Considering hotel rooms were around $10 a night at that time on average and about $25 on the extremely high end, it just shows Disney hotels were ALWAYS way higher than others.
I went to Disney in October of last year , we figured 2000. Dollars a person and we were spot on , three kids under the age of 9 . Pretty pricey to say the least.
Disney is way over priced, over crowded and over built up!! It’s such a shame compared to what it used to be. The crowds are rude and disrespectful. They need less people going in so more can be enjoyed. I’ve been a club member for years and have been there over 45 times something needs to be done!! This is not the magical place Walt dreamed of.
The reservation system is to control crowds. And your comment reeks that only a privileged few should ever see the parks. That is not Walt’s vision. It was to be a place for everyone to enjoy with their families.
Walt Disney would not approve of the directions the parks are heading. With the exuberant prices and reduction of making it be easy to get to your resorts from the airport , doing away with the Magical Disney Express for free, charging for parking for those who drive, the constant fights in the parks, making it harder for cast members to visit the parks , not guaranteeing park entrance when you stay at the resorts which have totally increased, the smaller portions when ordering food , and letting Mr. Bob ruin the mission statement of the company by concentrating only on profit and not the reason why Walt began this magical place.
No Walt would not have approved.. But he’s gone and greed takes over, much greenbacks to run a Disney Park in this day, The insurance alone has to be staggering. just have to save a month’s pay to go.
Maybe I missed the name of the hotel but in 2000 I spent $55 a night for the All Star Resort. Sure it wasn’t the nicest they had to offer but it was a great deal. We spent five days there and even though $5,000 was a lot to spend on a vacation for a single mom of three with no child support and a waitress’s income it was worth every penny. The memory of that trip is still with all of us unlike anything we would have used the money to purchase. I have been a huge fan of Disney World since 12 years old. One of the most jaded people I know went last year for her first time. She was 58 at the time and I expected to hear criticism but instead she said that tears ran down her face when Tinkerbell flew around the castle to When You Wish Upon a Star. She said she cried like a baby and didn’t care who saw it. Now that’s magic.
Back in ’78 I was stationed at Camp Pendelton when they military appreciation and it wasn’t some little 10% off or whatever they do now, it was FREE! All we had to do was show our ID card. And the park was closed to just the military and dependents.
Do I think Disney vacations have become too expensive?
As a Disney stockholder who hasn’t been on a Disney property in decades, I think not. Raise prices to the sky, and keep those stock dividends flowing. Thank you, loyal Disney fans.
My first trip there was 3 weeks after it opened in 1955. I was 2 weeks old, my 13 year old sister wanted to go!! Living 35 miles away then and now it has been fun to attend for the last 67 years. But the people going there really are not the same!
I would give anything to go back to the ’50s or ’60s when people like Mark Sheldon above were not there!!!
People like him are the problem!
Yes it is over crowded, and very expensive now! I wish they had 1 day a year where it was only open to people over 60 that have lived within 100 miles of Disneyland their entire life! Then it would be calmer and less crowded !!!

It’s not $132. The person had to put a one night deposit of $58 down first. It’s really $190. Still much cheaper that today.
Mark Sheldon

We are talking Disneyland not Disneyworld. Get your story straight.

According to the inflation calculator, we’re look at about 598.00 for the stay, still way below what is charged today.
