Last I checked, the default parental controls blocked the more mature offerings (aka, Netflix marvel like Punisher). Given that you specifically have to enable these shows even appearing in the app, what exactly is the issue?

    1. Brian

Maybe the parents who say Disney is endangering their children are the ones actually putting their children in harm’s way. Dont use a tv as a parenting device. A tv is there for entertainment only..

      1. Holland

Sounds to me like some people are getting a little too worked up over small things… It was bad enough when gen-z came around with their snowflake attitudes, now parents are being snowflakes too? It’s a streaming platform you have parental controls what your kids see is up to you, not Disney, you have the right to set parental controls be happy with that and stop complaining like a 4 year old throwing a temper tantrum… Jesus Christ

    2. Laura

I can here to say this. There is very strong parental control. You have to put a password on your account, if you want the rated R. If a parent gives them that password it’s their own fault

      1. Robert

I watch marvel movies and my daughter watches her Disney movies I have the parental controls on her tv. I see no problem with it. All her movies are G rated.

    3. Jay

The issue is Disney making a promise not sticking to it yet again. They only care about political correctness, being woke and their financial growth.

      1. Jim

You forgot they push political correctness agendas. As many said parental controls are there but this issue is an issue of integrity keeping your word plain and simple.

  2. Sue

It’s a parents job to know what their kids are doing and watching, not to plop them in front of the electronic babysitter so they can do whatever without paying attention to their kids. There are parental controls and another good thing…..”outside.” Are these being offered later in the evening?

    1. Raymond

So once again the freedom of speech crowd and the companies can do what they like crowd are against both because they don’t like it. It is not Disney’s job to parent your kid. Use parental control and be quiet.

      1. AccountantBob

Uhhhh, what? Hey groomer fan, just because a Karen wrote this doesn’t make every freedom of speech fan a Karen. I guess I should assume every lib is a hormone pill popping lib that is perfectly ok with allowing their kids to be groomed in disney land……..oh wait you are.

  3. I agree with the council’s take on this. I don’t mind R-rated content and Disney has made them in the past, but not under the Disney name. This does erode the Disney brand and the trust we had. Sure there are parental controls, but I never needed them for Disney! Ma a connected but separate section on the Platform not named Disney.

    1. Former Disney CM 042

      Yup. What he said.

      1. I think it’s great that Disney plus has included r rated
Movies like Deadpool and Logan and I think they should add more r rated
        Movies.

    2. McPheely

If Disney stuck to what children like them people would lose interest after a while. Over the years Disney has acquired many brands with many different types of content and it will all be slowly incorporated into Disney+ to keep people interested.

The days of Disney PG are long past. It is a parent’s job to monitor their children and Disney does the right thing by carefully cataloguing the shows ratings and enabling viewer restricted parental controls.

I have 4 children and I make sure to monitor what they watch very carefully. I don’t leave it up to others to restrict their content.

The writer of this article gets the Captain Obvious award. Since this is something we all knew.

  5. Robinson

I, for one, am always skeptical of the protestation of groups that are clearly partisan. Disney+ has always offered parents the ability to parent with their parental controls. As a Disney family we have never seen a problem with the content offered; as we have the option and ability to restrict any content we find objectionable and/or inappropriate to us or our children. What is objectionable is behaviors shown by more and more parents at the Parks. Brawls have seemed to become more common place; is this the reality they want to show their children and others children that are visiting the Parks. In these incidents we do not have parental controls.

Be a parent and take an interest in your children. Know what they are watching, reading and listening to and exercise your parental authority. Your not there to be their friend, your there to guide and nurture.

    Interesting!

Inappropriate contents, as usual for Disney.

ONG when it this crap going to stop with people getting offended by a little thing if the movie is R rated don’t let you kids watch it. It’s that simple. Just like the instruction label they put on cloths now do t wash I. Hot water and make sure you take it off you child before you wash it. 🤪

  10. Da

to be able to view that content you have to enter your parental password. and select which profiles can have the permissions. dosney posted assuage on the app that those shows were going to be available on the service to those that accept them…..not a streaming services fault if negligence was on the part of the parent….

  11. Katharine Ray

While I dislike the R rated content, and contend that the commission is correct in stating that Disney did say they would keep the edgier content to Hulu, there are parental controls. I think it just shows that corporate doesn’t care about its customers and is only looking at the bottom line. If folks are only subscribing to Disney+ and not the bundle – of course they are going to put their PG13-R rated shows where the customers are. I think it just proves that Disney is no longer Walt’s vision and that they are just another Fortune 500 company.

    1. Kieran

Well they need all the marvel stuff in one place. And america is the only place with hulu. Everywhere else its on disney plus anyway.

  12. Military mama

Love of money is the root of all evil

  13. Disney has destroyed there image a long time ago, if your so concerned on there broadcast being of a more adult version then don’t watch the channel.
There is a better option for which I did. CANCELED THEM.
CANCELED MY SEASON PASSHOLDER CARD, TIMES 4.
Disney is no longer the Disney with family morals. Thus they no longer will influence my children our my grandchildren.

    1. M. Licausi

It’s TV. If you don’t like it, turn it off, change the channel , use the parental control or even discontinue the service. I am disappointed that Disney chose this direction, but I know I am the one in control of my children’s TV viewing .

    2. J. Johnson

Typical response from a liberal. Disagree with someone so go with the name calling attack mode. Try just letting people have their say and their own opinions.

      1000% Foolishness

    4. S Nogg

So stop commenting on this Disney blog and give the rest of us some peace.

    5. Ginger

Disney has gotten rid of family values so this doesn’t surprise me. All they care about is the bottom line. Disney+ add R-rated movies = more money being brought in. $$$$$

    6. Steve Romeo

What specific family values do you believe they abandoned?

  14. Tim

Looking forward to more adult movies on Disney+.

    1. Parent who parents!

For everyone posting “there are parental controls” you are missing the point. Disney execs lied. They stated from the very beginning that R rated movies would not be on Disney +. Their partnership with Hulu was for that material. Its not about the content, its about the lie. Disney has obviously determined this move is more important to their bottom dollar than upholding their promise to their customers. Not shocking in this world today though. Look at all the comments from those that don’t care about the lie.

      1. Ginger

        Exactly

      2. Me

Yes!!! The other commenters are missing the point. Ever since Bob “Paycheck” took over, it’s been all about the money. Not loyalty to what the brand has stood for for DECADES.

      3. Aloud Opinion

        Nobody likes a liar.
Please post Disney+ commitment promising no R-rated material. We can then have an educated discussion.

      4. Me

Clearly you don’t get it. It’s not just the lie. That is only one point.. Yes they changed their minds, what parent hasn’t done that to their child, or someone to a friend or sibling. Sounds like they are human like most of us. This is a huge company that has millions of viewers, not everyone will be happy. It might be a lie to one person,, but the world does not revolve around one person’s views.. Yes they said they were not going to put r rated stuff on the app, however yes there are parental controls. And there are points of views from people who aren’t commenting. Stop being closed minded and open your eyes. I don’t agree with what they said either but I I try to understand it. How much research have you actually done on this or do you just decide something on little to no information and go with it. Your not very smart are you.

  15. Brian

In the immortal words of one of the new Disney+ stars, “Pump the hate brakes, Fox & Friends!”

  16. Deb

choices, parental block codes, turn of TV or cancel subscription and maybe don’t give kids the remote

  17. Lori

I do not watch the Disney Channel but always assumed that it was wholesome family entertainment. R rated movies do not belong on the Disney Channel. There are plenty of other options to view them. A parent should not have to worry about what their children are watching on Disney, You shouldn’t need parental controls. Im sure Walt Disney is turning over in his grave.

    1. Dawn

There is no “R” rated content on The Disney Channel, this is on Disney+, a paid subscription streaming channel….. And they have parental controls for just this reason. There are plenty of movies/programs that children should not watch without adult supervision (including many of the classic Disney movies). This is no different. And…. Walt cannot even possibly “roll over in his grave”, I really wish people would stop saying that. He was cremated. He is ashes. He has no body to roll over.

    2. Cecilia

The Disney Channel and Disney + are two different things. At least try to understand what you are complaining about.

  18. Jackson May

I say bring on more r rated content personally I don’t have children and like people have already pointed out its a parents job not a companys

  19. Why is it so hard for parents to take responsibility for their own kids?

  20. Cn

How is Deadpool and Logan any different than all of the avengers movies or marvel movies? Really. There is already plenty of similar content on it. I watched Logan in theater with my kid…… It was a good movie and not any more violent than every single marvel movie out there!!!!

    1. Dawn

Exactly!!!! There are so many movies already on there that are no different.

  21. Kris

As usual, so called parents are upset that they have to be parents and use parental controls. These people shouldn’t have kids and you need to stop giving them attention.

  22. Almur

That’s what parental controls are for, people must take the responsibility for their children themselves!

  23. Chris Wood

How is putting mature movies on Disney+ hurting the children? The parents will have to do their jobs now and monitor what their brats are watching.

  24. Daryl Mc.

What I’m seeing is that folks aren’t understanding how these movies will work on Disney+. You will not have to change your parental controls to not have these movies play. Only once you give permission can they be viewed regardless if it’s on your TV at home or on the app.

    1. Cecilia

      Don’t confuse them with facts.

  25. S Nogg

Plus I find it interesting how much anti-Disney tripe this Disney blog prints.

  26. S Nogg

  27. Jacob

Disney is foolish to put R-rated content on the Disney brand. They have had Buena Vista, Touchstone, etc… over the years to do that in theaters and TV because they wanted familes to know Disney meant Family.

Throwing that trust away is a shortsighted move. If families will need more thought before subscribing to Disney+ or going to a Disney movie going forward, Disney is going to lose out on those dollars in the long run as Universal and others put together more competitive offerings.
All in all, families and kids lose out on a place they could always count on. Thats too bad.

    1. Lottie

I just love reading these comments. People complaining a business doesn’t care about them or it isn’t the same Disney Walt imagined. Do we even need to look at some of older Disney or what Walt was like? I don’t really care. There’s ways to protect kids from seeing the stuff so it’s not like it’s incredibly easy to access like other streaming services. “Oh they lied” they changed their mind. And perhaps it is for profit, but that’s what all businesses are for. It is enjoyable to see these folks get so upset. Cause let’s be honest, this will just end up forgotten about by most people since it’s not a big deal.

  28. Sarah Berardi

So I was six and a 9-year-old. They’re both electronically advanced. I have to change the password for the parental controls all the time. Once they figured out they don’t tell me they figured it out, they just released the parental controls. And then when I start to see what they’ve been watching I realize I need to put the parenting code on again. Maybe my codes are too simple, but even when I used a complex 32 character one my 9-year-old still managed to figure out what it is. Kids are smart. Disney’s greedy, they already changed the park so it’s for more than adults than kids. Just look at all the food they’re changing. All the attractions are changing. All the names are changing! What’s wrong with fairy godmother? It’s been a name at Disney for almost the last 85 years. Why do they have to make all these changes now!? They say it’s to include people but the people there including are 1%. I understand the 1%. I have friends that are at the 1%, I get it! But you care more about them than you do. Keeping the innocence of the Disney brand! It’s the innocence that I will be missing because I canceled my subscription because of what they’re doing. I will miss a lot of the shows and a lot of the new coming shows. It said to me that I have to protect my children from their politics on what should be a happy Disney show page. And although those parental controls are there, kids are smart. You won’t be able to keep them from watching movies you don’t want them to. So enjoy the erosion of Disney. It started when he died and is getting worse every year. May he rest in peace.

  29. Jonathan

Disney has come a long way in the wrong direction Don’t be fooled Disney is all about the money, GREED bottom line.
Oh boy would Walt roll over in his grave .
It’s gonna get worse hang on to your hats.
Advice : DISCONNECT FROM DISNEY !!!

  30. Dianna

Sad. As usual, another company making excuses for poor decisions thinking it will make them more money only to find out too late that they are alienating their base.

  31. John

Since when did it become somebody else’s job to parent your own kids? You’re an adult you made the decision to have the kids it’s your job to teach them right from wrong, protect them, and show them what they are and aren’t allowed to do. It’s your job to develop them into proper sane human beings that don’t become Ron DeSantis. It’s not Disney’s job to do this for you. They bought Marvel and Fox and a couple of other brands and those brands are known for their PG-13 and R content. It is reverse PC. Instead of actually doing your jobs as a parent and making sure you know what your children are up to, you’re pushing the blame onto somebody else and then crying foul because oh my god it’s not what I wanted! Maybe you shouldn’t have had kids if you didn’t want to be responsible for what they’re doing and what they’re watching. Disney made a decision based on its available merchandise, I for one know that there’s controls and I think this is good for Disney cuz it expands them. If Disney didn’t do it somebody else would and they would end up taking Disney’s movies. So once again conservative idiots learn to actually do your damn jobs and take care of your own children for once.

  32. Chrissy C

This is so dramatic! People are looking for tv and streaming services to raise their children. You should ALWAYS know what your kids are watching – simply don’t put on an R rated film if you don’t want them to see it! This is such a pathetic non-issue and everyone complaining needs to grow a spine and realize Disney owes them absolutely nothing lmao.

  33. Aloud Opinion

Freedom of choice is the American Way. A parent who monitors their child can simply turn on Patental Control, change the channel, play a DVD or turn the TV off. To punish Disney+ or punish my family for watching a television program is simply UnAmerican. Disney is a private company in freedom-loving America. We are sovereign. Ugly Americans who push their personal views on the rest of us just don’t understand each of us have our OWN personal choices.

  34. Linnie

Disney has been a letdown ever since they joined the woke bandwagon. As for the magic, it was missing on my first visit in March. I think Walt Disney would be disappointed. But that’s just my opinion.

  35. Widsith

Parental controls, parental responsibility, etc. are all beside the point. DISNEY LIED. The lied and they deserve to be held accountable for that. That’s all that matters.

  36. Chuck

I was been thinking about getting Disney Plus but if they’re going this way it’s just not worth my time growing up with Disney it’s not the same Disney anymore and I guess not happy with it it’s too bad

  37. Nick

Did they ever formally announce that they weren’t going to put rated R movies on Disney+? I never remember hearing that and all the info I can find is from some interviewer informally speaking to a Disney rep outside a trade show. And even that interview sounds vague.

  38. Cecilia

There are plenty of parental controls to keep kids out of more adult content. As technology betters and changes, this can happen. They can learn to use it. These folks are just looking for any excuse to moan.

  39. Adrianne

I think it’s a parent’s responsibility to monitor and be aware of what their children watch. It’s not the responsibility of a company. That being said, I am very disappointed in Disney’s shift. It seems like they’re becoming more concerned with political statements and issues than on creating worthwhile content. I know the argument can be made that they’ve been heading that way for a long time. I no longer let my 4 children watch Disney+ unless I’m with them because I want to make sure the things they watch is in accordance with what I’m trying to teach them. A lot of Disney content does fit with what I try to teach, but as Disney content becomes more political, I don’t feel safe letting my kids have free reign. As I said before, monitoring what my children watch is my job as a parent, but it disappoints me that Disney doesn’t seem to be on my side anymore.

  40. David F

They added the R-rated and TVMA-rated shows because by 2024 Disney has to decide whether they are paying for or allowing Comcast to buy out Hulu and if Disney does so will most likely merge Hulu into Disney+ as a hub like Marvel and Pixar

  41. Scarlet Lovell

It is their right to add them if they wish. A lot of people like this group complaining do not understand the aspects of this type of business. They have tried for years to keep it a clean company but when you can see what is starting to happen you must do something to keep afloat. Disney has been the latest of the entertainment bashing target.

  42. Steve T

Do not blame Disney for adding R-rated content. Disney acquired the rights to these movies and the ones who complain are not real Disney fans.

  43. Robert

I don’t think it’s a big issue… you have to manually set your profile on the main website to allow rated R stuff and it locks the profile behind a pin code

  44. Jay

It would appear that 90% of the comments in here are from Gen z and millennials.
You’re missing the whole point you’re going after the parental block feature. And not seeing the Disney was supposed to be for family and children not adult entertainment. A safe space for children to be children. But does the only cares about being woke and making money.

  45. Chad

The way that parental controls are enabled requires children to leave the room in order to enable or disable for a profile. This is poor use of the technology and indicates that Disney’s dedication towards this protection is more of an afterthought instead of a primary concern.

  46. Dizknee611

We cancelled Disney + after our Trans gender 12 year old neighbor asked us too. She is experiencing severe side effects of puberty blockers. She is not de transitioning but stopped the blockers. Her parents took her off after she started getting dizziness and temporary blindness. She said she emailed Disney about what happened to her and some other kids she met online and Disney’s response was a pre-written letter singing the praises of blockers and early surgery. It was gross to learn a company I’ve trusted and loved since childhood could be supportive of experimental practices on kids. Even worse because we all had been fooled into just assuming they must be safe. Nobody would give them to kids if they weren’t right? Wrong. Disney does lie. The FDA put a warning against them and I never heard of it until she told me. Disney knew and still aggressively promoting their use. It’s crazy!

  47. Dizknee611

They did start a cult for that exact purpose. Its called the woke movement

  48. Dizknee611

You must be an uneducated adult. As your post has NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ARTICLE. I think you were trying to insult 85% of the people on here but your off topic post sort of makes you the 85% The uneducated part seems to be a good fit.
