Love this!I want to experience the ride without seeing a screen in front of me. Especially in the dark rides where the screens can be blinding and even more distracting!
That would be at least common courtesy, especially after everyone endured the long wait time in line and spent hundreds, if not thousands of dollars to be there.
You old ass generation is so damn self centered and narcissistic and they didn’t even do anything beneficial for the country and ended up with nothing to show living through the easiest times in American history
It’s a safety issue if nothing else! You drop a phone on the track and it gets stuck.. that derails the train for the next riders and possibly a shut down for the whole day.. and that’s if nobody gets hurt!
Our generation built everything you see, touch and use.
Yours does nothing but whine, complain and cannot even tell the difference between a Man and a Woman.
In effect, your a loser.
You sir… Are correct. All these keyboard warriors are nothing but weak little cowards who wouldn’t last a second in a physical confrontation. Blue haired pansies…
Without the “old ass generation,” the Disney parks, and all Disney products, would not exist. Start respecting your elders, which is something we we had drilled into us, because news flash, you’ll be old too if you’re lucky and given that opportunity.
I don’t know why you would have you cell out on a ride in the first place. I admit I will bend some rules (the people mover is a great place for a snack and drink just take the trash with and give the cast member deniability). But my BFF’s first meeting with Madame Leota was ruined thanks to someone taking a picture with flash. Reality is the rules are there to keep you safe. It irritates that Disney had settled lawsuits when someone knowingly broke repeatedly stated rules and got hurt or in a few cases died. Take the health warnings seriously people.
So you think the rules are there for a reason, and should be followed, except for the rules you are fine breaking. Can’t everyone else say that for the rules they think shouldn’t apply to them? Not trying to come off as harsh, just pointing out how we got to where we are with the chaos.
Here is a question. Why would you need the Disney app while riding a roller coaster? Think about it for a minute before you answer like you did before.
Agree. You’re literally missing the ride yourself when trying to film it. Why spend all that time in line just for internet likes? How is that more enjoyable then the park itself?
I’m ok with this kind of thing the only question would be can it at least be in a bag or are they going to have a special sign saying where they can put there phone before going on the rides cause let’s face it almost anyone has a phone for themselves these days but not everyone goes to the rides with someone some go plainly by themselves no other person going to the park with them. So yeah what exactly are going to be the options to do with the phone before going on the ride. Really that’s my only question to this new rule well also here’s the other part to that question what if that’s the only gadget you got on you because of this whole all new gennie thing for each and everything you want to do
The reason for the rule is that so many people drop items during the ride—especially phones—that shutting down the ride to retrieve dropped items slows the ride and makes long lines even longer.
Yes, it’s cool to video the ride, but sadly, Disney is tired of collecting dozens of phones—and other items—every day.
The accompanying sign, that Disney’s not responsible for dropped items, should’ve been enough.
Stopping the youtube, rumble videos of the Disney rides might be another reason for the ban on cell phones. Does Disney Inc consider their rides to be intellectual property like a movie?
Exactly. The last time we were there, I overheard a cast member tell a woman she would need to come back either right before the park closes, or the next morning because the maintenance people needed the ride to be completely stopped and shut down before they could even try to get inside and start to look for her phone. She was not happy to hear those words and started getting even more upset.
I was laughing a bit and just mentioned to my wife that now, she’ll be able to enjoy the Disney Experience instead of having her face stuck in her phone, and that she should just make an insurance claim and get a new phone.
She heard what I said, and got even more upset for a second, then realized what I said and smiled when she realized and then said, “new phone,” as she walked away. I wonder how much her deductible was?
Love this….now ban the live streamers. They are sooo dang annoying to be around at the parks. I have complained and Disney has refunded me with a free day. I think they are going to do it.
As someone who can’t get to the parks at all and watches live streams constantly, No! This is the only way some of get to enjoy Disney throughout the year.
My father took us to WDW the first month that it opened in 72 , it really was the happiest place on earth , we’ve gone every 5 years without fail , sadly my dad passed in 05 , I’ve continued this family tradition with my children and now grandchildren , I always stay at the Polynesian hotel for many reasons , despite the cost , since COVID , it seems the guests visiting feel more entitled , more aggressive . Being a police officer , I deal with violence on a regular basis, I would bring my family there for the fun , safe atmosphere, no worry good time , this year alone , I’ve seen more acts of violence , theft and the most entitled people I have ever seen , maybe this family tradition ends this year.
Ok Patrick, you’ve had a great run. No one feels sorry for you. Millions of people never get to visit. I was a teacher before teaching teachers. We see similar things. We see our colleagues attacked unarmed in their classrooms. See how this has nothing to do with conversation? You just think you have some profound point because of a voluntary job you took, like I did. Vacation elsewhere. Lots of us still love it for it to be so busy. 😉
I love gatekeepers who believe no one else has valid opinions. Only you can decide who’s points are valid I suppose especially since you taught. Bully for you.
Yeah, I can see this coming on other fast moving rides and I really don’t mind it at all. Remember the guy who actually jumped out of the train to get his phone?
The risk of dropping your phone during a ride is not just how disruptive it is to close the ride to find it again. Losing your grip on a phone during a rollercoaster is DANGEROUS to everyone else you are riding with. It is heavy enough that at those speeds, it could fly into the face of the people sitting behind you and do some real damage. The people who have to go find their phone again are lucky they didn’t seriously injure someone.
I understand the new policy and agree with it. However, are the parks going to ban cameras as well? Some are just as heavy, if not heavier, than phones, unless they are something like a GoPro.
I believe this is actually due to the new feature in the iPhone 14 line that attempts to detect emergencies like a car wreck and automatically have help sent. G-Forces and other parameters can cause this to be triggered on roller coasters. It’s just easier for them to say No Cell Phones vs explaining that it has to be off or in Airplane Mode – then they’d need extra staff to explain how to do that! Parks all over the country are having this problem and having to address it.
I would just like to say I took my entire family 11 years ago to Walt Disney World and truly it was the happiest place on earth we just got back in October from a trip to just Walt Disney World and I have to say it was one of the worst trips I’ve ever taken with my grandchildren I will not go back with all the lightning Lanes having to use your phone for everything How can you say you can’t have your phone with you we were at the gift services department as much as we were any place else it seemed not to mention the entitled people that were there and so rude the cost of things are astronomical but understandable in these times if you’re not ready to spend a fortune then don’t go and we took all the shortcuts and you could take believe me there are so many rules how can so many rules be the happiest place on earth Walt Disney World is disappointing not to mention that I contacted through a while I was there had to stay an extra day in order to go to the ER and fly home the next day without my family I believe this was because they refused to hire enough people to wipe down the rides the handles as you’re waiting in line the bars everything I never saw anyone wiping anything down with antiseptic except ourselves It’s not about the people anymore it’s about Walt Disney World making money we used one of the restrooms there that was so disgusting that my daughter had to clean it before we could even use it It was bad Tell me why it Walt Disney World in the prices you pay to go there You go into a bathroom and there is s h * t on the walls and toilet who leaves a bathroom like that? Not to mention I am ill with the terminal illness and this was my bucket list to take my granddaughter to Disney World that did not get to go with us 11 years ago she is only seven It was such a disappointment for us adults.
Good..
This is all to combat YouTube grifters who run a swindle..
The swindle is using Disneyland and your families vacation to backdrop their videos..
Some of these types make over $100K a year with this..
End it..
It makes on a roller coaster attraction, where guests might drop their phone while recording their ride and possibly injure someone! The problem could be avoided if our phones were equipped with STRAPS- which were always featured on cameras.
It was Inevitable !
People these days are so wrapped up in Social Media Reels or vlogs they go beyond common courtesy even flat out rude to others just so they can post . Disney Japan has already banned VLOGERS , YOUTUBERS etc. I’m sure this will make its way at all Disney parks .
I think it’s good thing. About time some places do that. It’s sick and terrible and much more when people break rules. Everyone knows what Disney parks are all about and should have decency to not break rules and ruin it for everyone. Worse yet, when breaking rules, they sue and chances are the violator wins, and causes financial problems for park and guests. Hopefully Disney don’t get sued for discrimination or anything like that either because they enforce this new policy. Everyone needs to learn that hard thing called “COMMON SENSE.” it’s not that hard people, I promise you. OBEY RULES how hard is that. GROW UP people
I can see using your phone in line during the wait. Once on the ride, just put the thing away. Most of the ride vehicles have a small pocket that loose items can be placed in if your clothing lacks pockets. Also, ladies, you can make use of your purse as well.
Like people are saying it is common curiosity but also common sense. If you have you phone out on a jerky ride the likelihood of losing your phone is really high. I knew people that lost their phone on btm because it went into rivers of America or the person that tried to record rockn roller coaster have a phone smashed to pieces on the floor. They are probably as a reminder that yes disney is having you forced on the phone more doesn’t mean you have to have it on the ride too.
There are states where cell phone usage is banned and ticketable but you see people flamboyantly use them up next to their steering wheel all the time. Adding a rule won’t do much.
I think DW made a mistake when they launched Genie+ instead of offering a skip-the-line option like Universal Studios. The cost for the option at Universal doubles the ticket price for each park-goer but you don’t need your phone once inside the park. DW would need to stipulate that the pass can only be used once for each attraction so the holders of the pass don’t monopolize the popular rides. Every person who comes to DW feels “entitled” and I think many of the commenters who mention that are just frustrated that there are too many people all wanting to do the same thing at the same time. Add to that the number of ride closures that DW has and everyone is mad at all the other people in the park all day!
Disney used to be a fun family place to go but for many years that all has changed now they are so political and seems like they’re on the far left side and they have gotten so deeply involved in this transgenderism and it seems keep working too getting the young kids that visit all confused about what they are what gender are they which should never be like that so I say this far as I am concerned Disney should be completely boycotted for good they are not good for the American family at all they need to be put out of business completely.
Where do you see any of that in the parks? Don’t worry, they still have a bunch of extremely insensitive racial stereotypes in the oh so popular “its a small world”… Im sure that would be right up your alley.
These articles contain so much fluff and the content is one or two sentences long. Why can’t you just tell the story without saying Disney world has 4 theme parks blah blah blah??

“Common courtesy” is not so common anymore. For a big part of the last couple of generations it’s been about MEMEME and scre* the rest of you.

They won’t be taking the phones away, thry simply don’t want you pulling them out of your pocket and filming while on the rides.
They are too distracting and too many people are dropping them, then crying to park officials and trying to get them back.
Dave
My phone doesn’t use film. It records images digitally. I’ll be fine.
Teddy Gingerich
First: please learn to use punctuation.
Second: no one will be taking your phone; you just won’t be allowed to have it out.
Dawn
There are small pouches on the rides to store your phone in….. it’s really simple to put them in before the ride launches.
Dan Diego
The reason for the rule is that so many people drop items during the ride—especially phones—that shutting down the ride to retrieve dropped items slows the ride and makes long lines even longer.
