They built this on the wrong coast, it could have worked in California where it tends to be more locals, at least if they didn’t gut the AP program. They would have had to make it a bit more affordable though, but it would work well.
Anyone could tell Disney (and many of us tried to) that the majority of people don’t want to go to Florida and have to change from one hotel to another (and potentially back to another hotel) and they aren’t going to go for just a couple of days. Yes, there are exceptions to this, but the vast majority won’t. Now, if they built a hotel that was all Star Wars themed and not as immersive, that would have been a smash hit in Orlando. This concept though would work quite well at the Disneyland Resort, but again the price point is too high. As for Orlando, the price point is too high, but again, not the main issue there.
I have friends that did it, and they had a great time. You have to dove in hard to get the most of it. For those that are super fans its an amazing experience. But you have to be up for immersion in the story and a multi-day interactive theater experience, and have the money and be fan enoughto want to spend that much. The intersection of all of those those things is a small market.
I was invited on my friend’s trip (for a 40th bday) and I just couldn’t see spending that much.
I think people are just turned off by the price per night and not even considering what it has to offer… It sounds like a great concept for people who are into Star Wars, but still overall the bottom line price is just too high.
Disney needs to find other ways and expenses to compensate for the cost needed to run the Halcyon Starcruiser/hotel. they should consider “cast members”/employees to work at the theme park and the hotel to cover the expenses…. profits from other areas of the park can be used to cover the cost of the hotel. Remember, everyone is working TOGETHER! If the service is good, the customers and guests are more likely to offer generous tips!
My friends and I all thought it was going to be a one time splurge, but now we all want to go back. It’s definitely super expensive, but it was a really unique and well done experience. I feel like they haven’t done the best job marketing it, even I was worried seeing the initial promo videos. Having done it now, I see why it’s so expensive. I don’t think they can significant reduce the price without reducing the experience. I hope they figure out a way to make it viable long term. The Imagineers did an amazing job on it.
Those that experienced this wallet drainer and can’t wait to return are very wealthy people which may be the customers Disney had in mind. The costs are beyond what most people can afford and Disney of late can care less if most cannot enjoy these entertainment venues. However, they misjudged the demand for their Star Wars extravaganza and shame on them for being so greedy. Walt Disney – please rise from your cryogenic tomb and slap your successors across theirs collective faces.

Gazoo Amazing
Why would it work better with locals? Disneyworld has both the US and International crowds which is a much larger audience.

Foolish concept that didn’t and won’t work. For this price your family can travel to Europe and stay in 4 star hotels for 7 nights.

You clearly have other unrelated issues that the ones being discussed in the article.

I did it and I loved it. I plan on doing it again. Yeah, it’s pricey but I feel like I got my money’s worth.

The whole thing looked weak………even at 1/4 of the price.
