  1. Before this article I couldn’t think of one Mickey Rourke movie. I have never seen him do anything even remotely interesting. It’s kind of sad when people have to tear down others to make themselves seem relevant.

While the comment seems harsh he isn’t far off the mark. He hasn’t really changed in years and repeated plays the same role. But I would say he has relevance in the movie industry.

    2. Debbie

Tom has not been doing Top Gun for 35 years… get your facts straight Mickey. And like an earlier comment, I can’t even remember anything notable coming from you. It’s all just jealousy

      1. Josue

        Absolutely

      2. Yonah

He didn’t say Tom Cruise did Top Gun for 35 years, he said he’s done the same type of movies, all action, no drama, maybe a comedy or two, but he hasn’t stretched who he could be, when the name Tom Cruise is mentioned everyone’s first thought is either Top Gun, or Mission Impossible, just a fact.

        1. Kenley

Are we just going to ignore the fact that many of his movies are part of the same series and he plays the same character? It’s one thing if you play a similar, but different, character in every unique movie, but that’s absolutely not the case because Cruise has done it all.

          1. Mark L Sheldon

No he plays the same guy in every movie

      3. Bill

Then you haven’t been looking. Wrestler. Angel Heart… Unless you just like dragging your knuckles which is okay.

        1. Tom

There are no sequels if people aren’t demanding them and the previous one wasn’t a huge success. I don’t know any series of movies where Rourke was the franchise actor in. The reason there are 6 Mission Impossibles with Cruise is because he’s in demand and people want to see more of that character because he was so good in the last 5. 5 sequels is quite an accomplishment. To keep an audience interested in the same character for that many sequels is crazy. Mackey cannot give Cruise a compliment because that’s his character and he knows none of his characters has never captivated his audience enough to have one sequel much less 5. The fact he’s trying to portray himself as an acting purist is a joke. He played some great roles in the 80’s and 90’s and I am happy he’s recovered from his drug addiction it’s not easy at all but you would think he would return to the industry with some humility instead of downing every actor he’s asked about. He got his face mangled by boxers and plastic surgeons now he looks like the elephant man with a soccer mom haircut. If anyone should be showing some humility after being accepted back into the industry by fans it should be Mickey.

      4. Lisa

He has been doing Mission Impossible for at least 20 years so he not wrong in that front. And he doesn’t have great range as an actor.

      5. Elise

Totally agree .The only movie I saw Mickey in was Iron Man 2 and he sucked .So grow up Mickey and get a life

        1. Lance

So jerry macguire is not an action movie. Rourke is idiot. So Cruise makes movies people like so does the Rock. Stop have plastic surgery Rourke and shut you pie hole

    3. Rob

If you don’t know a Rourke film, I would assume you don’t watch real films. He’s absolutely right; Cruise plays the same thing over and over again.

      1. Kenley

Most of the work he has done over the last few decades has been on the same series in which he plays the same exact character… But he has branched out and done different genres with completely different characters. Rourke is just jealous that he hasn’t landed anything such as that.

    4. Dee

I’ve watched his several movies during his younger days and a good – looking one, I can’t say he’s one of the best, but Tom Cruise already cemented his stature in the movie industry, comparing to those that Mickey mentioned, I don’t think he should compare Tom Cruise to these Hollywood actors, although he is irrelevant to his world is up to him, but in the showbiz world, he remains a superstar then and now.

      1. Dee

Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Christopher Walken and so many great actors, Tom Hanks, sidney and Poitier and so on and so forth these are Top notch actors. Tom Cruise has his own image marked…

    5. Kenn

What would you expect of a Putin fanboi ?

  2. Not a sheep

Mickey who? This never was is just that.

  3. Mickey always marched to the beat of his own drummer. He’s a great actor. But Tom’s action movies make my heart rush, always anticipate his next movie!

    1. Kevin

I haven’t seen all of Rourkes work but of the different roles I watched he is always playing some kind of tough guy…I have seen many different cruise movies …romantic comedies…lawyer films…stand alone films like the last samurai and many others…Rourke you need to get out of the house more often…lol

      1. Josue

        Exactly

    2. Mark L Sheldon

No he plays the same guy in every movie

  4. Goheidigo

Interview With A Vampire is the only Cruise movie that is interesting. All the rest are the exact same movie. And I refuse to support actors who are proud of being an *sshole in real life.

  5. Richard hernandez

Mickey is absolutely right. The actors he mentioned were actors. Not stuntmen. Great actors at that, they drew you in with a performance.

    1. John

Tom Cruise can act. He was nominated for and should have received imo an academy award for his role in movie “Magnolia” . He has exhibited a wide range of acting skills in many of his movies. He may be underated to some because he makes it look easy. I respect Mickey Rourke and his body of work also He was especially good in ” The Wrestler”.

      1. Anonymous42069

He also did a phenomenal job as David Aames in Vanilla Sky (2001). That one is a great movie.

        1. Mark L Sheldon

          Same carictore

  6. James

Mickey Rourke hasn’t done anything worthwhile in years and is relegated to pretty much straight to video movies. This fool would jump at the chance to have a career like Cruise has had. Maybe he should fix his face, that he screwed up, first.

    1. Melissa

      I agree with you.

    2. Mark Sheldon

Bs just not what a tiny booer would watch cruse is cringy

  7. B

I love how he tries to say that Pacino, Walken, and DeNiro really tried to branch out as actors when they absolutely played the same character nearly their entire career. They’re all amazing actors, but I’d never really say they worked outside of their comfort zone. Tom Cruise is an amazing actor. Jealousy is a wicked thing, Mickey. Don’t hate on someone who didn’t piss away their career early.

  8. Mick who?

    1. Bill

Magnolia was definitely watchable and he was good. But it’s a crime what he did in Rain Man. He just didn’t have the depth in him.

      1. Me

U serious? He was great in that movie.

        1. RH

I totally agree! Don’t be a hater, Mickey

    2. HR

Hey Mick ” A Few Good Men” says it all.

  9. Justin Greenbank

Both are relevant. Mickey is a legend, but far from innocent. Hence, Expendables, Domino, Iron Man 2, etc. Tom was type casted in the 80s, but crossed over with Rain Man. Granted he’s all about action now. But he has proved himself a relevant actor, and not just a pretty face. He’s worked with Stone, Scorsese, Speilberg, Reiner, Crowe, and of course Kubrick. If you don’t like him. Don’t watch him. But very few actors are innocent in the sell out dept.

  10. Marina

Cruise got an Oscar nominations for Born on the Fourth of July.

    1. DS

Dude chill out, all that damage from plastic surgery sure did nothing to remove the jealousy streak out of you. All it did was ruin your career. While Tom Cruise may not appeal to some his career sure out lasted yours!

    2. Mark L Sheldon

      sucked i hated it

  11. Me

Since Mickey has spent the past decade challenging Steven Seagal for the most crappy straight to garbage can action flicks, maybe saying Cruise is “irrelevant” in his world is actually a compliment.

    1. I get that not everyone likes Tom Cruise, but Mickey Rourke just comes off as jealous and disgruntled. Funny he said Cruise was irrelevant, but in actuality, it’s Rourke who is irrelevant. I forgot he even existed, it’s like he disappeared from Hollywood or something. Also funny how he says Al Pacino and Robert De Niro are superior actors even though they’re washed up actors too like him. Robert De Niro and Al Pacino haven’t done anything noteworthy in a long time, especially Pacino. Tom Cruise is an amazing actor. Rourke just sounds salty he hasn’t been in anything memorable for a long time.

  12. Caitlyn

In my opinion Tom Cruise just isn’t that good of an actor, while I haven’t seen him in much he just seems like a glorified stunt man to me which is why I was glad he wasn’t in multiverse of madness

  13. Melissa

I think he got one for Rain Man as well.

    1. Mark L Sheldon

      Nope

  14. Glad Rourke mentioned Ray Winstone, a long-time favorite of mine. He’s done a very broad range of roles.

  15. CJ

Tom Cruise has attached himself to more than one box office franchise (and gained enough confidence from the Studios to become Executive Producer when there are sequels). Cinemas look to Tom Cruise as their box office gold mine.

Not every Tom Cruise film is a box office extravaganza (oy vey that Mummy remake was awful and it tanked!) Feel free to visit IMDB and see Tom Cruise’s credits going back to 1981 (you will find plenty of great films and you will find some stinkers – happens to everyone!)

Mickey Rourke is just as talented, he just hasn’t starred in back-to-back box office extravaganzas (that’s either by choice? poor Managers not looking after their client? or he’s considered too difficult to work with by directors!) Feel free to visit IMDB and see what Mickey Rourke has starred in going back to 1979, it’s twice as many films as Tom Cruise – but decide for yourself how many of them are great and how many of them are stinkers!)

    1. Katie

Really he just jealous because he always been the bridesmaid never the bride . 😂

      1. Mark L Sheldon

        Bs

  16. John Pope

Roark was a talented actor. Unfortunately he chose to modify his appearance in a way most folks find unappealing. This greatly restricts the type of characters he can play. He could have been a contender, he could have been somebody, instead of a bum, which is what he is. Tom has nothing to worry about.

  17. Kimber Knutson

I love Mickey Rourke. He is always excellent and always 100% authentic. My favorite Tom Cruise performance is his role in Tropic Thunder. He is brilliant in that role, over the top in just the right way. The rest of his movies that I have seen, I don’t care for that much. In terms of swagger bravado, I am an RDJ girl. : )

  18. Julio

1.2 billion dollars seems to indicate otherwise. I like Tom Cruise and I like his movies. Mickey Rourke is the epitome of irrelevant. What has he done of note? He is a great actor…when he’s not acting like a loon.

  19. Kenny

He is absolutely right he just plays a cooler version of himself in every movie he’s in. Much like iced tea ice cube and Vin Diesel they play the exact same character in every movie they’re in. That’s not acting.

  20. Erlen

Tom Cruise is closet case gay guy which is well known in the movie industry. He does these replica action movies to show he is “straight”.

    1. Tom

      Sniff sniff…I smell jealousy.

  21. Geoffrey Swenson

Mickey Rourke hit it spot on. I have seen a couple of Tom Cruise movies where the part he plays is at least supported by an interesting plot.

But most of his recent movies just seem to be more over the top vehicles for Tom to be the huge star.

In reality the person that created the basis for the Top Gun movies got elected to Congress and proceeded to be so incredibly corrupt he went to jail over it. All of Tom’s movies have a huge load of BS, it’s all military industrial complex propaganda.

  22. Falco

    Yes

  23. Mark L Sheldon

the only movie i like to cruise in was interview with a vampire about his character wasn’t even that good the rest of the movie was better than him

  24. Javy

    Mickey who?

  25. Iceman

All of Mickey Rourke’s movies don’t add up to Mavericks box office numbers.

  26. Tom

Mickey Rourke? Didn’t he make a used car commercial or something?

  27. Bob

Born on the 4th of July.
    A Few Good Men.
    The Last Samurai.
    The Firm.
    Jerry Maguire.

He can act better than Mickey Rourke!
