If that S1 guy ends up being right, I am not going to be able to stop laughing for a day.

  2. PoppaBrenner

    I wished it was TRUE!
There’s nothing racist about the animals on Splash Mountain.

    1. odubya23

That’s a little disingenuous, don’t you think? Song of the South is never, ever going to be let out of the vault and while I shudder at historic revisionism, perhaps these stories should be examined in a more sterile setting, not a child’s theme park.

  3. Duckie

Good, I’m excited for the update. I hope they open a little beignet shop near the ride too. ☺️

    1. Buzzy

There is already a beignet shop by haunted mansion, which is right next to splash (at least at Disneyland)

“Song of the South” came out in 1946. That’s 76 years ago. This attraction’s theme is ready for retirement, no matter the reason. I believe the vast majority of riders on “Splash Mountain” have no idea where the characters of the attraction originated. Additionally, I would venture to say that the characters of “The Princess and the Frog” are far more recognizable and beloved by the majority of the park-goers in 2022. It’s hell getting old, but it happens.

      1. Steve

OK. Let’s demolish thunder mountain, splash mountain, haunted mansion, and the castles. Your nonsense excuse applies just as well to them.

        1. odubya23

Yeah, but none of those other attractions are attached to overtly racist films. Nice strawman.

      2. WDWfan

But to me, Song of the South being so outdated is the perfect reason to keep splash mountain the way it is. I’m tired of every new attraction being heavily based on a Disney IP, and while splash mountain is no exception, it is so detached from the original film that it basically feels like an original attraction, very much like Thunder and Space Mountain.

No one wants this re-theme. I’ve seen more dislikes then likes on it and every poll I’ve seen is against the re-theme. Not one poll supports the re-theme. Leave Splash alone.

    1. Steve

There are also more dislikes than likes on practically every Disney movie trailer, but that doesn’t seem to stop them from putting out the same garbage no one wants to see.

      1. Steve

They did a typically poor job of it. The data is still available, it just isn’t shown.

    2. Becky

I haven’t heard of anyone who doesn’t want it. People I talk to are excited for it and feel it’s about time there was Princess & the Frog at Disney World. I’m looking forward to it and think a bayou adventure will be perfect!

    3. zara

Well it’s happening get over it…or used to it…I for one cannot wait for the re theme

      1. Dan

It’s ok, your safe space will protect you

        1. Valerie Warden

What’s wrong with you children it’s Disney what are you doing why do you always complain about it you got to remember there there was a time there was no Disneyland there was nothing to do but go to the beach out here in California and that was it

          1. Valerie Warden

And if you don’t like Disney go to Knott’s Berry farm

  5. Chris

I support retheming at Disneyland, but leaving Disney World’s alone. Best of both worlds and Disneyland’s would fit.in well themeing wise.

    1. WDWfan

Or Woody’s Roundup. Maybe we’ll find out what happened on the final episode!!

That said, I do think that WDW’s splash should be left alone. While Song of the South already doesn’t fit into Frontierland all too well, a bayou would stick out like a sore thumb aesthetic-wise. WDW’s version is the better of the two anyway, so if either should be kept, the more developed one should remain. DL’s version used recycled animatronics from America Sings, and it certainly shows its age a lot more than it’s eastern counterpart.

Whoever would believe this post has no idea how public affairs reps word announcements. This was seemingly fake from sentence one. I did get April Fooled by a rather elaborate, well worded article about discovering an archived document about Walt Disney not wanting to re-create animated stories for so long as Walt Disney animation studios was in operation. Effectively canceling all future live action films based on prior animated films. I suppose I wanted to believe it. They butchered Lion King into kitten meat. It just had to be true before they do it to Little Mermaid and Snow White. Alas, it was also done as a satire.

    1. WDWfan

I agree. As soon as I read this statement, I knew it had to be fake. The wording just seemed off and unlike any public announcement I’ve ever read. No company would ever use the words “we were wrong”.

  7. Chris Wood

I’d have more respect for Disney if they kept splash mountain as is. Pandering and placating a few loud mouth nobodies is outrageous.

    1. Steve

They will only care when normal people boycott. The loud wokesters ARE Disney. They replaced the sane employees on every level. That is Iger’s legacy.

      1. Elijah

Iger’s left Disney. Chapek is in charge now and he’s probably done the opposite of Iger and brought in sane employees who don’t care about the retheme.

        1. Steve

Chapek is literally one of the wokesters Iger hired. He turned every one of their recent movies into propaganda and started a losing war with Florida. Try again.

          1. WDWfan

While I don’t much care about Chapek’s business tactics, he’s not the one in charge of these “woke” decisions. Many people forget that as CEO, his only job is to make good financial decisions for the company. If you want to blame anyone for the current changes at the parks, blame Josh D’Amaro and the park presidents, as well as the lead imagineers, who recently began programs to promote “inclusivity” in the parks. Keep in mind that before he was CEO, Chapek was in charge of WDW, and things were just fine when he was. I think Chapek did a good job in his old position—he’s just not a great CEO for the corporation.

          2. WDWfan

Don’t much care *for his business tactics. Mistyping on my part.

          3. Zippity Bye Bye

Is there anything you brain-dead righties won’t blame on ‘woke’

It’s actually getting funny at this point. You soil yourself over ‘woke’ at every single turn without fully understanding what it is.

I’m pretty sure Paycheck also supported that mentalist De Santis until the staff pushed back… So to call him ‘woke’… Dude – everyone is laughing at you.

  8. ROGER D STEVENS

Screw all those “We want a FROG ride people. Cannot leave anything alone. They cry that a Rabbit, Bear, and Fox are racist. GEEZZZZZZ!!!!!

  9. Please leave it Splash

I really wish they would leave it as splash mountain! Give Tiana her own ride somewhere else. How are you supposed to concur the mountains?!? Also, if the ride was so offensive and racist why do people still ride it?!? It’s always busy!

  10. Buzzy

Don’t mind rethemeing or refreshing it, but why change the name? The name is legendary and not racist.

    1. WDWfan

To be honest, I’m glad the name is changing. While I will miss the third mountain, it would feel wrong for me to see the same name under new theming. Splash Mountain will always be connotated with the Song of the South theming, so I’m not sure many people would want to see the name continue to be used for the new attraction.

  11. Chris Kinney

I think a better idea would be to re-theme Tom Sawyer’s Island to the bayou, so there could be a ride, restaurant, and shops. The look of it also already fits.

    1. Ronald Paladino

You know who’s racist, the virtue signalers and trigger word latte suburbanites that believe as they are told. The fact of the matter is that Song of the South was a movie and like any movie the characters portrayed therin we’re design choices by it’s Directors and actors for that matter. James Baskett, who played Uncle Remus, was postumously awarded an Oscar for his role in the movie, making him the first Black actor to receive an Academy Award. Your fight to bury this movie buries not only his legacy, but the actual struggle and progress cinema has overcome.

  12. Randy Nocks

Leave it alone! Complete and utter bs. Males us not want to go back. Song of the south gave birth to zipadeedoodah! We loved as kids and now as adults. There is notbing racist about it. If you dont like it dont ride it. Give tiana her own ride and leave it as it stands.

  13. Alan

Another Disney blunder when will they stop driving fans away with their changes and woke attitudes stop pushing gender reversal and attraction changes from original consepts

    1. Zippity Bye Bye

Could you please point out what is ‘woke’ about Princess and the Frog?

Also, if you could direct us all to the gender ‘reversal’ portion of the film, that would also be great.

Basically, my dude, get some fresh air. Bad actors have told you that ‘woke’ is the end times. Ask them to explain what ‘woke’ is and why you should be afraid of it; you won’t get an answer.

  14. Team Splash Open

The retheme is going to be one that our children will love, something new. My only disappointment is that it will ve closed when we go and my granddaughter was too young to ride the last time we went. Selfish feelings only.

  15. Angry Soviet

How about instead of re-theming a ride that offends just a few for some unknown reason they redo Yesterday…err Tomorrow Land and bring it back to what it’s supposed to represent!
