I don’t think Tolkien’s work has been tainted but the adaptation is so far removed from Tolkien’s middle earth that they might as well have saved half a billion dollars and created their own original fantasy series . I play Lord of the Rings Online so I’ve got to know a lot more avid Tolkien fans who have a lot more knowledge of middle Earth than I will ever have and the reaction to this show has been mostly negative .
