Why not keep the ride’s name — “Splash Mountain”? The theming inside might change, from Song of the South to Tiana to who knows what will follow? But the historic nature of the ride can — in my mind should — always be Splash Mountain.

You know what comes off as racist to me? Disney’s drive to erase normal people, predominantly white people, from their media.

    1. SCOTT lee-ross

your racism is clear. When you say Normal People and then use the appositive “Predominantly White” there is no longer any point in hiding your bigotry.

      1. Steve

        That is an interesting reading.

      2. Shirley

You knew it was coming. You’re a racist because you like Splash Mountain.

    2. Squirrelylove

Yes! Say it louder for the racists in the back! Erasing one culture to appease another is bullcrap

    3. Booker

People like Steve need to be erased permanently.

Ok so you are offended. Be offended and the victim.
    Your choice.

I bet a million dollars she didn’t even see the movie. The movie takes place after the American Civil War and abolition of slavery. There’s no slaves in the film. It’s about Uncle Remus telling Br’er rabbit tales to kids. The cast defended working on it. This is the perfect example of believing everything on social media and not doing the research on your own. #SaveSplashMountain

Exactly. Well said and well put! They learned nothing, because they are stupid and their empty heads were filled with lies by words from trolls, liars, and real racists. Lack of education.

    2. Michelle

The whole thing is based on a racist book by a white man who exaggerated the way that enslaved people spoke for entertainment value

      1. Seabo

*Southern people* not enslaved people. Who’s racist now, moron.

      2. Jayne1955

The story was set AFTER the war. They were sharecroppers, not slaves.

Um, hello? News flash: BLACK LIVES CAN’T MATTER ALL OF THE TIME. They shouldn’t matter all of the time as well! Our world has other lives too, like Asian lives, Latino lives, Native American lives, Inuit lives, Pacific Islander lives, Hindu lives, Middle Eastern lives, and White lives. They all matter too! It feels like Black lives are hogging all the “matter” these days, and needs to be shared with other people of color!

Oh, and getting rid of Splash Mountain feels like the Yang of the “Yin and Yang” overpowering the Yin. Life needs both the “Yin and Yang”!

    1. Michelle

“Save the Whales” does not mean to hell with dolphins, and similarly “Black lives matter” does not mean that all other lives don’t matter.

Also of course black lives matter all the time.

      1. Steve

        White lives matter.

      2. Squingy

By your standard ALL LIVES matter ALL OF THE TIME.
So which is? Clearly you are the racist here.

      3. B

        Not all the time

      4. stephen

Nah. They matter to the percent that blacks are part of the overall population which is about 12%. The people who matter more are the indigenous ones who were here before all the europeans showed up and killed almost all of them. Then shoved what few were left into remote reservations to live instead. Sure slavery was crappy as heck but the slaves never ever were treated as badly as the native tribes.

        1. Beth W.

Finally something I can get on board with. I agree with this stephen! And if the U.S. government makes restitution to any group, it should be to the indigenous people who were treated horribly!

    2. M. Abraham

Oh please. That’s a super ignorant comment. 99% of the characters at Disney are white. So re-theming Splash Mountain to Princess and the Frog is not “hogging all the matter” as you say. It is featuring a princess that is not white at a theme park where, again, 99% of the characters are Caucasian. You are the exact reason why we have issues in this country. White characters are predominately featured in all media. That is not representative of America. Kids deserve to see themselves in the tv shows and movies they watch. You said one thing correctly, Disney needs to provide representation of other races in their parks and movies. Let’s feature more characters from Mulan, Raya, Coco, Encanto, Black Panther, etc. Stop being so close-minded. And understand that equality isn’t a pie. Equality for others doesn’t mean less slices for you! And before you say anything racist towards me, I am a Caucasian woman who believes in representation in the media and equality for all!

As a child, I saw the movie “Song of the South” and read Uncle Remus’ stories of Brer Fox and Brer Rabbit. I see nothing racist in the story. If anything, the exact opposite is displayed. The little white boy values and learns from his friendship and the tales Uncle Remus shares. Each tale teaches a moral in an entertaining way.

    1. Anonymous

That’s true. Stories like these are known to help young generations solve their similar problems and situations.

    2. M. Abraham

It’s the way the black characters are portrayed in the movie, including the crows. It’s the fact that times weren’t easy, and still aren’t, for blacks in the south. There was no equality, no zip-a-dee-do-dah. Learn your history. Movies from this era reflected many of the racist stereotypes from that time period (and, unfortunately are still seen today). If you don’t understand that, try reading and learning more before you speak. I enjoyed that movie as a kid too. But i was too young to understand. If, as an adult, you still don’t see the racism in the language and mannerisms that they portray in the characters, then you need to look inward and acknowledge your own prejudices.

Seems this idiot clout-chaser can dish out her opinions but not take them. When she complained on Twitter about this story being posted, I replied that ITM was just quoting her PUBLIC comments. She immediately blocked me. I think she’s probably just another low-IQ wannabe influencer who thinks the world cares what she thinks when no one does.

I’ll contact the circus in case they didn’t know one of their clowns was missing

    1. RedzRobinz

Dude, you can’t come up with a legimate arguement, you believing false information about this topic and won’t even take the time to do the proper research, and you’re labeling anyone who disagrees with your delusional takes racist trump supporters. Yeah, you’re the real clown here buddy. In fact, you’re the whole circus.

This proves that Disney doesn’t give a crap about their fans at all. If they did Splash Mountain wouldn’t be getting a retheme. All what Bob Chapek and all the other cronies at Disney care about right now is bowing down to the woke mob. Disney has done this by having the not so secret gay agenda, canceling Splash Mountain , getting rid of the natives from Jungle Cruise and the soon to be Indian removal from Peter Pan’s flight.

    1. Steve

There is a detail that needs correction. Bob and Disney are not bowing to the woke mob, they are the woke mob. They are one of the leading forces trying to destroy our culture to push their agenda and it has been going on for decades.

      1. Marcus

Being woke isn’t destroying culture. Being woke means being sensitive to other people’s feelings. That’s a good thing. The GOP has wrongly tried to make “woke” a bad word.

        1. Gibli

The perverts should be sensitive to children and their parents’ desires to not have a disgusting, perverse agenda pushed on the world.
Now THAT would be a woke gesture.

Same can be said for the Marxist comments racism in any form is wrong. But, to get rid of historical content does not teach anyone anything it just further divides people. Anything that draws attention to one race as being either under privileged or over privileged is a form of racism. Karl Marx whom the Black Lives Matter group was inspired by was the opposite of Martin Luther King. Martin Luther King believed that all people no matter the color of their skin could have a dream and walk hand and hand together. Karl Marx believed that blacks were superior over whites. All people matter but in order for people to coexist you need to learn from past mistakes which means to not always make things out to be a personal attack on groups of people it needs to be viewed within the framework of it’s time period reference but also know that the content is not a personal attack to that group in the present unless it was created in the present with the intention to marginalize people which then fall into racism behavior. Extremist behavior like saying certain people are automatically racists because of their skin color is very wrong.

  11. tiana's wife (she/her)

this comment section is weird,,, i’d like to go back to when it wasn’t socially acceptable to be publicly racist. disneyland is supposed to be the happiest place on earth, not the whitest place on earth. not everything is for you. if you dont like tiana’s ride, suck it up and cry somewhere else. stop coming to disneyland, then. learn to move on.

    1. Steve

This has to be a joke.

      1. Steve

My comment was intended to be posted as a reply to “she/her”.

      2. tiana's wife (she/her)

how is it a joke? my pronouns are she/her. everyone has pronouns, Steve. and before you try to make some comment, yes, I was born female lmao. it’s just nice to be referred to properly, Steve. I’m sure if someone called YOU she/her you’d throw a fit, because you’re clearly some weird cis guy. I’m sorry disneyland being inclusive bothers you so much, but that isn’t my problem.

        1. davis

No one gives two poops what you ideal or preferred pronouns are. The only weird one is you since you feel the need to waste the time and include them in all your replies.

    2. tiana's wife (she/her)

tiana is getting a ride. I’m sorry that makes your white supremacist self upset, but again, disneyland isn’t for you. splash mountain was based off of a racist movie that disney is so embarrassed about, they tried to completely erase it. why would you want something that embarrasses your beloved company to be on display? aside from all that, Walt Disney always intended for Disneyland to be welcoming to ALL and inclusive to ALL. that includes black people, my guy. and that includes making sure the park is a safe space for all, including black people, which the presence of splash mountain was encroaching on. anyway, you’re probably a troll because everything you say is so outrageous and ridiculous that I can’t force myself to take it seriously. but I thought I’d reply for others’ sake.

      1. tiana's wife (she/her)

lol, you’re crazy. disney is for poc and the guys. cry about it and then suck it up and get over it. 🙂

        1. davis

Well as a gay you must be very familiar with sucking on things.

      2. tiana's wife (she/her)

        I meant the gays

      3. Steve

        Uh hem.

Tiana is straight and if you identify as a woman, your insting you are her wife is creepy and literally rape. #MeToo

      4. Walt

Just becuase you write down your ignorant lies does not make them true

      5. Jayne1955

Tom Sawyer was more racist than Song of the South. They could have made a great Bayou on Tom Sawyer’s island that would have been connected to the riverboat and made for a stellar experience.

I’d like to go back to when people didn’t feel it was necessary to use him/her/she/it to describe themselves because we already knew what you were at the first look.

    5. Angela Williams

Thank you! I’m disgusted by the racist idiots in these comments.

  12. RedzRobinz

This is the most delusional take I’ve ever seen.

  13. Dorie

I saw song of the south as a child and loved the music. My Grandfather read the stories to me. As an adult I watched it again. It is most definitely a story about the racism in the south and how the former slaves were expected to live and act in order to get along. I don’t believe the way they talked was exaggerated. I believe that’s how they kept the KKK away from the door. That said I believe this is an important part of our history. But do small children need to be exposed to it? Probably not anymore than they need to be exposed to LBGTQ issues at that young of an age. But keep the songs. Zippa Dee Doo Da is great.

    1. Jayne1955

For the umpteenth time I don’t see what was racist about Song of the South. The black lead was the best character in it and he was NOT a slave. It was set after the war and he was a sharecropper. I just think this is a bad spot of Tiana. How many mountains are in the bayou anyway? They could have put a great bayou on Tom Sawyer’s island. Tom Sawyer had more strikes against it for being racist anyway.

  14. Marcus

I’m fine with Splash Mountain being rethemed. But people who what it to stay are not being microaggressive. The attraction does not in any way depict African-American stereotypes. The attraction only includes the animated characters from the film Song of the South which did depict African-American stereotypes. It’s wrong to bifurcate the two – the film and the ride. It’s right that Disney won’t release the film and changing the attraction is probably the right thing to do.

  15. Walt

Wow I am shocked – another ignorant titoker making ignorant and obscene comments about something they know NOTHING about. Spewing ridiculous opinions as fact laced with profanity on things they know nothing about nor have researched. And while she complains of sterotypes – she is a sterotype itself. Well done. It is a sad day when these ignorant young adults can’t name our first president but can name all the Kardashians (true fact) Just becuase you spew your ignorant lies does not make them true.

  16. ROGER D STEVENS

ALL LIVES MATTER!!! Some just decide to use things to their advantage for material needs, like Money! It is all about the greenbacks not History, or who is better than who. Lets face it, if there was no money involved, no one would give a Zippy Do Da anything.

  17. CT

Disney is the most racist company in the world. Disney is re-theming Splash Mountain because it is not happy with how much African Americans are spending in their parks and on their movies. Disney should have built a new attraction for Princess Tiana rather than re-theming one of the best attractions Disney has ever built. All the re-theming has succeeded in doing is dividing Disney’s fan base even more than it already was and making people angry.

    Racist much?

  21. Angela Williams

Ha! Ok. From one white person to another, shut up. Your ignorance is showing.

  22. Bren

I’m just wondering how some of you said you’ve seen the movie as a kid, which means you are older than dirt. But then say you’ve watched it as an adult? I’d like to know how that was possible since it’s never been released in the United States. Gosh knows I tried to find it for when our daughter was younger, but could only get it if I lived in the UK and had equipment which was intended for UK movies. Needless to say could get neither in the states to be able to justify the outrageous cost. Now did catch snips of it on a streaming media site. I always loved Uncle Remus. He proved white people suck at raising their kids, and are so self absorbed they didn’t have a chance to teach morals, values, or any life lessons. But what I also remember from those snips is his wife having to go cook at the plantation for the owners, them living in a horrible shack, and not much food either. Then other jokers trying to say we’re erasing “history” by getting rid of the ride, not showing the movie. It’s a fantasty. Newsflash…the movie was not real! It was not history by any stretch. How about reading some real history instead. Sharecroppers did not have it easy. They were poorer than dirt. Think about real history instead of this “fantasy” and propaganda they’re teaching as “history”. And before you jump down my case, I”m a white female who is so over other white people feeling so threatened over maybe another culture getting some theme time that they freak out. Newsflash again….we’re not the only color on this planet or in the United States. Better open those eyes because we are not all that great at all! Feeling threatened over some silly ride. OMG get over yourselves!
