You go Gov, what a leader

    1. Micky

May he never become president. What a divisive and horrible Governor.

      1. Beth

Agree! Disney has been wonderful for 56 years and our governor just couldn’t stand to have someone disagree with him and as most dictators do, he had to squash them.

        1. Ken

Disney was wonderful through the 90s but has been too expensive, too liberal, and snooty for the last 20+ years. You have not noticed.

          1. Jane

For what you get at Disney for a Day ticket isn’t expensive. Check out what it costs for a day ticket to ski in Colorado. $180. On up . Plus the expense of buying your skis, boots, poles. Or if you rent your stuff. Get with the times.

          2. LibsWearBibs

Broken rides, longer lines, dwindling portions of crappier food, overly expensive souvenirs. Wow, what a bargain. You are also leaving out the cost of a rental car and/or taking a ride service to the parks if you dont stay on their ridiculously over-priced resorts. These are the “times” you are referring to at Disney. At least skiing somewhere you are out in nature getting exercise.

          3. Diane

You are way off topic …

          4. Carol

            Love your moniker!!!!

          5. Chris B

Walking around 4 parks isnt exercise?

          6. David A

That is not what this post is about!

          7. LibsWearBibs

Responding to this: “For what you get at Disney for a Day ticket isn’t expensive. Check out what it costs for a day ticket to ski in Colorado. $180. On up . Plus the expense of buying your skis, boots, poles. Or if you rent your stuff. Get with the times.” You want to complain about someone being off topic you and Diane should complain to the right person at least.

          8. Lori

Thank you Governor DeSantis. What started as a promising relationship when Disney operated under the moral integrity of Walt Disney has been decaying in the recent years.

          9. DeSantis can’t stand it unless he’s the big bird fluffing his feathers. He’s put his nose in everything. I do not agree with the way he’s fighting Disney World. I think he needs to go home and quit. I pray to God he NEVER runs for president and if he does that he’ll NEVER win. He’ll run the white house like a dictator like he’s trying to run Florida.

        2. Stephen J

Wrong. As much as I love Disney they decided to inject themselves into a issue that a private company should have been mute. Of all companies in the world to suppprt & suborning the indoctrination of K-3 children. What is Disney’s mission statement?

          1. DDS

            Very well said!!!

          2. David A

Leave the schools alone, should we go back to burning books?
We should really go back to the ideologic times of the 50’s and have respect truth. Say the pledge of allegiance every day in schools.
Hide the gays and trans folks? They are people too, God created, maybe not what you like or agree with but people. Most do not have the choice to be “normal” with their sexual orientation, but are we to judge and discriminate them? I remember in the late 50’s , in school we called different people “queers” or “fagots” which was not right, and most probably, effected those children. But if it is taught in school that people are different, and still great people, maybe this is the place to start. Church too is now accepting people who are not the normal, but created by God, and just trying to live their lives the way they were born.
We may not agree, but as human beings we are not called to be the judge and jury of our fellow mankind.

        3. LibsWearBibs

“Dictator” LOL. Please look up what an actual dictatorship is before you spout your nonsense. (Hint: a politician working within the laws of the land that you dont agree with isn’t one)

          1. David A

“dictatorship, form of government in which one person or a small group possesses absolute power without effective constitutional limitations.”
“a form of government in which absolute power is concentrated in a dictator or a small clique”
If you don’t get your way, you go after an institution that for 50+ years has done a great job of taking care of the Property that is WDW.
You may not agree with Disney, but they have built a great park and system of Transportation for the land purchased by Walt. PLUS they are one of the biggest employers in Florida, and pay taxes to the state. But DeSantis is not a business man and has no idea how to run Reddy Creek.

          2. LibsWearBibs

Thanks for the definition and proving that State government in a country that is a Constitutional Republic is NOT a dictatorship (as much as you wish it was) with that definition.

          3. Billy

But when they adopted the woke doctrine they went totally away from what DWD was envisioned to be by Walt – a wonderful place to help guide children down the path of goodness, kindness and happiness to a place to warp childrens minds.

          4. Susan

But..wait. It’s not at all about getting your own way, but was done because of a bill put in place to protect children from being taught about sex in school was before they are fully able to understand it, and that a business who enjoyed a great privilege decided to make inflammatory comments.

        4. Carol

Disney went downhill after pandering to a minority of Alphabet people and pushing the woke agenda of so-called progressive liberals. It is they, their agenda, and Disney Corp sticking their collective noses into politics, twisting words to fit their agenda and embracing the destruction of our most vulnerable population. The fact that you are blind to this only solidifies the direction Disney has gone downhill over the past 20+ years. Walter Elias’s dream is gone thanks to the whole lot of them and those of us who loved Walt Disney’s dream will never forgive them.

          1. DDS

            EXACTLY!!!!

          2. Slyy

DeSantis is just a fool! You really think he cares about little kids? He cares about power in politics! Get real people!

          3. David A

            So true!!

          4. DDS

            EXACTLY CORRECT

          5. David A

If you believe Disney is in a downfall, why do you even bother subscribing to the Disney posts?
Personally, I do not like the past 5 yr vision Disney has taken, but do believe DeSantis is wrong and should not be sticking his NOSE into Disney business, just like Disney should not stick their NOSE into politics.

          6. Judy

Totally agree with you Carol. Most people making comments don’t even live in Florida, they have no idea. They see the magic not the people.

        5. Snicker

You need to get over your nonsense! Why should they be given special consideration on everything they do?! No other companies in this country are given the rights they’ve had. It started so Disney could get the parks up and running. This has been long over due.

          1. David A

Have you been to the WDW property. Driving into the property, you may notice how clean and well kept the roads are. NO POTHOLES, the landscape is well trimmed. Roadways and lighting are immaculate.
When you leave this division the landscape changes. Is Disney doing a great job with upkeep, I would give it a 100%. Let the GOVERNMENT run it, YEA, so they can muck it up.

        6. Janice

Go Ron Desantis. Disney is a very greedy company. They took huge advantage of paying no taxes to Florida. They paid their employees very little money while CEO and high up earned ridiculously millions of dollars. It is a multi billion dollar a year company. The parking fees are astronomical. Their ticket prices too expensive. Go Ron Desantis.

          1. Cobb

Paying no taxes? They’re one of the largest tax payers in the state. You people are just so uninformed, it’s sickening.

          2. Sue

I’ve always loved Disney but it’s woke political agenda is sickening. Walt Disney must be rolling over in his grave. Wake up Disney. You have to take out a small loan to take your family for a week. It’s sad. I still love Mickey♥️🐀

          3. Pat

I believe you’re misled. They pay their fair share for taxes. They should shut down their Florida operation and build a new one in a neighboring state

      2. Teresa W.

        Amen!

        1. Jon Russell

Hopefully, DeSantis will NEVER be voted in a President of these United States!! What he has done towards WDW, is violate the 1st Amendment Right to Free Speech and violated the Florida Constitutional Law. There IS NOT any checks and balances when it comes to DeSantis and the Florida Legislature! DeSantis is a FASCIST/AUTHORITARIAN and so is the Legislature, taking away Local Govt’s Rights (aka Home Rule). Florida is in WORSE SHAPE than when it was prior to 1999!

          1. Lonnie

            InSantis needs to go!

          2. Stephen J

You should probably move to NY or CA.

          3. Swiss88

Listening to all you silly little libs complaining about DeSantis makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. The only thing better would be seeing you all leave Florida PERMANENTLY!!

          4. Sheryl

I agree…I75 & I95 go North, leave. I hope Desantis runs for President, at least he’d run the country rather than run it into the ground as our current joke of a President is doing!

          5. nancy keyes

Florida is a great state to live in as we have seen with the influx of folks coming here. Take your blinders off.

          6. Walt

Living in an alternate universe? Move to CA then if you think liberal woke govt is so great. And you know what – turn about is fair play. If a bully (the woke left ) pokes you in the eye the only thing a bully understands is to punch him back in the nose and harder until they STOP!

          7. Snicker

Don’t like him move to CA, NY or any other blue BS state. Here’s hoping he’s an 8 year President.

          9. David A

Yep 8 yr president, maybe we can, this time tear down all the Government buildings, finish the mess Trump made. Dictator DeSantis! Remove human rights, punish anyone who disagrees with his positions.
You may not like Biden, but he is trying to bring both sides together. I am not his champion, but the man is trying, which is more to say than his predecessor.

          10. Unknown

I only want to point out 1 thing and 1 thing only not arguing about the situation but the supreme court has said businesses do not have 1st amendment right due to the constitutions writing.

          11. S Nogg

Wrong. Check out SCOTUS ruling in Citizens United. It gives Disney and any other corporation the right to NOT be muzzled.

DeSantis has absolutely overstepped his powers.

      3. Bonnie

I agree. The man frightens me.

      4. LibsWearBibs

As opposed to the ACTUAL divisive POTUS we have in the White House now? Gimme a break. They both suck.

      5. Diane

The ‘Free’ state is ONLY for those who don’t disagree with DeSantis. No free speech, that’s for sure! What an embarrassment.

      6. Dave Holloway

I agree. I will campaign for anyone who runs against him. This show he is vindictive and will destroy all who oppose his ideas at all costs.

      7. Alanmhess

Great gov. And not Marxist like Disney

      8. He’s extremely frightening. Waaaaaay to much power.

    2. Carole

      Right. Mussolini in training. Sad

      1. TopCat

Let’s see what happens in services, taxes and infrastructure in the area now that desantis has control. He did violate Freedom of Speech. He’s gotten what he wanted. What happens next?

      2. David A

Larry, if you hate Disney so much, why do you subscribe to Disney posts?
Maybe if you consider, all the people working at Disney World, paying taxes. All the products sold at WDW and the taxes that go to Florida. All the folks visiting Florida, also contributing to tourism and keeping hotels, restaurants in business.
Now I do think, employees should be paid better, but that is another issue with the whole Country and inflation.

    3. Eg

      DeSantis is terrible.

    4. Snicker

You people are a joke. Bots or brain dead liberals!

    5. Susie

      What a dictator

    6. David A

You mean Dictator! He is pissed and just wants his way!!
Putin is the same, just wants his way.

    7. Jack59

That comment can be taken two ways, I prefer to think it’s sarcastic.

    8. Not a sheep

And cue the liberal temper tantrums in 1…2…3.

    9. JD

Agree, Desantis is making the great state of Florida a whole lot better! Keep up the good work.

  2. Mikey

Just what is needed. Disney stuck their mouse nose in the wrong business and will now pay the price. They also had almost a year to fix their mess and chose not to do so.

Now they will have to apply for liquor license like every one else.

    1. Beth

Agree! Disney has been wonderful for 56 years and our governor just couldn’t stand to have someone disagree with him and as most dictators do, he had to squash them.

      1. Charles

I agree with our governor Disney should stick to entertainment.

      2. Teresa W.

        I agree wholeheartedly Beth!

        1. GaryW

I agree with the Governor. do any other private companies own their own little Kingdom? No! Is it fair to other companies? no!

      3. Bob

Beth, God says in the end times up will be down, right will be wrong, male will be female. Then He will rapture the church and America will become a third world nation. For more information read the Bible ( the oldest best seller every year since the First book was written)

        1. David A

          Bob, so well put. Revelation!
Maybe folks need to read this best seller!
And maybe the far right should heed the WORD.

    2. Jass

      👍

    3. Ken

      Go woke, go broke.

    4. Beth W.

There was no “fixing” it. Desantis lost it when his decision was questioned. Sadly, his decision should have been questioned way before that…only Disney had the guts to do it. So now we’ll see what the Bully Governor does to cause more problems.

      1. Snicker

        Go cry somewhere else.

    5. nancy keyes

      Totally agree with you.

    6. Hollie

Disney was standing up for the diversity of their employees. The governor is a dictator and thinks he rules the people of Florida & the school system. Now no African American studies.

  3. Marie

Hopefully Disney prices will come back down so an average family can afford to spend their vacation there without having to take out a second mortgage 🫤

    1. PL

That’s what I was thinking. The people that run Disney get bonuses in the billions. The average person cannot afford the cost of a visit yet they keep coming. Bring the cost down to a reasonable price.

      1. DC

Disney is not a public utility. The state cannot regulate its pricing policies. It may however force the mouse to find new digs in a friendlier state costing FL billions in job snd list tourism.

        1. HL

What a joke. Disney isn’t going anywhere. Lol. 365 days of sun no where else. No state income tax in any of our border states. The cost alone would bankrupt them. In less than 4 years someone else will have the governors job.

      2. Lonnie

Bonuses in the billions? I think not 😆

      3. Jane

What about the other parks around are there prices OK❓ .

    2. Janie Jo

      Janie

  4. Lynn March

Only time will tell, Disney made Central Florida what it is today.

  5. Just ME!

All businesses need to stay in their respective areas and stay out of politics! As individuals they have the right to think and as as they please! As a business they have NO right to speak as a whole, many employees hated what came out of this fiasco!

    1. We

That would be excellent if we could keep the money of businesses out of our politics. DeSantis did not mind taking money from Disney or any other corporation when he was running for office. He just did not like them exercising their right to free speech. Now the taxpayers of Florida will be left to pick up the price tag for the services that were rendered in Reedy Creek.

      1. Rob

It’s a simple fact. The California -based company flew in the face of the state of Florida and said they were going to do everything to defeat DeSantis and his policies and we as Floridians tell them to go take a flying leap!!! Disney is just reaping what sewed!!!

        1. Lonnie

          It’s a fact: sowed not sewed 🧌

          1. Phil

The poster was just demonstrating the intelligence oof the typical DeSantis voter in Florida.😁

      2. Bughunter

Human beings have the right to freedom of speech. Corporations do not. Disney’s CEO basically threatened DeSantis with Disney’s millions to try to intimidate him into doing Disney’s bidding. No Corporation is more powerful than the state of Florida, and Florida residents want Florida children protected. Any Corporation that threatens how we Floridians choose to protect our children, can do business elsewhere. Disney can either go back to protecting the innocence of childhood or good riddance to them. Florida doesn’t need them.

        1. You need to put down the crack pipe if you think if Disney leaves Florida it’s for the best you are one sad puppy and I don’t even visit them

        2. Happy

Well said go DeSantis thank you for protecting Florida’s children. I am a big Disney fan but I did not agree with them on this.

        3. Diane

Corporations DO have the right to free speech; have you heard f the ultra conservative Koch brothers industries?? HUGE PAC contributors.

        4. nancy keyes

          Agreed.

        5. A

          Very well said Bughunter

    2. Jon

Tell the to the Conservative Law Citizens United, that Gives Businesses that very right.

    3. Phil

WRONG! The Supremes ruled they are PEOPLE.🤪

    4. Hollie

Business make political contributions & politicians love them. Disney included. Chapek was standing up for his employees. The governor shouldn’t minded his own business & stayed out of Disney & the school system.

  6. Carol

Governor is acting like an king . He has taken over our courts and our schools, both local and universities. He appoints people who or federalists and even QAnon. He likes corporations interfering in our state as long as they agree with him. Poor Florida

    1. Rob

It’s called leadership. It’s called taking a stand against socialist policies that destroy the economy and jobs

      1. Carole

        No, it called authoritarian.

        1. nancy keyes

          You are clueless.

      2. Phil

YEAH! 3+% unemployment and businesses being brought back to America (think chips etc.); That’s real “socialism”!

    2. Dm

Well said! I totally agree! Hopefully, most sane people will see him for who he is a little fascist!

    3. None of your business

      Sure, Carol.

    4. Cindy

Don’t feel sorry for Florida. We’re thrilled with our Governor.

      1. Hld

Way to go Florida! All you haters, read the actual bill, not the liberal opinion

        1. Lou

It’s NOT Florida. It’s all DeSantis. You should read the bill actually, and not listen to the conservative bs…

        2. nancy keyes

          Yes they should, but won’t.

    5. You need to put down the crack pipe if you think if Disney leaves Florida it’s for the best you are one sad puppy and I don’t even visit them

    6. Raylene S

I agree 100% with you Carol. DeSantis is a bully. We are in deep trouble if he runs for president and succeeds.

    7. Phil

You left out “and contribute to his coffers” which ironically (and I might add stupidly) Disney did.

  7. John

I’m an old guy, was a child when things were simpler. Had the pleasure of being around when Walt was alive and if anyone here has gone back to revisit his plans and visions for Disney in Florida you would realize he just wanted to entertain people and children.
Not intentionally or purposely become a platform for political, religious or social causes. This was a direction taken recently by leadership within the organization
not respecting the founder’s vision or dreams.

  8. Linda Garfield

What this disgusting Governor has done, is beyond the pale. Thanks to Disney, the Central Florida area has become a first class tourist destination for individuals from around the world. And, helped our economy grow for decades. We have watched DeSantis destroy anyone or anything that disagrees with him. And, his lies insinuating that Disney is a “groomer” of children is filthy and without merit. Now, going after books in our schools and libraries that he doesn’t find appropriate, is simply, another manipulation to force our children into his mold. Our colleges and universities are also under attack. DeSantis will bully anything that gets in his way. And, he has absolutely no problem who gets hurt. However, I do have three questions concerning this man. First, if Disney is so terrible, why did he and his wife choose to be married there? Second, he was a history major in college and I’m sure he was required to read some of the very books and factual topics that he is now forbidding in our schools? And, thirdly, he taught in a college for a short time, and according to numerous students, he would party and drink with students, many underage. All this information is easy to research. This inquiring mind would like to know.

    1. Phil

WOW! THAT WAS GREAT! DIdn’t know that about our dictator, excuse me, “Governor”.

    2. Wilma

      Agree wholeheartedly.

  9. SFfS

DeSantis is Not combative, as the article states. He is trying to do what the Majority of Florida taxpayers want, a fair distribution.
It’s about time Disney pays it’s fair share. They have exploited Florida’s environments, as everyone knows, for their own gain. This is the tip of the iceberg.
There are so many more issues.

    1. Ken

If you think DeSantis is not combative, you 2 are peas in the same pod.

  10. Tracy

I’m a Floridian. F woke Disney is how so many feel. Its disgraceful. Poor Walt spinning in his grave. At least his body is.

  11. Deb D'Eliscu

Our Governor Ron DeSantis is right on track. We the People of Florida back him 100%
Walt is undoubtedly turning over in his grave with how politics have turned his dream into what it is today. Total garbage.

    1. Annie

I’m a person of Florida and I do not back DeSantis in any way. The man is a bully. Any thing he does is smoke and mirrors because he’s done NOTHING for Florida. DeSantis should be working on the insurance crisis not playing politics with the mouse. By the way, guess who’s going to pay for all that stuff Disney currently pays for. This is a bad deal for us.

      1. Tom R.

        You speak the truth.

      2. David A

DeSantis has so much time on his hands to take on running the Reddy Creek Division, instead of taking on the big issues, like CRIME, and costs of living now in Florida. How about rebuilding the coast after the Storms?
Maybe DeSantis should be like Jimmy Carter, grab the hammer and saw and help the folks who lost there home and business and put some “boots on the ground”

    2. Dm

You do not speak for Florida! The little fascist will have his moment and then be a stain on our history!

    3. Tom R.

Don’t say “We the people of Florida back him 100%”. Many of us Floridians don’t. The next thing he’ll do will probably be to implement a State Income Tax. To think I used to like and respect DeSantis. Now I see him as just another politician that’s in it for himself and not the people.

      1. Jan

Retaliation by a politician that will cost the taxpayers. Why try to “fix” something that isn’t broken. It’s sad that people don’t see this retaliatory action for what it is.

      2. Jane

Thank you Tom ❗️ Not all Floridians like De Santis . 🙏 he never becomes President.

      3. nancy keyes

But many more do back DeSantis here in Florida. Common sense will dictate. Not some illusional liberal whiners ready to always twist their agendas to suit themselves.

    4. John

You suck ! I didn’t support him. He doesn’t care about Disney World. He does everything to satisfy his base.

    5. Speak for yourself because I don’t care for him at all and never will I vote for him

    6. This is a governor who has no tolerance for anyone who is different from him or dares to speak against him. No 100% of the people in FL do NOT support him.

    7. Phil

I’m a Floridian too. Don’t presume to speak for me!

  12. Stephen

I think it’s funny how the banner image seems to convey that Gov. DeSantis and Walt Disney himself would be at odds- if anything, Walt would be totally on DeSantis’s side if he were alive to we the sort of company Disney has become.

  13. Ana

All the ones in favor of DiSantis, I am pretty sure your pockets are open to pay the price if the Reedy Creek District is dissolved. Because then, we the People have to pay all of those taxes. This is not about being right or wrong. This is a governor playing politics. He is not the governor of a state. He is the governor of his base. So, he is not doing me any favors, neither to his blind base. When you are a leader, you serve EVERYONE, not just the ones in favor of you. He is NOT A LEADER. He is a dictator. It is sad to see how many are just blind.

    1. Tom R.

      Totally agree with Ana.

      1. Roz

        Agreed agree

    2. Jane

      Spot on Ana. 👍

I’ve lived here all my life and enjoyed Disney when it was Walt’s original dream. But to run a muck and have their own government per say, was not right and it got terribly out of hand through the years. Enough is enough! They need to operate like every other business in the state of Florida! Go DeSantis! You’re doing the right thing.

    1. Loren M

My only issue is that if he is doing the right thing, why wasn’t it done when he first took office? He did this because Disney said something he didn’t like. Do if they didn’t say anything he wouldn’t have done what he has done.

  15. Valley Ebe

And don’t worry about the taxes people, we won’t be taxed for this, just wait and watch.

  16. Annie

DeSantis needs to worry about real problems in Florida, the insurance crisis for one. Whenever it looks like he’s not doing his job the diversion comes and he makes up some outrageous BS and picks a fight with someone. He’s the King of out-skirting on his real duties as Governor. Leave the Mouse alone. We don’t want to pay for RC.

  17. DMD

Go Governor DeSantis!! Now Disney World will pay their fair share of taxes towards the surrounding municipalities that Disney World sits in. Just like Universal Studios, Islands of Adventures, Sea World, Busch Gardens, etc. Disney World is NOT the all mighty. They should have stayed in their lane and just continue doing what they were good at entertainment and that is it. Politics does not belong in businesses.

  18. Bill

About time. Government is government and a for-profit business is a private business. Should not be merged.

  19. SLF

I’m so proud to live in the great state of Florida. Finally someone who will stand up for parents and children. Gov. DeSantis is the best governor in America.

    1. Fab 5

      You’re a jagoff.

  20. Sunshine

I agree with our Governor ,we Florida tax payers are tired of it , Disney should of remained Disney ,but Disney became political ,who is it to blame ,no the Governor ! We stand with our Governor 200% and those who do no agree can move to New York or Florida !Peace ~

  21. Liz

Disney was the safe haven for children and families. Disney you have sexualized your brand to the point of being groomers and predators. Good riddance if you leave Florida. Thank God for Gov. De Santis! This article leaves much to be desired

    1. BL

Disney should stick to entertainment, not a political agenda. Desantis all the way!

  22. kim

Our governor has to his back on the citizens of Florida. What he is doing to Disney World is criminal. He is destroying Florida Schools. If you think there is a shortage of teachers now😂😂😂 Just wait, no one will want to teach in Florida. Increase the pay all you want stay!!!!!

  23. David

Disney has become woke – spreading racial hate and sexual confusion among very young children. I live in Florida, and while I have been to Disney many times, I will not take my 3 kids there anymore and totally support what DeSantis is doing.

  24. Shawn

Welcome to the new Florida, a political police state! If you don’t agree with Ronnie Boy he will abuse his power and change a long standing law to punish you! I guess The first amendment isn’t law here in the swampland of America…

  25. Teresa W.

I believe DeSantis has way stepped over his boundary here! Lord help us if he becomes POTUS!

    1. Rroe

Please enjoy your BIDEN and the HIGH Cost of LIving. Don’t complain…..You voted for that Moron!!!

  26. Daisy Jane

    Go woke…..Go Broke!!!!!!

  27. Swmpfx3000

What is missing from all of this (because Disney wants it that way) is that their self governance allowed them to not have to report all the rapes and other crimes that went on their in order to maintain their “pure” image. That whole governance concept went a little too far. A lot of small towns have their own police and fire and Disney certainly was capable of the same. However, they needed to have openness and oversight like any other city.

    1. Phil

If Disney didn’t report “all the rapes and other crimes”, how are YOU aware of them?

  28. Rroe

Don’t blame the Governor of Florida, Blame Disney for getting into Politics which they if they were smart enough should have never done. Disney is Liberal controlled and caves to the WOKE. They deserve what they got. Have fun with their continued high prices and screwing the guests further and further.

  29. Keri Johnson

As an avid Disney goer, having passes since I moved to FL 15 years ago, I think dissolving Reedy Creek is not going to affect any of us at all. There will still be police, fire and ems. I support Governor DeSantis taking on Disney and their woke approach to everything these days. As a mom of 4 and grandma of 2 I no longer support Disney values. I think there are more people that feel this way today and Disney better start seeing the bigger picture.

  30. Ora

I think it is wonderful that Florida shows a business that the state is still on control over it’s operations.

  31. Jarvis

When the fringe minority gets to rule, this is the mess it causes. Do not hire fat white girls with blue hair and nose rings.

  32. Mark

The government and the new district will have no bearing on how”snooty, liberal or progressive the company becomes. It’s about physical attriubutes in the area.
I hope Disney puts out more liberal and gay content until your eyes start to bleed.

    1. Chris B

So you want liberal and gay content for children to watch? This basically means you’re a pedophile. Expect a knock on your door soon.

  33. Roe

Florida, beware, the State Income Tax is on the DeSantis agenda. It will happen sooner than later.
Floridians will be paying like everyone in the US.

  34. william

The CFTOD under control of DeSantis should change the name of Disney World to DeSantis World!

  35. James

Everyone wants to bash DeSantis but no one wants to focus on the two issues here. 1) Disney advocated that it was ok to discuss sex with young children. This wasn’t ok in 1965 when Disney World was just a dream. It wasn’t ok in 1971 when Disney World opened, and it’s not ok in the 2020’s. 2) what you have with RFID is a corporation acting like a government taxing and policing citizens that have nothing to do with Disney. This was a power grab by Disney in 1965 and it is still unprecedented and unacceptable today. Regardless of what you think of DeSantis, Disney is the one that had a power grab in the 60’s and Petra yes the publics trust throughout time.

    1. Phil

Disney has the Constitutional right to advocate under the First Amendment, just like any other person living in our great country. Just ask the Supremes.

And, if you are a third grade teacher and one of your students (probably around 8 or 9) is being teased or bullied in your classroom because he/she has two dads or two mom’s, are you going to be muzzled like a cur so you can’t explain that such teasing and bullying is wrong? Or, would that be too “woke” and a violation of DeSantis’ theory of what’s right? Clearly, if you are the parent of one of the teasers/bullies, you’ve failed miserably to do your job to explain that everyone isn’t the same as us, and that doesn’t make them worthy of being culled out and bullied. Maybe you need a little “wokeness”.

      1. Dan

That’s for the voters, the courts, school board, and the state to work out. Disney has no stake in what is taught in public schools.

Disney also wasn’t just issuing a statement or giving an opinion on it. They effectively declared war on the state. They injected themselves right into the middle of that culture war. Of course the state was going to respond.

Disney also needs to realize where they operate. Florida is a red state with a conservative legislature and a conservative governor that was just re-elected by a 20-point margin. Florida is not California. Orlando is not Anaheim. Florida is not going to allow some overpaid, woke CEO in Burbank dictate what is taught to children in Florida schools.

  36. Wilma

Really. Have you heard of The Villages. It is it’s own government and covers three counties. Just like Disney! It has been around as long as Disney. As long as they support DeSantis, he won’t mess with them. I have lived in Florida since 1963. Believe me it has not gotten better each year.

  37. Joey Manzanares

I am an Orlando resident and a long time Disney Pass Holder. Disney isn’t what it use to be. They should have never gotten into the political arena and definitely shouldn’t be indoctrinating young, innocent children. The 5% or less shouldn’t be pushing their agenda on the rest of us. If they kept to themselves maybe all this wouldn’t be taking place.

  38. NJ MOM

All DiSantis did was fight for parents for young minds and Disney was against him called his bill a complete different name. That is scary that a company with such strength gets involved. I’m happy that DiSantis is trying to gain some control remember he once loved Disney and was married there. Maybe he wants Disney to stay out of politics.punishment and Lesson learned. I don’t understand why people are so sensitive about NOT having our children learn about sex at 5years old. I’m glad someone in their right mind is speaking out and standing up for PARENTS. We are ready to move to FL because of DiSantis protecting our children.

    1. David A

      NJ MOM
So we want our children to learn sexual orientation from their peers, calling names in school, for people who are different yelling at them “queer” “fagot” and other harmful words to their peers who may be different than them.
Maybe education “lite” on types of people.
5yr olds do not need to know “sex” topics, but should learn to except ‘people’ for who they are and what they are.
This is where minds are formulated, in schools and teaching.
If there seems to be a problem in the education process, it needs to be addressed by educators, parents and leave the government out of the process. Burn books? Leave education to the other children who may have wrong values are thoughts.
There is no right answer for all, but leave it too the schools and educators to come up with a solution, NOT ANOTHER LAW which in itself is flawed. Protect children and educate them in the forms of society and differences in people of our nation and the free world.d

  39. Walt

The only entity or person who destroyed the Reedy Creek district is Disney. And what a sad day for the legacy of Walt Disney. Shut up and entertain – not indoctrinate people!

  40. Roy Fiehler

I believe Walt Disney corp. is fantastic in family entertainment, they should leave politics out and concentrate on what they do best. Right now after being season pass holders for years ,we had to give them up because of your prices. Get back to reality ;the way you were. You will keep Disney a house hold name again.

  41. Wilma

I think people are not thinking rationally. Everyone says let Disney pay their taxes. Do you think they will have a large tax bill? Look at Trump who only paid a little over $200 in taxes for several years. Disney will probably make more money for shareholders this way since they will not have the expense of all the roads, ETM’s, police, etc. that they have been paying for. This will now be up to the taxpayers to foot the bill.
And if you think big business has not had their hand in government, you must be stupid. It has always been that way. Oh yes, and Disney is not the only “district” in this state.
I am a shareholder in Disney and I looking forward to the increase in my dividends because of this.

    1. David A

      Wilma, you are so RIGHT!
Maybe some of the naysayers on this post will wake up and read your posts and THINK!

  42. Robert Hoff

I’m sure Disney I settled with a negotiated settlement for the near term future (5-10 yrs). They’re looking down the road when FL gets it’s act together and has a progressive or centrist gov,t/leaders in state govmt and will readdress their original Reedy Creek Development bill.

  43. Jay

I believe DeSantis is just a bully. He was probably a bully growing up and he has just taken it up a notch.

  44. Jan

What an ass! DeSantis is truly screwing up the state of Florida.

  45. AG

I can’t stand DeSantis. What an arrogant and divisive bully. Reminds me of Trump in many ways. I would never vote for him unless against Trump.

  46. Irish1701

Good job FL, I love it. The mouse house needs to stay out of politics. Walt would have never gotten involved in any of those.

  47. Yoda

Goodbye Disney World and Epcot. And universal studios. All of you can go elsewhere. Your too expensive for the audience you are designed for. You have outlived your usefulness. And you have stepped foot into personal issues you have no right to make any rules about. You should have shut your mouth. Now because of that. Everyone remembers you for your woke political stance! You have become a sick destination

    1. David A

  48. Chris B

Now Disney can be like any other business in the state and pay their share. DeSantis isnt being a “dictator” For those using that word you might want to learn what the word means first. A dictator is what you have in North Korea. China, and Russia. Ron DeSantis is a governor that only wants everybody to run their business correctly in the state.

    1. Joseph

Do you Chris believe Disney was not paying its fair share? Do tell how they ripped off the state of Florida, Orange, and Osceola counties. I will presume you are a well-informed Floridian with ledgers of past finances that Disney escaped reconciling.
I do not share your information, but logic tells me that Disney has been up to date with their debts as per the law. I currently do not know of them being subject to litigation for past (or current) debts. I do know there is plenty of rumor and slander made by many jealous business owners over the past 50+ years about the wonderful negotiations Disney reached upon setting up shop in the 1960s. A negotiation anyone of them would have taken without blinking an eye or giving thought about other businesses not receiving the same deal.
Dictator: holds or abuses an extraordinary amount of personal power; often characterized by some of the following: suspension of elections and civil liberties; proclamation of a state of emergency; rule by decree; repression of political opponents; not abiding by the procedures of the rule of law, and the existence of a cult of personality centered on the leader.
A dictatorship is a state ruled by one dictator or by a small clique.

A dictatorship can be an Authoritarian clique (aka Florida’s Congress with DeSantis as leader). DeSantis has suspended civil liberties when he has chosen to repress political opponents (Disney and Warren, both had their 1st Amendment rights trampled on), not abiding by the rule of law (it is against the Florida Constitution for DeSantis to remove an elected official without Florida Senate action), and he has a cult of personality centered on himself (or would you disagree?) within the Florida Congress and numerous municipal governments across the state.

  49. Zed

The concept of freedom of speech would suggest an openness to diverse opinions which would lead discourse that would ultimately result in policies that work for everyone. Some, see freedom of speech as an opportunity to voice their opinion, and only accept the opinions of others if they align with their own. This is the case of Ron De Santis. Dissolving Reedy Creek was never a consideration until Disney disagreed with his prejudicial and xenophobic policies. Hopefully, if he decides to toss his hat in the ring for Republican leadership, the next governor will be less of an insecure, pouting bully who may reverse all the ill intentioned and revenge based policies he inacted

  50. Kevin Smith

DeSantis is a shameless scam artist. The only clowns who fall for his bs are moron conservatives, and there’s certainly plenty of those.

    1. David A

      Well put

  51. Dan

It’s well known that Walt was a Republican and a conservative in his later years. He also hated communism. Even so, he kept a lot of political activism out of the company as much as possible. He wanted the focus to be on general family entertainment. Period. The last thing he wanted was for Disneyland to turn into some political circus, no matter the direction. Disneyland is supposed to be apolitical….it’s own little fantasyland. It’s supposed to be its own bubble from the real world.

It’s a safe bet he would not be in agreement with a lot of the direction of this company over the past 20 years, especially. He would be completely aghast at how politically vocal and politically activist the company has become today. And it’s leaders are largely far-left ideologues that have come out and declared their activism. That is something Walt would have never done.

  52. Ed

What would this pathetic governor do if Disney decides to exit
    Florida?

  53. Armindo Cortez

For 55 years, the Reedy Creek Improvement District has effectively and efficiently made Walt Disney World one of the most visited tourist attractions in the US, if not the world. The development of the greater metro Orlando area would have never happened to the extent that it has without the influence of Walt Disney World’s Reedy Creek Improvement District. I’m of the opinion that if it isn’t broken, why fix it? Politics should not be the reason!

    1. David A

      excellent, well put!

  54. Dave Holloway

This shows he wants to crush anyone who has different opinions than his. He never considered what the overall effect this has on voters or how debt will be managed. If you take over all the infrastructure you should take on the debit for that. Now all emergency services Disney has been paying the counties for will simply come out of taxes in lieu of Disney paying for them. I will campaign for ANyone who runs against Him for anything.

  55. David A

This post is not to complain about Disney, prices, history. It is about a Trump JR. who is also a “Bully” anti gay, prejudicial individual who appeals to the FAR, very far right, and not the Biblical true believer!
“The term far right is often used for more extreme, nationalistic viewpoints, including fascism and some oppressive ideologies.”
It is a shame, that this guy is getting his way, and having a HISSY fit over Disney who had a CEO disagree with an absurd law put into place. Disney most likely has a plan, and DeSantis does not have the time to run Reddy Creek or do justice for the Disney Property. Maybe Disney exec’s will just wait out the time, or make DeSantis work, instead of barking at people who disagree with him.
This seems to be just another Dictator, emerging to toot his own horn. It is a shame that folks will support this kind of behavior, instead of voting in a real leader, who is quiet and carry’s a big stick, and is looking out for everyone Democrat, Republican, liberal or conservative, but people who are just people, trying to live a decent life. We are all people who are born, equal, and need to be loving toward fellow mankind.

  56. Joseph

Let’s see if you are a conservative or a liberal.

Tell me which you prefer and if you agree or disagree with this statement:
I believe in a political and social philosophy that promotes individual rights, civil liberties, democracy, and free enterprise. (a)
Furthermore, I am an advocate and supporter of free-market capitalism, deregulation, and reduction in government spending. (b)

    a. liberal (Europe); conservative (US)
    b. neoliberal (US)

  57. Joseph

I foresee litigation the first time DeSantis, the Florida Congress, or the revamped RCID tries to insist Disney pay any monies outside their regular taxes for improvements anywhere whether within the district or not. DeSantis’s group wanted control of the fire department, security, roadways, power station, and other aspects of the district outside of Disney’s property and company reigns, well good luck with it.

I see them as holding mum, thinking: We’ll run our business, pay our taxes, and let you take care of the rest.

  58. Luisa

I’m not in agreement with Florida Governor. It is sad that he is retaliating against Disney. Sad!

  59. I do not agree with Ron DeSantis about Disney World. It has been in central Florida for decades and all of a sudden its a problem. You need to leave them alone. First you go after our schools. Many generations have been fine being taught about the founding fathers of this country. Where they be red, yellow, balck or white.About slavery and the difference of cultures. We did great and children of today will be fine also. Leave it alone for God’s sake. And leave Disney World alone to. They’ve brought so much happiness for many decades. Just go home DeSantis and go to bed!

  60. Tim Douglas

DeSantos and trump two peas in a pod. Both men support the communist republican party. They should go back to Russia and join Putin. The three turds.

  61. Cheryl

I think it’s very sad! I think Desantis is on a power trip, and a warning to all if you don’t support what his way he is coming after you, that is dangerous to the citizens of the state. Ir comes down to

  62. Jonathan

DISNEY SHOULD ” STAY OUT” of Politics. Disney shouldn’t have any opinion on things that don’t concern them directly especially teaching
alternative life styles and Gender Identity to Children. Don’t think you’re too BIG not get hit in the pocketbook when you mettle in things that don’t relate or concern YOUR BUSINESS! Hopefully with the New CEO back at the helm, Disney will bring back the WHOLESOME ENTERTAINMENT that made them a success in the first place. I’m sure the brainiacs that influenced Disney to get involved in that in the first place will be FIRED! First step to a LONG road back.

  63. Len

DeSantis is trying to control everything he does and this is a good example. School superintendents have been fired after disagreeing with his opposition to mask mandates by backing his choices for the various school boards, etc. there are plenty of law suits in effect that is costing us a lot of money. We need to wake up to what he is doing!!!

  64. Rob H

Desantis is nothing more than a bully and his henchmen the Florida Legislature is his enforcer. It is his way or the highway.

  65. Jerry Mann

Leave as is. Work out the problem. The state and local government can not and will not keep everything up to what we know as disney world standards.

    1. Bitsy

Comeon! Nothing lasts forever!!….except the Kingdom of God!!! lol! Besides Disney is sooooo yesterday!!!! Who goes to Disney!!!???? Close your doors!! Waste of time!

  66. JOHN CARTER ANGELL ,M.Ed.

Gov DeSantis needs to tone down his rhetoric. He is a devisive Fascist Christian Governor.

REEDY CREEK should have remained as is and the State of Florida should stay out of its business!

  67. Gary

People are not born gay, their born normal until Satin influences them through manipulation by other people and that’s why things are getting worst, because church’s are becoming worldly influenced which means they are compromise to the evil things of this world and the judgment is getting worst in this country. Their are 32 versus that shows God is against homosexulty and those are the fax know matter if you like or not.

  68. Billy

Go WOKE and go BROKE!! When you become Socialist based you are working to spread a doctrine that has proven worldwide to destroy human rights and establish two distinct levels of humankind – THE WEALTHY RULING CLASS and the DOWNTRODDEN WORKING CLASS. Good riddance and take all the fellow Socialists with you!!
