Of course I feel for the family but, if you are aware that your child is grossly overweight why in the world would you think any ride would be safe for him. It goes back to parents taking responsibility!!
First, 100% this is a sad tragedy, he was only 14 and it should have never happened. However, I am not justifying anything, but they were in a bad position. They had already told him no (that was in the 1st story when it happened). So it was either say no and mention his weight and have a lawsuit for that, or let him ride because he was persistent. They had no way of knowing what would happen. Realistically, the ride should have had a belt over his lap and between his legs. Common sense says gravity could have done this to anyone, no matter the size. He had told his friend the seat didn’t feel right, and he wasn’t the only one who said it. Granted he was big, but his size was not the problem. The construction of the ride was and is the problem.
No, the operator had manually adjusted his seat so he could fit, due to the boys size. That’s why he slipped out. The operator wasn’t allowed to manually adjust any of the seats. It made it unsafe.
With respect, the ride operators of that ride NEVER said no. He’d been refused on 2 other rides at the park BUT the free fall ride operators allowed him on this one.
Get you facts straight. That ride never told him no. 2 other rides told him no. He was 14 years old and what 14 year old do you know have good judgement on whether something could kill him when fun is involved. The operator was the only one at fault since he did not do his job as instructed and tell him know like the previous operator. Also his parents were not with him to advise him. I feel sad for everyone involved, including the operator who is now experiencing the repercussions of a terrible mistake. We must remember that humans are not infallible. May his family find peace.

The parents weren’t there. Know all the facts before you judge

By letting him ride, they gave the kid the impression he was safe.

The “new details” are that he appears to have slipped out of his seat? We knew that 5 min after it happened.
charge the parents as well
The parents or whoever should be charged with child abuse for making him so fat!!!
