I was actually at the deck party. First off they didn’t even evacuate all of Deck 9 or 10 (Palo and Senses for example both remained open as normal), only the areas closest to the speaker and that they needed to for purposes of accessing the appropriate area to put out the fire. Those of us passing the ice cream station were even encouraged to grab an ice cream along the way since there was no line and it helped keep people calm.

In fact Disney did a great job at keeping people calm and encouraging those who could use the stairs to do so, so that those who couldn’t could use the elevators.

By the time I was on the elevator (as someone who couldn’t do the stairs) and down stairs by where our dinner was going to be (about 10 minutes at most after the fire started), they had the fire out and announced they would try to do the fire works in a couple of days, which they did.

There were no injuries, and everyone remained calm.

In fact when it first started, the performers at the deck party didn’t even notice and just kept going until they shouted “Oh, no Goofy” since he was the one dancing at the moment they decided they needed to leave and that was clearly a cue to the characters and all to do so.

Overall, this really wasn’t a big deal, other than figuring out how a speaker catches on fire.

The first line of the article mistakenly refers to the Disney Wish instead of the Wonder.
