Ah that ride gets stuck from time to time. Safety harness and staff keeps everyone riding safe. Only an inconvenience in the summer time when it gets stuck and you waiting for maintenance staff the get it going again.
Me and my two boys got stuck on that exact same ride. They got us down as quickly as possible. I wouldn’t swear off rides forever but I did swear that one off for the day.
I think that it is pretty crazy to say that you will never ride another theme park ride because you saw a ride that was temporarily stuck and safely recovered. The incident in Orlando was a different story, I could see being scarred from that. The accident at Top Thrill Dragster last summer was pretty scary too, but the odds are still better than any trip in a car so I’m still willing to take my chances.
They will never go on another ride again? Whatever. Shorter lines for the rest of us! Rides break down, get fixed and go again, 9 times out of 10 its operator error! I blame the death of the kid in Florida on the ride attendants’ failure to do their required safety checks. It doesn’t even seem like they LOOKED at his “restraint” let alone checked it! I hope they are held accountable by the park and the family!
Agree but there should be safety mechanisms in place that should have detected the seat was not latched and it was obvious that it was not from the picture. I used to be obese and I saw the pictures I said from the start rider was too large and was not in a seat to accommodate it and sure enough. But the rides are also supposed to be made idiot proof and shutdown if the safety mechanism are not in place. You will never see a ride operate without the harness engaged in an empty seat it won’t allow the attendants to bypass so there is also responsiblity on Slingshot
This article is ridiculous. Ride stops happen all the time, and if anything are an indication of how safe a ride is rather than unsafe. This was just a ride’s safety mechanisms working as intended. Mentioning icon park was not only uncalled for but outright disrespectful to the victims of that incident.
ive been staring at the edge of the water long as i can remember…. never really knowing why. I happen to be terrified of electronshocks and equally deranged by flying seat belts that may or may not work…. spinning makes my cerebellum nasesus and I like traffic lights. i want to ride my bycycle in Disneyparks and Giants can be good. i would also like silks and trapeze, my tap shoes and luggage and diaries (currently in Egypt) sent to my home in Hawaii… more legit music theatre in Disney parks . as a Disney Royaltist who has hitherto not voted in any country really. having said that, it is tragic that that boy lost his life and a lawsuit is absolutely nexessary.
I’m not seeing how this is even newsworthy except to sensationalized it by throwing in a random reference to the tragedy at ICON park. This was routine, that was operator error.
I remember visiting Carowinds every Easter Monday as a kid. We live close to the park and were pass holders. One particular year in the early 90’s my cousin’s along with my sisters rode the Frenzoid it was a boat that would rotate and make circles. this day we were on, and my shoulder restraint wasn’t secured or malfunctioned, I was positioned between my sis and cousin’s who had to link their arms with my holder to keep me from falling out. They wouldn’t stop the ride as we yelled for help. When the ride stopped everyone around us literally threw a fit bc they did nothing. I never rode that ride again, thank God they took it away.
I don’t ride those kind of rides but I’ll go on the roller coaster all day because there’s no way you’re gonna get stuck upside down on a loop when there is no brakes to keep you there and all emergency brake systems will stop you accordingly. Sorry if it offends you Karen
A few of the coasters at Six Flags near me used to get stuck upside down every year or two. It can happen. The local fire dept was trained to do the rescues.
I’ve gotten stuck on a few rides in the past. My favorite was when Space Mountain broke down and they had to turn on all the lights and walk is out on catwalks that run along the tracks. Got to see the back end of all the magic with the lights on. Also seen the back end of Pirates of the Caribbean and Splash Mountain because of it. Very rarely are ride breakdowns dangerous. Most of the time they are a lot of fun.
I was going to make a comment theorizing that these rides that are 40-50 years old are finally starting to show their age, but then I find out it’s a safety feature working as intended. Literally a non-issue.
I’m seriously afraid to ride now. The death of that 14 year old scared me because the his ride was adjusted to fit him which put him in harm. . Now I don’t wanna ride anything
My brothers girlfriend got on a couple years ago and they didn’t lock her in properly. She started screaming at the top of her lungs “YALL ARE TRYING TO KILL ME IT AINT LOCKED. IM GONNA SUE YALL” and when they stopped the ride she got taken down to medical
She refused to get on rides anymore that day.
Article does not disclose why ride malfunctioned or how long guests were truly suspended in air. There have always been risks to riding roller coasters & that’s part of the thrill. Any related accidents are tragic, but that’s not what happened in Carowinds case.
I grew up right next to carowinds, went there all the time. I’ve been stuck on a few rides and my aunt actually got stuck on wind seeker for over two hours. It got stuck more often.
Rides tend to occasionally have issues and I’ve been riding them for over five decades and never have gotten stuck on one. I highly doubt I would enjoy it, but it doesn’t deter me from going on them.
In the case of what happened in Florida, he should never been allowed on that ride at his size. There are height and weight requirements for a reason and someone was not performing their duties correctly. It’s unfortunate that it occurred, but the vast majority of injuries and deaths could be prevented due to rider or operator error.

“Nothing but safety restraints” holding them. So literally nothing went wrong. Morons wrote this article.
Laura
Might as well say “Only a red traffic light was stopping someone from getting run over.” Never cross streets again because it’s so “dangerous”.

Probably a Larson loop, not a coaster. They’re powered, while coasters use gravity.

Same thing happened last year while I was on it, I’m guessing it happens a lot. Not sure why it’s news
