Over the last 10 years, it seems Disney has done what it can to drop off the bus service and encourage people to walk or take a boat or the monorail or skyliner. One time it took us over an hour to get from our hotel to another hotel (with a park stop for exchange in between) for a dining reservation at that hotel. We were late and our destination was about 10 driving minutes away if we had a vehicle. When you have kids and all their stuff and strollers, buses are a non-starter. Unfortunately to get to Animal Kingdom you either need to drive or take a bus, even if you’re staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge. Wish they’d do a walking path there like they have for other resort areas.

I’ve found the best option to get from one resort to another is to take a taxi or an uber. Every hotel has a stop outside for ridesharing services. Strange that you did not choose that option.

That example was prior to the ride-sharing app explosion (not recently) but today unless you get the Minnie Vans, taxis and Ubers are not as conducive to traveling with children as the Disney-provided transport unless you don’t mind hauling their car seats around with you at the parks or to your table at the restaurant.

        1. I loved taking the clean efficient Disney bus! Made everything less stressful.

I have to say I disagree with this stance. My wife and I just got back from a four-day vacation at Disney and the buses were a solid rock we could rely on at all hours of the day. And the best part was since we were staying at a resort, the buses went directly from point A to point B without any stops in between. The Disney bus drivers we had were always positive and loved to answer questions about the park and it’s services. The only negative experience we had was with some of the contracted bus services (through Academy). While we did try the monorail, I still would choose the bus every time.

What resort did you stay at?

Buses are crap. We stayed at the Swan and the buses would come to hotel already at 90%+ capacity from stopping at other locations. It was quicker getting to the MK by walking to EPCOT, walking through the World Showcase, to the monorail station. Waiting for the monorail, then riding over to the MK.

The Swan is not owned by Disney, many if the buses are their own. Plus you would need a park pass to get into Epcot to walk to Monorail. Then wait till 2pm to get into MK unless your an AP holder.

I think buses have their place and time and that place and time is at the resorts that only provide buses as the transport option. I’ve stayed at the MK area resorts and waited 20 minutes for a bus to Hollywood Studios whereas at the All-Star resorts, they have buses coming every 5-10 minutes.

It also highly depends on the bus routes. Some resorts have their own exclusive bus, others will stop at more than one place. When I stayed at the Polynesian, it was often inconvenient and crowded to get on a bus because their buses stop at the Grand Floridian first, both going to parks and coming back. So it was often already mostly full with GF patrons when we had to get on. The bus to the Riviera, however, doesn’t stop anywhere else and was very pleasant to ride. That resort is now my go-to in part because of the easiest transit.

We have never had a bad driver while on the busses. The problem is with the massive inconsistency of when the bus gets to a stop. They say the a bus comes every twenty minutes. Now even if you account for them having to load multiple EVCs and wait for people it still should not take them 45 minutes per stop. My sister and I have waited more than two hours for a bus to arrive at MK to return us to our hotel at Saratoga Springs. It was so frustrating that I rewrote the lyrics to Be Our Guest. It’s new title is Be Our Bus.
Be our bus, be our bus, Disney transport can really suck. There’s more but you get the idea.

We haven’t been to Disney since the advent of the Uber/other apps. I really never minded the buses. However, it was hard to always get one that wasn’t already packed to the gills by the time it reaches the stop. The bus drivers are awesome. They get huge accolades in my book for all they have to deal with. However, my favorite is to walk. We bought points with Vacation Club at Beach Club because we could always walk to Epcot and Hollywood Studios. I think they should find a way to offer a walking path option everywhere possible. It gets you around at your own pace, you work off all the extra calories from what you eat, and it provides a break from the rush-rush of the other options. I also noticed you didn’t mention the boats, which are fun, too.

Scooters make everyone else’s life miserable. Don’t go on about the handicapped. You can see who is handicapped and who is too fat or lazy. Get up and off. Stop taking up room for real handicapped folks.
