Really???? It would have been nice to know this earlier. Really stinks. Tried to get the preview but was shut out. I had my phone alarm set every hour on the hour since I first heard of the preview. Then finally when I had the chance to sign up, there was a glitch and didn’t get the heads-up. It apparently was sent at 9am yesterday. But I did not get the announcement until after it was too late to get it. I’m pretty much P O’d.
The new reservations system is annoying. Removes any spontaneous elements of going to the parks. I’m sure there are those that love to plan out every second of their trip. But, many don’t. We’ve been going for many years as annual pass holders, and, like being able to switch parks on a whim. Many head to a park that was having less traffic, and return to another later.
This system and their lighting lane idea are both losers in my mind. May have to rethink our leisure time if Disney keeps heading in this way
I’m with you 100% on this! I’ve been an AP for 14 years now, & have rarely made advance plans on which park I’d visit on any given day — I might wake up & decide that all I want to do is grab a seat at the Brown Derby outdoor lounge & “people watch” while I eat & drink, or I might go to Epcot during one of the festivals! I DON’T LIKE PLANNING MY DAYS AHEAD OF TIME!
They should have something seperate for AP holders. I’m not a FL resident and not an AP holder. I do plan out every day of my trips since they are less frequent and I need to make the most of each day. I like the reservation system for this reason. I do agree with you on the Genie+ thing. Certainly worse than the old Fast Pass system.
Doesn’t much matter when 13 minutes after receiving an invitation email to the preview, and waiting to get through the que, the message appears on the screen stating the “Event Is Full”.
The spontaneous planning is gone. We have friends with annual passes that would go, just to have dinner, of dessert, at a park. Now they have to make reservations, just to do that. This park pass system is going to cause more issues, if it insists on continuing. Without the guests that used to just go, prices will most likely go up. Again. It’s going to change how Disney is viewed, whether as a business, or as an interest. I don’t know of any other parks, that require passes/reservations.
They blocked out those days for passholders to account for the preview. This was done before the sign-up started. They didn’t need a park reservation, just like with Remy, because Disney already stopped passholders from making reservations those days.
AH, the REST of the story! That does make more sense, but is STILL NOT RIGHT! What about the APs that just want to hit EPCOT during those days but NOT to ride the new rollercoaster? If my Disney trip occurred during that “preview time”, I’d fall into that category — I’m not interested in riding another rollercoaster, but I’d STILL want to partake of the Flower & Garden Festival while I’m there! Fortunately, my next 12 night trip ends just before the “preview”, so that’s not an issue, but what about those that it DOES affect?

I am an upset DVC MEMBER! Disney released the preview with ONLY 2 DAYS for DVC and released it at the same time as passholders. 2 DAYS!! Then they also released it at the same time a passholders, which I am both, however I pay alot of money for DVC. For the Remy preview, the dvc had a registration and them the next day was passholders so if dvc couldn’t get the preview they would try for passholder .. well that was not this case.. when you released it to all three groups, I got kicked out and when I was in the cue I was number 18k in the que. Got down to 11k and said it was full but passholder was still open. Not even getting in 10 mins then said it was completely full. Well low and behold, guesswhat, people were hogging the registration taking not only the dvc slots but also getting the passholder times too!!! I am very disappointed, as Disney screwed up! With recent events, Disney should be making sure they dont piss off ppl that are not mad at them yet.. DO BETTER DISNEY!!!!!
We’d love to come again from the UK, but to be honest, the whole park pass scheme sounds a nightmare now! We’d try and organise a bit of a schedule before we came to the US so we could catch all the shows we wanted to see, especially the night ones, plus also fit in the Disney Halloween show, but it sounds like we’ll just spend all our time queueing! I long for the old days when we could just be spontaneous and decide the day before which park we would attend, depending on the weather!
So this article is partially correct & if the author did the preview for the Remy ride we probably wouldn’t have this article. While the guest does not need to pre-book a reservation for the day they get a preview they will still need a reservation. Just like with the Remy preview, a couple days prior to your confirmed reservation date Disney will put a park reservation in your MDE account. So no they are not doing away with the reservation system, you will still need one but Disney will book it for you. Research is key.
With 3 of us in the fammily havings Aps, 2 for almost 25 years, and ALL of us having our account settings set up, with a CMs help, we still DIDN’T EVEN GET THE preview email. Not in our email new mail, or spam. This is par for the course. I did receive 1 preview email, but that was years ago. And I just happened to be at Animal Kingdom when Everest AP preview was happ so got to do that, with out the sign up nonsense.
I have asked several CMs and Leads over the years about AP ride previews, and several have told be that not every AP holder gets them. I can personally confirm that as I have only got 1 in all the years of holding an AP.
And no one at Disney cares. Why should they? They still got a lot of money for 3 Annual Passes.

The real story should be about how Disney keeps using the reservation systems, knowing there’s absolutely no good reason too.

I did notice this making my reservation for the new coaster. Still make a reservation for Magic Kingdom to utilize park hopping if needed.

Disney didn’t require park reservations for Remy previews.

That’s odd. I didn’t see the email til 30 minutes after I received it, waited in q for 50 minutes and still got one.
Laura
It was full when I tried too.

Thank you, was coming to say alllll of the same. This is no different than the Remy preview.
