D23 Gold are the biggest fans? Really? Not people like DVC who have invested tens of thousands.
Random ticketing helps thwart scripting and bots utilized to gain ticket access. While it isn’t fool proof it does help give a much fairer chance than FCFS models do. Yes Luck is involved, but on FCFS model, most of those complaining STILL weren’t getting tickets.
Same concept is also used in person so people do not wait long times in lines, sometimes overnight depending on what a specific venue allows.
I’m D23 and AP. I tried for both, got neither. However, I also realize there are thousands of people who qualify for these preview events and Disney can’t get everyone in. Being an AP means I’ll go another time. Everyone will get to ride after April 4. Waiting just means I won’t have to pay Disney another $50 for a two hour ride window. No biggie here.
The AP review was a disaster as well. I do not know how many spots were available, but I was waiting online over 2 hours and did not get in. Maybe because up to 5 additional non-AP guests were permitted to be added to each AP who did get a spot? Seriously Disney? Not good.
