Okay, this was Disney’s Animal Kingdom which often has a high number of African employees, literally from the continent of Africa. He likely wasn’t calling her “Mom” he was likely saying “m’am” but his accent sounded like mom. Why is this an article.

One time when my boyfriend and I had gone to Disneyland for the first time, one of the security guards had asked if there was any way that I could walk through security without using my walker, which is when I had asked him if there was any way that he could walk without his legs

      1. Gern Blanston

        Wendie,

The same thing happened when we were starting our Disney cruise in February. I was walking with a cane after breaking my leg last November. I got to the metal detector and was told to put my cane on the belt so it could get scanned.

I said that I needed my cane to walk and was told that I could pick it up on the other side after it and I went through.

I again said that I would need it to walk through and was told that it would be waiting on the other side.

I just stood there until my wife came back through and helped me walk through the machine.

I don’t understand how they expect folks that need assistance to make it through.

        1. Angela

A million people come through there, some using wheelchairs that can walk just not for hours! My husband has had to use a wheelchair at the Park, but CAN walk, just not a long way or for long! You over reacted and were rude to a cast member when all you had to say was “no”.

      2. David

And yet some people can walk a short distance without their walker. Seems he was asking a simple question and you went all ape s213t on him.

      3. KD

        😄👍 Good comeback!

    2. Sara

Yep, I was just about to say the same thing. Could be really from anywhere and have an accent.

    3. Terrie

      My thoughts, exactly.

    4. Dilbert

Came here to say the exact same thing but you already said it. She’s obviously just looking for attention.

    5. Kristin

I was going to say the same thing – maybe it was “ma’am” with an accent?

    6. Ken

Hmmmm, why did you bother clicking on the article then? Not really a good idea to critique when you were interested…

      1. Angela

        Thanks Karen!

      2. stephen

Ken is kind of an id10t. Let’s all go ahead and mock him for his poor take and bad information.

Booo! Ken is a bad person! Boooo!

    7. Genna

I was going to login just to say this!

    8. Todd

My thoughts exactly. And again why is this important enough to put on the internet.

    9. DENIS COLOMB

Really, this is what you whine about and make an issue of….pathetic

  2. Ray

Why are they making an issue out of this? So you’re not a mom and someone called you one. So what. It’s not the end of the world.

    1. Aaron

They’re not making an issue out of it. It was just a unique scenario that they wanted to share.

      1. Angela

How was it Unique? Obviously you’ve never been around Hispanics who use “Moma” to refer to any female including their kids! It’s a term of endearment for family and friends! I like it! It’s not something to get someone in trouble for!

        1. KD

I always thought that was very cute when I hear Hispanic people say that, to be honest. 😊

    2. Hmmm

I would be mortified if someone mistook me for a mom! Just knowing that I look old enough to look like a mom is upsetting. It feels like when they stop checking your ID when you order alcohol. You just feel old.

But I definitely wouldn’t post a video about it for everyone to see! So I agree with you there. It’s not that big of a deal to report it to the world.

      1. Gen

I went to high school with girls who were moms. Age got nothing to do with it.

  3. Dave Plutonium

Mom is Disney code for Karen

    1. Aaron

How is this lady a Karen

      1. Chaz

Somebody said something and I didn’t like it.. So I’m telling everybody, pretty Karen thing to do.

  4. Mimi

Something similar happened to my son and me at the Hoop De Doo Review many years ago. He and I were approached by the emcee during the show, who assumed that we were married! My teenage son was very tall for his age, and I have always been a young- looking mom. My son was mortified and I was also quite embarrassed.

  5. Joshua

I would say she misheard and the cast member meant M’am.

  6. Trixie

What a whiner! Unless they called you a$$hole or something similar, just laugh and move on.

So tired of this “everything is offensive” generation.

    1. Aaron

Did you…even read the article? She wasn’t offended. In fact, she seemed very amused and just a little confused. Sounds like you’re the one who’s offended for some reason.

      1. David

It comes across as a Karen pissed off post, so I’m going to blast them for likes and followers.

      2. Angela

Whose being a Karen Now, Aaron? Lol!

  7. Bob Cheapskate

Chances are very high that a guy at Disney is a Dad and a gal at Disney is a Mom…. Since it’s where Mom’s s as and Dad’s take their children. He had probably a 90% chance of being right.

  8. Sam

Oh boo hoo. Try being an adult for a change. This is nothing to whine about.

    1. Aaron

      She wasn’t whining…man you’re uptight.

  9. Steve

    Oh the humanity!

    1. Wombat

      This comment is gold!

  10. P

People really freaking out over insignificant ish nowadays…

  11. Simplejack

I think the most important thing to remember here is that we all just wasted 5.minutes of our life. Let this be a lesson to all of us, to be smarter when choosing the shiny object on the internet that gets our attention.

  12. b

man, karen’s life is so hard.

  13. IDGAF

This is a lame article. Even if he said mom instead of ma’am, people need to stop being so effin sensitive.

  14. David

My guess is he was saying m’am, and the Karen poster was unable to tell that as she no looking for like and followers. Or she made the whole store up

  15. Ligma

This reminds me when the kiss cam at a sporting event focused on me (man) and my sister. I was horrified. How dare anyone assume we were together in some incestuous relationship. Oh, then reality hit. We thought it was funny as my sister mouthed “Thats my brother.” Stop making everything into an issue.

  16. Jake

I just want to say, to all the woke people that were looking for an “OH you don’t even know how angry I was!” hey people that get offended for other people… Please just sthu! Not everyone is looking for your anger or for you to be offended! So please, stop talking for other people! Especially POC like myself! We have our own voices and don’t need you to be offended for us! Just go away and deal with your own lives!

    1. KD

Very well-spoken, Jake, I see that way too much these days. Thanks for your insight. 🙂

  17. A lot of cast members are from the islands and they call women, mom or mama, it took me a minute to get used to this but no harm done. When you start traveling the world you will see and hear different things out of your wheel house, so get used to it now in the good ol USA and don’t be so offended.

  18. Al

When I was in grade school I was working really hard on a project and concentrating. when I had a question about it I called the teacher mom. I could have sunk thru the floor when I realized what I had said. And, of course, some of the other kids heard what I said. I was made fun of the rest of the day. By the next day it was forgotten. That 40+ years ago. I remember it, but it didn’t ruin my life.

  19. Keygan

Did you ever consider if he had an accent he was actually saying ma’am with a short “a” sound as opposed to a long “a” sound? It would’ve sounded like him saying mom . So he was being very polite ; just misunderstood by you

  20. Chucky

#1, since when is caring someone mom offensive?
#2. He was probably saying “ma’am”
#3. I was greeted getting out of my car at Animal Kingdom Lodge by a cast member who said “sup man?”.
The magic is gone at Disney my friends.

  21. Hugh Litzer

    Great article!

  22. Anonymous

People need to relax and get a life mistakes happen day in a day out. Why is this an article this is ridiculous. This is why America is the way we are because they make stupid things into such a big fuss, get a life people, there are worst things happening in this world that need more attention than someone calling another person mom. REALLY???? Wow priorities are so screwed up. How about paying attention to inflation. Or how the world is upside down and people during everyday. Get a grip of reality people.
