His party, his rules! I had it happen to me 30 years ago with my daughter’s friend & I simply told her she would have to go back home & change into something more appropriate & in keeping with my family’s appearance or she could stay home. Then I asked my daughter to get something from her closet gor the girl to wear.
It’s important for teens to realize that they have a responsibility to respect themselves as well as their hosts. And, in my case, the girl left her home dressed appropriately but changed clothes so her parents didn’t know how she was dressed when she arrived at my house. When I explained my surprise at her choice of clothing, her parents, who I knew well, were appalled & furious.
wtf? there is NO situation where it’s ok for one set of parents to parent a kid that isn’t theirs. especially on clothing issues. it’s none of that families business how “charlotte” chose to dress. “my party my rules” LMAO
Um… misunderstanding who the Karen is here!
To clarify, Karen is someone who interfears and judges harshly in an area that isn’t their business. It’s not Karening to say don’t be that person. You can’t say “whatever Karen” if you’re the Karen!
Yes. Children should be raised by their parents of course. But children should be Instructed and disciplined (not physically) from neighbors and adults when needed. This mentality of its nobody else’s business is pretty much how each generation is becoming worse then the one before. If nobody stands up for the correct appropriate behaviors our children cannot learn what is acceptable behaviors for being in public.
This was none of his business. That’s her body and her parents let her leave the house that way, so they are obviously fine with it. It’s nobody’s business but the girls and her family’s.
Women and girls have been sexualized for far too long. We should be able to wear what we want where we want, just like most men and boys do.
If this had been a pool not a theme park, would it have mattered? Why is a thong more offensive than Granny panties as my generation called them? I do think one has to be aware of perception in some cases (professional dress) however I also condemn purity culture. Had she been “deliberately” sexualizing it herself ie hip grinding, blowing kisses or whatever, then one might say she was intentionally provoking a sexual reaction but if she’s laughing it off and having a good time I’d say she’s the opposite, confident in her own skin and uncaring in a good way about other people’s (particularly males) reactions. It’s always interesting to me that men go topless and yeah, we women do our fair share of sexualizing that too, and no guy has ever shamed themselves for that or for the fact they rather enjoy it. So why do we as women? It’s a pathetic double standard. If you must parent then I’d applaud the friend for her confidence and have an actual conversation about when and if it’s ever appropriate to police what women wear and if so when and how.
Men are not allowed to go topless in public places like stores, restaurants, etc. I have a high respect for Women. You all should respect your selves and want to protect your selves. May God bless you all.
This has definitely changed… Im not even that old 32, but everyone parented everyones kids back in the day… Sorry, if youre seeing a 15 year olds underwear, you seeing too much and they need to change. I have 2 daughters, 14 and 9, and while they choose their clothes I do make final decisions.
Well she is parading around looking like a wh*** for attention while embarrassing his family who is allowing her to go with them. So yea kinda. I would have told her she couldn’t go.
No situation? My Family trip. My Vehicle. My Daughter. I’m the adult and you are a child. End of story. Don’t like it … stay home and don’t come back. Or better yet … have your parents take you on their dime and time.
I agree, they should respect their host. However she likely did not see her outfit as being bad. His wife should have taken her and her daughter aside and explained that even though her outfit is cute, it isn’t appropriate for a theme park. Explain to her that getting on and of rides and such would show what’s underneath off. Then ask her to put on something more appropriate. As for it influencing his daughter, that’s up to how he parent’s mostly. There is more than one way they could have handled this sittuation. I’m sure the parent’s already know how she dresses. They likely bought the outfit. Not a great idea to call about an outfit.
I believe the dad was correct with his thoughts. However..I also believe it wasn’t/isn’t the father’s place to say anything to the childs parents. It would look better if the wife/mother do it. He wouldn’t want anyone tobthink he had improper thoughts. And, by the time you get to the park it’s a done deal. Too late..let it go.
It’s completely in the father’s right to require certain attire if the friend wants to join them. Do whatever on your own time, but if you want to hang out at the theme park with me and my children, dress appropriately. If they don’t want to, they can drive themselves
it’s NOT the father or mothers responsibility to talk to “charlottes” parents. what is and isn’t appropriate attire is up to the person wearing it. further more women shouldn’t have to dress a certain way to keep men from sexualizing them. that is the mens fault not the womens.
You are very naive to think that men will not sexualize a teen girl that flashes her bottom in a skimpy thong. Too bad so many young girls are being brought up without learning self respect. Very sad. I would have given “Charlotte” the choice to either change her clothes or not join my family at the theme park. Also there is a possibility her parents did NOT know how she was dressed. Many young girls change their clothes AFTER they leave their house. Parents do need to stick together. If that was my daughter I would want to know.
The parents could have taken a “safety” approach to a recommendation? Closed toed shoes, tshirts that contain no profanity or rude references or graphics, and clothing that covers “general areas”?? If the friend gets dress coded, then no one is going in to the park?
Wtf!! I didn’t come here to read your stupid article. I came here to see some hot young tiddies. So don’t post an article about inappropriate clothing unless you’re going to show us SAID ASS N’ TIDDIES!
I am a female 77 years old & clothes I once wore in high school would get a female sent home FAST! That being said, if a female is dressed half naked, butt hanging out of a skimpy skirt, shorts so short they look like under wear
boobs showing everything down to nipples, I think no body can blame men for looking!! If you look like you work the streets, if they dress showing their bodies like a stripper on the street it is hilarious to say men shouldn’t look!! That’s why they dress like that. I was a bartender at a strip club & liked the girl’s a lot, had no problem with totally naked from the waist up & a g-string like dental floss & funny how respectful the men customers were. Maybe she’ll talk to her friend and make her understand that you don’t have to expose the merchandise to catch the attention. Good luck
Damn right they are. they provide a much better view and eye candy than staring at my wife whose boobs are now down around her knees when she removes her bra. Everyone one needs a little pick me up during the day! : )
If she was his guest and he was responsible for her, yes, he could have said something. I can’t think of anything good coming from a crowd being able to see a 15 year old girl’s thong underwear.
Ever hear of time & place. Theme park? Pants, shorts or if short skirts, shorts beneath them. Why deliberately attract attention? It’s a family oriented theme park, not a night club. Plus she’s 15, still a child herself, not 18 or 20. Even regardless of age, who would want their young children seeing her arse hanging out like that? I’m a female & Mother & I’d be embarrassed to be seen with her for fear people would think that she’s my daughter & I’m okay with her clothing choices. I’d politely ask her to change & if she wasn’t willing, have my child invite another friend. End of story. If she’s that attention starved, maybe there’s more than meets the eye. Both of my daughter’s friends knew that I had a dress code at my house. Shirts had to have sleeves & nothing could be hanging out of their shorts. All their friends hung out at our house most of the time & they rarely where at the friends homes. I think they liked that we had ground rules at our house when there weren’t set rules at their homes.
Birds of a feather.

I’m not too embarrassed to admit it has happened to me! All the right parts in all the right places with just the kind of contours I find most appealing……… only to look up and say “Oh crap!”
So let’s not pretend a boy or man…….. (or even an old man!)……… who notices these things is automatically a “perv” —–not when our biology says he’s SUPPOSED TO notice these things!
The key is whether he CONTINUES to check her out, once he REALIZES how young she is! (I immediately avert my gaze…….. once I know. And yeah, I feel a little creepy about it! Lol)
But if something unexpectedly gets exposed like her thong’d buttocks? …….. Yeah, I’m still gonna notice! Because biology says I oughta! Lol (No, not going to gawk……… but, yeah, I’m gonna to look!)
Lastly, for anyone who thinks “15” is “just a kid”……….. I’ll remind you, this is a CULTURAL viewpoint, not a biological one! Biology says she’s “ready” upon reaching puberty. Now, I think our culture and laws have it right, for the most part. But anyone who thinks she should not be admired sexually because she’s “just 15″…….. well, they’re expressing the boundaries of our CULTURE……. while ignoring the fact that nature has already turned her into something that should be considered sexually appealing!
One need not be a “perv” to find a 15 year old sexually attractive. Of course, if they then try to do something about it……… well, that’s a whole different thing!
I think he should get his nose out of other people’s business! The way HE’S describing the young lady is inappropriate, and I doubt the outfit was even as extreme as he was describing. Leave her alone, all teenagers dress a bit skimpy, have done for generations
Folks remember the “Mini Skirt “ in the 60’s. That caused a lot of “ Yes or No’s” with the public. Some teenage girls wore them, it was their choice. Some parents wouldn’t allow their daughters to wear them others did. You might object but if she made it through the gate and passed Disney’s standards so be it. Remember if you don’t like someone’s appearance YOU CAN LOOK THE OTHER WAY !!!!
What he should have done is sent her to his daughters room for a pair of shorts or leggings shorts and if they are not the same size then they should stop back at her house so she can change and just tell her that outfit is inappropriate.

I think he should get his nose out of other people’s business! The way HE’S describing the young lady is inappropriate, and I doubt the outfit was even as extreme as he was describing. Leave her alone, all teenagers dress a bit skimpy, have done for generations
Phillip
