Pin Trading takes up so much time at WDW, you miss out on a lot of the vacation magic there is. There is more than just pins…more than just popcorn buckets…more than just spring or fall concerts at Epcot….
At WDW Pin Traders, in the marketplace(DisneySprings area), there were “pin traders aka ” pin sharks” with binders and suitcases full of pins, standing at the tables. So many problems occurred Disney took away the tables, and banned pin traders from the Pin Traders shop because they were using unfair tactics to gain special edition pins and other pin releases…
Even local pin trader clubs were nothing more than pin sharks, who if you did not have any worthwhile pins to trade, you were shunned or dismissed by the club.
To be fair, autographs, and pressed pennies take up as much time as pin trading do. Sure these are fun experieces but in moderation, balance with the whole magic trip experience.
As in any hobby there are people and groups who just clammer to make it untolerable and miserable towards others.
Advice:
Unless you can really tell.if a pin is legit, do not trade one of yours for one on the board. Purchase your pins from WDW stores, in the parks, resorts or marketplace, and not from individuals, ebay, craigslist, or other market places on the internet.
Just like an autograph from a celebrity…The only way to know it is authentic is if you received it yourself.
Pin trading can be fun. I don’t trade all that much, I’m more of a collector and I enjoy my collection.
There have been many times when I’ve gone into the park (DL or DCA) and there will be numerous tables at the quick service restaurants taken up by people with books of pins splayed out. It can be a pain when someone is looking for a place to eat for just sit down for awhile.
Like the person who commented in the article, I once looked at the pin traders and they were rude just like that. I have been a cast member as well and have never met an avid hoarding pin trader who is kind to anyone.
