You’re a horrible journalist because you didn’t mention WHY they weren’t able to leave the airport..so..why are you writing it if you don’t know the reason why they were there???
Our flight to O’Hare was cancelled but we were among the lucky ones. We were rebooked on another flight albeit to Milwaukee. We finally departed at 10:30 and arrived home at 203AM (303 AM with the time change.). The nine hours at the airport were very tedious and stressful.
With travel surging, rental agencies have far fewer vehicles available to rent. There are still lingering effects from the semiconductor chip shortage (i.e., it’s taking longer for agencies to find cars to replenish their fleets). This also translates to higher rental prices. Have a beautiful day!
A thought – perhaps the solution is to not go to WDW knowing:
1. This is normally a busy time
2. The airlines are short on pilots
3. The rental car companies are short on cars
Going now is a risk, with unexpected consequences (unfortunately).
With all that’s going on, and with the pent-up demand causing big crowds, I’d suggest families put off any more WDW trips for a few years…
I went to Orlando this past weekend and on Sunday, our flight was cancelled last minute and moved to Thursday, we tried to reach a southwest operator but we were on the phone for over 3 hours before the line cut. We drove all the way over to the airport to find all of the flights back home were booked until Wednesday, we had no hotel, no car, nothing to help us. We had to go and pay out of pocket since the app didn’t let us change cities, and we had to choose a city far from home, we left the next day, paid $300 for a ticket that wasn’t refunded back to us, paid $900 for a rental car, and $400 for a hotel, we weren’t compensated besides the small “voucher” they gave us
We were stranded too. Flight kept pushing out until pilots timed out. By that time it was midnight and only hotel we could find was $1300 at the Ritz Carlton. It was not handled well. There were NO hotels. We booked on our own to another city and booked a flight on another airline home. It was a mess. My kids slept on the floor. To they tell people about the great disney trip – no. They talk about the nightmare coming home.

These are not journalists lol. They are home “bloggers” and I use that generously based on sentence composition and grammar.

Probably not the best option for many, but I would have looked at car rental.

Orlando was out of rental cars and hotel rooms. I know because I was there and called around.
We spent 24 hours at the airport before getting a flight. And even then, it was to Oklahoma City, not Dallas.
It was an absolute nightmare.

LOL at the Twit complaining about Southwest Airlines. It’s a bottom of the barrel budget airline. You get what you pay for dude.
