I guess you don’t realize how much Disney has in terms of property. How much it would cost to rebuild what is there. Disney has more property then the size if San Francisco is big. You and many others are gonna 💩 on Disney, but in all reality its the upper management that has done the damage. Its not like just shutting the doors and saying they are gonna build somewhere else. You really don’t know how much Disney owns not just property, but as in toys, TV networks, cloths lines and hundreds of other different stuff.
You are right about people “crapping” on Disney. They used to be for Children’s entertainment and to have children use their imagination. Instead they got involved in politics and pushing adult matters on children. They won’t see a dime of my money
Yes. We do want them to leave. They cause more problems then they are worth. And while they may be the “largest employer in Florida”, they are already understaffed and hiring the dregs of society. The loss won’t really be felt. Unfortunately, they won’t close, and they won’t fire their narcissistic CEO so they will just continue to be a problem.
I remembered River Country from my first trip to Fort Wilderness Campground and the Magic Kingdom.
When this was first announced, I called my DVC agent and said I want the first deed. I started saving for a cash purchase at that time.
I will not be spending that money anywhere else.
It’s unrealistic to expect this company to ever stop being political unless they get bought out by someone who isn’t a full-time activist. Perhaps Elon Musk can do it. The plunging stock will make it easier.
Of course I wouldn’t. You would. That’s why they should have stayed out of politics to begin with. At least if they adopted my politics, they wouldn’t have lost their municipality and tax breaks.
Please explain why they have to be involved in politics in the first place. They are a company that is supposed to be in the business of entertaining families. What does that have to do with politics?
If ‘Citizens United’ ever gets overturned, then pretty much ALL businesses will get out of politics. Until then the Supreme Court says that Corporations have as much political voice as they can afford to buy… just like all the rest of us.
Instead of adding more hotel rooms to further overcrowd the parks, why not add another park or better flesh-out Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios? Or expand EPCOT as opposed to eternal construction to rebuild what was already there? The problem in Disney World is not a lack of hotels.
Perhaps they would be better served to add to Fort Wilderness! Maybe move the cabins out of their current location in the SWAMP! $300+ a night to stay in a swamp is reduculous! Hey, maybe they could put the Princess and the Frog attraction there! Frogs love swamps!
Yes, the problem is a lack of hotel and DVC properties. Remember there are hundreds of thousand of off-property hotels and the Disney resorts are typically over 90% booked. So that means that more Supply moves people from off-property to on property. But hotel rooms does not increase the demand for park attendance.
I don’t know how many rooms there are at Disney world, but I looked it up to find an estimate from 3 years ago at 36,000. I don’t know if that’s DVC or not. If we estimate 3 guests per room average, at full capacity that’s 108000 guests total. That means approximately 27000 guests per park per day from on-site stays alone, which is far in excess of a reasonable number.
All you’ve done claiming there aren’t enough hotels is prove what they really need is more park capacity. The problem is that Paycheck and Co. see the parks as a cost center and the hotels as a profit center. That’s true, until people don’t want to come to the overcrowded and underwhelming parks anymore and refuse to pay for the overpriced hotels.
27K guests is less than half of what each park’s capacity is, probably more like 1/3 or possible even 1/4. That’s also assuming that every guest in every room goes to a Disney park in a given day. There are plenty of other central FL attractions that Disney guests go to: Sea World, Universal, Kennedy Space Center, Busch Gardens and literally DOZENS more, plus “non park” options like Disney Springs and the water parks (both Disney and non Disney). The additional hotels are designed to pull people on property, with the assumption that even if they aren’t going to the parks the Mouse still gets their money. My opinion is that Bob Cheapskate and Co have taken away most of what used to be the clincher for staying on property vs off; no more Magic Express being the biggest. I work at MCO and get a ringside seat every day for the fiasco known as Mears Connect.
The average theme park ride would be exceptionally lucky to get 2000 riders an hour. The average restaurant around 500. Yankee Stadium has a capacity of around 50k people sitting in chairs. I don’t know what Disney believes their “capacity” is, but their hotel rooms alone exceed what would be in any way a quality experience. Maybe there is physical standing room in the park up to 100k, but it’s absurd to even suggest that number is acceptable.
I think there is some weird rule that prohibits Disney from using a lot of marvel IP in the Orlando parks because of Universal Orlando already having it in their parks.
They aren’t allowed to. Universal Studios Orlando has a long, iron clad contract on Marvel rights currently. It’s so well written it would potentially bankrupt Disney to try and cancel it. So, they expand the characters they can. I.E.- Guardians of the Galaxy, who are not in that contract. They would love to expand Marvel in FL.
Frankly, I’m glad it was canceled. It was way too close to Fort Wilderness for one thing. Fort Wilderness is nice & peaceful and adding a giant resort would ruin it. I would rather they use that area of land to add to Fort Wilderness inself such as a better pool or even an activity like a Disney themed zipline experience.
With cutbacks and Chapek’s career currently in Trump-like conflict at the moments it’s not a good time to let Hotel Bob build another one of his off-the-rack DVC tinker-toys.
They’re still paying for his, ahem, last one.
The land’s still there, and new management will probably find some more immersively themed use to tie into FW, about five or ten years down the road.
But we can point to the new Polynesian building and tell those waiting for Reflections, “Hey, this coulda been YOU.”
Florida revoked Disneys ability to issue their own building permits. They must now get their expansion permits, inspections etc from the counties which they reside. Big slow down in efficiency as the residing counties do not have the resources. Disney can apply for their separate status as a status again annually.
Revoking Disney’s special district would actually increase local property taxes by $2k and give Disney a $160m tax break. The district was originally made so Disney would pay all the taxes and local residents wouldn’t have to, the upside was that they could self govern. Get off your right wing propaganda
Just fly to Tokyo..
DisneySea is easily the greatest park Disney has ever built..
Loving that volcano with the Nautilus docked by the Chinese Restaurant..
It’s all built on a spit of reclaimed land on Tokyo Bay..
Fantastic..
In the mind of a commie: “persecution” is removing a special status from a multinational corporation it should never have been given because that company vowed to undermine a democratically elected government. Admit it, if the politics were switched, you would be entirely against Disney.
830. The number of days since the last parking lot tram picked up guests at Epcot and Hollywood Studios. Maybe they just need to prioritize their guests that are already dealing with their penny pinching under this current leadership. Thanks Bob 😠
Why you saying that you know how my this company had done to the residents and everyone that is heartless your a crude person to say that I myself worked at disney to support my children and grandchildren I’m proud to have worked for such a reputable company.

Good, now close the rest of the park and get out of Florida!

So, you want one of the largest employers in the state to leave? You’ll be flooded with a massive unemployment pool.
I wonder
How do you feel about the coal and oil industries shutting down and destroying rural areas of numerous states?

except they have not.

Definitely don’t want them to leave FL. Just want them to focus on entertaining, rides, hotels, food etc and stay out of politics.

So it is not ok if Disney tries to promote diversity and inclusion, but when Koch Industries wants to promote bigotry and hate that is ok?
Victor Nazarian
No one should want any mega corporations or other massive institutions and organizations manipulating our society to democracy.
Our nation is for the people, by the people. This does not mean for the mob, by the rich & elite.
Victor Nazarian
That was supposed to be, “manipulating our society OR democracy.”

With their aquisition of Marvel, they should have opened a park for that and Star Wars instead of replacing rides elsewhere. They have the space.

Sure was a lot of construction equipment and new construction debris there the other day for a “possibly canceled” project.

Are you sure they are not simply using the location as a stockpile for their other construction projects? I mean that is common practice.
Yes

Good. Disney has absolutely no business fouling up Fort Wilderness with another crowd busting DVC property, or any other property, on its doormat.
People need another park gate, not another hotel to house 3000 more people who can’t get into a park.
Cathy Slian

If it ever happens. Which it won’t. Too costly for the taxpayers.

Not giving a massive corporation self-governing status and tax breaks is “too costly for the taxpayers” – this is your brain on modern leftism.
