UMMMM, There is no “Do Not Disturb” sign at a Disney Resort. In fact the door hanger says that they will knock before entering when the sign is out, not that they will not enter. Unreasonable Expectations result in Extraordinary Disappointment. Stories like this give the guest an unreasonable expectation of a do not disturb sign.
This is not a housekeeping function. It happened both of the last two times we visited as well. It’s a response to human trafficking. If you opt to not have housekeeping come as often, or not at all, it heightens the concern and they inspect more. But they still do random checks sometimes if you have regular housekeeping too. They are making sure nothing is amiss in your room. It’s something Florida is doing state wide, not just at Disney. I was told this directly by resort staff as it took me by surprise the first time too (we were napping and they went in the bathroom and turned on lights) It’s intrusive, but let me tell you….as a mother and women, I will gladly allow it every trip if it saves even one child or women from trafficking (where hotel stays are common in those situations). They come in, walk through, leave. It’s very quick. Most guests aren’t even in their rooms when it happens. Disney of course doesn’t outright disclose these inspections, but as the article mentions, words it in their agreement in such a way that makes you aware so you can’t say they didn’t warn you at all.
This happened on our recent trip and while it was annoying (midday naptime for this exhausted mama!) it wasn’t intrusive. He asked if I could just open the door fully and he could see in. He saw my son happily playing video games while I was very obviously roused from sleep. He apologized for interrupting my nap and wished me a magical day. I did opt out of housekeeping since there was only my son and myself so towels and pillows and trash weren’t an issue.
