As a Disney travel agent who communicates regularly with many other Disney TAs, I guarantee you that the majority of us ARE NOT HOARDING DINING RESERVATIONS. We are just as frustrated with the lack of availability as everyone else. We have the same access as the general public and many times cannot find those coveted reservations for our very disappointed clients. Please don’t throw us TAs under the bus. Disney CMs do that enough, blaming us when clients suffer from the effects of Disney’s awful, glitchy IT. We do our jobs for much less commission than we could make with other travel operators, doing much more work for Disney clients than we have to for non-Disney ones.

I didn’t like that they blamed TAs as hoarding. We use a TA and it’s not ya’ll. It’s the people booking the reservations themselves. They book 3 places at once because they don’t know if they want it or not and then release them like the day of so no one can get them. It’s not the TAs

Never heard of buying reservations. People are not hoarding them, but rather will book a reservation as a backup because they can’t get a reservation at a restaurant that they want. My suggestion is that if you really want a reservation and are willing to eat at off times, check the app the day you are at a park. You might have to check a few times, but those reservations do pop up the day of. There are some restaurants that never pop up, but at least you will know that with playing with the app before the trip. You can always go to a restaurant the day of and ask if they have availability. Don’t expect this to happen with large parties.

Have you ever been on the fb Disney dining groups?? I can assure you people ARE hoarding reservations that they have no intention on using just to barter with them or even sell them to desperate people.

Exactly! People do hoard them. No other reason that to 1) sell (which i didn’t know you could since how do you “transfer” them? You can’t just drop it and it automatically shows up. It goes back into a “pot” where anyone can get it. 2) They don’t know what they want and instead of deciding like normal people, hoard them and then drop them the day before or of.
We always decide before our 60 day mark what we want and if we need to change then we go in and see if anything is available. If not, we keep checking and if still nothing, oh well. But people are selfish and want what they want.

Yes there is some travel agency that hoard along w/people. Disney FINALLY cracked down on the people hoarding on the “wilderness campground”. Fingers crossed they will get them too. Let’s hope this will get tightened up.

Disney travel agents booking for multiple clients traveling at the same time is NOT hoarding, unless they are booking many reservations for the same client for the exact same date/times. One TA booking for multiple families is much different than ONE family booking tons of reservations they have no intention of using and/or trading/selling. The real issue are the Facebook dining groups where people hoard for fun and to trade for reservations they actually want. Until Disney shuts that down this will continue to be a problem

Food groups are not for that. They are for talking about the food. If you know of a group that uses it to sell/trade then you need to report them to Disney. I belong to a couple and they don’t sell. They talk about the food and other things.

I do not know anything about hoarding reservations. But the thing that will be causing huge issues, is this new 24 hr cancellation rule. Before, at least if you waited until the last moment you were charged a fee, so that prevented folks from waiting until the day before. Now, all of us that book reservations for an upcoming trip, will find nothing at all. This is definitely going to go very badly. I see the benefit for walk ups, as if you did not make a reservation ahead of time, you could not find a place to eat. But now, with mobile ordering it is a lot easier. So I would like to know who thought 24hrs was a good idea. Its horrible.

The new cancellation policy is 2 HOURS not 24 hrs. This has made it even WORSE.

  6. We(my husband, twin 9yo boys and myself) were at WDW May 20-28 of this year. We stayed at the Cabin at Fort Wilderness. We started trying to get reservations for Ohana and a Fab 5 character meal as soon as our window opened. About 2 weeks before our trip we were finally able to get character meal reservations at Tusker House in AK, but were still unable to get Ohana reservations before our trip. Our first day in a park (5/21)we were at MK. About 9am I was setting up our next Lighting Lane when I happened to check and see if Ohana had any reservations open. THEY DID! I had checked earlier that day and no go. The only they had was for 3PM, I took them! We had a late morning snack and Ohana was a late lunch/ early dinner. I made a comment to the cast member and she said a whole block of reservations were canceled and that’s why I was able to get the ones I did. It’s not fair when people/third parties hoard reservations ! Especially when you are locked in to certain parks on certain dates so when you can go is limited.

We were at WDW earlier this month. The vacation was practically decided and planned only weeks before. Our accommodations for the week were spread across three different resorts. Fortunately, a CM at the first resort managed to merge them all into one. It took her a day, but she did it. As far as dining reservations are concerned, we booked something for each day across various resorts and park locations. We wanted this to be our dining WDW trip, so we had specific restaurants in mind. We actually managed to get all our reservations with very little effort. Some locations included Steak71, Brown Derby and Grand Floridian Cafe
