It’s possible to use this in your favor! How you ask? We bought five-days passes for a Monday-Friday week where our new Magic Key passes would not be valid for entrance on Friday.
We used our 5-day passes starting on Monday and if we had converted them to Magic Key on any day before Friday, we would not be able to enter the park at all on Friday even though our original tickets were good and we had park reservations.
So if your first days of your visit on your non-Magic Key tickets offer more benefits (hopping, valid for entrance vs. blocked out), then wait til the end of the last day to convert your tickets to Magic Key.
Have not been to Disney parks for over 2 years (and probably never go back) this new reservation/pass system baffles me. I know it’s supposed to be a way to control crowds, but in the end it only creates frustration and more money for Disney
I agree we were suppose to go in 2020, then had to reschedule for 2021, but cancelled again due to corvid, instead we got our full refund as disney got Greedy & slapped on over priced prices, the park resevation is a farce, before corvid everything worked fine, what doesn’t work now it people won’t pay for ridiculous prices that disney has slapped on, the queues is far longer for rides as they got ride of fasspasses, people just won’t pay the costs when they already paid to get into the parks, as for booking reservations to get into a park you already paid for is ridiculous, with all these extra costs we rather go to universal or elsewhere than pay greedy Bob Chapek he just ruined disney, people just can’t afford to go to Disney now, special overseas families our holiday will cost double just for 3 adults to what it cost us back in 2020 / 2021 disney can keep there overpriced theme parks, as people will just boycott disney
TomC – you are correct and this is a good hack. But in any event, you must upgrade after you’ve entered your final park on your final day with the original 5 day pass. If you had switched to Magic Key on day 4 (in any circumstance), you lose all your park reservations for the remainder of your trip. So you’ve unlocked a great secret, just want to be sure everyone is careful using it!
We bought 4 passes to two parks. Arrived early 7:00 am to get in and be the first to go on Rise of the Resistance in Hollywood Studios. Another day we were early at Animal Kingdom ! We were staying at Saratoga Springs! Both days we had a 1/2 hr delay at the gates because my husbands tickets were not attached to his card! We were not thrilled at the flaw in the system!
When I get to use my magic key, it’s great. But when booking reservations I’ve been disappointed. I bought, I believe, the dream key – which ever is the best key. I’m supposed to have no block out days. But I’ve found out that I have been blocked when there are still reservations available. They block my key and still allow general tickets, without a key to still book reservations. I’ve read the contract over and over and can’t find any where other than capacity or special functions that my key should be blocked. I’m not a happy key holder.
I agree! This is very frustrating! I’ve noticed that they will add reservation availability closer to the date, when I guess they haven’t sold enough general tix?? Not a fan of the reservation system…I also don’t like having to wait until 1pm to park hop!
I guess it is not a friendly easy system. I have bought the tickets and due to all the warnings. I am super stressed thinking that we will have problems when we arrive in 2 weeks. So really, that shouldn’t be the way to start our holidays.
I was supposed to go to Disney World 39 years ago with my now deceased Grandmother. Things didn’t turn out the way they were supposed to, and I was devastated at the time. With everything that I’m hearing I don’t think that I’ll ever choose to go to either park. Very sad as I don’t think this is what Walt Disney himself envisioned. I’d also like to see the company treat their employees better, and realize that the whole concept of Disney is supposed to be about magic.
Get your act together, become what was, and I’ll think about spending my entire inheritance on a few days at one of your venues. Try releasing some of your classics on the big screens like you used to. Frozen, eh, yeah as the song says you can let that one go…Fantasia I’ll take any day!
I think this is absolutely ridiculous! It’s not helping anything! If the guest pays for the pass let them the hell in like you used to. It was never a problem before the pandemic. And yet since they’ve implemented this there have been longer lines and more complaints about crowds than ever before.
Universal theme parks don’t use this system. You buy a ticket and you walk in the door. If the park reaches capacity then your S.O.L. but this is anywhere that you go where there are crowds. If you buy a concert ticket you buy it before it sells out. When those tickets are gone they don’t sell anymore. I’ve been to Universal twice since the pandemic and never seen a problem. Proof that none of this is needed at Disney. How about a suggestion? Don’t oversell your tickets! It’s only out of greed that you do this anyway. Can’t say it’s because some people won’t show up, if you’ve already taken their money anyway. You don’t lose anything if they don’t show up. You’re just being greedy trying to put someone else in their place so you can make more money. If you really care about your guests experience and customer service, you will sell the right amount of tickets and let people in when they show up for what they paid for. No jumping through hoops. Travel and vacations can be so stressful anyway. Especially with children. Make it easy on your guests or they’re definitely not going to consider it “magical” like you claim. I’m sorry. I used to be a huge Disney fan but they have gone downhill big time and I just can’t back them and they’re greed anymore.
I think the reservation system is golden. I learned how it works, and plan ahead. Works great for me. The park is so much better to walk in right now than a few years ago. I’ve heard rumors of upping capacity again. If they make it to where you can’t walk at all anymore (again), I’m done (again). This is way better. This system is why I started going again this year!

There is a lot wrong in your comment, but mainly, I have to say that none of this was due to Crows.

Reservations suck. The whole thing is a hassle. Genie+ blows. Not returning until this stuff goes extinct.

If it wasn’t for all the people around the world buying tickets to Disneyland they will not be a Disneyland or Disney world

Giselle- if you have your reservations set, you’re fine! Don’t worry. Remember hoppers can’t hop until after 1 pm though.
Scott
Gissella, sorry for misspelling! Autocorrect!

I first went to Disneyland 50 years ago when I moved to LA. So glad I went when everything was all about fun. (Sigh)

Why do you constantly bash Disney Ed? Do you work for our murderer governor?

Overpriced and hypersensitive about “offending” people.

Done with Disney. Hope they close their parks!

What? The Redditor’s post lacks information and clearer grammar, so I’m confused. This article doesn’t explain it any better, either.

How are the lineups now? That’s all that really matters in QOL for crowd control on your vacation.
