The real problem with the current MCU film output is that the filmmakers have forgotten the core humanity of the characters that first captured our imaginations. Flawed and weak human beings thrust into fantastic situations is what separated Marvel from DC. Peter Parker caught colds, had social awkwardness, and had to struggle trying to sew patches in his Spiderman suit. Tony Stark was a flawed, spoiled, pampered rich kid that needed to learn humility. Steve Rodgers had heart but the body of a sub-averege guy. The messages were strong, human messages that were relatable. The more cosmic the films get, the less relatable they are — even if the spectacle is impressive. Now, with multiverse and alternate timelines, everything that happens means less. Forget about being ‘woke’ – it’s not what made the stories great. Simplify. Trim down. Become smaller and reach more hearts – the audiences will keep coming back.
So they shift from Avengers focus to X-Men & FF. It’s only practical to emphasize various sub-groups within MCU. It’s evolution. Yes, more human interest stories, horror, mutants, whatever. 2040? The whole shebang gets rested or totally re-booted.
