Coltrane started out in British comedy, and his late-80’s appearance in “Black Adder’s Christmas Carol” plays so much like a screen test for Hagrid, that when I used to share the first movie’s casting news with other book fans:
“And they’ve got Robbie Coltrane playing Hagrid!”
“Who?”
“‘Spirit of Christmas, how d’ye do?'”
“…YES!! He’s be perfect!” 😉
I realize that we all leave this planet, and I am grateful that we had these cinematic jewels for a long time, but the world just feels a little sadder without Angela Lansbury and Robbie Coltrane. 😢
