This isn’t new, this is pre-Pandemic, dating back to when Disney was trying to find more photorealistic CGI animals for Jon Favreau after the live-action Lion King movie.
Just that Disney has a habit of never throwing old memos away, no matter how badly they age. Qv. the Maleficent sequel.
(Also, it may be time expiring on a production contract, which means it had to be rushed into production right away, after that long, long delay of pandemic theater closings and Chapek bragging about how it’s All About Disney+.)
No need for Disney to make more live action remakes when they could easily make new animated stories. Look how successful the Disney Renaissance era was.

They could just produce new animated projects.

I am excited to see a reimagining of the Story of Bambi for new generations in Live-action. It will be interesting and an experience going forward.

Yeah, but honestly younger generations would love to see more animated story telling also.
