I recommend avoiding the ride. I have never felt that unwell. When I came off, my Mother said my face was almost green and it took me nearly 2 hours of sitting down and being completely stlll, to recover. I will never ruin my day like that again.
My family and I love this ride, we have been on both Green and Orange. Yes Orange is more “intense” and I can’t even look at my phone if I am a passenger in a car but I had no issues. Definitely do not skip this one.
Yeah don’t listen to this guy. If you’re not sure, then just avoid Orange at all costs. Not point in finding out the hard way. There are signs everywhere about motion sickness yet people always insist on ruining not only their day but other peoples day as well. The ride constantly smells like puke for a reason. People are just hard headed. If you’re subject to motion sickness, you’re not impressing anyone by trying to tough it out.
My wife and I rode it when it had just opened. I knew something was up because it was a new ride and it had no lines,
and thats unheard of at Disney . We saw the warnings, and discussed it with a cast member and decided to give it a try. I enjoyed the ride, but at the end I was saying, “Please don’t send us back to Earth”! We were ok immediately afterwards, but about 10 minutes later, the motion sickness set in. Still I was glad I rode it ONCE!
I rode the orange ride with my grandsons. They loved it. I knew right away that I made a mistake. I was sick for several hours after the relief of getting off the ride. They were teenagers and I was in my late 60’s so my age I believe was a strong factor.
One thing I have to mention in your article above. You make it sound like all the shows have returned as of today 3/27/22. They have not in both DL and WDW.
Disney is way overpriced and rated. Disney is not what is used to be… family friendly, clean, families not ???. Dad to see Disney World go so left! Disney is now so dirty, worse customer service I’ve ever experienced. Disney’s CEO needs to wake up!
Honestly, I did it when it first opened, and never again. It’s kind of boring, but maybe worth one ride. If you are prone to any sort of motion sickness, stay away. And to think they dialed it down after real astronauts rode it and said it was just like the real thing!
I riden the orange once got off had no issues and I actually went back and Rode Orange 5 more times I don’t have a problem with motion sickness I actually like confined places I enjoyed the ride very much
Everybody knows this ride induces vomiting. This led to Disney having 2 versions. We didn’t know it would induce vomiting when it first opened. Not a nice surprise. My kids were too little so my husband rode it by himself. Needless to say we had to sit on a bench for a while after.
So consider your basically going into a basic version of a centrifuge. I have sinus and inner ear challenges to begin with. I found that comingmoff this ride that my balance was off for the better part of a week. Just know that all the warnings they give you during the long staging lines are real.
My motion sickness is more triggered by visual disconnect (video games) and erratic movement (old country roads), not spinning. I was fine after Mission Space, but Avatar took me out the rest of the day. Rise of the Resistance got me a bit, but I was ok after a short rest.
I recently went on this ride and totally didn’t even read the signs. I got on orange not knowing what I was hitting myself into. Lesson learned, read the dang signs. I am just thankful that it was the end of the day for us. The younger couple riding with us thought they were gonna have no problem. The mans head was between his knees when we were done.
Mission: Space, I’ve only ridden Orange. They told us first thing, don’t look to the side, just straight ahead. Good advice!
I once rode Orange after a yard of beer at the Food and Wine festival without incident. Yeah, it takes a few minutes to get over the “wobblies” once you get off.
I guess I’m not that sensitive, I never got sick, but I can sure see how somene else would.
I am 72 and I just rode MS:Orange after eating at Via Napoli. When I exited the ride I asked the CM what all the fuss was about as I I didn’t experience any thing out of the ordinary, it’s all in peoples minds.
Definitely not in people’s minds. I will try any ride at least once, but I know my limitations. I can ride Star Tours and Space Mountain, as long as I do not ride them within 2 hours of each other. If I ride them back to back, I will throw up. It has to do with both sinus/sense of smell issues (certain cleaners used cause nausea and headaches) and balance/inner ear issues which lead to motion sickness. When my son and I go to WDW I will make sure to save this ride for late in the day, in case I end up feeling ill after.
People have died after riding it!! I think it is worthy to note that at least two people have DIED after riding it. One was almost 50 and the other one a kid. There may have been others. I myself rode it when it first opened. Back then, there was no green version. The ride is a GIANT CENTRIFUGE spinning you at a tremendously high speed to simulate the speed of a rocket. If you turn your head while riding, it could be dangerous. They tell you not to turn your head. After riding it, I never rode it again. Not healthy, in my opinion.
I read the orange once got off had no issues and I actually went back and Road Orange 5 more times I don’t have a problem with motion sickness I actually like confined places I enjoyed the ride very much
If you do not like going around and around in a centrifuge, do not go. If you have claustrophobia, do not go. If you can take both of these, great ride. About two years after it opened my son and I were waiting in the que when when heard the mother of a group in fron of us say she did not like rides that spun. We started to laugh. She looked at us and we both raised one finger on a hand spun it in the air and made air sounds. She looked questioningly at us and I said that is what it does just like astronaut training. Her eyes got big and she said “lets go.” As she stormed off followed by her brood, her early teenage son looked at us, rolled his eyes, shook his head and followed.
I love this ride and to be fair to Disney, they do give you an option on which version of the ride you may like to take, and offer this choice throughout the queue. So should not really be a problem.
100% agree, we did the more aggressive one and I ignored all the warning signs despite being sensitive to motion sickness. Couple seconds into that ride I instantly regretted the decision, you couldn’t pay me to ride that again LOL
My family and I have been riding Mission Space Orange since it’s preview testing. None of us ever had a problem. My Mother even said it was boring! We recently went in Dec. and my grand kids loved it! It was their 1st time, as they are from California. If you are prone to motion sickness, heed the warnings! Not everyone can tolerate things another person can. Use your own judgement! My daughter does not ride this or Space Mt. due to motion sickness. She did, however ride Exp. Ev. and kept her eyes closed the whole time. None of us made fun of her. So, you do what’s good for you!
I sat down and IMMEDIATELY felt uncomfortable with the small space…I asked the cast member if I could please be let out! I had a pretty significant anxiety attack and never went back
I went on Mission: Space shortly after it opened, before there was a less intense option. People came stumbling out like it was a college bar at closing time. Some puked.
My fiance, her two daughters and I went on the Orange flight to Mars. Each of us picked our crew assignments and blasted off. The ride was so realistic I could fell the g-forces. My fiance and her daughters all got sick. Needless to say they could not carry out their assignments. I enjoyed the experienced but had blood in my urine for the next two days. I would think twice about going on the orange trip again.
My two cents. The G’s on this ride are very different from what you get on other rides. On most thrill rides you’ll experience g’s on drops and turns, but they’re all very fleeting. Mission: Space Orange version induces sustained positive G’s; 2.4G if Im not mistaken. It’s enough to make you feel like you’re going to pass out. My wife and I went on after finding the Green version rather tame, and trust me when I say Orange is a BIG step up in intensity. I enjoyed it but my wife felt woozy for a few hours afterward. During launch, I felt the blood rushing effect during the launch and re-entry and executed a hick maneuver to keep the blood in my head; I believe it’s the main reason I felt fine afterwards and I recommend learning about it before riding. Also DO NOT turn your head left or right during the experience during high g’s it can throw your equilibrium way off kilter and leave you feeling nauseous for a day or longer. With this in mind, if you’re healthy and looking for a different kind of experience on a thrill ride, I highly encourage trying it out; just prep one of the barf bags in case things go badly.
I rode this before the less intense option was available. As a single rider, I was put into a car of 3 young guys that didn’t speak English. After the ride, then then knew and could say the phrase “Oh My God, I’m going to die.” Even a passing cast member urged me to sit down because she said my face was just pure green. Never went on that hell ride again.
I am 72 years old and have ridden Mission Space numerous times. I only use the orange side. I have never experienced any ill side effects. Just saying.
I am 62 years old, and I have been to Disney 8 years in a row until covid. Plus many times before that. I go with my son who is 24 and my daughter who is 32. We absolutely love the Mission Space ride, it’s one of our favorites and we always do the Orange. If you don’t like the idea of it, don’t go on it.. don’t ruin it for everyone else that actually does like it. Just saying…..
My husband and I spent our honeymoon at Disney World shortly after mission space opened. At that point there was no green and orange, there was only one experience and it was the orange. We were so ill we lay on benches for a good couple of hours afterwards. Fortunately they later added the green which I now experience regularly. The orange, never again. If you have a constitution that allows you to experience orange without getting sick, enjoy!
I do get sick on the ride no matter what. But the Disney staff members allow me to walk my son up to the mission brief. They always let him ride with a kid his age and they escort me to the holding area.
Anyone who’s fine on Star Tours should definitely join an Orange team to get the full astronaut experience. The trick is to stay in character, engaged, and head up not moving side to side.
Go article, I got sick on the green ride, I felt so bad I just about fainted. I didn’t loose my cookies but close. It took me about an hour to fully recover. Now I was in my early 50s, so my age might have had something to do with it I have never got sick on a ride ever, rest of my family son’s, wife, grandkids, daughter in law were all fine. It’s good to know this cuz the time after recovering impacted everyone else’s time to have fun, waiting for me to recover. I liked the ride. I’m just could not hack it.
Weird. Green doesn’t spin to simulate Gs, it just reclines the capsule timed with the video to make it feel like you are accelerating and decelerating.
I have been going to Walt Disney World since it opened in ’71. I’ve ridden every ride they have added through the years. Some only once. Mission Space I only rode once. It was after my husband and I were married with children. We were told multiple times “don’t look to either side, keep your head staring straight ahead. Otherwise you will get sick.” I did exactly as I was told and had no problems. I don’t recall what the rest of my family did, but no one in our family got sick from riding it. Having said that, I will say that I have never ridden it again. But I did experience it the one time and it was awesome.
Heed the warnings, follow directions and you should be okay, unless you have other issues that will cause you problems.
I could never ride it now, I have problems with my equilibrium due to a stroke. But I know that! There are other rides that are much milder than this that cause me issues. You just have to use your brain! If in doubt, don’t!
I too agree that this ride should be avoided. I rode it once many years ago and I thought I was going to die. I sat outside afterward trying to gather myself. I ended up having to leave the park and spent the rest of the day in bed.
How is this news again? They have had orange and green forever. I would like a Mission Red.
This has been covered before like 15 years ago. Orange only pulls like 2.4 Gs, Green is simulated by reclining the capsule with no spinning (when it reopened in 2017.)
There was no wait once and I rode this eight times I’m a row before it developed a line. I really enjoy it, it gives my back a nice crack when the G’s come up, my teenage children enjoy this as well and we wish it was more intense but it is in a Disney park so it is what it is.
No recomiendo el viaje naranja. Hace unos años hicimos el verde con mis papás y mi niña de 10 años. Nos encantó, pero ahora ella con 17 decidimos hacer el naranja. Me sentí terrible.

In other news water is wet.
This is why there are signs telling you orange is more intense.

I suggest not going on the teacups. Rode that once and it ruined my day. Loved Mission Space though.

Yeah, the teacups are the worst. I’m one that gets sick on the merry go round, but Mission: Space didn’t bother me.
