  1. I was a teacher for 11 years. I often dug into my own pocket to buy things for my classroom. I understand how poor teachers are and how classroom budgets get cut year after year. I don’t think it’s right to ask Disney theme parks for your whole class unless your whole class is with you at the theme park. I think it’s abusing what is meant to be an in park freebie, not a “take as many as you want” freebie.

I went to Disneyland many times while I was a teacher, both with kids and without kids. I often brought back small items for the kids in my class like pressed pennies, chocolate coins, the little gemstones you can get in the bags near Pirates of the Caribbean, etc. Kids don’t care what the item is. Sometimes I would just buy Disney stickers at the Dollar Tree to give to the kids, you know what, kids don’t care.

There’s no need to abuse a free offering and spoil it for everyone just “because you are a teacher”.

    1. As a 16 year Disney cast member I can tell you this is exactly why they take away freebies. Not only do people take advantage but they post it to the world on social media. Next thing you know, your “hack” has caused Disney to eliminate the benefit or make changes to the policy.

If Disney can pay travel expenses for abortions. They can give some dam free buttons.Ya all have gone over the top with the comments like this teacher was the worst criminal in the world.Get a life.

        1. Disney fan

What on earth has abortion got to do with is?

        2. Ok first of all damn is spelled this way and y’all is this way. When does Disney pay for travel expenses for abortion? And it is WRONG to take advantage of the freebies for the people that pay to go!!! DAMN Y’ALL

        3. Cry me a river

          Exactly!
Whingeing about teachers getting some free buttons. Boo effing hoo. LOL!

        4. Cry me a river

People arguing about how they think Disney should run their corporation. All over some buttons that a teacher wants to give to our students.
Some people will piss and moan about anything.
I thought this is what safe spaces were for??

        5. DAR

I think you’ve gone WAY off topic here. 🤦‍♀️

A Cast Member once gave me a bunch of Mickey stickers. We were chatting and I was telling her about my first graders. I did NOT ask for any stickers. He simply gave them to me (didn’t know he even had them) to spread some magic. They were very much appreciated. I wouldn’t ask for class freebies. It was very special to receive the stickers, which my kids loved!

Honestly….Disney makes billions of dollars. Schools are underfunded, teachers are underpaid, and everyone knows how sky high the prices are. What teacher could afford 30 souvenirs? Disney should offer a way for teachers to order buttons for their classes, it’d be a great PR move and a nice thing for the kids. Remember, their primary customer.

Tl;DR: Disney is a billion dollar corporation. People should stop getting mad at the teacher, because don’t we have better things to do while the world burns around us and maybe go to his Amazon wishlist if you’re going to complain.

    1. Robert "Ironman" Downey

A, you are an “A”. You an people like you that think because someone has more than you, that it is “OK” to take advantage of something that was intended for single use. Disney has work hard to get the revenue it has. Yes, yes, I can hear the comments now “Yeah, they over charge and take away things” blah blah blah. All business is based on how little can I spend and resell at a profit…get over it.
My point is this, if YOU were the owner of a Billion dollar business and was nice enough to offer someone something for free for their visit, how would you react if you found out some or a large portion of some were taking that something several times over to give to those that did NOT visit?
Don’t lie, you would be pissed at being taken advantage of, stolen from and maybe even a little cheated.
Yes, teachers are important. Yes, the teacher in this example was selflessly thinking of the students that could not be there. Yes, it was a good gesture. Yes, the cast member did right to give them a magical experience. NO, it is not right to take advantage and think it is ok to do so.
Let us change this up a bit. Say I go in and say can I have 50 of these to cover birthdays for the next 50 years. I have no intention of visiting the park every year for 50 years, but I REALLY want to have a button for those days to wear with my age for that birthday. Am I wrong to do that? HECK YEAH I AM. If you sad no…shame on you and I fear for the future of America and the human race as a whole.

This is why we can’t have freebies at Disney. I get that teachers want anything and everything they can get to make their classrooms special, but if you really want the buttons, go through the correct channels. How would you feel if a family came, wanted a b-day button, and the CM said “a teacher was just here, took all our buttons, so sorry, none for you”.

    1. Exactly. I mean the teacher’s heart was in the right place (with his students where it should be) but this type of behavior will only end the freebies for everyone and it’s not their intended purpose.

      1. Lainy N

While I understand the intention and definitely understand that not all kids get to experience Disney due to the cost, what about the families that save and save and scrape together every penny they can to take their child to Disney to celebrate a milestone or birthday and the pin is super special to them?!?! They walk into school and a whole class gets one on their birthday from their teacher? Seems all together wrong to me.

    2. Jayne1955

YES! This is it in a nutshell.

  4. Chris

I doubt taking some free buttons is going to ruin it for everyone. They have boxes and boxes of those freebies. Stop being a Karen before you hurt yourself.

    1. As a 16 year Disney cast member I can tell you this is exactly why they take away freebies. Not only do people take advantage but they post it to the world on social media. Next thing you know, your “hack” has caused Disney to eliminate the benefit or make changes to the policy.

      1. Private

Hi – Cast member and teacher here. Teachers have been doing this for years and the buttons remain. They can’t “take them”, they ask and are willingly given. Why would we not want to spread the magic when we can? It makes me sad how hateful people are being. 😔

    2. Jayne1955

But they won’t have boxes and boxes of them if every teacher who goes to Disney takes 30 at a time. Disney is on money grubbing kick. We lost free transportation from the airport, free magic bands, free parking at the hotels and a lot more already. They’ll get to the buttons eventually. Just wait and see.

  5. Eddie Munson

They asked for them and a Disney representative obliged giving her the 30 buttons. If it wasn’t an issue with Disney then why is it an issue. And I would think they’d put a limit on free items before they stopped altogether.

    1. Raginhari

The point was don’t put it on social media. One person doing it. Fine. 10,000 doing it because one cast member let one person do it is a whole other issue. 30 buttons goes to 300,000. Then what happens when a cast member tells them no. Full tantrum and another article complaining about it.

    2. luvprue1

Exactly! If they said it was ok then it’s ok

    3. Rose

CMs aren’t supposed to say no to the guest when they are asked for something with exceptions this wouldn’t be one so the cm most likely felt obligated to say yes especially since they still had enough but now that this is online it can have bad repercussions. If more guests do this, Disney will put up new policies or remove the freebie and sell them instead, just like what they did when too many guests wore inappropriate clothes just to get free shirts. Just cause you can do something doesn’t mean you should do it.

  6. Steve

Karen story. Losers whining about 2 cent buttons freely given by a hundred billion dollar multinational corporation. Disney adults are pathetic.

    1. Miles

Says Steve who literally wakes up and runs to the lTM website to see what misery he can spew today. Steve, you are in every single lTM article’s comment section, every single day. you have no room to talk cr@p about Disney fans. Go get a job.

      1. Backcountry164

If you don’t like people talking about you maybe just avoid this site…

    2. Ricky Abraham Jr

      👏🏻👏🏻 100% right

  7. Emma

No she shouldn’t take them. Unless the class are with her. Forget cost its just wrong. And for everyone saying it costs pennies, so then why doesnt the teacher actually BUY some birthday buttons for the class rather than being cheap. They also have a duel purpose at Disney so cast members can surprise you at their discretion if you have A badge. So that would be lost too. Disney would take them away, they have taken everything else.

  8. Beth

Honestly i was dissapointed that the Buttons were all gone early in the morning when i wanted one to celebrate my actual birthday… Now, i am an adult and got over it pretty quickly. But imagen a Child in this Situation and someone like this teacher took the last 30 Buttons. The idea to Gift Something to your students is amazing, probably ruining Part of the experience for Others is the downside you should keep in mind.

    1. Deb

I personally would not ask for 30 buttons, but some comments are just over the top. Have you ever thought that this is free advertising for Disney? Sure maybe some families can’t afford a vacation, but as some of these kids grow older they will. Maybe the kids will ask for Disney merch etc down the road. Considering what Disney spends on advertising this is a drop in the bucket. I have a lithograph that Disney donated to my son’s school that I won at a silent auction. Will Disney get rid of the perk, I doubt it. All these comments because a teacher wants to make a kid feel special on their birthday is ridiculous. Disney doesn’t give discounts to teachers like many other businesses do. They do give discounts to many other groups of people. So maybe the only restriction should be to show proof as employment as a teacher. Grow up people, it takes time and effort to make sure you acknowledge every student’s birthday.

      1. Phil

I agree, for what Disney spends on it’s parks these buttons are FREE ADVERTISING (well the small cost of making thousands of these buttons). That teacher‘a students will remember them and the teacher that awarded them.

    2. Ricky Abraham Jr

So if you go to McDonalds wanting chicken nuggets and you get there and they don’t have any. Do you get mad at McDonalds for not ordering enough nuggets or do you get mad at the guy in front of you that ordered the last 20 nuggets?

  9. Robert "Ironman" Downey

I have personally witnessed people being told that they were all out of buttons for the day. I couldn’t care less how much they “cost Disney”, even if it’s a penny. Bottom line, you’re abusing of something that wasn’t intended for that purpose and causing others to miss out because of it. Greed is greed, period.

  11. Even if Disney doesn’t take away the free buttons, they don’t have an unlimited supply at any given time. There have been many times over the years when my location was out of them or only had a few. We can’t always just go the back room and get more. When we’re out, we’re out until more come in.

  12. Dude

But… couldn’t… like, couldn’t the teacher just ask for one for general classroom use. Why does each student need their own that they are probably going to lose or throw away anyways. Just get one, let the ‘birthday’ kid wear it and get it back at the end of the day.

    1. Flabbergasted

Spot on. Make the button like a special offering for the student’s birthday.

You can even get 2 just in case 2 student’s share the same birthday. There are so may other ways to celebrate the student’s without causing headaches for the Cast Members at the parks and through email, when 100 teachers start asking for class sets of buttons.

Nothing like teasing little kids on their birthday with things they can’t have.

  13. Jayne1955

If this becomes a trend the free buttons will be gone and sold at hotel desks for $5.99. The cast member who did this was trying to be nice but I think they should have said no and he should not have had the audacity to ask in the first place, especially in today’s Disney money grubbing climate. This is why things go away.

  14. Teresa

So everyone worrying about Disney stopping the free buttons for them because Disney gladly supports teachers?! Geez! How many of you take the pen out of the room? I imagine Disney takes the cost of the buttons out of their marketing and advertising budget. If it gets out of control Disney will control it. Like they already do!
THANK YOU DISNEY for sharing the magic with everyone!!

    1. Phil

The people that complain about someone (the teacher) getting free buttons should worry about Disney putting in “Pay Toilets “.

  15. Ron

Kids, this is just scratching the surface. I’ve witnessed the same with Park maps, all the different buttons with the “1st Visit button” being most popular, character stickers and even asking for multiples of Disney shopping bags. When I’ve asked these folks what they do with all that “stuff” many reply that they sell Disney travel packages and give it to their customers as a thank you for booking through them. Some say they sell it online. Now I do believe working with a Disney travel agent gets you more bang for your buck for the first visit or two but emptying the map racks and button bags is not right. The maps are posted online, and go to Walmart or the Dollar Store to buy your customers thank you gifts…as for the online sellers, there’s no excuse for their behavior but if someone is willing to pay ???

  16. Pehubby

Apparently those bashing the teacher, are also depriving an individual who is never going to experience the park. Start paying teacher a decent wage and then they won’t have to ask for freebies.

  17. princeofprussia

Sorry…as a career educator, this is taking too much advantage of a good thing. Especially with the fact that you yourself said your son was “gifted” the vacation, I’m guessing your on a tight budget and should respect the fact that you are perhaps already ahead of the game, and not one of the big spender families that spend $20,000 at WDW on a Disney family vacation. Be happy you had the chance to visit, and understand that the buttons, most likely, will not mean that much to your students, anyway, since they were not there and the button they receive from you has no connection to “making memories.” It’s pointless.

    1. Backcountry164

?? So your argument is that she shouldn’t have taken them because people who can afford to spend $20,000 on vacation might not be able to get a 50 cent button for free. Didn’t spend a whole lot of time thinking that one through did you??

  18. Robert Greene

After many visits to WDW and enjoying eating at Tony’s for their spaghetti and meatballs, a few years ago the waiter told us they no longer offer bread with the meal. His reply to my asking why was the large groups with their matching shirts and flags walk in, ask for bread and butter and never order a meal using it for a free snack. Guests have taken advantage of every free perk that can find. Even bread and butter in a restaurant. It’s disgusting and is part of the decline of the experience of WDW.

  19. Jan H.

This is no different than taking the toilet paper in the bathrooms, towels in the hotels and everything else that is not nailed down! People will justify anything and it’s the rest of us that will pay the price, in higher prices.

  20. Backcountry164

LMAO!! Imagine being willing to spend thousands of dollars on a crappy vacation but then getting your undies all twisted because you might lose the opportunity to get a 50 cent button for free. Disney people are the worst…

    1. Robert "Ironman" Downey

Then stop reading the comments DORK. move on a troll somewhere else.

    2. DLand

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Exactly my friend. Sometimes I really think that this site is made for people just to ARGUE & GET BENT 🤣🤣🤣🤣& Ya Know what? It works 🤣👍🏼🤣👍🏼🤣👍🏼🤣

  21. DLand

WoW 🤣🤣🤣just WoW 🤣🤣🤣about All the cry babies on here WHINING about the NICE & THOUGHTFUL TEACHER 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Teacher IF your reading this, next time you do something for your classroom “DON’T POST OR SHARE IT ONLINE,” this is EXACTLY what is going to happen to you & I Like what you did being both once a Teacher & PAST Disneyland Cast Memeber who also worker as a Main Gate Hostess. You are Great 🥳👏🏼🥳👏🏼🥳👍🏼🥳👏🏼

    1. Phil

      I agree!!!!

  22. Royz

Each situation has two sides of the fence. That said, each situation has different context of what occurred to give reason for opinion.

The comment about Tonys and large groups just asking for breadand butter…yes clearly thats taking advantage of a loophole aka”hack” , and yesnot fair to guests of WDW dining at Tonys who pay for a full meal.

Takng multiples of freebies, maps, buttons, etc., to use as a thank you for travel agents to the clients (Disney should be the only one using promotional material, mps, buttons etc, as a thank you…not third parties unless authorized by Disney corporate, and or reselling the items on Ebay, like with the souvenier popcorn buckets, that the same guests areable to get more than the limit in place or other seasoanl or anniversay merch, yes that is clear abuse of opportunity and graciousness on part of the Disney Company offers to guests.

Birthday butttons for the classroom for kids/families who may not afford a trip to WDW, is A OK, however, instances like this maybe possibly should be a corporate public/guest relations contact on property in place for when requests are made. As long the request was cleared/ok’d by upper level supervisor, mangement or corporate, should not be a problem.

To view this repsonse by the former cast member, is a different angle all together. I get it, the former cast member is upset, others are too, (remember two sides of the fence here)…the response does evoke some hostility of a temper, that maybe too harsh. Questions come into play, do a lot of cast members both current and former have this much anger and annomosity built up towards guests of WDW an DL?

The response though emotional, could have been tailored in a less confrontative manner.

  23. Jack S

    How petty you all are!

  24. Tim

I couldn’t read all of the comments, but here is a different idea. Not justifying the issue but maybe an idea that Disney is thinking. Say the teacher gives out all 30 buttons and they cost Disney 10 cents each. So that is 3 dollars total. Now out of those 30 students 6 students convince their parents to take them to Disney at an average of 5000 dollars per family. So they got 30,000 income with 3 dollars investment. Pretty good ROI. Now I don’t expect Cheapek to see that but it is possible.

  25. GL

Easy fix for Disney, if this is truly abused:
Scan the ticket to indicate a button has been given. Shouldn’t embe a huge lift for their IT deoartment, given how many things are tied to that ticket record already.

  26. Bob

It isn’t like Disney can’t afford these pins.
They are an advertising tool and that’s what they’ll do in this teacher’s community.

  27. Ren W

I cannot believe the negativity on this issue. It is like people just live to criticize others. This teacher is trying to do something nice for her students. She said many of the families would not be able to afford a Disney vacation. So giving them a theme park button is unique and they can wear it all day and feel special. Some comments imply she is being cheap by not buying trinkets out of her own pocket. I don’t think it is even about that. Sounds like she has just found a creative and meaningful way to bring some Disney joy to her students.
