I found a post of That Girl on YouTube from 6 years ago. The song is disturbingly similar. Not only is melody of the chorus the same, some of the lyrics are similar and a few are identical. Example: Disney: “some things never change…”; That Girl: “some people never change…”.
Aside from “Somethings never change” vs. “Some people never change” the lyrics are drastically different. The melody while similar at points, is not identical. It’s absurd to think Disney stole this. A special thanks is the best credit deserved, if that.
Good luck to this guy. I heard it and it didn’t remind me of Disney’s at all. Yawn. Next there’ll be people suing Disney because “things” was used, or other lame words. This guy is just looking for a handout, like the Nirvana baby.
I listened to both songs. There are a few similarities in words and music, at times, but there are hundreds of songs by different artists that sound similar as well.
Personally, I don’t think the few similarities are enough to make the leap to a copyright infringement and the suit will not go far.
George Harrison lost a lawsuit for “My sweet lord” because he stated he MIGHT have drawn inspiration from “He’s so fine.” The songs are barely similar and the precedent is set.

Ok so why dont disney just give the guy credit and pay him royalties. They dont think this song is popular among the children.

Disney doesn’t need to change anything. Disney could simply give writing credit to him and pay him royalties and back royalties.

Agreed. I heard this song and it didn’t sound anything like Disney’s.

Listen to the instrumental, not the words. They are quite similar.

I agree. Plus it’s not uncommon for people to take inspiration from others work as long as they don’t copy the work

Daniel Grig is a greedy crook and has no business filing a copyright claim on the song let alone a lawsuit

A similar lawsuit was filed against Disney for let it go. I can’t remember the exact details but apparently that guy lost and so will this guy.
Chris
I hope he loses the lawsuit
