Typical corporate response where no admittance of blame is made upon Disney, and or the contractors for construction of the ride.
To be honest, the Tron Coaster could have been much better designed to the original film. The attraction could have had multiple tracks, and or a dedicated track with accesible units and multiple lightcycles to each color of the cycles, shorter train cars, to allow for more trains on the track, and more accessible cars.
Everybody does not have to do everything all the time. If your fat, too bad. If you’re otherwise disabled, condolences but that’s life. Not riding Tron is the least of your worries. Hey Disney; don’t apologize. They’re never satisfied.
I hope your under 6 feet two inches or never did any leg press or other leg strenght exercises in school(thinking of football). Weight has nothing to do with it.
This ride was designed for Asian market. So teens will be fine. Its the adults over 6’2” and those that played competive sports that will have an issue.
First of all the Fat and Disability Hater, shame on you! Everyone has the right to be treated fairly. And that includes at the Walt Disney Parks, Cruises or Adventures by Disney. Walt Disney first words on opening Disneyland was “To All Who Come Here!” The Share Holders $ and CEO $ do not care about Walt Disney Dream. As the sister of a disabled brother (whose love of Disney is no different now than when he was a child) when he was a small child it was very easy to get him on the rides. Now five decades later Disney has made to “NO” effort to make it so that these same (and they are people with the same rights as you and I) people who have grown to be adults can still ride the ride AND enjoy “ALL” things Disney. So Disney Share Holders$ and CEO$ ARE YOU Against Adults with Weight Issues and Disabilities? Sure seems like it from where I stand!
Everyone has the right to ride the ride. Nobody is denying that at all.
They may not have the ability to ride it, but that’s something else entirely. I can run a marathon others can’t. That doesn’t mean I shouldn’t.
Being disappointed someone can’t do something of fair, but saying it’s wrong to exist in a state that excludes some is crazy. 90% of the planet can’t even afford a ticket to Disney World but yet you go.
They have the right to be treated fairly, but they don’t have the right to demand that every little thing at the park be catered to them because they didn’t have the willpower to maintain their weight at a certain level. And I don’t want to hear all this, some people can’t help it, because yes they can. They choose not to and then let it get so bad that it’s very very difficult to reverse. Either way, it is still their fault. maybe, if everybody wasn’t so sensitive, we could use this as a learning opportunity for some of the people in this country to realize that being gluttonous and eating whatever you want all the time has consequences.
To be honest, I understand my friend is 6’3″ and around 289lbs he was a football star. But he is ok with the ride not being able to ride he doesn’t feel bad and says it’s made for short people to enjoy life so more. I understand the hate fr “fat” people but they chose that life and they need to understand not everything will be for them. Find happiness in other things. Just like I’m short and love basketball but it isn’t for me. You don’t see me wanting the NBA to allow 5’5″ players lol that’s the best part of life everyone has something for everyone. I’m truly sorry for the disabled but the family should make them forget and make their day better with other rides more accessible. You can’t expect a company to change an already designed ride to fit the need of everyone. It’s unreal and I’m sure very expensive.l to design on a certain weight limit. I mean where would we stop. 300+ lbs. That’s just unreal to be honest
Disabled? Obesity isn’t a disability, in most cases, it’s a lifestyle. I’m 6’2″, 230 lb and did fit the ride vehicle, so the crying that anyone over 6′, and of an average body size, won’t “fit”, isn’t true. A 40+ inch waist or obese body type is NOT average
Right on! Obesity is a disease. A life threatening disease. NOT an identity or a right that should be catered too.
If you have a cardiac disease, you can’t/shouldn’t ride space mountain. If you’re obese and can’t fit in the tron seat, you can’t ride it! Same difference.
I’ve seen young 20 yr olds ride it, I’ve seen big older men ride it (one concerned about his size), I’ve also seen someone with knee problems ride this and all had no problem at all. Every ride is not made for all people but I feel Disney sure tries to please everyone.
Well, I’ll happily ride it, as I’ll have no problem fitting. Disney can’t control what other people do with their bodies. I won’t even bring airlines into this. If you want to bulk up fitness wise, that’s your choice. If you like to eat, that’s your choice. The only people with zero choice are the tall people, in which case they can take the seats with the lap bar. They will always be complainers.
As a fat person, I fit on this comfortably. Enjoy the ride but it was too short. I did see other fat, average, fit and tall people get put in the back because they can’t fit. So, it isn’t a weight issue like some of the POS commenters on here assume. Basically, if you have big calves, your out of luck.
If you’re too fat, just lose weight. You know if you’re too big for this ride. The problem isn’t Disney, the problem is you’re putting too much pie in the pie hole.
If you’re too #at, just lose weight. You know if you’re too big for this ride. The problem isn’t Disney, the problem is you’re putting too much pie in the pie hole.
My big ol fat self will just sit and laugh at all the gym rats who get sent to stand in the ADA line, because they are too swole to ride….gotta do leg day, right? I’m happy to be squishy! 🙂
It’s simple folks… stop eating so damn much and maybe you won’t have to worry or complain about not fitting in rides. Obesity is a real problem here in the U.S.
There may be, but there is only one reason for uncontrolled obesity. Some people it is harder to lose weight, I get that. That being said, if you know, you are one of those people, then maybe you should watch what you eat, maybe you should try to work out a little bit, maybe you should drink more water, maybe you should do everything possible to make sure you don’t continue to put on weight. It’s called personal responsibility in this country has lost any idea of what that means.
Amazing so many folks don’t realize it’s not about weight. My son is 6’4” and very husky and fit on just fine. Others are maybe under 200 pounds and didn’t fit. If you’re very athletic with larger calf’s you may not fight. Maybe the fat shamers need to switch to shaking the athletic builds. I’d rather be heavy than someone with a small hateful mind. JMO
I got to ride this twice. I had no problems with safety bars or back restraint. I did have neck strain on first ride ride since your leaning forward and looking up . No problems on second ride. My main problem with ride was it was too short of ride. I didn’t time it, but it seemed to be over in one minute. I would have been pissed off if I had to stand in line for an hour or more to get on it. I wouldn’t get on it if I ever went back to Magic Kingdom.
Just another attraction that fits Christine McCarthy’s narrative that would be better for everyone’s waistline if they just eat less portions.
Personally, I think Disney should have done better research on the average American’s size. They may have built a better mousetrap if they did..
For all the fat shamers on here, watch a video of the ride. There’s a metal bar that hugs your calf. It’s a problem for people with big calves, whether obese or muscular.
I don’t think Disney did anything wrong. You can’t cater to everyone and they did their best by adding unique lap bar seats. I am definitely not slim (I am actually pretty Chubby) and the ride seats felt like it was too big for me. I also saw people with larger frame (maybe like 300lbs+) get on no problem. If they catered every ride to people with motion sickness, then the rides would not be as thrilling. There are many other attractions out there if this ride isn’t for you. Although it’s a cool ride, I was not as wowed with the ride as much as rise of the resistance though.
Honestly, I’m disabled and have a tough time with many rides despite my love for them. I’m actually amazed that they have a lap bar style car on the train at all! That is pretty amazing from an access standpoint because you just don’t see that at the average everyday park that has a motorcycle style attraction.
I have ridden many motorbike style coasters and they are certainly not good for everyone especially those with any sort of back pain or any conditions that COULD cause back pain. But overall they’re really unique and alot of fun.
I honestly give Disney a TON if props for this. They’re never going to please everyone. It’s just not possible. I’m sure they’ll make adjustments as needed to an extent because there’s only so much you can do in this type of situation. Perhaps they’ll add another train and some point that gives guests the option for that type of lap bar experience instead. Like wait for the accessible cue to fill and then once you have enough, insert the accessable train in the mix for the next run through then remove it again until the next time it fills up, similar to how they do for other coasters in many parks.
This has been up and running for 6 years at the Shanghai park without issue… Americans who can’t fit simply shouldn’t ride it or mix a salad and have goals…
i think every theme park every ride should have atleast one or two rows that skinny challenged aka fat people can ride . if over half the people in AMERICA is obese then one or two rows with wider seats and extra harness should not be a problem or have seats for each and every ride outside ticket booth so we can see if we want to buy a ticket to a park that doesnt include us , THE MORJORITY WE LIKE TO RIDE TOO . BUT TO FIND OUT AFTER YOU SPENT 150.00 TO GET IN AND NOW YOU DONT FIT IS TOO LATE AND THEY DONT REFUND . before anyone says it yes its my fault im fat but i still deserve a seat if i pay for a ticket i pay for extra seat on airplanes just to be comfortable and nt to impose on others . one or two seats wont hurt .
Does no one understand that if you don’t fit it is because an unsecured safety bar and in this case back too, you can fly off the ride. Most attractions have one or two accessible seats. So you’ll u have to wait, before fast passes everyone just waited their turn. Get over yourselves. Safety is number one and they do have accommodations
I would normally say: So it’s not fair that you don’t fit this ride? Life isn’t fair! (I have large calves; I probably will not fit, btw). However: Disney is trumpeting diversity AND inclusion at every turn, so shouldn’t they be considering the vast number of people who will be EXCLUDED from this ride? I hear you will have a longer wait to ride in the car in the back if you do not fit. That’s not great either.
Ugh! The hate on this page is deplorable. And the discrimination is just running rampant. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but just because you are, does it mean you have to voice it.
Disney has produced phenomenal rides in the past 5 yrs but they need to lower the amount of guests in each park. Last time we were there in November we spent 12 hours between Epcot and Hollywood studios. Guess what… we only got on Star Wars Resistance and Guardians of the Galaxy. That was it $400 later. All the other attraction at both parks were 2.5 hours at least but due to Virtual queues availability we couldn’t wait 3 hours for a ride that interfered with the lightning lane and virtual queue. Total disappointment
The two attractions were fantastic but not worth $400+ Now hearing about Tron I don’t even want to ride it.
While I understand that people feel left out and not everyone feels like are treated fairly. Let’s me honest for a minute. Not all rides can be made for everyone. That’s why we have height requirements. In recent years theme parks have added some seats for people that are larger. While on older rides it’s not an issue at times. But let’s take Space Mountain it’s an older ride and I’ve seen oeol not fit nobody complains. Mine Train has seats that fit me perfectly and I’m 5’1 and about 120. So people larger than me can’t be comfortable if they can ride at all. But let’s look at the flip side here. As a smaller person I can tell you that on a lot of rides I still move around with the restraint on me. Because I’m small. Not all rides could safely accommodate smaller people and we aren’t even talking about just kids if they make them for larger people as well. Maybe is the seats are that restrictive they should have made more modified ones. But if it wasn’t safe for smaller people, we would just be complaining about that. You can’t have rides that are safe for literally everyone especially if you are building thrill rides. It’s about making the best ride to suit people safely. It’s just a recent thing (past decade or two) that modified seats were even a thing and Universal did it before Disney. As someone with a disability (although I don’t need a chair) I understand sometimes things are hard. And I know larger people can get frustrated but Disney tried by doing a modified seat. They can’t always make seats bigger and still have it safe. I even saw where people were too heavy and It’s a Small World’s boat wouldn’t move. Sometimes you can’t always ride everything. It’s disappointing and maybe not always fair. But it’s not different than being too short. Check the seats before you ride and if need be go for the back row. It’s sucks but it’s a ride it’s not life or death.
I find it interesting that the ride has been at Shanghai Disney since it opened and there hasn’t been any of these type of complaints. I find am finding this very telling of those that frequent Disney here in the US and the very poor attitude we are presenting
