I haven’t seen a snake, but I did see a small gater in the water on the boardwalk near Splash Mountain about 5 years ago. There were 2 cast members watching it while they were waiting for a wrangler to come and get it.
I saw two small snakes sliver across the path on two different occasions . . . one day apart from each other . Both at Wilderness Lodge . We also saw a baby alligator in the water looking across to Tom Sawyer Island !
We actually did see a very small (5-6 inches), young non-venomous snake in Frontierland. It was on the sidewalk close to the water. Unfortunately, someone thought it would be a good idea to stomp on it. It was still alive but curled up in ball. Luckily, a cast member was already on the scene watching it until the wildlife crew came out.
I worked at Buena Vista Construction from 1986 till 2017 I was within 3 ft of a 6 ft Eastern Diamond Back rattlesnake while fishing a retention pond off World Drive !I also seen a 10 foot Alligator while resurfacing the bridge at the entrance to the Beach Club Resort !
We saw 3 at magic kingdom in July of 2021. Two in bushes between adventure land and frontier land near restrooms and third in water of jungle cruise ride.
Not just disney, we seen a black snake near our hotel near universal, just slide across the path from the hotel, honestly just as well it wasn’t near me as I’m frightened of snakes & crocs /Ali gators I would of been screaming
Not the best place to go when you have a fear of snakes & crocs / aligators, as Disney is build on a swamp of snakes & Croc land 🙈🙈🙈
It’s not a matter of a Florida swamp, it’s a matter of people go to Disney to enjoy themselves for $250+ a day, they don’t expect to see snakes everywhere including in their hotel rooms. There are stray dogs all over in California walking around, doesn’t mean you see them at DLR. When I saw the snake at DAK I ran for dear life. I’m deathly petrified of them as the majority of the human population are also just as freaked out by seeing a snake as I am.
I saw a snake at Wilderness Lodge as I was coming down from the store to go to busses. Not sure what kind, maybe a black snake. Didn’t get close to it. It went across the walkway and into the bushes.
WDW is quite literally built atop a swamp. they obviously do what they can but to keep them out 100% would be physically impossible. It takes a little bit of common sense to know that while booking your very expensive vacation there is a chance of encountering local wildlife
I was a cast member when in 2016 another cast member and I encountered about a four to five foot snake going across a walkway in EPCOT. Over the years at EPCOT I also saw numerous rabbits, an occasional rat, a bald eagle, many ducks, various birds, chipmunks, squirrels, a possum and a raccoon. Most were seen after closing. Fun times.
We were camping at ft wilderness and I saw a about 5’ corn snake (harmless and I’m not afraid) I callled someone and within 2 minutes they quietly removed the snake. I don’t think anyone even noticed. It made my day, it must have bought a ticket ! I have camped there 10 times and never seen another snake. Never a gator.
I’ve had 3 snake encounters at Disney. One at MK, 1 at River Country (GBNF) and the worst at Blizzard Beach where the snake decided to share the lazy river with us! Everyone flapping around in water with an agitated snake was quite eh experience!
I have encountered a snake at Blizzard Beach while queueing for a ride. It slithered off into the rocks. Also encountered one in the grounds of Port Orleans, Riverside
If you want to be honest the tourists are a bigger problem than the wildlife. Tourists have tge nerve to call the wildlife a nuisance. The natives beg to differ.
Live in the area since I was a kid and used to work at Disney, same with my spouse, siblings, inlaws, etc. I literally can’t count or remember how many snakes I’ve seen at Disney. They’re in each theme park, and at every hotel/resort. It’s central Florida. If you didn’t see a snake while here on vacation, it’s because they were hiding only feet from you and you never knew. Disney can’t keep snakes out of their resorts or theme parks, that would be impossible.
A very lo g black snake was looking in our patio door window when we checked into our ground floor villa at Wilderness Lodge. Now I always request an upper floor!
No the 3 yr old was taken at the Grand Floridian Hotel that’s when we put the the rocks on all bodies of water on all Disney property where the guests could get to the water and put the signs up warning of alligators and snakes !
I seen a snake while leaving Epcot I was a cast member and stepped on it not realizing it till I felt the smush
And it wrapped around my ankle
Scared me to death I immediately screamed and cast member came to get
I had stepped on its head and broke its jaw I felt so bad
My husband and I were staying at the Caribbean Beach resort and as we were crossing over the wooden bridge at the lake we saw a black snake in the play area. And on another vist at CB we saw an alligator in the lake.
Saw some tiny snakes a few years ago. Leaving the Beauty and the Beast show at Hollywood Studios. Used the exit that comes out by the restrooms near the park entrance. They were just kind of coming out of the holes in the walls!
I was bitten by a snake at Animal Kingdom while watching the tree of life light up. October 2021. Because it was dark, I didn’t get a great look at it, but we are assuming it was a black racer snake. Don’t sit on the ground!
At Saratoga Springs in 2016 my wife was told after walking to guest services from the Padock, to stay away from the water’s edge cause a large gator had been spotted earlier.
Staying at Port Orleans Riverside, walking from the lobby back to my room and came face to face with a snake on the walk way. They terrify me anyway and there was no one around to help, worse time ever on vacation!
It’s Florida. I have several snakes in my yard and alligators in the pond a few blocks away. This is kinda a captain obvious article. I’d you are afraid of wildlife Florida is not for you.
We were at animal kingdom last summer and a family that had a stroller parked against a walkway found a large snake curled up inside when they returned. 😬 we also saw one at pop and cbr near the elevators of our building.
Many years ago we had a snake on our 5th floor balcony at Wilderness Lodge Resort. It was very late at night. My husband called the front desk and they came to our room. After shining a flashlight into its eyes, they trapped it around its neck, and placed it in a heavy bag. We asked what they would do with it and we were told they would take it out to uninhabited land and set it free. Many at the front desk the next morning had heard of our experience.
The grandmother didn’t have a heart attack until well after they were home, not at the park. Never heard anything more about it. I doubt it went anywhere.
We had one cross our path at Wilderness lodge and one was near the boat to the magic kingdom at the Grand Floridian Also saw gators in the water on the boat ride from Ft Wilderness to Magic Kingdom
Just got back from WDW. We stayed at Port Orleans and two different black snakes crossed our paths on the way to our room. They are non venomous, but I’d still prefer not to be bit by one. We made sure our door was closed quickly each time we went in and out.
Which is logical and makes sense. But for those of us who are not accustomed to that being normal and live in cold areas, find it terrifying, and don’t have any rule of thumb like “just walk away” because it’s not our normal – being prepared/understanding the likelihood of an encounter can make a huge difference. It’s not a crime to ask/discuss.
I was a cast member in the Main Street Electrical Parade in the 80’s. They used to keep some of the non-cloth costumes outside on a trailer wagon with rolldown canvas sides to protect them from the weather. I was performing as a Toy Soldier. At the time, the round heads with tall hats were so heavy that they had to be put on first and attached via suspenders to your belt. Then the chest piece was buckled on, so the head wouldn’t roll off. It took 2 dressers to help you get in and out of the costume.
During the first parade of the evening, the soldier marching next to me began acting weird. He wasn’t doing the dance routine and kept banging his head with his hand. When we were halfway down Main Street, he suddenly took off of the parade route and ran through the crowd into the Emporium.
He was waiting for us at the end of the parade route. He said that as soon as we stepped onto Main Street a snake dropped out of the helmet portion of the head piece and fell onto his head. It crawled around his head and neck, unable to get out of the mask. The guy marched for a full 15 minutes with this snake crawling around his face until he couldn’t stand it anymore and ran off of the parade route (a fireable offense for a performer)! He crashed into a display in the Emporium and fell down, where the mask cracked, and the snake escaped. An Emporium cast member caught it. It was a harmless 3-foot-long black snake that had holed up in the helmet overnight, but still…in the dark, with a snake crawling around your head. I still shudder thinking that could have been my costume!
They began storing the costumes in the warehouse the rest of that summer, but we still checked them carefully every night.
This story is amazing and I’m both freaked out and laughing my ass off at the mental imagery of this toy soldier abandoning the parade and running in to the emporium and crashing into a display rack hahaha. I’m so glad that he was not harmed. No way I could have made it 15 minutes.
While we were staying at Disney’s fort wilderness my wife and I were walking on one of the foot trails and came across a nice size, approximately 4′, cottonmouth snake
I have never encountered a snake at one of the WDW parks. (Although we did see a rather large rat at Animal Kingdom a couple of years ago.) I used to drive the Sassagoula boats from Port Orleans, Old Key West, and Saratoga Springs to Disney Springs. During over 8 years, I did see about a half dozen snakes on or near the docks, especially at Saratoga and OKW.
Yes i certainly have seen a snake had a red ring up nears its head. A small one but still a snake. It was at the port orleans resort near the boat launch.
Have seen snakes on a many a trip in the past, to be fair to Disney they are quick to react to a snake, there was a large one outside the Contemporary where the water boat stops, but a Disney Employee was there with a bag to pick it up and take it away.
We have also seen many a snake whilst waiting for the Disney Bus at Port Orleans Riverside crossing the road near the bus stop going into the trees, I think in most cases as long as you keep a safe distance and have common sense all will be well.
1 at the pool at OKW. He came out of his hole and would stick his head up and wave around.
1 blizzard beach about 3-4 foot across the path and over a hill in about 3 slithers. that one caught me off guard cause there was a squirrel playing in the bushes and I thought it was him
I mean realistically disney is supposed to be A magical Kingdom for kids to be kids adults to be back to their kid life enjoy the family vacation the time of their life not the encounter wildlife that can harm them or terrify them or scare them in any type of way I feel as if they need to have traps and get rid of the issue

I’m always amused, saddened, & disgusted by these kinds of stories. Generally, snakes are harmless, even venomous species. Just leave them alone. They’re more afraid of you than you them. I saw a large snake quickly slithering up the walk at Bay Lake Tower Pool.

Welcome to Florida. Enjoy what nature has to offer. There’s no possible way for Disney to keep them off the property. It’s their home too after all.
