It was disgusting & when the audience gave him standing ovation, they were all so wrong. He should not be nominated for another thing & nit invited BP back next year. How dare he.ni don’t believe his wife was made fun of, such thin skin.
I agree with Jim Carrey. I’ll let my actions speak for me. I will NOT watch anything with Will Smith, every again. What a HORRIBLE example he is for our kids, and this generation. Mr. Smith should be ashamed and should pay some type of compensation for his action.
Horrible for your kids to see?!? How about the bullying before the slap. Kids see this and putdowns everyday at school. Seeing someone against it might resonate differently to those who have been bullied or put down. BUT the slap was wrong.
It’s so easy for people to judge what someone should and shouldn’t do when they’re not in that position. Yes, this is an iconic actor, who is also a human just like the rest of the us, who experiences human emotion and regardless of the public Reticule famous people receive over and over again, they’re supposed to just always “ have it together “ . Who are you to make a statement of his parenting skills as a father. As a man he took accountability for his actions and that shows great character to his children. This world is really something I tell you
In my opinion, the “Academy” should have removed Mr. Smith after the incident and his wife could have accepted his award for him. They should not have let him get up there and give a speech spouting “love one another”!
Kathy spot on, such childish attention seeking behaviour should not be rewarded. Will Smith you need to grow up and act like adult not the potty mouth idiot we just watched.
Violence is neither noble nor excusable. The Academy should have had a zero tolerance policy on assault and removed Mr.Smith from the premises. Period.
Get you your accusations straight. Rock–assaulted his wife ( words )
Smith–battery (the physical ) then words. Two offenses were committed here. Only one bothers people?!?
This is what I don’t get! Will Smith wasn’t right to go up there and hit Chris Rock, but there was a REASON. The man made an abusive joke about Will’s wife! Yet no one seems to care about that point. They were BOTH in the wrong.
100% agree.
Unfortunately, this is a sad commentary on where we are today as a society in 2022. No matter how wrong or vile someone may behave, for some reason…standing up for what is right and standing against what is wrong isn’t even a consideration these days.
It’s just twisted. Up is down, hot is cold, wrong is right.
For TOO MANY, what is true, what is right, and what is just…doesn’t matter anymore.
Jim Carey 200 % correct, what a complete lack of decency, respect, consideration, right from wrong you name it. This society we are living in is so screwed up at this point I have to go back to about 2016 and the Donald Trump era, what he has destroyed in our society and created is mind boggling. Things have continued to deteriorate since and this was just another example of what he has unleashed in our country. In all my years on this earth I have never seen us in this place before. SHAME ON THE ACADEMY FOR NOT TAKING THE RIGHT STAND ON THIS!!! Certainly don’t know where we are headed SCARY !!!!!
Will Smith has nothing to do with Donald Trump, idiot. It’s funny how you blame Donald Trump for what’s going on in this country, when he’s not even president anymore. And, the mud slinging and the egregious hatred started towards Donald Trump when he was elected, not by him. Stop blaming everything on Trump, you look like an idiot.
I bet y’all all democrats huh or gay or transgenders not with violence so if some one talks about your wife/boy girl friend you just gonna letem like a punk huh
No. It would have been acceptable stay in his chair and yell “Hey, man, my wife is off limits” in a serious way. He himself was laughing at the joke until he spotted the look on his wife’s face.
Joem, he ussed that as an excuse for his attention seeking idiotic behaviour. It was just a joke, yes a bad one that was not very funny, but Will Smith just showed himself up big time – NOT COOL.
If Harvey Weinstein was allowed to keep all of his Oscars, then Will should keep his! His actions were wrong, but his intention I fully agree with, if someone made a low blow dig at my mother who also has alopecia and finds it embarrassing to discuss her female hair loss I too would want to give them a backhander. I will continue to watch Will’s movies.
Unacceptable behavior! Will Smith was 1000%wrong! Violence is never the answer and the audience was wrong with a standing ovation! Will Smith should be banned and his Oscar taken away for such Violence.
I blame wills wife, he was was laughing to until she gave him that death look, then he got up and attack Chris. Did he not made the same comment [Will}, a few years back about what Chris joked about?
It was staged. So, now they are going to play out the drama. Well, that’s Hollywood. In case anyone missed it, both were miked, it was clearly a Hollywood smack, and Rock didn’t back away when Smith came at him. If you have seen the still, you can see Smith laughing when he turned away afterwards. Nothing to see here. Move on with your lives and pay attention to what really matters.
Will Smith should have been escorted out immediately after slapping Chris Rock. He could have watched his Oscar win on his iPad in his limo while someone else accepted for him. He should never have been allowed that golden moment of receiving his Academy Award in front of an audience.
First off Will defended his family. More should take lessons. Second, it was played up as a publicity stunt. I mean Chris Rock even made a joke about it before Smith even got back to his seat. Isn’t there more important things like our economy, Russia’s war on Ukraine, and the ever present and changing state of Covid? Get real people. So the little woman has to have a big strong man defend her against WORDS!? No wonder we don’t have equality with this patriarchal stereotype. Jada’s withering look to Rock was enough for that lame joke to land with a thud. Will could have been a hero by bringing attention to Jada’s condition and bravery but now it’s all about him instead.
That is what I have been thinking! Where was female empowerment in this moment?? Jada is not a delicate little thing…she is a proud, confident woman who never struck me as NEEDING a man to defend her. You can be married and still be able to defend yourself. Gender equality is the goal, right?

He was so wrong and very unprofessional. He doesn’t deserve the Oscar. Jim Carrey is so right about Hollywood.

Everyone ignoring Rock’s insult n bullying but no one digusted by that verbal putdown?!
I thought it was class all around except the slap which shouldn’t have happened.
Rock apologizing, not suing. Jada not throwing a hissy fit.
Husband standing up for his wife AND apologizing as well which seemed heart felt to me.
PS the Academy did punish and ban him for 10 years…consequences to his career on hold. The award was for a performance already done earned.
