My experience at Pop Century in January was perfect. I thought the only problem was the front desk. It took long and too many nissseties when you check in but couldn’t be bothered when we needed coffee. Of course housekeeping came through.
Was there 2 months ago, stayed at 2 Disney resorts and they wouldn’t let you have a late check out They want you out by 11am. However, if you wait til 10:50 to call the bell desk to get the luggage, you can get a little more time
I’m laughing if people think this is a Disney specific thing and honestly shocked people would complain about this. Yes, you’re expected to be out by 11am. That doesn’t mean 11:10 or 11:30. That doesn’t mean starting to leave the room by 11. These same people will complain if their rooms aren’t ready for them when they check in.
So silly to complain about a necessity for things to operate smoothly. But of course they only care about their own experience and seem to not think about anyone else.
Krystal, these day I do find it so hard to stick up for Disney, because of their greed and all the crap they keep dishing out, however I try to be fair, and on this situation your comments are valid and reasonable.
If check out time is 11 a.m. then that is it. Sounds fair to me.
That’s one thing. I put up the Privacy sign the night before my check-out. I had housekeeping knocking at 8 am and when I managed to fall out of bed and open the door, they asked “You’re checking out today?” I answered, yes, at check out time of 11 am.
I then had knocks at 9:00 and 10:15, all confirming I was checking out that day. I was awake by those points but it was rather annoying. The only time I’ve ever stayed past 11 am was when I had called for luggage help at 10:15 and they were running super late.
Krystal, I don’t know about Disney Hotels, BUT I can tell you from personal experience from working at the Front Desk of a Hilton hotel, that unless there’s some kind of big event going on where EVERYBODY has to checkout by 11 or whatever checkout time is, most hotels will allow guests as long as they give advance notice that they need to have a late checkout like as an example, checking out at noon instead of 11. That’s usually not a problem at most hotels.
We stayed at the French Quarter once and the housekeeping was horrible. They also post my luggage and my refrigerated medicine. Never did anything to make it right either. We have had less than great expert at a few Disneyworld hotels. Best stay is at the Yacht Club for us.
Someone, somewhere has a “horrible” story concerning every single hotel in the world at one time or another.
Sometimes those stories are legitimate but many times they’re either exaggerations or cases of guests not following established protocols and then trying to get something extra from the hotel.
When a problem occurs complain to management when it’s happening not after the fact when things can’t be verified. If you’re still not satisfied lodge a complaint through your credit card company.
As someone who works in a hotel here is a reality. Based on checkouts a housekeeper has 7.5 hrs to clean 15 checkout rooms, or 30 stayovers (or any combination of that) That includes the infamous “come back later”, oh i asked for a late checkout, or “oh i thought checkout was later”
Yes guests are notorious for leaving the DND sign up all day and then wanting service in the last hour a housekeeper is finishing up. or checking out and leaving that sign on the door. They dont always go from one door to the next, sometimes they need to move around based on arrival times of the next room.
We need to knock loud…or we might walk in to a sight we honestly dont want to see.
Anthony I agree with most of your comments, I would hope though that the front desk would help you out more for when someone has checked out, certainly a lack of communication from that department to your.
With the tech Disney has,I would have thought that once the room is registered as vacant you should be able to see it, would certainly save you time know on doors where someone has left a DND sign out.
Now days they really aren’t cleaning that many rooms at Disney. Thanks to the Covid excuse they only empty garbage and change towels every 2-3 days with full cleaning once a week (most likely when room is turning over). And no matter what, there should be a policy of no knocking before a certain hour.
The problem is that Disney has a housekeeping problem. Then Disney also has a checkout problem. On your last day, unless you call bagage they don’t have a way to know that you have left your room. The additional issue is that I doubt all those rooms are full at any hotel. Perhaps Disney can make an app for that. Guests are more than happy if they can get into their room before checkin. I get that housekeeping doesn’t want to wait around for 3 hours while guests leave, but then they are forced to rush to clean.
Oh how horrible!!
Imagine, having to endure being at a great place, making memories with your family. Only to be reminded of check out with a ****gasp*** knock at the door. 🙄
What a first world problem.
A maid came and knocked on my door with a PEN at a Disney hotel when our TIME WAS UP at the hotel room!!! I’m gonna go all over twitter and RAGE about it!!
WALT WOULD BE SPINNING IN HIS GRAVE!!!!!
We stayed at Pop the last time and on the last day we went to get breakfast came back and housekeeping had already checked us out cleaned the room beds made and put our luggage in a corner to see if we were coming back for it. It was only 9:30am. So the housekeeping lady just stood at the door telling us we needed to leave. I tried to tell the front desk but they were no help other than telling me yes housekeeping g checked us out at 9:30am. The lady said if we had a problem we should email the hotel manager on the piece of paper that was on our bed when we arrived 7 days ago. Worst service ever!
If you left the room the morning your checkout day and didn’t put the DND sign on your door you can get checked out earlier than the required time of 11 am.
You’re blaming housekeeping for obeying their protocol while you failed to obey the resort protocol. Everyone who checks in gets the spiel about the DND sign and housekeeping. Seems like you spent 7 days at Pop without an issue and then encounter one on your last day which you’re at least partially responsible for, I don’t understand how that can be categorized as bad service.
We stayed at the WorldMark Kingstown Resort in Orlando and had the best experience. It had all we needed and more. It was about 50% less than staying at a Disney hotel.
Last October, we were at AOA with two disabled children and had asked – and verified – that we had a late checkout (noon). At 8:00A, a housekeeper rapped on our door to ask when we were leaving (we had DND sign out). The kids were still asleep and I was actually the only one up. I explained we had been given a late checkout time of noon. Same lady came back at 9:00 and 10:00, AND at 10:55 stood outside of our door, tapping her watch and telling me “you must leave!” over and over. At that point, we already knew it was pointless and had gotten everything ready to go.
The front desk was swamped, but I stood in line to see if we could move up our magical express time (it was several hours later). The front desk manager ended up getting us a taxi to the airport.
While I definitely understand the housekeeper‘s position, she was not willing to listen to what I had to say, and was determined that we were leaving on her terms.
A couple of things you can do if you’re unhappy. Don’t go to Disney. I stayed on sight first two times I took the family and honestly it’s overpriced for mediocre rooms. For what you pay you can rent a beautiful 4 bed 3 bath house with a private screened In lanai and heated pool. Just like being at home. I find in most cases younger kids are more impressed with a pool then the parks.
Just like being at home, that’s not a vacation. Please keep staying off property, leaves more room for us. All resorts have at least one pool. You must really want a “cheap” vacation if you are going to let them swim and not go to parks at all.
When my husband and I stayed at The All Stars hotel a few years ago, the maids would set the alarm clock for 7 am to try and hurry you out. I complained but of course no one cared, they had our money. Last time for me.
Hi, I also was a past housekeeper, at PO Riverside. The desk does not let us know when a guest had gone. We were given a iPhone with our room assignment on it. The rooms mat all be in a row, or on all three floors. We were SUPER pressed for time. I left it after 9 moths, as I couldn’t keep up the pace of 17 rooms per my shift. We are scheduled for 8 hour shifts, BUT….. till we get our phones, keys, and get a ride out to the housekeeping closets, we may have 7 hours to do those rooms at Disney’s expectations. It was EXTREMELY hard some days. If you were not done, they were starting to reprimand you, that was the reason why I transferred out. It is harder than most people think. Be kind and understanding of the housekeepers ❤
House Keeping has got to be a Thankless job..They are awesome and need to be rewarded with a huge thank you and $ Tip…I usually seek out my housekeeper and personally thank them..A simple..kind…gesture can make someone’s day..
This happened to us while staying at Saratoga. Housekeeping knocked at 8:30 AM while we were getting ready for the day. We told them we would be leaving about 9 AM, & to please come back then. The door hangers do not say DO NOT DISTURB; they say ROOM OCCUPIED, so we still received the 8:30 AM knock on the door. It will be nice if all hotels eventually get the electronic check out feature so that housekeeping knows we have checked out.
15 of us stayed in 4 rooms at Wilderness Lodge and Animal Kingdom Lodge.
None of us ever got housekeeping. Not as much as emptying garbage or fresh towels ever👎
We just got back from Disney staying at the all star movies. Our house keeping was horrible. We had to hunt down our own toilet paper and fresh towels. They came in and threw away stuff that wasn’t supposed to be thrown away. We asked for a sMall wash cloth and three different times we were brought huge towels. Our trash wasn’t picked up for the first three days!! We were resting on our day off and we had the “do not disturb sign out on the door” they knocked anyway and woke us all up. It was awful. We finally had to call guest services and complain. We literally had to do our own house keeping by running down housekeeping to get stuff we needed!
Oh and on our day to leave check out was at 11. They started knocking at 9 am asking us to hurry no joke! Then they came back around 9:45 -10 to check again! As much money as we paid it honestly was my first time and I was not impressed. I got better serice at a Holiday Inn!
Absolutely true. We are pass holders living 2.5 hours southwest of disney. We do at least a dozen stays a year at disney resorts and this has happened to us on multiple trips. After years of being pass holders we are not renewing our passes this year because the quality of the disney experience has decreased so greatly
I have no doubt the people complaining are entitled jerks who see fault in any little thing that doesn’t meet their outrageous expectations and demands.
Before covid I had this happen to me at two different hotels every time I stayed at these two places in Arizona. getting knocks on the door at 8am every morning by housekeeping. It seams to be in any hotel you stay at it seams to happen. even though I’m not checking out that day. If you don’t answer right away they will just come in. I would have the do not disturb sign up and it doesn’t matter they still do it. I can’t stand it so I will say something at check in right off the bat. Please not housekeeping and don’t bother me
I have stayed at hotels countless times in this and other countries, as an adult for over 40 years. Chains and independents. More times than I can count, housekeeping has knocked on my door well before the checkout time
