I was on the Norwegian Sun when it hit the iceberg. The whole boat shuttered and I lost my balance. I also got good video that I took off my starboard balcony right after we hit the ice. I don’t understand with modern technology with sophisticated sonar that this happen. Furthermore, Norwegian put in their statement that there was dense fog but passenger videos prove otherwise. Additionally, after the boat hit the iceberg, it took
Norwegian 24 hours before the captain talked to the passengers about the incident. I realize they don’t want to cause panic, but some form of communication would have have sufficed.
Glad you’re alright. Sounds like it wasn’t much for damage, but I’m sure still scary. I was just on a Princess cruise in Alaska a few weeks ago and we did go through some ice fields. I did wonder if our ship hit one of the larger bergs would it do any kind of damage? Well, I guess my question was answered a couple of weeks later. Do I think it would end up in a Titanic situation? I highly doubt it, but thankfully they have enough lifeboats now.
I’ve seen video footage and the size absolutely exceeded what was described by the company. Lisa’s firsthand account makes it all the more disturbing. Climate change will make these events more frequent and devastating and this makes it clear that passenger safety is not prioritized appropriately.
