I love SSR, but honestly it’s a very poorly run resort. We have a major issue almost every time we stay there, unfortunately if you need a handicap two bedroom it’s one of the better DVC Resorts to get into.
We have had bug infestations, broken furniture, sofa bed collapsed under my 7 & 8 year old because it was so worn out-the only response from SSR Management was the “sorry your vacation hasn’t been magical” shtick. It’s a shame because it’s a beautiful property and the proximity to Disney Springs is great , but the resort seems to lack management. The resort is a huge property with 900+ rooms and needs more oversight.
I’m confused as to how “she has been sleeping on these types of beds at Disney since she was 13 and she is now 20”. The first use of the murphy beds were in the Riviera Resort hotel which opened Dec 2019. They were not installed at SSR intul the refurbishment that started taking guest in new rooms in 2020.
these single murphy beds were included in the Polynesian DVC room renovations and the Beach club refurbishments. Both of these happened quite a while ago.
My issue..it’s a 600 lb bed. It should be able to handle its own counter weight. It also failed to be installed right. The next bigger issue is ..It freaking fell and injured a person ! Doesn’t matter how big bed is or person ..Disney’s crappy furniture fell and hurt someone. All you are gonna do is comp them . Hell no! I’d sue! You could have developed a blood clot and or died. What if little children were injured or caught in this thing ..it’s a faulty dangerous piece of equipment and Disney should be held accountable. No wonder they are a total mess.
My cousin is a criminal attorney and she said you should have asked another attorney to represent you and if it’s been under a year since this happened and you have documentation like pictures videos anything let me admitting that their furniture is faulty installed wrong it doesn’t matter what it says or who says anything about the wait because it Hass to be a warning posted somewhere near the bed if there’s no warning posted near the band that states you must be between these ages he uses bad or you must weigh under a certain amount to lay on this bed then her suing is justified. Especially if she really did get hurt and the fact that they just Compter all these things proves that they were scared that she was going to sue. And even if you love Disney they still should be held accountable for having crappy furniture upfront and warning people that their beds can break and collapse on top of you or while you’re in it whatever the case is here just because of you not being under a certain weight and from what I understand that bed should definitely be able to hold someone 200 pounds or less again even if she wasn’t if there is no posted sign when it’s anywhere near the bed then she’s not the one who’s at fault Disney is. This lawyer who told her she didn’t have much of a case was just afraid to fight Disney do you know huge it wasn’t a very good lawyer and I needed to find a better one like my cousin he said she probably could’ve got her close to $100.000$
If little children were involved it would not have happened. Your logic is flawed. It’s like saying my car weights 1,000 lbs andeasnew ALMOST14 years ago (20-13), so in your world the axle shouldn’t break if I’m driving it and weigh 1000lbs. Yeah right. She had no business on that bed, I’m fact it’s lucky it came down on her and not the next guest that may have been the appropriate age and size. Too many people go straight to sue without seeing what their actions have caused. At least in this case RESPONSIBLE PARENTS are now aware that these Murphy style beds should not be trusted with their kids as you don’t know the age/size of person sleeping there before their kids. It was an eye opener for me, I would have never thought twice about this, but if I take kids anywhere like this with these beds, I’ll save up for the regular beds for them.
Based on exactly what information!?!! You people sound like the “Know it All’s” That accused the woman, with the hot coffee dumped in her lap, of being negligent!?!! Wrong once again!!! Get the Facts first people!?!!
Disney World resort has had trundle beds for many years. We used to stay at Port Orleans riverside as it was the only resort that could hold a family larger than four in the moderate range and we’ve had kiddos sleep on them, I want to say by 2007.
I didn’t one night on one of these at Riverside. Honestly it was so uncomfortable I wouldn’t even put my kid on it. We went to the store and got an air mattress.
The beds should probably have a posted weight limit and I don’t think that they do. So, no matter your age, when you exceed the posted limit for what the bed is designed to accommodate, you sleep in it at your own risk.
For those quoting weight limits, we asked at the front desk if there is a weight limit on these beds and they assured us there was not. We tested this with about 400 lbs of weight (don’t ask) overnight with no ill effects.
You guys know they have cameras right? For a while at Universal, during the pandemic so they would only put one group per cart) on the Harry Potter train they would display a picture of the inside of the cart and they would let you know you were being watched at all times. I saw where the camera angle was so I didn’t believe it as I couldn’t see a lens or anything. Well I stood up and blocked the place I thought it was and an employee came right down and opened my door and told me to sit down. And that was a camera you can’t see while those skylines have actual camera boxes you can see from inside so you know they are there.
It must have been an installation issue that caused the failure. The mother-in-law slept on one for 6 nights and to provide some perspective, we buy her two seats on the Southwest flight to Orlando and back and we have to push to get the scooter up the little hill after the entrance to Animal Kingdom.
I am sorry but, something feels off about her story. After everything she said that she was pretty injured. But, the lawyer she contacted told her that she didn’t have enough proof for a lawsuit? You mean to tell me that someone didn’t whip out their cellphone and start snapping pictures of her injuries and the broken bed? That’s not enough proof? I just do not believe her story.
I said that with her injuries that they should have been snapping pictures. She said that she spoke to a lawyer who told her she didn’t have enough proof. Then go find another lawyer! If he says the same thing. Go to another lawyer! If she was as hurt as she said. Any lawyer would have taken that case. There wouldn’t even have to go to court. I do not care how much she weighed! If she was really hurt, any lawyer would have taken that case. I am sorry this does not add up.
Had a similar incident with the crappy furniture at the Grand Floridian Studio rental this summer. Although the bed did not come away from the wall, the bedframe broke while trying to close it up. Part of the frame gave way and the back of the sofa collapsed under the bed. Maintenance came and couldn’t figure it out. They called for a supervisor who discovered the wrong size screws were used during installation. He didn’t seem at all surprised. I’m glad none of our party was hurt. At nearly $500 per night, they can do better.
Sounds like a possible setup as they immediately went to an attorney. And what qualifies her dad to state whether or not it was installed . Did they call EMS? Attorney would not take it? More to this…..
I’m going to say something up with the Lady story . If you get that hurt why is she smiling like she is . There no way if I got that hurt I be smiling .
Lol, reminds me of Shallow Hal with Jack Black when the chair breaks as he thinks Gwyneth Paltrow is skinny but she really weighs 600+! He says can’t you make them better, referring to the chairs talking to the restaurant staff. The manager says they’re steel, lol and then Black says well weld them better in the corners! That’s exactly what happened here!
She’s a biggins! The account is now deleted so something was off here. Come on those beds are for kids. The entitlement of people today is off the chain…
Yeah of course she already consulted a lawyer. It’s meant for little kids, you a- hole. Everybody wants a free pay day for their own actions don’t they?
Geez. I went to the bathroom at EPCOT last weekend. Should I be try to be cool and post it on Tik Tok for the world to know and so that I can further be spied on by the spyware in TikTok???
Well, you know beds do have a weight limit and you look pretty damn big. Your arm is as big as a fully grown man’s leg. As a woman you shouldn’t weigh more than 130 lb
I call bologna on this.
First of all, I believe her weight was a huge factor in this and the story is one sided. Disney is not responsible for her “accident”
For those of you saying the bed should have held her, it is not a double or queen size bed, it is one of the single/small twin size murphy beds I have looked into it and it does say that they are meant for early teens or younger.
Well, you know beds do have a weight limit and you look pretty damn big. Your arm is as big as a fully grown man’s leg. As a woman you shouldn’t weigh more than 130 lb
Seriously she needs to reimburse Disney for a new bed. Getting around in a scooter instead of walking thats your first mistake! Seriously they have to do away with scooters , wheelchairs, strollers, trams, monorails, boats ..make people walk!
Walts biggest flaw ….Disney Transportation. He has created obesity because people would rather use his different forms of transportation than walkways.
Do you know how much money Disney would save if they took away all forms of Transportation and only had bridges and walkways? Im sure people would be healthier and prices would go down.
My 7 year old daughter caught her foot on the side rail and fell out of bed gashing her face between her eyes. I called 911 and a Disney EMT didn’t think it was that urgent. With no car and a kid bleeding profusely, we had to beg for a ride to the hospital. It took 7 stitches and 4 hours to stop the bleeding. Disney was NO HELP AT ALL. After many many visits, never going back.
What did you think would happen when you put something ginormous on a piece of furniture?? 600lb bed or not, everything gives even you’re grotesquely overweight.

Because she exceeded the weight limits and what ages it’s designed for.
Tyler
Actually, Murphy beds were in the original Fort Wilderness homes. Slept on one in 1994.
Terrance
Port Orleans had them for a while before that.
Lthia
I had a room with a Murphy bed at the Polynesian in 2016. They had them before the Riveria was even built.

We do a semi vertical bop on the Skyliner. The cable has yet to break.

That is not a small woman…… Those are made for kids and small stature people. Like my tiny 5ft 2 inch, 110lb 20 yr old.
