My family has gone to WDW almost every year. I was there even for the grand opening!
It was a place that ‘common working folks’ could feel special with free transportation from the airport, early access to parks, nice room amenities, etc ..
Our family would judge all other buisnesses compared to the hospitality of WDW.
But with the obvious greed demonstrated by the new CEO, I am really considering if I want to contribute my hard earned money to keep going.
They are making it too expensive for most families to afford.
And this will affect their future.
You won’t have rabid Disney fans if they never experienced it!
I still have the soap bar from our first trip to DW from 20 yrs ago. It was so cute!! Sad that others might not enjoy it. But I understand to save on plastic and etc….
It’s sad they are cutting everything. We are going next month but we all agreed they are getting to expensive for middle class families to go. They are no longer a unique theme park, we can go to Universal or Dollywood for the same experiences. Next thing they’ll be charging for Skyliner and buses.
BYOB will be next. It wouldn’t surprise me. After going to Disney for so many years, this is just one more thing that they can take away from you. Hopefully, you will get some brains back again and do what is right. with all the money you are raking in these day. Bring back the old Disney that everyone loved. 24 years of visiting every year has ended for us. We just can’t see scheduling our days on vacation and pay more and more. New people, talk to seasoned people, see what it really used to be like. It was wonderful and didn’t break your budget.
We have been going to WDW for close to 50 years and never regretted the costs. We were even cast members for a brief span and loved it. But the Soap Issue may be the moment that wakes up Disney or ruins it. Ther bottom line is not how Disney got to where it is. It was the long lines to get in, the long lines at Peter Pan, the long lines at Be Our Guest. People wanted to be there.
I’m sure who ever bids the highest will win.
There are some big players in the soap world.
I wonder how such a small company got disney contract anyways
The first premise of the article – since chapek took over. Ahhhhh……many of us are not so STUPID to know that these changes started under Iger and were put on steroids. (gender neutral steroids of course). I rejoiced the day Eisner resigned – he had lost interest and didn’t care. Wow do I regret that position. Iger and Chapek are the two worst pukes ever. Balance sheets ARE NOT everything.
WDW has changed so much, we understand if H2O is going out of business, but who’s fault is it. The products are not cheap. And the CEO Chapek is a greedy woke person. The parks have changed, prices gone up, people acting like fools fighting, stealing. It is no longer the magical place created by Walt. And the same goes for the movies, horrible stupid stories, not interesting Family orinated Disney style.
I have always loved and associated H2O products with Disney. The smell brings back nostalgic memories for me, so I’m saddened this business is ending. Unfortunately for all of us, with Paycheck in charge, we can expect Motel 6 soap, and I’m sure even then he’ll find a way to charge us for it too.
I know when I was at All-Stars Movies in December 2019 they did not have individual shampoos. They had the dispenser on the wall in the shower. I can’t remember about the soap but it must mean it was not memorable.
We were there in 2018 and 2019. In 2018. they still provided the individual shampoos and switched to mounted bottles in 2019. It was H2O+ in the mounted bottles too.
Yes, we brought empty containers and on our last day, pumped the remainder of the body wash into our empty containers. For the cost of the room and the low quality of the entire experience, you had better believe we were getting our money’s worth! LOL!
We have been lifelong passholders (literally) and we are using our passes for one more already planned vacation and will be taking our business elsewhere. Magic experiences is what set Disney apart from the rest and it’s just not there anymore. I keep going looking for it but I can’t find it anymore. We will just have fun somewhere else until (hopefully) someone takes over who goes back to the magic.
Wow that is just so tacky!!! If you can afford to go to Disney you could afford shampoo and body wash wali has both for less then $1.00. you cheap ass.
I had to grow to like the H2O smell but I did associate it with Disney. Last year at AKL they had the bottles in the shower they refilled. Aulani this year had the little individual bottles and I’m so glad I grabbed a stash. I do like being provided soap and lotion it’s one less thing I have to pack and if you have a carry on only it’s even better.
Ugh🤢🤢🤢🤢 knowing how crazy people have gotten. I would be concerned of “added” ingredients that h2O never put in.🤮🤮🤮 I always bring my own soap just in case there are not sealed individual toiletries .
The containers on the shower wall are locked in with a bracket so you have to unlock it to take off the lid to “add ingredients”. Not very likely to do.
You can easily find the key to unlock the wall mounts on the internet if you take a few minutes to search for them. It isn’t hard to imagine that people get a hold of these and then mess around with the soap dispensers.
Never would’ve guessed I’d find someone I personally know on this forum, and I agree with this assessment, for most businesses, honestly. Raised rates, more restrictions, and lower quality in too many areas. Not sustainable, I would say, in the long run. At the very least, I will not give in to supporting these types of businesses.
Breaking news John; even the cheapest of hotels provide soap. It’s not free and is included in the price of the room. If you desire a special soap bring it with you but if not, there is no reason to pay for it twice. Well unless you’re talking about Disney resort parking.
It’s just soap, not gold. You bring a toothbrush, maybe your bar of soap you choose and shampoo, like choosing to go there to pay for parking. People make such big things out of nothing important, lol. It’s soap.
Maybe they could take this opportunity to innovate and be one of the first major hospitality organizations to switch to bar shampoo and conditioner without plastics/microplastics in the formula and packaging. Disney used to try to be on the cutting edge when it came to futurism and sustainability, and there are so many opportunities now for them to take up that mantle again and show everyone that it can be done well, without sacrificing quality (could we be a part of pioneering something like rice straws instead of immediately-collapsing-into-mush paper straws, Mickey?).
It could make mousekeeping simpler, and there are some good Florida-based soap makers that would almost certainly jump at the chance to make a travel-sized product with an exclusive scent for them.
My curly hair has been doing so well in the Florida humidity since I switched, and it feels good knowing I’m not hurting the planet when I shower.
Most shampoos and conditioners contain harmful chemicals that aren’t exactly great for our Florida aquifers, though–many of them actually have plastics and plastic/oil byproducts IN them! I believe H20+ had dimethicone and acrylate incredients (in addition to sulfates) when I checked, but I don’t have any on me now to confirm.
It’s so tough to navigate how to reduce plastic when it seems to be in EVERYTHING–and frequently with sneaky names.
Disney could make a big difference and expose millions of guests to a new way to wash that’s safer for them and the environment.
This is worrisome, considering all of the other lower-quality changes. Since Basin sells Disney-themed products only at Disney, I wonder if it will enter a contract to provide future products.
It is going to be Price Right brand at the values, Walmart brand at the moderates, and something like Ivory at the deluxe. DVC will have the honor of providing their own. Either that or Cheepak will decide people are going to sweat and stink anyhow somthey don’t need soap.
I could care less what they do with their soap line since I would never stay at a Disney hotel any longer. Since paid parking was implemented to pad the pockets even further of Disney(as if the resort fees aren’t outrageous enough) we have chosen to stay outside the Disney parks. Better accommodations and far less money. Disney still doesn’t get it that Bob Paycheck has ruined the Disney experience. Disney will never be the same with incompetent CEO’s running the show.
Disney has charged for parking at the hotels in WDW for several years, even going back to pre covid days. Everyone needs to pay if you have a car. Conversely you could also have the problem we did which was to arrive at our resort by Uber and still get charged the daily parking fee even though we didn’t have a car with us. We had to argue with the front desk on our last day about that to get it removed from the bill. I wonder how many people never look at their itemized receipt and get charged as well even though they didn’t drive in either.
In the age of Covid and in the name of safety, I will not use the large, wall mounted containers of stuff. For one thing, who knows if they were tampered with. I mean people tamper with all sorts of things. And, number 2, there is no ingredient list. I would like to know what I am using on my body. I understand it might not be green. But how about recyclable containers or something. It just doesn’t seem safe and sanitary.
They won’t have separate themed shampoos for the different resorts. The cost of the different lines and labels is not in line with current Disney trends. I don’t like the wall mounted units, as it feels like they think we’re all kleptos. And it’s not hygienic. I almost don’t mind what they bring back, I’d be ok with Dove. But I wish they’d go back to the original individual packaging. If they want to be cheapskates, they could limit the quantity by guests and days.
Comments for Disney’s Soap Replacement Is a “Litmus Test” For Theme Park’s Future

What does Super 8 use? It will provably be a cheaper version.
Savannah
Probably Motel 5 1/2. They won’t splurge for Motel 6.

Totally agree with you. Chapek has snuffed out all the Disney magic that Walt created. He needs to go NOW

You do know that the soap company is going out of business? Disney does NOT make the soap. Let it go.

They will probably charge value and moderate resort people extra for soap but the deluxe resorts and vacation clubbers will get soap for free.
