Before ANYONE comments, I want them to see this first:
I have recently backtracked on my calls for a boycott of Disney, because I now realize I’ve been grandstanding………For so long……..
No boycott of Disney could last or do anything of significance to the company. As big as Disney may well be today, it’s basically PROOFED itself against boycotts by segueing into so many other industries beyond the parks and media. No matter what happens, Disney always adapts and evolves. It may well get rid of Chapek AND the board, but I’d say at best there’s only a 50/50 chance the next CEO AND board will do much better.
Not to mention of it is over the bill in Florida, it doesn’t say what the media has been making it out to say. It has nothing to do with not saying gay, it says don’t teach about sexuality of any kind at an inappropriate age and is one small part of the total bill.
Disney shouldn’t have the right to make its own laws anymore. They have been lying to people! The law that the governor signed was NOT about “don’t say gay” at all. Disney created that lie. It was all about keeping sex education away from kindergarten and earlier grades. There’s really something wrong with people if they think 4 and 5 year Olds should be learning about that anyway. And the walk out? If you call 1 person walking out, then ok hahaha. The people REALLY walking out were the people who were appalled chapek flipped and is supporting anti family, pro gay (can’t say he/she, putting gay scenes in kids movies, etc). So yes, Disney should not get our money until they shape up. It’s seriously becoming pedoland.
And this is why companies should stay out of politics unless it is something that directly affects them. Now there is going to be a lot of new scrutiny over their setup that may cause them major issues long term. Although it is questionable as to if the state even can legally take away the Reedy Creek District ever, so it will be interesting to see how it plays out. But Disney stepped in it big time and this may have major long term negative consequences for not just Disney, but all of their cast members and guests.
Also, betting Disney is wishing they didn’t move so much to Florida over the past couple of years now.
I hope you’re joking.
First, the big “walk out” included a single person.
Second, if you support sexualizing the education of 5 year olds, you’re disgusting.
Any institution, that said it was for kids first and family, are a poor cry of reality, if Sex before when parents , Normally talked their kids 12-14 example, and now shoves it on kids without MO AN DADS, permission, is WRONG. Yes said MOM AND DAD, there is MO OTHER WAY TO MAKE A BABY, let’s be real! , legal license strip, due to sexual nature , if Disney so Continues! I won’t allow any Disney until platform is Gone, and leave to MOM AND DAD!
Waiting until 12-14 isa HUGE mistake. They already know by then. parents are
too “scared” to talk about it When it matters. Teaching them about “sex” actually takes the pressure off the parents and teaches them REAL SCIENTIFIC information at an age appropriate level. you find it hard to accept Change. Honey, your generation is dying. Give it
up to the younger people already. you’re detrimenting other people’s kids overYOUR beliefs and that is the epitome of messed up and entitled.
I don’t blame the company, it’s the people that were pulling the strings behind it that caused Disney to become the way it is now. At least DeSantis, bill is the right way to go forward.
Totally agree. This hateful bill is about making LGBTQ people invisible, with the side benefit of shaming kids who have two same sex parents, and muzzling teachers who now fear being sued for even acknowledging a child in their class has two mommies. Disney has always employed many LBGTQ cast members, so it definitely affects their employees.
But Snadra, look at CLG flaoting towards the OTHER end of the spectrum; the FAR RIGHT. He’s not supporting Disney being neutral, he actively wants some of the FASCIST elements of Disney under Walt to come back!
Only a small percentage of employees are upset by the bill. Most favor it or are indifferent. They’re just scared of the woke mob mentality. More tolerant ? Only if you agree with them. The left are a bunch of hypocrites.
XYZ Gen , are ruining this country! Let’s all remember, “KIDS “ are a product of a MAN AND A WOMAN ,unless maybe, they are ALIEN! Lgxyx##### who ever ! MOM and a DAD , are who and where we all came from. Psych wards maybe should come back!
Very compelling argument, Dave. Small wonder that Florida is known as The Land of Rednecks and Idiots. But I’m sure you wear that label with pride. But, of course, not rainbow pride. Heaven forbid!
I’ve visited WDW regularly for over 30 years and am shocked at their leftist woke move!!!
Boys are boys and girls are girls. K-3rd graders should not be given sexual identification teachings!
I support my governor 100%!
WDW will suffer revenue losses now.
There is no God. God and religion was a made up story for the uneducated to control them. Clg, you are nothing, an ignorant and uneducated closeted homosexual. Be who you are
And don’t forget the fire and brimstone. Yeah, yeah, yeah, we all know the Bible is undeniable fact and every word should be taken literally? And everyone whose beliefs deviate from yours will burn in hell for eternity. Of course, everyone who disagrees with you is 100% certain that *you* will burn in hell for all eternity. If even one of you is correct, the rest of you are in for a really unpleasant eternity.
Governor DeSatanist is not an intellectual match for an average third grader. Such a pity the people of Florida can’t see what a power-hungry, backward-thinking Neanderthal he is. And btw, he doesn’t care about Florida. You’re just a stepping stone for him.
Alright……I’m going to backtrack……..but……Let’s say Wells didn’t die.
Could it have prevented much?
Could maybe, if Wells HADN’T died in that helicopter crash in Colorado in 1994, he have appointed a better President in extensive talks with Eisner to keep the soul of the company alive?
That way at least part of the mantra could survive in some form.
Or was it almost an inevitability that some form of greed would seep into the company with OR without Wells?
And I’m so sorry………I just desperately want Disney to find the ABSOLUTE best path for itself, and I was so alarmed by your comments at that time that I didn’t think they were helping 🙁
I hope you understand
And not to mention I’m sadly on the autism spectrum which meant I took your comments more or less at face value, and just reacted in the heat of the moment.
Honestly, Disney needs a CEO with creative vision, not corporate. Forget the stockholders, forget the board, focus on the guest experience. What happened to “The Disney Difference?”
I think Disney needs to look outside of its internal candidates, like Roy E. Disney (Walt’s nephew) did when he selected Michael Eisner and Frank Wells.
But by the same token, there’s a fine line Disney will need to tread between the corporate avrice brought about under Iger and Chapek, and the purism that almost ruined the company in the early 80s…
I don’t want Disney to go back to the 1960s just because of its current CEO Bob Chapek. I just want a new CEO to come in who can restore the soul of the company, and find a decent balance between the best of the old AND the best of the new. Make no mistake, Bob Chapek is FAR more focussed on the bottom line than previous CEOs and his decisions have caused a lot of angst within the Disney community, but I think all Disney lovers who grew up post-Walt should be taken into account, rather than catering only to those who prefer Walt’s way of doing things.
While greed can be a powerful adversary, so can purism; because I don’t think the Walt Disney Company COULD have feasibly stuck with the same post-1966 mantra of ‘What would Walt do?’ WITHOUT going bust; nor could some of the best movies, TV shows or attractions post-1966 have EVER been made. Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and the Lion King for example are considered the absolute peak of Disney’s animated flicks, and they were all made LONG after Walt passed away, and while Disney hasn’t handled Star Wars too well, they have at least given Marvel a memorable legacy.
I believe Disney’s best bet is to just keep electing a new CEO from the outside to keep everything fresh. I don’t believe every single one of Walt’s ideas need to be executed, nor do I believe all of his beliefs have to be religiously kept alive; all I want in this current stage is for Disney to just stay fresh, both in terms of the parks, and its media output. Disney CAN still make sequels and TV series based around the movies, just as long as they expand the stories and enrich them; that’s all that matters. As for the parks, they should bring back the perks that Chapek removed, BUT they may still pursue international expansion.
I know full well that the world has changed too much for the Walt Disney Company to feasibly stick to the mantra of ‘What would Walt do?’. I therefore believe that as long as Disney can stay creative and financially viable, while still keeping its focus on the audience wherever it can, it should still be able to prosper. They can remove Bob Chapek by all means, BUT make sure the next CEO is both creative and savvy. That is the best way the company can continue Walt’s legacy.
We may have to endure another year under Bob Chapek, but by February 2023, Disney could be on the threshold of a new beginning…….And I think we should hold out that hope. Shareholders just might give up on the current board and elect a new one, and the company might just be able to return to its former glory, or even a new golden era that pleases most customers.
I’m a annual pass holder for Disney , I’ve been going to Disney since it open in Florida, please maintain the Dream , Mr Walter Elias Disney , A Happy Place Where Adults become Children Again, where people are kind, and happy. Disney has the reputation of training there employees with the best customer service , where did that go , now there rude and not nice anymore. Disney now is all about money , and forgot about making people happy, where did the Happy Place go.
Olga, we have to think differently for a while about the Cast Members. Here you have a giant company that lays everyone off when covid closed them up. They don’t make a wage commensurate with the work they do, especially now that they are back having to do twice the work because other employees haven’t been hired back or don’t want to at the same wage. They get verbally assaulted frequently about things that are different in the park through no fault of themselves. I’ve worked in retail management for a specialty store. A job that required constant interacting and helping customers with their project. There are so many things that were out of my control, prices, out of stock (because vendor was out of stock), the color they want doesn’t exist and so on. But they took it out on me, “I don’t care about customers”, why can’t I keep product in stock, I must this and that”. If you’re kind to people they’ll be kind to you. And there is nothing that sooths the savage beast like offering them my employee discount for their inconvenience. LOL! Anyway, none of what is going on is employee fault. They can’t work for low wages when every resource they need to survive has almost doubled in price, food, fuel, housing etc. They don’t need to be verbally assaulted on the job. People are human, we sometimes lose it. But it goes a long way when you realize you’ve gone too far, and an immediate apology is appropriate. I’ve done it.. it doesn’t hurt, and it’s always appreciated.
Disney brought kids in as a Family institution , Walt would role in his grave is “sex” is labeled anywhere in his Co. Anyone , mean any one, reading unless your from Mars , are a product of MOM AND DAD, , woman’s and a man , we all are so lgxyz##%*+ , people , shut up! Until we have a living group that can say you are not of a woman’s egg and a man’s Sperm, shut up , leave kids out of any wrong, anymore. We , are responsible for a kids life and parents who void a kids life should be reprimanded !
No, no, no, Joe-I’m just really, really scared about CLG so openly trying to push all of this overtly religious talk into the comments, knowing full well that some people in the states might not agree with it, and are NOT religious.
And more importantly, I was diagnosed with autism 17 years ago. And I found CLG’s religious talk quite startling, so I had to rein him in before his rhetoric became too unhinged
Oh, smart, De Santis. Dump the costs that Disney now pays on the taxpayers AND send a message to companies that may be considering locating or expanding in Florida that you can’t trust the state not to change the rules even if you think you have a sound agreement.
The fact is that no matter what bill, what law, what conservative, fundamentalist Christian mentality——LGBTQI+ people exist. They have been given Federal protections. They are PEOPLE, for heaven’s sake, and they deserve to live their lives in peace. The sooner that people accept this, the better for everyone—-and for corporate America.
I would rather answer the questions of a child honestly than teach them to erase an entire community of humans—-kind of like how people of color have been treated in the country. PEOPLE ARE PEOPLE ARE PEOPLE—-no matter what they do in their own homes. We need to teach children NOT to hate, NOT to fear people who are different. Knowledge replaces fear, hatred, anger. It’s time for ALL of us to respect each human being and not judge or dismiss them because of our own narrow, fearful view of the world. For you conservative Christians out there, God made these people to be just who they are—-in His image and likeness. Get over yourselves—-you will not enter the kingdom of heaven with anger, fear, or hatred in your hearts.
What is amazing is that some Conservatives do not even know the philosophy, or the theory of Conservatism. They do not realize that Conservative theory is actually anti-American because it is ensconced in the divine right of rule. Yes folks the monarchy. Sir Edmund Bucks the father of Conservative thought was a true Torrie.
Furthermore, the constant mention of WOKE has become the rallying cry to weaponize opinion against groups which had no place at the table in discussions about rights or equality. To say Woke is to code switch from previous terms such as “uppity” n!gg&r, which upsets the standard of one group being on top and ruling the others by divine right. Once again religious philosophy intruding on public policy and culture. Moreover the fact that these people are making governmental policy with religious leanings based on predisposed bias. The real fear is that children will learn in school that what their racist parents are teaching is actually immoral and question their heritage. This is the fear of teaching critical race theory and assorted equality inclusion curriculum.
And can you believe it; one commentor said I was ILL after I tried to call out one of those conservative Christians; when in reality I was diagnosed with autism, so ofc my rhetoric is gonna be kind of fiery when trying to call out these extreme views 🙁
It’s time for the parks to leave Florida. The state has even progressed from joke to punchline. Anything odd happens in the news and all you have to comment is “Florida?” and watch the Laugh reacts come in.
What happens if the bill failed and a kid or kids are taught all about the LGBQ….in school? The kid is hetero, but all the talk/teachings at a young age has him confused. What are that kid’s emotions going to be like? Parents need to suck it up and be adults and have “the talk” with their kids….at a time they feel is appropriate, not when the school, or outside group, deems it so. And who talks to a 5 year old about sex? That to me is just sick! A k-3 child should not even be thinking about such a “mature” topic.

Sorry misspelled, “Burke.”

And can you believe it; one commentor said I was ILL after I tried to call out one of those conservative Christians; when in reality I was diagnosed with autism, so ofc my rhetoric is gonna be kind of fiery when trying to call out these extreme views 🙁

State government punishing a business for simply disagreeing with a government position. I just read this a few days ago … about Russia.
