“Fenway Park in Boston recently announced that it would be heading to a cashless experience and this has prompted many other area theme parks to do the same.” WTF how stupid are you?? Fenway is not a theme park, its a baseball park…. And to use a radio station as a source lmfao your pathetic!! I dont you would be smart enough to be a trash man
I doubt this Andrew person even read the article or understood, probably just reworded other peoples work. Smh Cashless systems are a joke much like most the employees of this site!!!
Having cash is a more responsible way of keeping track of your spending. maybe that’s what they truly want is for you to loss track of how much you spent to squeeze more out of you… Its not hard to loss track when your having fun, unless you can physically see your money….
At my local Music festival there recently went to a cashless system. My family have been going since year 1 (over 30years now) it was such a disaster many people vow to never return. And attendance has taken a notice able nose dive. Its a dam shame its a major festival to… I hope any cashless business losses there ass to there competition.!!!!
I hate cashless….like others said it’s easier to track your cash spending rather than debit or credit cards that might not post for a couple of days ,then you realize you are deeper in debt than ever before
These people that want to go “cashless” need to look up the phrase… “coin of the realm”. It means if you are doing business in the United States you MUST take the legal tender of the United States. No wiggle room here, you MUST take cash.
There is no federal law that says businesses have to take cash. Ever taken Uber or Lyft? They only take electronic payments. Same thing with delivery businesses like Grubhub or Doordash. You can’t pay with cash for those either. There are a 1000 more examples but those are the first ones that came to mind.
Coin of realm applies to paper money , plastic money and coins at time of transaction.. it’s all US Dollars being used. Nothing says you can’t say they can’t use paper money. Another thing that means is that if I bought an item for 20.00 and paid with all coins they HAVE to take the coins because it’s US MONEY. Again.. plastic money IS US money. The value on the plastic is what makes it US money, if you go to Canada thier value is different then ours so our money doesn’t work there you have to get it converted.
As someone who has struggled with debt problems in the past, I have found that living on my card is dangerous and sends you down the rabbit hole. I was taught to only take out what cash I need, and if I run out then I can’t spend anything else and have sorted my problems out. Even when I go on vacation, I take out what I’ll need for the full trip and will portion it up for each day, any left over can get carried over to the next, again, works like a charm, and any left goes back in the bank. Anywhere that is cashless is dangerous.
Let me guess, you put the money on a Disney gift card to spend in the park and the card only works for Disney merch so if you have any $$$ left on the card at the end of the vacay, it has to stay on they card and you have to use it on your next visit because Disney will not give you the remainder back in cash. Does that sum it up. What a scam!
Last time I looked the dollar reads “legal tender for all debts, public and private” so regardless of how parks want to do business I feel they have a legal obligation to accept cash. And I hope some people start calling them out on it!
Well then you should use the internet access that is available to you and do a little research. Outside of a couple states and some cities there is no nationwide requirement to take cash.
And as I said to someone else there are already a ton of companies that don’t take cash either like Doordash, Uber, Luft and Grubhub.
If you look it up there is NOT a Federal law or requirement that states businesses must except cash. There are some states, or local laws in states that do require businesses to allow cash being used.
Disney has enough damn issues with their system, to be going cashless. Internet works when it wants. Try making a food purchase. 😆 I agree cash is easier to keep track of. Disney charged me double on all of our debit/credit purchases.
It’s all about the New World Order. The government wants to know how much we spend, and on what. THEY want to control us, AND our money. Their goal is for us to some day own NOTHING. We will have NO personal property at all. My family and I will NOT participate in this sick and evil system.
Read any other great conspiracy theories lately? A private corporation deciding to only use cashless system is capitalism at its finest. The government is not the one forcing them to use cashless systems. It’s the greed of the corporations who know you will spend more so they are to blame.
You can still budget your cash. You go to a cash to card kiosk, put how much you want on a card and you’re done. The card can then be used in the park or anywhere out of the park that takes Visa. There is no charge unless you don’t use it for 90 days. Kings Island was this way last year and it wasn’t a problem.
So let me guess, you buy a gift card for $50, you go make a purchase for $48 + tax put you over $50 so you can’t make up the difference with cash you have to go buy another card minimum $15 Not going get any of my money !
No they don’t. As mentioned in the article Six Flags and Cedar Fair have gone cashless in the last couple of years. People need to accept the payment methods offered or simply not go. Complaining about it on here certainly isn’t going to change anything.
Just means that people from other countries who don’t want be charged extra just for using their card won’t go to places like that. I’m not complaining I’m just stating a fact. Fact is with tourists making up a large number of visitors the cost of using your card abroad needs to be dropped or scrapped or less people will be going to these places.
LOL just no. People willing to drop $$$ and travel international aren’t going to cancel their trip over a couple percentage points when using their credit cards. I give you a B- for effort.
Anyone that travels outside of their country on a regular basis has a credit card with no foreign transaction fees. Or even better a card from a local bank where they will be traveling and can use that to pay in the local currency. Personally I have cards with a bank in London and another with a bank in France so I can pay in either pounds or euros during our trips over there.
I am curious, I go to one of these cashless parks, and let’s say I load $500 on a card to use. At the end of the day I have spent $397.25 , do I get a cash refund for the unspent money? I have no use for a credit card, that’s why I don’t have one. I don’t online shop, I pay cash for everything, so why would I want my balance left on a card I won’t use?
I have a Disney trip planned in less than a month. This is what we are up against…Plane ticket—must put on CC, Hotel…must have CC to book online. Rental Cars—CC to book reservation, Activities planned Disney park…CC to purchase tickets, Geni, restaurant reservation. Airboat tour–prepay on CC, Space Center–prepay on CC. Oh and we wanted a restaurant reservation along the road–CC required to make reservation….Is CASH really an option?
I’m out I was raised that a
a man always carrys cash and pays with it. I never use my debit or credit card for anything under 100 bucks. If my cash is not welcome there then neither am I. Plus it says right there on every US note this bill is legal tender for all debt public and private. I would think it might turn into a legal issue.
So….All you people who hate the idea of a cashless theme park must really not understand how money works. Legal tender is what the Treasury Dept puts on there so you know that it is approved by them. It has nothing to do with the legality of accepting a payment using a paper form of the Dollar. The Dollar is not the paper bills that you hold in your hand. At one time, yes it was. However, once electronic banking was created in the early to mid 20th century (1930’s), the dollar bill was only a representation of the actual money being processed by banks and merchants every day.
I guess all these people that only use cash have a busy time when it comes to paying your bills. You have to go to the bank and withdraw all that money from your account hoping that your math is correct. Then go to each and every one of your creditors and pay your bill. Mortgage, utilities, car payment, auto insurance, etc. I would hate to you. Even if you pay with a check, which is pretty much defunct these days, you are still using a cashless system. Checks are written against an electronic balance that your bank holds, not against actual cash they are holding for you.
I hardly ever use cash for anything. Its too much of a hassle to carry around. I use my debit card to electronically pay for my transaction. This is definitely true at the theme parks. I can mobile order my food and have it ready to go by the time I get into the restaurant and seated with the family.
Everybody says cash is king. Only for prostitutes and drug dealers.
Look at the transaction history during the pandemic. Nobody took cash. They all wanted you to use your card for a contactless transaction. I didnt see any lawsuit happen because a business refused to take a cash payment.
Nobody says that you have to use a credit card for these transactions. Debit cards work just the same and there is no interest for using them.
I agreed with everything you said up until using a debit card. Credit is much better for fraud protection since there is no money leaving your account. If any unauthorized transactions happen it is up to the bank to deal with it and get reimbursed. I never use my debit card but also make sure to pay our credit cards off each month for no interest charges plus the rewards we earn from using them.
Totally ridiculous to just put more people in debt. When you don’t have people leaving how to handle cash it us a shame. Guess this is why our youth today don’t know how to count your change back. Lot of older generation do not even know how to cook invert cash to ass card. I am sure once you do convert your cash to a card you get no cash back from what you do not spend. Just another way for companies to make money
Wow, hard to believe that many people use cash these days. Years ago, when things were cheaper and it only took five to ten dollars to fill your gas tank I carried twenty or so dollars with me all the time. But in today’s world where a fill up can set you back $50 and a meal for a family at McD’s can be over that I just find that one needs far too much money on their person to be safe. I put everything on a credit card. And luckily I have the self control to realize that I’m still spending my own money with a card and it isn’t a magical portal to an unending supply of money that doesn’t require repayment…
