Disney has also been forcing inexperienced, vulnerable students to work the Galactic Star Cruiser at long shifts and crazy schedules. In 2 days I heard crew members say, “I don’t want to loose my job.” at least 3 times.

It’s funny cuz I just went to Taco Bell and like ALL THE WORKERS said they have two Fukks about their jobs. Go figure.

Hi, yeah that’s my photo you’re using as your thumbnail. Could you please change that?

They don’t read the comments, try email.

Aww, you look completely the opposite of what this website is trying to portray! Very happy and joyful. But yeah, this website don’t care, they’re only in the business of making Disney look like the “big bad corporation”, even if they use your pictures without permission. Good luck 👍

This account of the college program is not what 99.9% of the students ever deal with. In addition there are employment laws in place to protect you from much of what was said and find most of it highly unbelievable as I did two internships on the college program and never had this type of experience or anyone I know.

Remember this the next time you hear about how progressive they are and how great it is they are meddling in democracy.

Had a similar experience in 2004, working in the German Pavilion!Crazy hours, long shifts, mobbing coworkers, unfair and cruel managers and when u sick they terminate your visa and send you back to Europe within 24 hours on your own expenses.
Nearly never had the time to visit the parks or make international friends.

Me too! Disney made me leave all my family in the empty bus that we were living in and REFUSED to accommodate an are in their parking lot for the bus! Greedy overlord company against families! And they threatened to have my whole family taken away from me and sold to Russia!!

College students are cheap labor, no benefits, they live in company apartments that they charge for so most only have around 80 bucks left for food so parents have to supplement their income. Disney brought back huge numbers of college students because they are so short staffed with regular Cast Members. It does look good on a resume but that’s about all it is worth.

My daughter is currently participating in her 3rd College Program and has nothing but good things to say about it. Long hours? Sure, especially around the holidays. The schedule complained about in the article is not the norm, but can happen. But they also have the ability to trade shifts to get extra days off, or shorter workdays. Does Disney deduct rent from their paychecks? Yes. But she’s never been left with only $85.00 to live on. They’re guaranteed a minimum number of hours to work per week and can always pick up additional shifts. Everyone has their own opinion and experience, but the author also fails to mention what a great thing DCP is to have on your resume, the lasting friendships made, or all the perks of the program (friendships made with people around the country and world, free park admission, free tickets earned for friends and family, behind the scenes tours, trips and activities in the area, etc.). It’s easy to complain about a perceived negative experience, but go talk to the kids in the program who are heartbroken when their program is over, or love it so much they apply to become permanent Cast Members at the end of their program.

    1. Excellent commentary!

I’ve lived 20 minutes from Disneyland almost my whole life. Even in high school we heard the stories of how working there was not the dream you would think. Then I had college friends who did work there–they had some fun but were especially disappointed in the managers and the scheduling. This was a while ago. Most of the perks they got–parties, free tickets, canoe races, etc., are long gone. But they did it for the resume, and in comparison to other places then it paid ok. I have read that the resume value is less now–people may not realize it but the training they got then is all gone, the expectations are much lower, the pay too, and businesses know that. Most people feel it affects the guest experience there a lot when the “cast members” are not happy there anymore. It’s such a shame.

  8. As Administrator of the Disney College Program Parents Group – DCP Parents, some of these complaints are familiar to us, as they were made to our group by parent members. Surprisingly, when other members’ kids talked to the CPs in question, they were fine about their roles and tasks. Go figure. Medical Accommodations are often blamed yet, by law, an employer only has to provide a “reasonable” accommodation. We did have one CP with severe gluten allergies who was reassigned from making pizzas when the Medical Accommodation was noted. Oh, and it’s not “greatful” but “grateful.”

Why have college people work 17 hours straight or for that many days in a row, then? That would wipe a person out, I’m sure. How nice of you to snidely correct someone’s spelling error, by the way. I take it you’re an overlord by your title. 👍

Gotta love this joke of a website, can’t find any real news stories so they steal anecdotes off of Reddit and rile people up. This is not how you do this.

Oh, it’s what they’ve been doing for a while now. To the point where I’m shocked they haven’t been sued yet.

  11. Your mom

Let’s be fair and say anyone working for Disney clearly already has a disability.

    1. Hi!

And YOUR mom gives free head on the corner, so that’s no better. Doubt YOU work either, MAGAT Dumpist.
