ll be waiting with anticipation as Disney kills their cash cow.
Maybe they can make their stick process got 1/4 of their former value.
Tony
The smartest comment on here f..k Florida
Barb
Nope! Deathsantis is discriminating against Disney and violating their freedom of speech. You cannot arbitrarily go after the largest employer in your state because you disagree with their opinion. Deathsantis is 100% in the wrong.
Mrs D
Ron DeSanTrash should have kept his big mouth shut… If it’s not broke why try to fix it
Donna
Also illegal and tourism and Disney biggest moneymaker foe central Florida.
Tony
Disney could just shut the doors and walk away from the garbage state let Florida just waste away it’s a berden on the rest of us in the US
R
I can’t see disney abandoning wdw.
I can see Disney getting rid of Florida resident passes so that residents pay parity with non residents.
I can see Disney having a “DeSantis day” by closing wdw so that the state of Florida’s legislature begins to understand Disney’s value.
I can see Disney not supporting republican political candidates with contributions.
Disney had supported republican candidates far more than Democrat candidates.
Walt Disney was republican. The Disney company has been primarily republican in its political support going way back.
Obvious troll
Who’s that going to hurt? Ask the employees who lose jobs. All the businesses that friend on hotel revenue, food to handlers, stores in the area, wait till Walmart gets involved for lost revenue.
Little bigot is going to bring a world of hurt on Florida
Chris
LMAO please do this DeSantis😂 that would be amazing and keep Disney and other corporations from getting into politics. I want to be entertained and have fun not hear politics anywhere I go to escape politics. For that, down you go Disney. Also a former Cast Member as of 2 weeks ago. There’s more CMs against Disney than for. The ones that are for Disney are just louder, whine more & are uneducated. Everyone else is awesome
Mike
Thanks for the joke Chris lol. It’s good to know you’re pro-Disney.
Sharon
That screws the State of FL. Disney is the largest tax payer in the State. No guests, less taxes and less resort taxes paid by Disney. Not to mention all surrounding hospitality
businesses just outside of Disney. Florida gets screwed, Floridians get screwed by paying more to cover what’s lost due to this crap. Disney will not suffer.
Deb
I am so sorry, Dennis that you are angry cause you never got to go to Disney as a kid.. It is a wonderful, never to be forgotten experience. Secondly, Asleep (opposite of Woke) Ron lost me forever when he was trotting his poor wife around during the worst of the pandemic to public appearances while she was fighting cancer without any protection what so ever. If he can put his wife in danger to prove a totally misguided and ignorant point, then he and don can go down together. A pox on you both.
Tereda
Disney will win! Desantis will be defeated and we will be grateful that he will not be the next President!
Frank
You do realize that would hurt florida not disney
Mike
Thanks for the hilarious joke Dennis. It gave me a good laugh. I love to laugh at people like you who know absolutely nothing about the law.
Ralf S
Considering most of the tourists that go to Florida actually goes there for Disney, Floridians should just be prepared to start paying income tax. The only people happy to be shooting their own feet are typical Florida Men.
Gary
Disney needs to obey the law just like the other theme parks. They should not be tax exempt. If they would do like Dolly does and stay out of politics and just entertain people.
JD
Ray
Dear Disney…close up shop totally… there’s other states that would welcome you and yours…just imagine thousands unemployed…thanks guv!!!
Jake
Ah, they paid taxes, to themselves. The majority of property taxes go the the local government, which up to now was basically Disney themselves.
Allan Floyd
They have every right to engage in political speech; Ron can’t do anything about it.
That’s the very thing the First Amendment says: government is not allowed to take action against citizens and companies for speech they use.
This is an open and shut case in any court.
Sarah
Disney will be here long after the DeSantis and his minions. This is a power play by DeSantis which should worry anyone who loves freedom. Disney will win this because they’re right
Jake
Dementia Joe has set the precedent, Governor Desantis is just following, with less swatting, IRS raids, and FBI fumbling.
Tony
You clearly want to lose Disney in Florida I hope it moves Florida is a dirty state bulldozer it off
Deb
Still no one willing to take a stab at what Woke means.
Johnno
You might want to check your aluminum hat for leaks.
Mary
Agreed. Obey the law and don’t try to rewrite to suit a businesses agenda. What a sad day when the world finds Mickey and Daisy are coming out and woke.
Jack
LOL Another urugneducateshight-wing sheep using words they don’t know the meaning of.
You have no clue what you’re talking about.
Jack
*uneducated right-wing sheep
Jim
They’ve always been educated. It’s people like you who utterly clueless.
Sharon
Oh wow, research before you speak. They pay taxes. In fact, they pay the most taxes to FL compared to any other business. Di not believe what DeSantis is saying, research for yourself
Jim
RD is a moron and I hope he gets his butt handed to him on a platter
PDP
I hope Disney moves to another State and leaves RD with his hand on his ass. Lost jobs, taxes but he’ll still say he won.
Allan Floyd
The right has no idea what the First Amendment is.
Ron has hung himself on this one; he’s loudly and repeatedly claimed he’s doing this because Disney is ‘woke.’
Here in the USA, government isn’t allowed to take action against citizens and companies because the government doesn’t like their political stance.
I’ve been wondering when Disney was going to do this; it is an open and shut case.
Ron is so deliciously screwed.
Jake
Ah, but the “Big Man” is fine when he leverages the Feral government to do much worse, amirite?
Donald Crabtree
Jake
Keep holding on to that “Hope and maybe a little change in your pocket.”
Desantis for president 2028. KAG – Keep America Great, copyright, me.
Landon
Technically speaking Disney has legal standing in there lawsuit against Florida, essentially Desantis and his government are now trapped in a legal checkmate!
desy
Go WOKE Go BROKE !!!!
Jim
You do understand woke is being educated. Most educated people make bank. Sounds like you need a good dose of woke.
MG
The Walt Disney Company in addition to their vested assets are sitting on about $8,000,000,000 cash in hand. That’s BILLIONS in liquid assets. I don’t think Iger and the board are concerned about “going broke.”
Tim
I’ve been watching as a Canadian and am concerned about RDs’ continuous attack on the democracy of Floridian people I find it almost as bad as the attacks Trudeau is committing on Canadian people…..
Jake
You do realize that the Disney characters are not real people, right?
Jane
Look it up, there are 1900 self governing entities in Florida. It is obvious that RD’s attack on Disney is political. And for those not in the know Ron has amended the don’t say gay law to include through 12th grade. He has put through so much legislation with his personal agenda I am getting whiplash. It is really scary.
Jane
Look up crazy in the dictionary. You will find a picture of Ron DeSantis beside a picture of Marjorie Taylor Green.
Dennis
Disney is the largest employer for Florida. Disney brings billions of dollars to Florida economy so taxes are low. desantis is an enemy to Disney. Without Disney, Florida would be a ghost town for “elephant row”. All these gop retiree supporters would be spending a lot more in taxes
Don
Since Florida will be under water soon, it might be a smart move to get out of Florida for a better deal in other states.
John
Disney still has 33 billion dollars of Florida disney should fault on the mortgage and stick dusantis for the bill
Fay
Shame on Desantis!…the dictator
Kim masters
You cannot go around voiding contracts that have been approved by state governing bodies because it makes all state contracts at risk . It is bad for people trying to do business in florida.
Chris
As a business owner in Florida, I find the governor’s action deeply troubling.
Ryan
Don’t be too public about this… Hate to see your business brutally attacked next.
.Really.
Florida’s Sunshine Laws will make the discovery process very enlightening. Can you imagine the text and email streams between the government officials and their nongovernment backers coming out in public. Of course irrelevant for Floridians because reading comprehension is not a strength amongst the states residents.
193 the wedge
Ron DeFacist should be Recalled as Governor. He is a authoritarian dictator ,that’s getting his Butt kicked by a M O U S E……he’s a PAB
Bob
Desantis is a fascist ,long live the mouse
Jim
Help a non Floridian here. What the hell is DeSantis end game in all this? Does he think he’s going to take over Disney? Is he trying to force Disney out of Florida? Yea I get it DeSantis is a tool. The whole thing smells of complete BS.
Bridget Bright
First off we all agree that Disney has been here since the 60s….Who fights with Mickey Mouse!!! 2nd Florida economy is Disney (tourism) the military and retirees!! You take Disney away or push them out of Florida not only will Ron DeSantis won’t make president Floridians will end up with a State Tax!!! Because whatever DeSantis replace Disney with will be subpar!!!
MB
I think Ron Desantis needs to stop acting like a fascist and stop harassing the largest tourist attraction and probably one of the largest economic drivers in the state of Florida in an effort to harass and silence Disney for exercising their free speech. There are 1,844 special districts in Florida yet only this one is being abused and Ron the tyrant made clear through many public statements that this was about retaliation.
Carlos
My point is that Disney reason existing is to make money as a business dedicated to entrain masses no matter what people o groups thinking. I think they lost their main purpose by entering to matters that belongs to State, Chapek was wrong at first when it try to interfere with state policies.
TOM
The liberal Walt Disney execs from California, i.e. Socialists, Marxists and Communists, should not be attempting to control the family values they are attempting to destroy.
Ralf
Nobody is forcing you to watch Disney shows, Tom. It’s their company so they can do what they like with it. Fascist people like you love to dictate what others can or cannot do. Ironically, you lack grey matter to realize that.
Wade
Says the Liberal Hypocrite
J T
The only positive aspect of the fight between Disney and DeSantis is that voters get to see how DeSantis would handle opposing views as a leader in the most important job in the country.
Unfortunately, for DeSantis, an oversized ego is not an asset. He won’t be the first politician to be undone by ego, nor will he be the last.
Kenneth Johnson
DeSantis did nothing on his own. He was supported by the legislature. Disney stuck their nose in this and got it cut off – rightly so.
Frank Jones
I’ve lived in Florida since 1970 before Disney opened. And I can tell you this for all the money that’s coming to the state all that publicity has done nothing but ruin and raise crime rates throughout the. State because we have people coming to the state that we could do without. So I say disney why don’t you take your business to another state ruin their lives for a while.
Ralf
Yeah, yeah, and you’ll be the first to whine about how you have to pay income taxes and taxes for groceries.
nycgirl
How is Disney responsible for bringing these people to Fl. who are committing all this crime?
Mike
To say nothing about the thousands of jobs Disney has brought to the state or the businesses not owned by the park but are located inside of it. Jobs and businesses to help Floridians rise families & workers pay their bills. The main attraction however that brings in even more folks from all around the world is the beaches, towns, gourmet foods. Maybe, just maybe mister all that was there before you.
Just saying
You should consider Montana with miles & miles between people.
Robert
This is what happens when you have lunatics running a state. Disney should start moving it’s future plans out of Florida and to a state that’s not a hot bed religious fanatics.
Mike K
Richard Columbare
I believe the legislature reviews the agreement between Florida and Disney and Reedy Creek every single year as to it’s renewal,so the power to renew lies with them . Also Disney looked for trouble when they moved from entertainment and into woke politics. All Corporation’s take notice and stick to your business and stock prices .
Ralf
Oh, look! Somebody who doesn’t believe in the First Amendment. This is what happens when you only wave the constitution booklet for show instead of reading it.
nycgirl
Disney has a right to an opinion like everyone else. If Disney had said they agreeded with Little Hilter’s stance, there would have never veen a problem.
Will
How about the SAME DEAL that’s been to THE VILLAGES and DAYTON BEACH⁉️
R
And many other bodies within the state. The Villages tRUMPLAND for one and won’t be touched for obvious reasons.
Dave
Disney is being railroaded by the hands it feeds . Tie Florida up in a 10 years to the supreme court shut down at the end Florida would lose billions a year.
jains
Hey deathSantis:
Time to LET IT GO!
We Floridians are tired of your temper tantrums! Grow up and act like Mickey!
Kenneth Johnson
Disney made the mistake of listening to their employees who are out of step with the culture of Florida. Florida’s do not abide by the perversion of a minute segment of today’s society overly represented in the performance industry. For Disney to demand anything of the Legislature is appalling. They started this and the result is a recapture of the governance of a large piece of the state.
R
Disney’s employee demands. Disney represented those Florida residents that were against what DeSantis was doing.
Andrew
Disney has one single move to make but refused to. All she need do is close all location in Florida temporarily for 1 year and lay off all her workers many of whom voted the politicians hurting them now. Put more resources in productions and California. But I guess the Disney board is trying to be kind. When they lay off all their employees and stop all Florida third party vendors for 12 months, the governor will understand why you don’t mess with people’s livelihood.
Mike
He is a sorry loser that came from you know who.
This is all politico period. Disney is not the only company that has their own community in Florida but none of those companies have NOT been even contacted.
I am truly happy that ugly showed his face before the American voters go to the poles if DeSantis even throws his ugly hat in that race. United States does not need another hater in the presidential seat. I will vote for a person that will not feel the need to hurt us or even take our vote away again!
Garrett
Everyone forgets this isn’t socialism. What happens in Venezuela is happening here. Government suing and taking oversight of independent private companies.
Laura
I hate Disney World now and then. Bunch of screaming kids sweltering in the
steamy Florida swamp. Hopefully it will close forever. However I dio admire Rob Desantis for standing up to the Left Woke Whackos.
Jake
Inside the magic just earned a ton of respect from me for calling the parental rights education bill by its proper bill name. 👏🫡
Tw
Native Floridian. We hated it when Disney came here..We have other theme parks that draw from all over the globe now. Disney can pull up stakes and go with probably most Floridians blessings.
Mary
I think the governor is wrong and a bully leave Disney alone they bring in a lot of revenue to our state. Other wise a suggestion Disney could shut down for a month and see what everyone thinks of him. He is a bully
Rhodes
I’m with the Florida Governor…….Disney Mgmt thinks it’s role is to meddle in political and personal public areas that do NO GOOD for anyone……like Bud Light they (Disney) should cease and desist while they are still standing.
Matthew
The whole thing is a political nonsense from Desantis. Companies, people all have the same rights under the constitution. He is just trying to out trump trump to get his followers. He even pushed for the state to change the states constitution just so he can govern and run for potus in 2024. Just another loser Republican doing whats best for themselves and not the people.
Jane
Unfortunately we will have Ron until at least 2026 and his stepford wives legislature. Anyone care to say what the state of Florida might look like then?
Angry Angle
I want Ron DeSantis Impeached. With this ruling Disney and probably Universal will leave Florida leaving 3 million plus people unemployed. Way to go SATAN!
Marty
I think Disney should relocate their Park to a more hospitable State. They should leave the Disney Property to rot and be the second coming of the Wheaton Glass Factory in Millville, NJ. The State Of Florida can take ownership of the Disney Property that would no longer be a vacation destination and erect prisons…just like New Jersey did just south of Millville and rename the Happiest Place on Earth to Hell Hole.
S Patterson
Governor DesSantis declared war with Disney, for exercising freedom of speech. As a result, the state of Florida stands to loose tourists revenue. As a yearly Florida tourist for 22 years, my visits will terminate this year. Floridians depend on tourism revenue. We visitors to Florida have many options. I’m excising my right not to spend another dollar in Florida . I disagree with Governor DeSantis policies, and retaliatory actions .
I show my displeasure by how I spend my dollars.
I will vacation in California this June and visit Disneyland instead.
Bill
Have you heard the latest from desantis? He now wants his legislature to carve out provisions in the Sunshine laws to exempt him from reporting donors names, amounts contributed, his travel and, I believe corrospondances. He also has them circumvent the provision that every other state office holder has has to comply with and that was giving up your current position when you run for another position, he really does want his cake and eat it too…plus he needs a refresher course from Yale on “Free speach” I don’t need one, I still remember mine from UCONN 50 years later (Go Huskies)…..And you trust a man like that?
Dave
Disney has been around long before DeSantis and his cohorts. They will be around long after DeSantis is off the political stage. And Disney (like most large companies) has a battery of good attorneys. If the GOP wants to continue to present itself as the party of less government, this BS certainly won’t help.
Mike K
GenoK
Florida doesn’t pay state income tax, sales tax is 6%, but it seems many Floridian’s are mad at the Governor. Newsom in California has the highest state tax, recently added $0.56 a gallon increase to the HIGHEST gas prices in the country ~~ and then the electric bill’s just when up $150 a month AND Disneyland DOESN’T have a sweetheart deal to NOT PAY their fair share!! Poor Florida residents PLEASE YOU’VE got it made.
Rob
Disney has a very strong case. It seems they can easily prove that through DeSantis’ own words and actions, that he directly retaliated against Disney for voicing an opinion which is a violation of the 1st Amendment. Furthermore, DeSantis violated their 5th Amendment rights, the taking clause, by voiding contacts without compensation. DeSantis should have ignored criticism, and carried on … But here we are. And this doesn’t look good for him.
John Ogden
The REAL reason DeSantis hates Disney so much is because Mickey Mouse has a bigger *you know what* than he does… 😀
R
Suffice to say I disagree with your assertions. Too much to even counter with your points I disagree with
Don Marshall
Angela H
What Desantis and crew have failed to mention is how many lives of the families of employees this pissin political match will impact!! Not ONE TIME have I seen anything said about it! How about that DeSantis??? I am not a Disney or Reedy Creek employee but I am very concerned about the impact this will have on a lot of floridians! Are you and crew planning on making sure they aren’t hurt while all fight like children???
FedUp
Enough already about Disney. They had their gravy train for thirty years without any intervention from the State of Florida.
30 egg suckin’ years.
Get over it. It’s over!
Now fall in line with the rest of the businesses.
