It was terrifying when it first opened. That first summer 2010 the ride was amazing. I remember getting off the ride thinking if thats how Hogwarts is i wouldn’t want to be in there for real. It was wonderful very in your face. I went on it a few years later maybe only 3 or 4 years later. The ride lost its magic, the terrifying version was amazing and I wanted it back. I haven’t been back to Universal in many years!! Hoping to go back soon.
They may have had some small issues at Hogwarts and may have had some changes at Universal Parks, but This place is 100 times better than WDW, who is more worried about making a Dollar than providing GOOD GUEST Services that you can afford. WDW is all about the MONEY $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ and not the Guest
It most definitely was more terrifying, when rode with the lights on you can see the dimentours with hands that were originally used which were removed for being too scary. There is also pess dimentours overall on the ride and less effects throughout the other scenes
I’ve been to Universal twice, and really enjoyed the Harry Potter experience.I plan on going again,. I’ve been to Walt Disney world four times, the last was the worst.I will never waste My time or money on WDW!!!
All of the figures and effects are exactly the same in all four versions of the ride. The lighting design has changed over time which highlights different aspects, but the effects themselves are unchanged.
This is absolutely TRUE!!! I just rode it with my gf a few days ago and it was her first time. I was explaining that very thing to her about the dementors and how they cut out a lot of the lighting and smoke effects as well as I believe there was fire from the dragon at one point if I remember correctly. I rode this the day it came out after 10 hours plus of waiting and I can confirm it is toned down.
This is nonsense. I’ve ridden the ride when it opened and I go to islands around 3 times a year and have watched it change since its grand opening. I saw dueling dragons become dragon challenge become hagrids. With the exception of some lighting changes, the ride remains the same… what people don’t realize is that the animatronics sometimes stop working so it might seem like a dementor was removed or a scene was taken out but really it’s just a temporarily malfunctioning anamatronic, or it’s in maintenance. For the last few months, the womping willow part of the ride has been not rarely working, but that doesn’t mean it’s been taken out.. if something truly was removed from the ride, I never noticed it. But again, the lighting was changed and increased a bit because the ride use to be darker. But the dementor animatronics are still very much there.

There was never any fire from the dragon. It’s always been fog and a red light. The guests get way too close to the dragon for it to have real fire.
