“Fan favorite”. Interesting. There are 25 of us in my diverse legal office and we discuss topics of all kinds including movies. Anytime over the past few years that we have discussed the Tom Holland Spider Man movies, a comment that has always been made and agreed with wholeheartedly is how annoying Zendaya as MJ has been. Snarky, arrogant, and outright annoying has always been the overwhelming consensus of all- male, female, black, brown, white, hound, older, and various religions. I know the 25 of us do not represent every movie goer, but that’s the sentiment of 100% of a large sample size. Ned is no better. It’s like he’s supposed to be cast as a lovable goofball, but again, he detracts. We all insist that the same movies without those two would be just as good if not better. We all rejoiced about the fact they may not return in a new movie. Tom Holland is an incredible actor (just watch The Impossible or The Devil All the Time for proof) and we don’t need pointless and annoying characters to carry an already strong movie. Fan favorites? Um, no.

    1. Mr. Bailey

      “large sample size” . “Interesting”.

      1. sarah lincoln

True. Nothing remotely “large” about a minscule “sample size” of 25. Now – what Is a large group for brilliantly multi-talented, very popular Zendaya, is the one comprised of her 141 Million Instagram followers! Zendaya has Twice the number of Instagram followers that her beloved Tom Holland, a brilliantly multi-talented man himself, has.

        1. Dee

It’s really beside the point. Why do we have to keep seeing the same three people on the 4th movie going on and on about and how much they’re best friends. This is not a rom-com or a sitcom. Can we get some fresh Dalton ideas anymore on can recast the same people in basically tell the same story.

          1. sarah lincoln

The glaringly obvious point is that some bigots were trying to keep brilliant Zendaya literally “out of the picture” from the very beginning. And they’re sneakily still trying to – despite the roaring success, and “fresh” stories in each of the Spider Man films she’s been in.

And The characters are young enough to have exciting arcs. Tom’s Peter and Zendaya’s MJ started out younger than the other Spider Man iterations featuring Andrew and Tobey. The college experience is just now coming up. And the fact that Tom’s and Zendaya’s versions will have to somehow come to remember each other – as well as the different villains brought in, can make for as exciting a new trilogy as any other could.

The best science fiction/fantasy encapsulates the real human experience. Realism dictates that at least Sometimes in the movies, women should not be expendable. If Tom Holland portrays Peter Parker, then Zendaya should portray MJ.

Interesting events happen in even “regular” people’s lives. Hollywood writers should be able to continue to create intriguing stories for two geniuses (One of which is a flipping Superhero) in love with one another!

Again- Science Fiction and Fantasy at their best, tell the human story in fantastical settings. They should have elements of romance, tragedy, humor, suspense – the whole gamut. In real life, couples stay together for decades. This most recent version of Spider Man films can continue to distinguish itself from the others by being different in this respect: We get to actually See them have a “future” together.

Tom’s Peter and Zendaya’s MJ are dynamic enough characters to keep things interesting. The same “new” things that could happen to “new” actors could happen to them.

For one thing, we see MJ progressing into a more and more positive character because of her friendship with upbeat Peter and Ned and the other members of the group she helms, The Academic Decathlon Team. She even has school spirit by the end of NWH. I see her even as a cheerleader at Peter’s University.

That is even canon. In the great TV Spider Man cartoon many years ago, Michelle Jones (MJ) is Peter’s brilliant lab partner and good friend at University. She is also a lovely black girl, like Zendaya is.

      2. Austin

You guys are all probably the same idiots that think the avengers movies should still have captain America and iron man 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

        1. sarah lincoln

“Idiots?!” I earned a 3.7 (“A”) gpa in the Honors College of the University at which I matriculated. You? Iron Man dies and Captain America gets old. Peter and MJ do neither. They haven’t even gotten to college yet as Peter in the films’ earliest iterations does. Obviously, exciting new stories can be told with the same characters/actors. Keeping this wonderfully successful version of Peter/ MJ could distinguish it even more from its forebears.

    2. sarah lincoln

?!? Brilliant, multi-talented Zendaya is a great actress who was deservedly voted best actress in a drama by other professional actors for that highly prestigious Emmy win. Zendaya’s the youngest person in history to win it. And the director of Spider Man, Jon Watts, specifically told Zendaya to act “like Darla” from the cartoon Beavis and Butthead in her role as MJ. Zendaya obviously aced the assignment. A biased person pretending that POC “rejoiced” over wonderful POC Zendaya and adorable POC Jacob Batalon “leaving” the franchise is not fooling anyone. Millions of people adore both Zendaya as MJ and Jacob B. as Ned. Tom Holland is a great actor, too. And the chemistry between Tom, Zendaya, and Jacob Batalon in the movies and in interviews is fantastic. Indeed “Three is the magic number.” It would be nice if they all came back.

    3. sarah lincoln

Oh, and by the way, Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Jacob Batalon magnificently helmed No Way Home and it earned nearly 2 billion dollars at the box office – and that was without China. China weirdly said they would not show the film unless the Statue of Liberty was removed from it! The producers and director refused to do so.

    4. sarah lincoln

Everyone I know adores wonderfully multi-talented Zendaya. And the truly “large” sample size is actually the number of her Instagram followers. Very popular Zendaya has over 141 Million followers now, or nearly Twice as many followers as wonderfully multi-talented Tom Holland has.

    5. sarah lincoln

Oh, and Zendaya is definitely a fan favorite! She has 141 Million Instagram followers, because she is amazingly multi-talented, funny, personable, wholesome, and kind. And in part because of her strong, adorable chemistry with her beloved Tom, the Spider Man films that prominently feature her are the most successful of all the Spider Man films – even with the last one being released during a Pandemic! Zendaya is such a dedicated actress she did most of her stunts way up in the air as a Trapeze Artist in her hit movie, The Greatest Showman. And again – brilliant actress Zendaya was voted the best actress by her peers, other professional actors, for the highly prestigious Emmy Award. Both Zendaya and her beloved Tom are deservedly award-winning actors. Beautiful Zendaya is also a wonderful dancer, a singer, a producer, a painter, a writer of movie scripts/poetry/song lyrics, and again, became a Trapeze Artist. Zendaya is amazing.

    6. Angel

Hope your office knows more about the law than movies.

    7. Dylan reeder

🥱🥱🥱knew people we going to complain about non issues. You didn’t dissapoint. So what if Zandayas MJ is a smart ass? She wasn’t even that much of a one in the second and especially the third one, besides an occasional quip.

      1. sarah lincoln

Zendaya aced the assignment. The director told her to play the part of MJ like Darla from Beavis and Butthead! Even Aunt May got to smile (a lot) more. I was a little perturbed at first, but now I see how that expands her arc/gives her room to grow. Ned even says she has school spirit (at the end of NWH). I see her as a brilliant student and cheerleader in Spider Man4. Tom & she deservedly earn so much they can retire or have a nice long hiatus during which they marry and start their family.

    8. Dylan Reeder

      Go to sleep, your cranky

    9. U guys need to shut up u like marvel right and It was their decision not urs so shut the frick up already and Zendaya is an amazing actor ok
      🐠🌊🐠

      1. Oakley

        Exactly

  2. Abraham E

I think in the fourth film of Spider-Man in the MCU, they should introduce Gwen Stacy, Harry Osborn, Black Cat, Miles Morales and Cindy Moon. Also, Peter should team up with Kamala Khan, Daredevil, Kate Bishop, Sam Wilson Captain America, Punisher and Captain Marvel

    1. sarah lincoln

Well, I think that was one reason the Andrew Garfield Spider Man movie iteration was not as financially successful as Tom’s or Tobey’s. The Amazing Spider Man just told the same story, pretty much, that Tobey’s did. With Harry and Uncle Ben. In contrast, Tom Holland’s version of the movie felt fresh and brilliant and different enough to engage wider audiences. It is the most successful of the 3 and that occurred during a Pandemic!

    2. Dhdn

There’s no point to introduce Gwen Stacy as every spider-man fan knows, Gwen Stacy is known as the girlfriend that dies. So, i don’t really see it as a good idea because the fans already know what will happen. But I would be down for Black Cat, DareDevil, DeadPool, Fantastic Four to show up. Again I also don’t like the idea Kamala Khan appearing in Spider-man as I can’t really see Spider-man teaming up with Kamala Khan but that’s my opinion. Lastly, they should bring Cindy Moon and Miles Morales but keep Miles younger than peter and don’t make him a spider-man yet because one of the main reasons why Miled became a spider-man was because of Peter’s death by the hands of green goblin (if i remember the comics right) and as for Cindy Moon I think thry should keep her the way she is and her attraction towards peter due to the similar spider and they should not bring in Harry Osborn because thats been over done as well.

  3. Harrison

Personally, I’d like to see Miles Morales finally get formally introduced to the MCU. While it’s already been done in other Sony Spider-Man movies (Spider-Man: Enter the Spider-Verse), I could very easily see a mentor/mentee relationship between Peter and Miles, much as Tony Stark did for Peter.

    1. sarah lincoln

That would be interesting down the road, maybe. A Peter/Miles collaboration could work, but it’s too close to the 3 Peters of No Way Home to do that in the very next movie. Spider Man 4 should concentrate on Peter and Michelle getting back together, among other things.

  4. Flip

Zendaya is a driving force for Peter in these movies, she is a interesting character that has depth, she’s strong and can hold her own, that’s mj, but I do think she shouldn’t show up again, because her absence means even more to Peter than anything, and I definitely don’t think he should get a new love interest, that ruins the whole point of the end of no way home if he’s just getting a new girlfriend, he lost the person he loves. That should be impacting him for a few movies. The feeling of being alone, maybe making some friends along the way, but feeling lonely without his love.

    1. sarah lincoln

Well, the writers of No Way Home already brilliantly used foreshadowing to let us know that MJ will remember Peter – or maybe has already started to. Genius MJ tells Peter, ” I’ll just figure it out.” And MJ’s face has a look of “deja vu” right after Peter leaves her coffee shop with tears in his eyes. What is unrealistic is the unmitigated suffering of Peter Parker. He’s still just a teenager and he’d already lost his parents, then his beloved mother figure, May, dies. His father figure, Tony Stark, dies. And he loses his girlfriend and his best friend to memory erasure. It would be more realistic if Peter has Something to warm his heart – his beloved girlfriend, MJ, at least. She’s a New Yorker, after all. Say, she gets a full scholarship to the same University in New York that Peter attends, so she accepts that because MIT only offers her a partial scholarship or something. And she stays in town to help out her parents financially. Realistic.

    2. sarah lincoln

I agree that brilliant Zendaya is a driving force and plays an interesting character who is a genius, is funny, is innocently alluring, and is deep. But I think Zendaya should definitely return if Tom does. In the Tobey Spider Man movie, he tries to protect his love, but in the end, his MJ states the truth: It should be her decision as to whether she will take the risk for their love. Tobey’s Peter Parker is ultimately grateful and relieved to accept Mary Jane’s love. Michelle Jones, Tom’s Spider Man’s MJ, should have that choice, too. If anyone deserves love, Peter/Spider Man does. And again, too much tragedy -particularly in such a young life – starts to be unrealistic. He’s Got to at least have MJ.

    3. Chase

Perfect time to intro Black Cat

      1. sarah lincoln

Why is it the allegedly “perfect time” to introduce Black Cat? Another female character could be interesting. But not as a love interest. Women are not expendable. MJ should return and prominently feature.

  5. sarah lincoln

Fantastic, multi-talented Zendaya aced the assignment in her role as MJ in Spider Man. The director, Jon Watts (for some reason), told her to act like the cartoon character, “Darla,” from Beavis and Butthead! Even Aunt May smiles more. SMH Still, Zendaya’s comedic timing & humor shine through. And Andrew Garfield stated that it was brilliant Zendaya’s idea to improv and throw bread at his Spider Man instead of grabbing a knife or a candlestick (something hard) as the script directed. He said he had so much fun because they were all playing like children on the set during that scene. Andrew, a great actor himself, also stated that it was Zendaya who also improved the gentle, “Are you ok?” to him when his Spider Man is overwhelmed after saving her. The script did not call for MJ to say anything there, but it’s clear her saying it added depth to the scene. Andrew wonderfully played along and in answer to her concerned query, merely nods, too overcome to speak.

    1. Ribmart

For the love of Zeus please stop saying fantastic multi-talented actress Zendaya. I agree with you but good lord you spam it in every post, it’s so cringe.

      1. sarah lincoln

Well, I’m more of an Apollo devotee, but ok. LOL Don’t mean to be cringe, but for the love of Poseiden, I wish biased folk wouldn’t make objective people feel compelled to overcompensate a little. Can you believe the title of the nonsensical article? It’s literally pretending the same Millions of fans who just spent 2 Cajillion dollars on NWH, allegedly don’t like the idea of her in Spidey4. Ridiculous! We love Zendaya. And we look forward to her having a sky-reaching, positive arc. She starts stylin’ in college – for one. lol

  6. Strawberry🍓

Unfortunately I don’t think most Marvel fans liked Zendaya as MJ. It’s quite similar to people taking issue with any fictional character being non-white. It is unfortunate in 2022 that we are having this discussion and even more so when we are talking about a story with a multi verse. Which let’s be clear the multi verse was introduced with Miles in the newest animated version of the multi verse. Stories change and new characters appear in a version we never expected. If they were to make the character trans that’s up for discussion because that is way out the norm.

    1. sarah lincoln

Actually, I think most fans DO like Zendaya as MJ. They voted with their wallets and pocketbooks. No Way Home made 2 Billion dollars! During a Pandemic! And that’s not counting China! Zendaya has 141 Million Instagram followers because of her brilliance, humor, wholesomeness, kindness, and mult-talented genius. That’s nearly twice as many as her beloved, also brilliant Tom Holland has. And he happily admits it.

  7. Nick

The idea that some fans think they would drop mj for part 4 is so stupid. Pete reconnecting with the gang is the whole point of the next movie. The only disappearing No Way Home was trying to provide was the MCU from Sony if things go sour in the future.

    1. sarah lincoln

Well I hope things go as swimmingly – or even better- for the new trilogy. The MCU/SONY collaboration was so successful, I should think they’d want to continue. Whatever happens, I hope Tom & Zendaya are there to reap the benefits. They should be able to retire afterwards (or have a long hiatus) during which they have a beautiful wedding and start their family.

  8. Superman not Gay

I hope they do bring back Zendaya because if they don’t it’ll leave the question unanswered about Peter Parker finding MJ and seeing if love truly transcends through time and space. While all at the same time revived the other spider man movies and probably get the sinister 6th that we’re all waiting for

  9. Juny

I’m an old school true Marvel comics fan and would love for the real Mary Jane Watson to appear. I find both Zendaya and the fake Ned to be annoying.

    1. Dylan reeder

Who the hell is the real “mj” lmao get out of here with that bull crap

      1. Ben S

Zendaya’s MJ is nothing like the MJ in the comics. That’s what they mean by “real MJ”

        1. sarah lincoln

Actually, Zendaya’s MJ is canon. The great TV Spider Man cartoon many years ago featured Michelle Jones (MJ). She is Peter’s brilliant lab partner and good friend. And she is a beautiful black girl. Like Zendaya. This. Could. Be. Epic.

      2. sarah lincoln

And Michelle Jones (MJ) is canon. In the great TV Spider Man cartoon, Michelle is Peter Parker’s brilliant lab partner and good friend. She is also a beautiful black girl like Zendaya, too.

    2. sarah lincoln

?! Juny, In This layer of the multiverse, Michelle Jones IS the MJ, remember? And Michelle Jones (MJ) is canon. The great TV Spider Man cartoon many years ago, featured Michelle Jones (MJ). She is Peter’s brilliant lab partner and good friend. And she is a beautiful black girl, like Zendaya, too. I see her in Spider Man4 as more positive and stylish in college. She’s a cheerleader even. Ned teases her about her school spirit at the end of NWH.

  10. ZombArthur

Load of crap. Zendya does a fine job. I’m more worried about Tom Holland wanting to call it quits. They need to back a few Brinks trucks up to their pad and dump ALL the money on them.

    1. sarah lincoln

LOL ZombArthur, I heartily concur. They should pay Tom and Zendaya a boatload upfront and give them at least a small percentage of the backend, too. And more stunt double work. We want Zendaya and Tom hale and hearty for the rest of the trilogy. They should make enough to retire on and start their family!

  11. Bunny

If either of MJ or Ned should stay, Ned. Ned not being great friends with Peter is a perfect way to lead into him becoming his comic book villain counterpart, the Hobgoblin.

    1. sarah lincoln

I like Jacob Batalon. And I adore Zendaya. It would be nice if they could both return.

  12. Andrew

The MCU should be looking to incorporate The Silver Surfer, The Fantastic Four, and AT A MINIMUM Wolverine if not the X-Men into the fold soon. Not the disaster that the FF4 reboot brought. Find some decent actors/actresses like the first group with Ioan Guilliford (whatever), Alba, Evans and Chikles. They worked.

    1. Dylan reeder

The fantastic 4 is crap. Hard pass

  13. Brennen

Everyone don’t wanna my favorite beautiful actress zendaya leave quit to spider man 4, I wanted her 4th movie spider man 4.

  14. Carlos Vinson

Are you kidding me right now, what is wrong with you ppl. Tom is a good actor but the movie would have not been as good without his co stars. YOU REALLY NEED TO STOP AND FIND SOMERHING ELSE BETTER TO DO. Them mess with Spiderman movies that are doing just fine without your input about who you think shouldn’t come back. I say this all the time and I’ll keep saying it. IF YOU WANT A MOVIE YOUR WAY PAY FOR IT, GET THE RIGHTS TO SPIDERMAN AND MAKE YOUR WAY. UNTIL THEN BACK THE HELL UP AND LET US TRUE SPIDER-MAN FANS ENJOY THE MOVIES THAT COMES OUT. THANKS

    1. Oakley

THANK YOU finally someone who gets it

  15. Sarah

Zendaya is a great actress she is a perfect Mj for Tom Holland and she deserves to continue to be Mj.

  16. Sarah

Zendaya is a great actress she did amazing in Spider-Man and definitely should be in another. Tom Holland is perfect with her and I love there relationship with each other.

  17. sarah lincoln

LOL I heartily concur. Pay ’em loads upfront and then give them some of the back end, too. And more stunt double work. We want Tom & Zendaya hale and hearty for the next one, too!

  18. sarah lincoln

I agree, Sam. MJ and Ned for Spidey4!
