Yeah, that is why you can just go online now and get a reservation for tonight at any of those restaurants mentioned. Not! They sure are still going and dining at Cinderella’s Royal Table, Space 220 and more.
Disney has gone overboard it appears they are going for fewer guests by turning the parks into a playground for the rich and pricing out the the same families Walt originally built the parks for
Agree with the others! I actually commented about this on another ITM post about costs. I can’t find that post now? But we just got back from a ten day trip, but only ate at two restaurants the entire time. Boma and Liberty Tree. They’re both as much as you care to eat, and quite tasty. But for three people, $150 and $180 respectively after tax and tip. We can’t afford that every day. “Counter meals” the rest of the trip cost us nearly $45 a meal for three people. And we didn’t get drinks! The restaurants that baffle me are Sci Fi diner or the Italian ones. Over $20 each for American food like hamburgers or basic spaghetti? No thanks, lol
Or just bring food like most normal people do in Disney trips.
Peanuts, Peanut butter jelly sandwiches, and a cup salad is already meal for a day. That costs like maybe $6 at most compared to $70 for a full day’s worth of meals.
We have been to Disney so many times, that trying new dining experiences was as important as park time…when they still had the meal plan. Now, until the meal plans are brought back the way they used to be, I just can’t justify the cost for meals on property anymore.
I don’t really get that, the meal plans, the good ones separately priced, ran like $400 per person, and if u were getting it included with your hotel stay u had to pay regular price for the rooms so u were still paying for the dining plan either way u go, but maybe it just didn’t feel like u were and u enjoyed eating wherever and whenever u wanted cause it felt nice to do that. I have always done quick service meals and paid out of pocket and with one quick service meal, and a few snacks for me and the hubby we never spent over $75 for our park day in food for the both of us, I always felt like I guess most people just have way more money to spend than I did, and that’s great they are blessed.
I had felt the dinning started decline prior to the pandemic when Disney went from full menus selections to only a few options.
They choose to change menus like beast castle for lunch.
Where they had 5 meals and no longer offered the subs.
Each one and the commissary food offering last time turned us away. Not one hamburger or chicken sandwich. I can’t even phantom having sushi on a warm day.
We will eat outside Disney or go to Disney springs or back to DVC resort.
Yes, people are going to pay all the new features at the parks because they have no idea what Disney was like before that. The price of food was always high but now it is outrageous. So, Disney, wake up. Your past customers remember and the word is getting around.
Beware also, don’t try and use old tickets, the ones they said are non expiring, it is true, but they aren’t worth what a ticket price is so you end up with a bunch of water park tickets instead. Nice. Thanks for the downgrade.
The prices are high because of the demand. That’s just how economics and business works. Quit complaining and go find something cheaper. That’s how you really send a message.
We went to Be Our Guest in March 2022. Food quality was decreased and the wait staff was lacking (slower than normal). The price was $62/person. I remember when our kids were young we couldn’t afford that meal. We had to be grateful that they had a cheaper lunch option. It would be nice if they brought that option back allowing more families to have that experience.
Right now Disney World is squeezing every penny they can out of guest due to demand from delayed pandemic travel plus the 50th Anniversary. They are trying to make up for lost revenue over the past 2+ years plus trying to build a cushion for the impending recession. They are charging all these exorbitant prices because people are still paying for it!! Disney only responds to the bottom line and could care less about guest complaints. I see so many people complaining and then follow up with, “I hope it’s better next time” As long as Disney Parks is in the green they will continue this price inflation. We cancelled our next trip because thats all Disney will respond to if enough people do the same, but sadly everyone will continue to go, pay the prices, complain, and then book their next trip.
Went back in early 1980’s and have not been back since.
That’s right over 40 years ago and I live a hour away it.
Why you ask?
I hate waiting in long lines and only getting a minimal amount of time riding the rides and being charged excessive amounts for my food and drink.
Universal is a bit better but not by much.
Walt and Roy Disney would be livid about how the new Disney model is operating.
It’s not the happiest place on earth 🌏 anymore but a place where the Disney Corporation s goal is to see how fast it can drain the wallets of it’s guests.
I love ❤️ seeing all the bad reviews it’s getting and they are well deserved reviews.
Disney don’t hold your breath for me to visit, I personally would love to see Disney attendance to plunge dramatically so it goes bankrupt and someone else take it over who understands who it’s core guest should really be and no it’s not the richer 10 percent of the population.
I’m sure this article is quite old since Akerhaus has not been open for several years. Prices for a prix fixe menu have gone up to $79 to $89 per person and portions are small. A portion of fish was literally 3 or 4 bites! Extremely limited choices in all table service restaurants are limited to no more than 4 choices with one of them vegetarian. I know they claim supplier issues but that should not be the case anymore. I think they are just trying to make more money with less effort! Even quick service at parks and hotels have limited choices.
I’m done with Disney world. Been over 30 times. It was always my happy place. Last visit (pre pandemic) was not magical at all. Too many people to even walk around. Too long lines & the food was already on decline. The quality of food & se=vice was a big disappointment. I decided then I was done. Sorry Disney, but there are other vacation destinations to choose from.
I’m skipping WDW altogether. After going adults only every year for many years the magic is gone. As adults we had a relaxed visit. Usually just hopping on the first bus that came along and making no plans in advance. They won’t miss me but I miss those days.
To high for us now after many years of fun and memories! No more going. Food quality and quantity has declined drastically with prices out the roof! Thanks for the memories! Now our trips focus on Universal. Their food is pricy and not great quality but can get a room at their resorts and tickets for half the price of Disney. We love Disney but they priced this family out of staying there again. Universal at the way now until they get to pricy!
The price jump for V and A is all.about ego. Food is food and shouldn’t be based on it being made by a famous chef. It’s just pricing people out and my husband and I are middle class who went often to the restaurant. I’d never pay this price and you’re insane if you do. I know they have higher priced places in Las Vegas. People who have grown up in the food business laugh at anyone who would pay such prices. I speak from experience as my husband was an award winning chef and my dad is a Culinary Olympics medal winner who is one of the few chefs of his caliber who doesn’t have an ego.
I never plan to ever return to a Disney park. I was there when the mouse opened in Florida and went many times. It was also novel and affordable. I can always get into crowds and Fisney these days is just “Hohum” in my opinion. Why pay for either experience.
I have a friend that was a chef in Orlando at one of the premier restaurants and said they are ALL frustrated and upset! Less portion size, higher prices brings more complaints and food sent back. Less culinarily creativity too. Chefs upset, servers and managers upset and now hate having to go to work instead of happy to go to work. The work culture has taking a dive. That’s Bob C! Great job!! He’s glad he’s not there anymore.
We used to spend big when princesses came to the table at Cinderella’s castle and such but won’t till that experience returns. However, I don’t think many are skipping sit down because it was very hard to get any reservations. My husband was up at 2:45a pst just to get one. So it looks like they’re doing just fine with dining.
I went to WDW for a couple of weeks and spent maybe $50 (while on property) on food the entire time…. Something to be said for sending a box with snacks (went to the 99 Cent Store) ahead of arrival and being able to make a quick trip to Walmart for other stuff part way through the 2 weeks. You don’t have to eat on property, there are better options.
I want to start by validating other peoples feelings. Maybe if you’ve gone for many years you’ve noticed a change or a decline. If you have children it can also be very expensive. There’s also the possibility that you had a rude or incompetent waiter or waitress or the kitchen was having a bad day. But A friend and I just got back from a 10 day trip and we had a sit down dinner reservation every single day and we had absolutely delicious meals and wonderful service. We ate at Teppan Edo and the salmon was so incredibly good. The chef who cooked it was so much fun. We had wonderful crepes at the crêperie in Epcot. We had a delicious seafood and pasta meal at the boathouse. We had wonderful fish and gnocchi at Todd English blue zoo. I had a really great roasted shrimp scampi and my friend had a huge Caesar salad with chicken at Tony’s restaurant in Magic Kingdom‘s. We had terrific pasta and pizza at mama Melrose and I can’t live without that cobb salad at Hollywood derby. I wish I could’ve bought five or six to take home it is so so good. We had a wonderful huge buffet at Boma. Tiffins was absolutely wonderful and we never miss it when we go to animal kingdom. They have such different flavors and the service is absolutely amazing every time.We had so many wonderful meals I can’t think of them all. We thought the portions were so huge, two adult women, and we didn’t finish any of them. We didn’t wanna order kids meals because we loved the variety of flavors and dishes on the adult meals.
The wife and I just returned, we are DVC members and would have to agree the sit down meals and quality has gone down hill and we ate off site part of our trip and in the room. The biggest disappointment was Be Our Guest. My wife had the chicken and it was dried out, my son the pork tenderloin and it was also over done and dry. They were grabbing the plates from the table before we were done obviously focused on turning tables for the next seating. Whispering Canyon was actually good.
Comments for “$50 Per Person Is Insane”, Multiple Guests Are Skipping Big Parts of Walt Disney World
TimW
No one is going because it’s too crowded and expensive. I’m sure this will work
Scott Lee-Ross
Yeah, that is why you can just go online now and get a reservation for tonight at any of those restaurants mentioned. Not! They sure are still going and dining at Cinderella’s Royal Table, Space 220 and more.
Steve
Yeah because Disney would never manipulate the reservation system to make it look like something is in more demand than it really is.
*eyeroll*
Scott, give it up.
Ugh
Steve, you can’t get out of your dirty EZ chair, much less confirm how busy the parks are. Don’t let your Dumptard show bud.
Jefferson

Sci-fi is a skip next time, agreed. But Mama Melrose surprised us with some of the best food we’ve had anywhere. We’ll go back to that one.
Steve
Food at Disney, especially quick service, is a scam. Take a break mid day and go over to I192.

Going to WDW entirely.
Too woke for me.

TOTALLY agree….way tooooo WOKE.
We will not be back.

Lol, how fitting. A couple of screeching Cows complaining. Good! Stay away, Karens. See ya!

What do you mean by “woke”?

Skipping? I’m done with Disney, prices, crowds and rides down constantly.

I want the dining plan back before I even consider going back to Disney World. I’m planning to take my grandkids to universal next year.

Bye Karen!

If your looking for great food…. Go to Chicago…..

I can’t eat adult size portions anymore but Disney at Cinderellas Round Table wouldn’t let you order a kids meal. Such a waste.
