  1. She should have paid extra for a cabin. They are like mobile homes. I have stayed in a camper and in a cabin at Fort Wilderness. They either only had Magic Kingdom or Epcot just opened. Not as much to do. We brought our bikes and explored Fort Wilderness. It was wonderful. Camping isn’t for everyone; it’s a lot of work. Get a cabin next time.

She went there with a bunch of assumptions and zero camping experience.

Then, a slew challenges ensued due to what sounds like zero planning whatsoever.

    Hilarious.

One year we camped at Fort Wilderness. We had a 26 foot motor home. My older parents and I slept in it. My husband, 2 sons and my friend slept in tent they pitched. They were hot, humid, &mosquitoes. In the morning my young son was covered with fire ant bites. Itching. Had to take him to First Aid in Magic Kingdom for medicine! Won’t camp again. Luckily we had zero rain. Save an extra year and get an air conditioned resort room!

As another said, camping isn’t for everyone. For those that love it and want to experience Disney as well, this sounds like a great affordable option. For those that are not the biggest fans of camping or have zero experience with it, this is probably not the way to plan your Disney vacation.

Stayed at Fort Wilderness twice as a kid in a camper with family and loved it. Rented the old airstream trailers they used to have and took my kids there in the cabins for years. Loved being there

Staying at a nearby motel is tons cheaper. A campground is best used with a motor home or RV. What are they thinking? Florida just had hurricanes and tropical storms too. It rains every day. Weather is horribly hot and humid. Everyone staying onsite needs air conditioning that removes humidity and the heat.

Why would an inexperienced person decide to make Fort Wilderness their first camping experience 😵‍💫she should have done this in her backyard. You can’t compare a campground to a resort hotel, totally two different experiences. As a camper we enjoy FW very much!!

Going camping for the first time at Fort Wilderness and then giving it a review is ridiculous! We have camped there in our camper and loved it! But definitely don’t do it if you don’t know what you’re doing…

It sounds like most of her issues were due to her poor planning, and lack of camping expierience.

She should spend more time learning to camp.

Most everyone here already said pretty much what i was thinking. What I will add though is that she and her two friends are the people that us experienced campers want to watch as it is entertaining. Pull up a camp chair and a beer. Offer advice but if they don’t take it sit back and watch the comedy routine.
They definitely did not look at any videos or information on tent camping. Now that I am older, I prefer a camper over a tent, but I grew up camping in tents and do find them quite enjoyable. This lady missed the first rule of tents always multiply the number of people by 2 or divide the tent capacity by 2.

Although it was 1989 and 1994, we camped in our RV at Fort Wilderness and loved it. We were close to the showers and laundry room both times. We also rented one of the electric carts and also a canoe. Enjoyed the pool area. At that time, we did have to use the tram to take us to pick up a bus or walk over for a boat to MK. We’ve stayed at several levels of the resorts but the campground is one of my favorites.

We have camped at Disney’s campgrounds several times…in a tent! But my son was also a Cub Scout at the time, and we had to camp with them, so we weren’t newbies. I had a pop-up tent that had room for 6 (you want to have room for the people and some of your stuff in the tent). We tried to time our camping in cooler times of the year, though since it is Florida, you never know. When it ended up being warmer, we took a fan with us. The last time we went was the first time we really got any rain. One side of a air mattress touched a side of the time, so we had leakage the first time. Immediately called reservations the next day and got moved to a Value Resort for the rest of our stay. Haven’t been camping since! Tent camping is definitely for those younger and more limber! lol

First, having absolutely no camping experience and not having the first clue about how to even set up a tent, didn’t start her off on the right foot to begin with.

Next, unless it has changed, and it could have since we haven’t been there for a few years since Disney started going downhill, the transportation system was always great. Very easy to use. I’m guessing she never took the boat from FW to Magic Kingdom?

I think the camping review would have been a bit better using someone with actual camping experience. It’s ok if they were new to FW, but I think another review should be done with an experienced tenter who can explain the pros and cons and why or why not FW would be a good choice for tenters.

For those new to camping or those who would prefer not to have “that extra work” why not rent a camper? Meacham’s Rv has many camper rentals for every budget and you can rent a golf cart too! Meacham’s does all the work and you just show up with your food, personal items, and ready to have fun!!

Our experience was much different – we brought a pop-up camper that had air conditioning and enough beds for all 5 of us. All we did was sleep in it — too much to do at Disney and at Fort Wilderness. We tried the buses but found the boat launches to be much nicer and more fun.

Yeah it has all been said. You don’t go camping ANYWHERE without doing a little research. I certainly wouldn’t expect a relaxing vacation in a tent if I had no clue how to put up a tent and did absolutely NO PLANNING for the vacation. She is not a good person to review the experience for sure!

This article could have been summed up by like four sentences. Indoorsy millennial hates camping. Didn’t know what they were doing doesn’t understand the equipment. Should have rented an RV to stay at fort wilderness. Hated every minute of it. PS water is wet waterproof your tent. Rookie move.
