Jess Colostomy, I hope you don’t consider yourself to be a writer.

Its amazing how this story just so happily ended up on toc tic or what ever social media outlet was available.

I don’t knoooowww, but it kind of seems like this lady felt a bit entitled. Such a weird article. And the title that includes ‘purposefully shut guest’s power off ‘ made it seem like the hotel had a problem with the guest, and since I’m all for drama, I clicked. Such a disappointment, honestly. 0/10 would recommend this article.

This was a truly fascinating and worthwhile read *eyeroll*

Happened to my family about 16 years ago. My wife was on CPAP and they played same card that we were told. When I got thru with them my stay was free and got enough to move to another hotel ( cheaper and nicer ) . We stayed extra days on the refund . Wilderness didn’t give up that money easily. Persistence on my part , payed off.

    1. Good for you. SHAME on those people!!!

      1. Don

        Get over it, Karen.
It’s Florida- we lose power several times a month. Ever heard of a battery backup?

        1. Ryan

What does Karen have to do with this? I never had a power outage in a room. Stop being a jerk to others. People are sick of this crap.

        2. Brandon

I don’t know where the heck you live but I live in South Florida (Hurricane Row) and I never have power outages. Occasionally I’ll get a flicker every few months but never an outage.

  4. Jane

Power less? Ever? Completely unheard of! Truly shocking. 🙄

All I can say is who ever stays at a Disney hotel totally deserves what they get – or don’t get! Disney can get away with such shenanigans because they CAN! Thanks to the idiots who continue to patronize them long after they passed their sixth birthday!

      1. Ziva G

Thing is, the hotel she stayed at isn’t a Disney hotel. She stayed at a Hilton across from Disney Springs, which is why it has that title.

CPAP machines help you sleep and are not life critical devices. Any device that requires constant power to KEEP YOU ALIVE has batteries otherwise you couldn’t ever leave the couch. Refrigerators stay cold for hours without power. Unexpected/uncontrolled power outages happen ALL THE TIME. Your laptop had battery and so did your cell phone for data. Your just whining and complaining and taking advantage of the VACATION resort because you ‘couldn’t work’. How did you make it to adulthood if you think this is life threatening and news worthy – planned power outages happen in every city, every single day, AND NO ONE EVER TELLS YOU because there is no requirement to inform you.

What would the warning be? Watch out, world not perfect, stuff may happen

You obviously do not understand what a CPAP is for and what it prevents. CPAP provides airway pressure so a person can sleep and be rested. A non functioning CPAP denies the person that ability and makes them so miserable the following day that you literally can’t do anything. CPAP machines and the loss of usage can actually cause death. While SOME CPAP machines do have the ability to have a battery most do not. Mine doesn’t have that capability. I have a gas generator and I also have a hybrid car with a power inverter that I can use in the event of emergency. Stop being a judgemental ass making statements that a CPAP is just a machine that helps you breath because they are WAY more than that. Although I do thing the author of this is being a bit of a Karen, the bottom line is that nobody told her, she paid for a room and I’m really sure she paid for a room that was supposed to have POWER. If you feel the need to comment, please be ACTALLY informed about the subject you speak about.

      1. Met

        Thank you!!!

      2. Shaughn

Name one case where a CPAP stopped working for a few hours and the person died? Even your sentence says “A non functioning CPAP denies the person that ability and makes them so miserable the following day that you literally can’t do anything.” It is NOT a life or death situation. Yes, people can pass from acute sleep apnea, but you are making it out to be a life support apparatus, which it is not.

    2. Claire

I can see that you know nothing about CPAP treatment. It IS about life and death. Some of us aren’t as bad as others, but we still need the machine. MOST CPAP machines do not have battery backups. Stop acting like you know what other people need.

      1. Met

        Thank you!!!

    3. S

That’s not how CPAP machines work. They are used to help those with sleep apnea to breathe through the night. Without the machine, they can stop breathing in the night and can die. Not every machine for stuff like that has a battery, and you usually can’t pick and choose which machine you get, insurance decides what they want to pay for, so some people don’t get to choose to go for one that can run on battery. Also anything in the fridge only lasts a few hours in a power outage, and most medications won’t last long in a fridge that is not continually cold.

I’m going to whine until I get money for it. Whine, cry and pitch a fit on social media.

We lived for many, many years without electronic devices and all survived.

Stuff happens. Get on with your life and quit whining.

  7. Erica

I can’t believe time was wasted to write something like this.

  8. Jason

I have sleep apnea also along with others I know. Its not as critical as you make it to be. Stop being dramatic. People like you are part of the problem.

  9. JM

Wow, I can’t believe how negative people are behaving about this article.
As a past Hilton manager we would have UNSCHEDULED outages, or even UNSCHEDULED fire alarm and people were asking for their money back saying how it ruined their vacation. People are so entitled sometimes. Bet if the fire alarm saved their life from an inferno they would/should be grateful that they didn’t perish in the fire. Unexpected things happen all over, all the time, but a lot, not all, expect the hotel should be in control. (Although, in this case, an expected or planned outage warrants at least a few notices at the desk, elevator doors, etc.).
My favorite is when people leave balcony doors wide open for hours and are shocked and appalled to get flying insects in the room when they return. Trust me not a feature or issue any guest or STAFF member wants to deal with!

    1. JM

Ok, sorry, didn’t read a few comments that also say the same.

    2. Sk

This lady had an issue and it bothered her. She figured if it bothered her then it might bother others. Reading her thoughts didn’t faze my life one way or the other, I chose to read it. Just like all of you did. By speaking up she thought she was saving someone from having to go through the same issues. So instead of being hateful just ignore it. Most of us parents are telling our kids not to call names, no wonder the world has gone to pot look where they are learning to hate their parents!

    This Isn’t a DISNEY HOTEL
I am so tired of people trashing Disney when it’s NOT their property it belongs to Hilton

  11. Ken

This is not uncommon. I service emergency electrical equipment all across WDW property. When repairs are required it has to be de energized because if I work on it live I die.

Reedy Creek also performs an emergency power test at every location annually. All utility is shut off so that they can verify that the emergency generators, smoke doors, emergency lighting etc. operate properly.

If you are at WDW and your power is shut down for maintenance in the middle of the night there is a better that average chance it is because of me.

    You’re welcome.

    1. Veronica

Well said! Power has its risks and safety always take precedence over a few non power hours. I also work for the power industry. It is a necessity to check and maintain.

  12. C

We experienced an unplanned power outage during our last visit in 2016 while staying at Coronado springs resort. While it was unpleasant due to the heat, lack of a/c and ability to obtain food (the restaurants were unable to prepare food and it was the evening when a lot of folks were returning from the parks and wanting to eat) the most unpleasant thing about it was seeing the absolute horrible behavior of the entitled guests towards CMs that were clearly doing their best to accommodate people as best they could. No point in treating an employee rudely over something they literally had no control over.

  13. Sue

That will teach you don’t go to Disney.

    1. Ziva G

It wasn’t even a Disney resort! It was a Hilton Hotel across from Disney Springs!

  14. darl

What a load of hay. Disney on the property not the hotels which are the ones scheduling maintenance. Want better service? Stay at a fully owned and operated by Disney resort. Sick of the anti Disney rhetoric. If you don’t like them, don’t come!

  15. Kristina

I’m sorry but why was the full resort fee refunded? She paid to sleep in the resort overnight. She had no medical emergency and yes they did not inform her so I could understand a partial refund. But wifi is free at Hilton as well. She just seems to want the attention.

  16. Kyle

Former front desk supervisor here, I have personally checked in guests and informed them of different issues over the years. It’s usually the frequent travelers that listen the least. She was probably informed but just want listening.

  17. Tara

I don’t blame the writer of this post. Part of me wants to think this person is just trying to inform people. And part of me thinks this person is an entitled whiner. I blame insidethemagic.com
    Insidethemagic.net
    for posting this crap.

  18. Hope

This is not a Disney hotel. Hilton owns and operates this entire property, they do reside adjacent to Disney and are a part of the Reedy Creek Emergency Response system, but are not “on” Disney property.

  19. Mel

Sad I wasted time reading this…
Entitled much? If it was your Cpap machine ok, but complaining and whining just to get money back for something that didn’t even affect you?? Yikes.

  20. Larry

Just to be clear, the Hilton Hotel is NOT a Disney resort property despite being located near Disney Springs
