JetBlue is currently at 50 outbound flights a day down from the 70 a day before the pandemic. With the merger of Spirit JetBlue will see that number go to 140 outbound flight per day.
No, Spirit walked away. If Frontier did Spirit wouldn’t be on the hook to pay $25 million as a “break up fee” to Frontier, and they wouldn’t have announced the JetBlue deal the next day–less than 24 hours after Spirit’s shareholders voted against the Frontier deal.
Like the millenial chick that wrote this sensational article. She clearly doesn’t understand anything about how boards and shareholders work in corporations.
Given MCO isn’t a true hub, damage should be somewhat minimal. It’s when a hub’s primary airline merges that you see real damage. The landscape is littered with empty concourses that are victim to an airline shutting a hub.
Sounds like another excuse to raise rates! Spirit, the absolute worst airline service airline, has been responsible for slowly forcing all others into smaller bag sizes and weight sizes because they always are the first to lower the standards and the (mostly) rest of them followed suit and you would get clipped at the airline check-in with overcharges.smaller seat, comfort, and no adjustables on seats followed. The industry has been allowed to change because govt regulation had been slowly in favor of profits therefore reduced quality. This merger is merely another attempt! Jet blue is much better service ,with less add-ons better freebies!,more comfortable planes ,do why would they really want to combine with spirit. I fly a lot, sometimes I have no choice but to fly spirit. govt regulators (ha) are the problem.
Do you realize this article was posted AFTER JetBlue bought Spirit for almost $4 billion? The acquisition occured a couple of days before 29 July 2022.
There is no acquisition. There may be one if the merger is approved by the Department of Justice. The earliest it would likely be fully implemented would be early 2024.
I used to fly to Newark a lot from MCO. A little bad weather in NJ and Jet Blue flights would delay for hours while United would be leaving nearly on time. Jet Blue service is no prize. Spirit travelers won’t even notice a difference..
This article seems to associate the failed/planned merger with negatively impacting MCO. But that is not the only airport that these airlines service. I get you have to find a Disney connection in some way, but MCO shouldn’t be the focus.
I like Jetblue and fly with them occasionally and am disappointed they even put in an offer for Spirit. I’m hoping that Jetblue pulls Spirit up to their standards rather than lowering them. I was also hoping that with Frontier and Spirit getting together I would only have to avoid one bad airline in the future now I doubt that Jetblue will remain the half decent option that they are now.
Perhaps more research should be done before writing articles. Like everyone has said, Spirit shareholders agreed to the JetBlue offer. Also, a quick search will tell you the C terminal opens Sept 19th with international carriers first followed by JBU about 2 weeks later. But that’s okay. We’ll cleanup your lazy article.
I had avoided Spirit due to their standard 28 inch seat pitch, but recently I found out about Spirit’s “Big Seat” option. Basically a seat similar in size to the old 2-2 first class seats in a B707, B727, B737, or DC8. Sadly Jet Blue has indicated that all of Spirit’s seating will be replaced with Jet Blue like 3-3 seating. Supposedly that means longer seat pitch than Spirit’s standard 28 inch, but nothing similar to Spirit’s “Big Seat”.
As a first time Frontier customer, I arrived at MCO and my only piece of luggage arrived with a completely busted handle, that couldn’t be used. Followed onstructions given to request assistance and after several calls and emails, they didn’t want to pay to fix or replace it. They had determined it was due to “wear and tear”. I had used that bag less than 5 times so I don’t know how wear and tear factors in. Simply put, useless baggage handlers and an airline that simply doesn’t care about their customers. Even with a merger, I woukd never fly that airline again.
Comments for Massive Airline Merger Falls Through, Leaves Orlando Airport as Collateral Damage

I have found MCO to have declined in service, much more traffic now than before. I hope Terminal C alleviates that.
YoMa
Wrong. Frontier didn’t walk away. Spirit shareholders weren’t interested, becky.

Who cares. But I will predict that Orlando will suffer due to reduced visitors to woke Disney anyway.

The author needs to get their facts straight. Frontier did not walk away, the Spirit shareholders voted against the merger with Frontier.

When someone rejects your last and final offer you walk away.

True. This article implies that MCO is damaged by this. That doesn’t appear to be the case.
Annie
True!
