Totally agree! We were very disappointed last week, evacuated off of Big Thunder, in line at Incredicoaster, Toy Story and Spiderman when they were closed down. Won’t be going back fir awhile, after visiting once or twice a year since 2010…with the exception of 2020 when park was closed. Genie plus is also a joke.
In the wake of all the maintenance failures, Disney has decided to raise it’s rates and continues to gauge the consumer. I will not be taking my family of 5 to Disney parks anymore. It’s NO longer the happiest place on earth.
The main reason is because of what is going on there the long time Castmembers are fed up and are retiring early even though they were happy working there. The cause is Chapek & most all top leadership doing what he says & what the Woke movement is doing so it is changing the Disney Co. to something Walt would never approve of. So without those long time Castmembers there is nobody to guide the new Castmembers to do their job right. So the only way to get things back on track is to get rid of the problem people & get people who Walt would have approved of.
Is it because Walt was an anti-Semite? That woke is considered a bad thing. You know the grueling job is hard. I know I grew up in Orlando and have known many Disney employees. The job sucks.
I also agree with the writer of this article.
Our family has been true Disnry World dorks for 30+ years. We started going as kids then we took our children, then we took our grand children and lastly, our great grand children.
We’ve never saw so many mechanical malfunctions. Last time there were 6 rides down. None were closed for regular maintenance.
So angry at the disney parks that last trip down to Florida, we skipped Disney altogether. Cost to darn much and to many ride breakdowns.
We opted for Universal Studios Orlando.
We had a great time with our family.
I am 74 years old and still enjoy the thrills.

It’s a shame that so many attractions have been going down due to proper maintenance. The Cast Members can only do so much. They have been using super glue and duct tape to fix certain problems. The sad part is that they are charging extra for some attractions.
I totally agree. My family and I were visiting last week, multiple rides shut down due to technical difficulties, Indiana Jones ride felt lifeless with half of the animatronic not working. Plus, for whatever reason the sewage smell throughout the park was absolutely horrible that day. The park was crowded, lines were long, so I don’t believe the reservation system is working. Somehow the magic is gone and I question if I will return anytime soon.
Disneyland cast departments have been taken over in recent years by certain demographics, there is absolutely no doubt about that. When you let folks close off hiring and only hire individuals of their choosing, this is what you get. Disney needs to get back to hiring actual competent qualified professionals instead of hiring based off skin color and sexual orientation… truth hurts don’t it.
Disneyland always held a special place in my ❤️ a place no matter what age u could just feel younger than u were or lived from the stories u grew up with coming to life, the character s were interactive in kind ways, the parades, use to be exciting and fun now everything is run down no joy in faces people seem rude even ,very sad Walt Disney wanted Happiness for all 🤔
I look at it like this. Machines break down sometimes. Some aspects of a ride are broken. Big deal. After being closed for almost 2 years what does one expect? I just enjoy my time at the parks. It’s my escape from the real world for a day or evening depending on what time I get there
FACTS.
Just like they chose Halle Bailey because “she was the best singer”. Lmao she butchered a beautiful modest song and that’s just the trailer. Bless any parent who sits through over an hour of that film for their kids.
We took our Grandkids in June to Disneyland and California Adventure. We were there for 3 days and never able to ride Cars or Indiana Jones because they were broke down. All the other rides seemed to experience breakdowns or issues. The Park was very dirty and the SEWAGE smell was everywhere. In all the years we used to go to Disneyland it was always clean. The ticket cost was outrageous and Genie+ is ridiculous.
I was there in January, and there were minimal problems outside IJ as far as lifeless animatronics. Rides shut down frequently, and on our last day everything kept breaking, however. They need to consider shutting the park down for a few weeks and just repair stuff.
I’m literally in DL right now, and down times are very limited. IJ is messed up and does need a refurb. As for midway mania and Mr potato head being broken… he’s completely covered up and has been for a while. Haven’t had a breakdown issue with a ride all week.
YES! Been going to Disneyland for 2 decades. Last trip was Sept. 22 and we had to be escorted off of multiple rides due to malfunctions. We were escorted off Pirates not once but twice during our 3 day stay. The third day Pirates was closed altogether. This ride was just reopened after a lengthy refurbishment! Spider man glitched and froze in every room the entire time were on it to the point where we gave up trying to play. They wouldn’t let us reride either. It has gotten really awful as of late.
When I worked in customer service many years ago for a major corporation management made it clear that millions of dollars in advertising is wasted when we have one dissatisfied customer. Perhaps Disney should consider adding this fact to the Disney traditions program for upper management. The money saved in not making necessary repairs and upkeep is multiplied in the loss of revenue. The Disney name was known for cleanliness and perfection. Since that is lost, so will the guests saving for years to make a magical trip. Looks like Universal is ready to fill the void!!!!!!!
I work maint at disneyland. Since covid we lost a lot of people. A handful of older cast members retired. A handful left because the vaccine requirements. It seems like management is having a hard time hiring, everyone is short handed and have been for a long time. It takes 5 years working at disneyland to make around 40 an hour. At universal it takes a year and a half to make around 50 an hour. We’ve lost a handful of people to universal.
Totally agree my son and I waited for over 2 hours in line for cars. They tell us everyone has to leave and gave us a lighting lane pass to come back. We go back at 10pm and it was still close. My son is 6 years old and was so upset. We were their for the oogie boogie event and tickets were expensive for rides not to even work. I love Disney but it’s just not what it used to be and it’s very sad.
I totally agree with you. My daughter and I were at the oogie boogie on 10/6. Radiator Springs was closed and the Spider-Man ride broke down while we were on it. To us it wasn’t worth the money as we couldn’t do most of the things we had planned to do. Plus we were told it would be limited tickets sold but it seemed like a normal day at the park…. Very crowded.
This is what happens when woke bean counters run the operations and not imagineers. It’s sad to watch as Chapek and his P.C. Minions ruin a once amazing magical experience.
It is bad. They only rides that didn’t break down (multiple times) while I was there last week were the carousels. And a few were closed more than they were open. As a frequenter of Disney world, I wondered if this was common or abnormal for Disneyland. It was really bad.
The almost year-round 8-12 midnight Park hours probably exacerbate the problem. In years past there were many weeks of 6pm, 8pm or 10pm closing, allowing for maintenance time. Let’s just hope safety isn’t eventually compromised.
You can thank the park reservation system for this. In the past, 10a – 6p was a normal “off peak” day at Disneyland, and the park was a ghost town. Now, Disney manages the reservation system to block weekend days and force crowds onto the previously off-peak weekdays. It’s now a July Saturday every day of the year.
This also happened to us. Took My kids for the first time ever in April of this year. It was definitely not the happiest place on earth. A lot of the rides were down, then when they opened it was way too long of a ride. We showed up to the cars ride using the lightening pass. It showed 60 min wait. We literally waited in line for 2.5 hours! Total waste of our “magical day”. It was so disappointing and we will not be going back any time soon.

No more Disneyland for me. The entire place is dirty and poorly maintained. For the exorbitant amount they charge just to walk in the front gates, you would think the place would at least be clean. Walt would most definitely be rolling over in his grave if he knew what was going on around there.
Broken down rides, total wokeness, ever-increasing prices, and a complete lack of Disney magic, have conspired to make me lose every bit of Disney entusiasm I ever had. I don’t think I’ll ever want to return.
The entire experience was infuriating, but mostly it was just incredibly sad.
My family bought into the DVC in the late 90s. We always went down twice a year every year. We haven’t been down since 2019. We had scheduled a trip last Sept but my mom passed in July so my dad canceled the trip. I recently found out I was pregnant and asked my dad about using the condo for 3 days in the middle of the week. We always stayed at Key West but I didn’t care where I stayed. He called and was told that they only had rooms available at the Boardwalk but it would be $95 a night. My dad’s been paying yearly dues for over 25+. So n he asked to speak with a supervisor. He was told they would have to give him a call Friday (3 days later). He never received the call and tri3d again and given the same response with no call again. It’s sad bc Disney was like a second home. My dad’s going to sell the dvc and I don’t blame him. It’s a shame my future son will never get to experience the same family vacations.
Needless to say I booked my vacation at Universal.
Really sad my sister are dvc members I hope she is not disappointed as she is taking her 2 yr old grandsons next week. Not good idea but she wants to take them. I hate Disney has gone down hill so bad and then the cost to stand in lines. I don’t think I’ll be back for awhile or go to universal instead
Just another Chapek problem. He’d rather worry about getting Disney involved in game betting with ESPN than care for the sacredness of Walt Disney’s dream. If Chapek would just resign and the board give the CEO position to someone who cares about Disney parks and not just money, things would be better. There are enough of us out there that REALLY care for the joy of being in and seeing a perfect Disney park. SOMEONE is better than Bobby Chapek as CEO. Save the parks Chapek and just QUIT!
I feel for those people who have children. It must be very hard looking down to their sad eyes. I have never been to Disneyland. I do remember when test track was closed( no explanation). We checked on it everyday, same thing. When we returned 4 months later, the same thing again. To be truthful it was a friend who wanted to ride it. I had no desire to ride that thing. We returned in September of the the same year. It was working! I didn’t want to go on that thing. Low and behold, I dislike it a lot. He was kept talking about it. He wouldn’t shut up about it. When I go with the girls now, I don’t know if it’s the freedom or that I adore EPCOT!!!! I am positive that it is the World Showcase. I had gone alone in 2008. It wasn’t the same without someone to share the Magic with. I cannot help myself to see a little one standing next to me with their eyes light up! I see the help it when I see a Dad with his child on his shoulder!
We went last week and Disneyland was ok for the most part, but California adventures barely had half of the rides working. Me and my son got stuck on incredicoaster for 40 min right at the end. Luckily we got to ride it because it closed the rest of our trip. Spiderman broke down while we were in line, as did toy story, monsters Inc, and goofy’s coaster. Little mermaid paused for a couple minutes every time we rode it, and grizzly River run was down too, but I never got in line for that one anyway. I had heard October was an awesome time to visit, but to me it seemed they did less (no parades, unless you pay a ton of extra money for oogie boogie bash) and charged more. I will not be going back for at least a decade, maybe even longer if they don’t figure their crap out. They’re not too big to fail, but it seems they’ve forgotten that!
We too, have been going to Disney for decades, first started with our children, now grandchildren. Was time to take our youngest, went last week and was appalled. Need reservations now, so I honestly thinking…. “Great! They are limiting how many they let in, and we won’t have the long, long lines for the rides; especially since we will be there on a weekday”. In all the years we have been going there (35 yrs plus), we have never seen such crowds! And, the first day we were only able to go on TWO rides…yes TWO rides because of the lines. The second day ( we had already bought the park hopper ticket for two days or we would have gone home) we got THREE rides. Unless you buy the fast pass ticket, you are absolutely nothing there. I actually counted the fast track people….. they would close off the general customer, we were actually in line to go next, and THEY WAITED for fast track pass people to get in line… sometimes as many as 54 people went ahead of us! NEVER EVER AGAIN WILL WE GO, but I am sure Disney doesn’t care about losing are 8 to 10 ticket loss every year…. so sad.
Started going in 1974 as a little kid and continued through high school grad nights, going by myself as a young adult, and taking my own kids. Now my kids have kids! They haven’t been yet because of everything that’s being talked about. Walt would be pissed.
Thank you for posting this saves me a trip from New Orleans to go to California and I can easily go to Disney world in Florida for much better experience
I am a huge Disney Geek. I loved going to the parks as a child and as an adult. Now Disney parks have so many restrictions, and All of the rules have changed. I have been reading all the articles on here, and it has turned my love for Disney Parks, into parks that will never be like they were when I used to go. I will give one example, The guy who was trying to propose to his girlfriend, and the Disney employee steps right in the middle of it and grabs the box and ruined a moment that is supposed to be Romantic, and Wonderful. What made me mad was the Disney employee looked like they knew exactly what they were doing and joyed it. If that had happened to me, I would have gone to the big wiggs and demanded that the employee would be fired on the spot. Oh, another example is that someone had brought a balloon to the park that was supposed to be for a special moment, and then was dismissed from the park because of the balloon, which is so pretty. Oh everyone who has been to sit on rides for hours because the ride broke down and eventually had to be helped by employees to be removed from the ride by hand. Oh, man does not get me started on rules for what a person can wear. Are you kidding me? I am not afraid to say it but Bob Chapeck needs to be removed as CEO immediately! He has ruined Disney for everyone! If Walt knew what was going on at the parks today he would be very disappointed to see how his dream was being destroyed. If you go to the YouTube video of the first day that Disneyland opened and Walt said that he wanted everyone to come to the parks because it is the happiest place on earth. Man, I bet a lot of people would agree with me that Walt would be turning in his grave right now. I will no longer be coming to the parks anymore. It makes me sad that I will not be coming to the parks. Please if anybody plans on coming to the parks for vacation. Save your self a lot of money and and go to Sea World.
Disney is coming up on 100 years. How many companies last 100 years? Not many. Disney’s board and ceo seem hell bent to show why companies don’t go beyond 100. Greed and mismanagement. Disney has both working against it.
As a CA resident getting the discount tickets are great and I have been 3 times in the past year and a half, but I do notice the maintaining is down which I think could be said for a lot of the parks. However, for how expensive a trip can be it doesn’t seem like it should be an issue.
Perhaps rides are shutting down more because people are not following the Rules on the ride. Never been to Disney Land but been to Disney World many times. I have watched people ignore the rules and even ignore the cast members. Watched people bring food on when told not too. Watched people climb under the ropes to break in line. We were riding the Jungle cruise. A kid
Continued to put his hand in the water and lean over the body. The cast member was polite and asked him He continued to do it with the parent right there. The cast member threatened to shut down the ride. I was seated to watch Festival of the Lion King. Fast pass. Some woman a few minutes later came up to me and demanded that I move over and let her sit there. This was where the fast pass sat. She did not have a fast pass. I threatened to call a cast member. She continued to walk around the front of the rows trying to get people to move. Rude. I have seen a huge difference in the manners of people since 1978. Some people refuse to follow park rules
I have not been to Disneyland since the pandemic and have no plans to return. Paycheck has ruined the parks. What is magical about having to pay for the genie and plan your trip to the park with military precession or risk not getting to ride anything. Then when you add in the lack of maintenance it is all just to much. People need to start speaking with their wallet and stop going until they put the magic back into Disney.
I totally agree. We were there halloween week 2021 and everything was breaking down repeatedly. Also when the rides would break down the cast members were not frie day like normal. We love Disney but we won’t go back until things chge and the magic s back!
So, I see that there are some of Chapeks minions are commenting on here. The lack of maintenance is all Chapeks. This all started when he took over as president of park operations and continues to this day. It gets worse everyday because the company eliminated the overnight maintenance and PM work, further the refurbishment process is not as involved as it use to be. I also noticed that the hotel maintenance is lacking. Some of them remind me of the maintenance performed at those really low budget hotels outside of Disney.
I hate to say this as a pass holder since passes first came out, but I hope that at some point people will stop purchasing passes altogether. Our spending habits are our choice. Chapek clearly does not care about what we care about and he’s going to continue to ruin the experience. I’ll miss the nostalgia and my family is now 5 generations in with Disney, many having worked there as well, but what else can we do?
My wife was served Raw Chicken 2 times at prime time and in the end just removed her meal from the bill. We were not rude or anything just disappointed and didn’t bother asking for something more
Seven years ago when I went to Disneyland there were maybe 2 breakdowns over 5 days. The first week of October over 2 days we witnessed over maybe 40 breakdowns, Rise of the Resistance broke down twice maybe three times Tuesday and Wednesday. After waiting an hour in each line and no closer to the entrance the ride went down, in the past cast members would provide passes for you to skip the line next time, they no longer do this. Guardians of the Galaxy broke down three to four times both days as well, we were in line for forty minutes when this happened on Tuesday. Indiana Jones broke down about two to three times on both days, after waiting an hour on Monday we were literally in our car ready to be the next ones launched into the ride at midnight after it broke down, and had to leave to park. Thankfully during our Radiator Springs wait it only broke down after ten minutes, but that ride broke down once or twice on Tuesday, and once or twice on Wednesday. The Incredible Coaster, Grizzly River Run, and Toy Story Mania, and Snow White Adventure broke down on both days. With the fast pass, and lightening lane passes, and being at the park from 8am to 12am, walking a total of 17 miles each day we still weren’t able to do all the rides. The experience at the parks has completely changed, along with the rising costs. The app or lines will claim a ride is an hour long wait, but for Haunted Mansion, we sadly waited close to 3 hours, not having wanted to bail after the first hour spent. We spoke to some friends who said the same thing happened to them for Rise of the Resistance and Guardians of the Galaxy, despite the app and line queues saying 1 hour some waits were close to 2-3 hours.
Disneyland is no longer selling passes. You had to have been a key holder last year in order to renew this year. Paycheck wants people to pay full price to get into the parks. I work around DL and DCA. A ton of people are still going and they’re cramming them in too.
I’d say in the last few years, it is dirty! I remember you could accidentally drop something and it would be gone by the time you bend over to pick it up. Now you find things laying around days+ later. Very disheartening.
I went right before covid shut it down. And got a fast pass when splash mountain broke down. Then I picked Indiana Jones and that ride broke down. They did not want to give me another fast pass at the court house at disneyland. I pushed it and said as a one time courtesy can have another fast pass. Planning to go next month. I am a local but didn’t get the annual pass because of the reservations. But now that I can’t get one not sure if I made the right choice. Seems the more limiting the more people go to Disneyland I have avoided it since 2020 and finally going to go back but has been crowed.

Not to mention with the guest demand, and parks staying open later, there isn’t time to do the proper maintenance that needs to be done.
Stan
That’s crazy. 40 or 50$/hr !?!? That’s 160,000 to 200,000 a year for a dual income family. Compared to the median income in FL of $36k/year!
No wonder why prices are so high with no maintenance getting done.

The entire experience was infuriating, but mostly it was just incredibly sad.
You’ve broken my heart Disneyland.

Brad
They had a year or better to fix this while being shut down. Complete failure
Honey

Should rename Magic Kingdom to Greed Kingdom.

Modern day American incompetence!!! It’s everywhere.

Go woke, go broke. Disney abandoned America, it’s time to let them fail.

Jamie
I totally agree. We were there halloween week 2021 and everything was breaking down repeatedly. Also when the rides would break down the cast members were not frie day like normal. We love Disney but we won’t go back until things chge and the magic s back!
Tim
So, I see that there are some of Chapeks minions are commenting on here. The lack of maintenance is all Chapeks. This all started when he took over as president of park operations and continues to this day. It gets worse everyday because the company eliminated the overnight maintenance and PM work, further the refurbishment process is not as involved as it use to be. I also noticed that the hotel maintenance is lacking. Some of them remind me of the maintenance performed at those really low budget hotels outside of Disney.
Teresa
I hate to say this as a pass holder since passes first came out, but I hope that at some point people will stop purchasing passes altogether. Our spending habits are our choice. Chapek clearly does not care about what we care about and he’s going to continue to ruin the experience. I’ll miss the nostalgia and my family is now 5 generations in with Disney, many having worked there as well, but what else can we do?
Scott

Janelle
I was there a couple of weeks ago and just about every ride broke at some time in the day. Kinda ruined my friend’s birthday trip.

50 years ago Web Slingers and Rise of the Resistance had NO ISSUES. Do better
