Yeah, this isn’t happening. They were too cheap to pay for a train and Disney is still under the delusion they are going to get their government powers back.
Disney put $46 million into the Sunrail for commuters. The city and county decided it should go the airport before going to Disney or Universal. So, Disney pulled their money out. The Sunrail has not been completed yet because they lost their funding. Then Bright line came along. Disney wanted it to go from the airport to Disney Springs. Again, city and county officials shot that down demanding that the Convention Center was more important. I don’t know why you think they won’t pay. They will pay but only if it suits their guests and cast members. Lived in Orlando for 20+ years and worked at Disney for 5 of those. Maybe it isn’t always Disney’s fault. Maybe the elected officials just don’t care about the commute for their voters.
Yes it is a breach of contract. Disney broke the contract when they decided to get political. The CEO said that they would fight to overturn a law that is favored by the majority of Florida residents.
Without an actual vote you can that a majority wanted a clearly election driven event. I know for a fact that a majority of people detest that arbitrary law dreamed up by DeSantis. Don’t believe me put up a referendum and count the votes!
Being a former Mouse Exec, think you don’t understand how many LGBQT employees are there- to the point where Disney once a year closes the the park early for those employees and has for last 20 + Years to celebrate. Large Support groups and celebration of it as an employer as far back as 25 years. You can’t say you are a disney fan and not understand they have been pro equality for a long long time. Nothing new here …
Yeah. No. That’s not what happened… The plan was for it to always go to the airport. Disney pulled the plug because Sun Rail changed the route slightly and wanted to move the station that was at Disney Springs by less than a quarter mile. At least that was what Disney said on paper… The reality of it is that this would have allowed a stop at Universal directly from Disney World and this would have gone against Disney entire business model of Disney World. If you haven’t noticed, Disney World is pretty much a closed bubble. They make it hard for you to spend your vacation anywhere but Disney once you are on Disney property, but very easy to get to anywhere on Disney property. They don’t want people to leave Disney World to spend their money elsewhere. They want them to get on a bus and go directly to Disney without a car to only spend money at Disney. They also make it very practical to not have a car by having such good transit to everywhere on property. On paper, it’s a wise business decision by Disney, but not what I wished for. One day the money grubbing will eventually catch-up to them and people will get fed up with paying $7.25 for a soft pretzel. They are squeezing the middle class out of the parks and will eventually realize they can’t sustain the parks without them.
Agree. Disney’s Transportation system is actually quite amazing and the buses are a great asset. Find another that is as flexible and can move thousands of people the way they do. Of course, we would all rather take the boat, monorail or Skyliner, but they serve unique purposes.
Disney wants to put an airport there…fine. They pay every penny and I am good with that . Not a penny of the public’s or tax money…let them have at it. I will not pay for Chapek to have his own personal airport. Every penny must come from Disney!
Interesting thing about the STOL airport was that planes taking off would play ‘When you wish upon a star ‘ as the tires ran over grooves on the runway.
They need to get a new CEO who cares about what Walt Disney did…family. I hope they are finding out that all the “woke” community does is destroy all good things. JMO
I’m still trying to figure out who would be responsible for the services to Disney. And what this would mean for Disney overall? if they build the airport, can they maintain it without oversight? Which countys building codes do they follow for future work if the parks cross into multiple counties? Who provides road work, sewage, electricity? so many unanswered questions
This is something the surrounding counties have been asking the state since they voted to dissolve Reedy Creek. The counties are worried that they’ll be stuck with millions of dollars worth of emergency services bills
Surrounding counties could care less. They’re not worried about who’s going to be stuck with new bills, it’s those people up in Tallahassee who voted to support the dissolution of Reedy Creek. Now it’s their time to pay the piper and the Taxman. And explain to Orange County taxpayers why their taxes went up 25%.
And of course don’t forget the Disney + pass that will be required so regular scum will get bumped from the line – For those that have paid the extra special high fees to jump in front.
Using the Orlando airport is no problem especially since I will never be visiting Disney again – the greeediest place on earth
Not greedy, smart. No one is torturing customers to buy Disney. They’re the affluent people who want to have the right to enjoy themselves and spend their money as they want.
Well that may be true but each country has a country code that goes before the airport code. For the USA the code is K , so Orlando is actually KMCO. If there is no current WED in the USA, the code is available for use.
I am not sure if this is supposed to be satire or not, but it certainly is not a factual article. Every paragraph has factual errors, so I guess it is just fantasy. But the author may want to take a look at the current RCID map not a 50 year old fantasy of a man on his deathbed.
I assume Disney is looking at electric flying taxis for this purpose, but those are not economically feasible and in the summertime the weather disruptions would cause a backup fo to the inability of these to fly in rough weather. Should have paid for the rail depot or kept the contract for buses. There are many reasons to not fly to Disney these days because of the transportation from MCO to disney.
Time for actual facts. There was never an airport in planning for WDW. The reason for the property location was because MCO or OIA was already planned to be built so there was no need to biild one. If you are referring to airport code DWS which was the already established as the Walt Disney World Airport for the airport that was built and now decommissioned and is now Stolport, that was never meant to be permanent. Come on Becky check your facts.
If they wanted to build an airport, they should have done so a long time ago! What a pity. Maybe they can build a light rail (monorail) line from the existing airport to the Resort? You read my idea here first Disney, and I want my cut!
Agreed, Omar! The whole Disney thing has turned into a dump… just like everything else the extreme left gets their hands on. (No pun intended). It’s sad.
Nice idea, but it’ll never happen. Any major construction they have going on has either been massively delayed or they did away with. Look at Tron. And how about that monorail that was suppose to take us to Disney Springs from the airport? What happened to that? Nope. They build too slowly, and an airport cobbled together in nine months would make me feel very unsafe. Corners would have to be cut to make it in nine months, and we all know it’d be a tiny airport that would connect to MCO anyway, lol.
ThiS for all the winers out there but I’ll address it to you Walt. Prices don ‘t go up then you don’t have the newer rides. You talk out pay checks. Tell you what you go back to the wages you were making in seventies, try to survive today then you have something to say.
This is fantasy. It’s impossible to get an airport built in under a year. Even if they have the autonomy of Reedy Creek, they’ll still have to deal with the FAA. It would take years. It also doesn’t make sense. It would be far cheaper to keep running the Magical Express to MCO. But I could see Chapeck wanting to build it to attract the super rich, but I don’t see how having an airport would make a big difference from that angle.
I fear for the dreaded ‘GENERAL DESANTIS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT’.
His arrogance does quality him for such a self-appointed name change given the opportunity. He already runs ‘Air DeSantis’ up to Martha’s Vineyards and so wants to be a king someday.

Disney is just plain stupid. How is it that a company (like many other companies) can take free services and change them to paid… yet a free service like Magical Express is just gotten rid of, instead of just keeping it and making it a paid service?
I have opted NOT to revisit WDW due to the lack of Magical Express and jumping through other hoops just to get from the airport to the resort and then the reverse to get home. I would have gladly paid the added expense for Magical Express had the option been available.
All Disney had to do was leave Magical Express EXACTLY the way it was and simply tack on a fee to your Disney hotel bill. Too late now, the areas in the airport and resorts that were Magical Express are now used for other things. Impossible to go back. “If it ain’t broke don’t mess with it”. I agree with other writers… Magical Express was the “hook”. Now that it is gone, goodbye to staying on property. Short sighted fools.
Those magical express busses are alive and well and being used by Mears. Including at Universal. You can see the circles in the windows and character silhouettes are still there. 🤭🤭
The service still exists, just under a different name. It’s also ran by the same company as before, Mears. It’s just not funded by Disney so now it makes its own rules and charges for it. I believe it’s exactly what your asking for.
Frank, you do realize Disney pays huge amounts of property tax to Osceola and Orange Counties. Then they pay gargantuan taxes to Reedy Creek Improvement District. Disney pays more in taxes than any other landowner in Florida.
