My family checked onto Wilderness Lodge. Upon entering our room we saw a very large black snake looking in at us through the patio door. Always request an upper floor room now. Image if the previous occupants had left the patio doors open. That snake would have been in the room.

Florida is overun with non indigenous snakes, alligators, and PEOPLE!

In the old River Country a snake came down a slide.

In 1989, I was enjoying the Magic Kingdom with my then four year old daughter. We rode Big Thunder Mountain and as we exited we saw a small crowd around the desert landscaping. It seems a yellow rat snake had decided the cactus were a great place to hang out. A couple of clueless young staffers arrived with a burlap sack to remove the offending reptile. A young woman mishandled the snake and was bitten on the hand before they were able to push the nonpoisonous interloper into the sack. It was done quietly and professionally, if inartfully, and gave us something to talk about for the rest of the trip.

Oh yes! At Beach Club have seen several, and the walkway from there & Yacht Club to Epcot. The most recent, another couple and us were sitting in the lounge chairs by the pool. A lady 2 chairs down suddenly yelled. Here came good sized snake slithering along! Later that day another was seen. Eeks! I have heard a few times that Disney actually knows they are there and they help with rodent control. Snakes love the ivy & moisture in the landscaping. Many people have said snakes are common at Wilderness Lodge also. The pretty landscaping we all like, they unfortunately like, too! Either way, I hate snakes and rodents!

You are very hateworthy yourself. Snakes and rodents are cute, sweet and make great companions if you’re kind to them. The world would be a great place without bigots like you.

      1. The truth

The word “bigot” is over used by low IQ mouth breathers.

I do not know how many times I have seen parents allow their children to go off walkways into brush in both the parks and at the hotels. Florida has lots of snakes some poisonous most harmless however they hide in the brush. There’s a reason that there is a separation between the walkways and brush, if you keep your children from playing in places where they shouldn’t be they will not get bit.

We always see kids and adults taking short cuts thru the greenery. I guess just ten more feet on a sidewalk is too much to ask people. Bad thing is they make a “trail” and people follow.

There’s a snake in my boot!

    1. Buzz

I’ll get it out for you.

      Bwahahaha

    3. Yes – 3 weeks ago at Typhoon Lagoon. A garter snake endeared the wave machine pool and swam across it. Some hero just grabbed it out of the water, but he did get bit for his troubles.

My husband and I were there that day. We were nicely floating along and had reached the island, so we took the left side as we felt it moved faster. Then all of a sudden we had to come to a stop along side the island, only to be told by cast members, to turn around and walk out, due to there being a snake in the water. The cast members dealt with the snake and we returned to the river once all clear was given. Not our first encounter with a snake but first its been having fun with us. We have also seen a gator in the waters just to the side of Splash Mountain many years back, now that was when we realised that Disney can’t beat everything. Coming from Northern Ireland, we aren’t used to snakes, after all St Patrick drove them all out lol 😂

  8. Patti

Yes. We also encountered a snake in Castaway Creek many years ago. A cast member promptly removed the critter and life went on. Glad I didn’t get a close encounter with the snake, but I wasn’t far behind. Not a snake fan! 😳

    1. KV

I’m sure the snake isn’t a fan of you either.

  9. Mickeymouse3

What kind of snake was it?
    Enquiring minds want to know.

The family of that child who was bitten by the snake should be consulting an attorney!!!! They could receive a SUBSTANTIAL settlement from a LAWSUIT!!!

      Not everyone is sue happy😂

My last visit to Fort Wilderness there was a full grown water moccasin at pool side. I removed it with a long pool pole. Checked him back into the woods.

    1. KV

Good work! Thank you for respecting wildlife.

  12. Carol

That’s ok. If you don’t like it stay home.

  13. Jen

So far I’ve only seen a gator on the golf course.

  14. TruthSeeker

The only snake in Florida is Ron DeSantis

    1. The truth

Aw I see we found another low IQ mouth breather, who’s sad hate filled life requires them to bring politics into things that are none political. Typical leftwing groomer. Im sure yiu on some sort of sex offender list and if not you probably should me.

  15. We were in the Lazy River and a snake fell out of a tree. Not a problem a cast member picked it up. We were staying at the Shades of Green and could watch the alligator walk across the golf course. I really loved it when the wind turkeys would come on our patio there.

At Blizzard Beach, I saw a very large King snake (I think) slither quickly across the pathway about 10 feet in front of me. It went straight into the crowded lazy river. All you could hear were a bunch of screams right after. I was very glad at that point I had just exited the river.

Florida =. Snakes , gators and bears and black panthers and a lot more. But if there is water you can be sure there is a snake or gator in there it’s Florida they live here also.

  18. Jules H

Well thankfully no because I never been to Disney World & Definitely won’t go to visit the “Dreams come true” land at least until I win a lottery not really but until they apologize to Johnny Depp.
