Encanto is not woke enough honestly, they had a het fiance for the main girl’s sister and most of the cast. They also demonstrated a loving and supportive mother and father, which is not indicative of our cultural norms.
Encanto is beautiful, the music is delightful and all the words, lyrics and dialog, is filled with wit. It takes female characters to places they’ve never gone before and tells an important story about being gifted. We love it.
It’s funny eating leftists and the “woke” who actually care Bout stupid award shows like this argue and attack eschother constantly these days. Lol. 🤷🏼♂️👍🏻👌🏻🖖🏻
Don’t trust the Academy for any kind of accountability.
Didn’t they give that POS movie “Bare Back Mountain “ film of the year of some other absurd crap?
‘Encanto’ was the hot favourite to win, ‘Luca’ was second favourite. ‘Encanto’ has won nearly all the Animated Feature awards this year, and thoroughly deserved it. People ALWAYS moan that their favourite was ‘robbed’, rather than just get over it. I don’t think ‘Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse’ was that good, but appreciate why it won a few years ago over whichever Disney or Pixar it was against. With what’s going on in the world, moaning about an awards show pales in significance…I’m not woke, I’m not politically correct, but I thought last night’s Oscars were the best they’ve been in years from start to finish – including the slap.
The last several features to come out have disappointed me. Something just seems to be missing. Soul, Luca, Onward, Turning Red. I had high hopes for Raya and Encanto, but found them to be lacking something. Obviously, just my opinion and I’m sure many people enjoyed them all. However, I hope the studio gets their mojo back on crafting a really good story and the future releases get back to the high standards we are all used to.
Agreed JJ, it is like they had a list of some specific bullet points that they wanted to get into a movie and cobbled together a shaky “story” to tie a bunch of oddball things together. Get back to good storytelling.
I have two kids 7 and 8 they like watching a movie when they go to bed, I set their bedtime earlier so it’s not a problem. They both like The Mitchell’s vs The Machines, it’s good but gets boring after a few times. My younger son really liked Luca was excited it was coming out counting the days. He would pick that movie to watch at night for a while but after a month got bored with it, both liked Raya but not into rewatching it. Encanto came out they both loved that movie and watched it more than any other Disney movie mainly because of the music. My older daughter really likes Turning Red, my son he can take it or leave it. But from all the Disney movies Encanto is the winner for them, me too.
The problem is that a media juggernaut has taken attention away from deserving films that have more to say and advance the medium. Awarding Disney/Pixar is like giving best picture to the Avengers. Sure it is “good” but it never tries to be great. Their award should be the billions of dollars in revenue they generate for their company and the ease with which they get funding to make another movie. Great animation from smaller or foreign studios gets overshadowed.
The Oscar is an opportunity for filmmakers and artists to celebrate the art and cut through the commercial side of the business to elevate films we need to talk about more because they contribute more. Giving them a deserved award eliminates barriers to funding, allowing more great animation to thrive. Giving Disney a lazy, we didn’t see the nominees, award stagnates the medium.
To be fair, Frozen IS overrated. The take on true love that wasn’t even original when Disney got their hands on it (and they used it multiple times before it showed up in Frozen), the surprise villain twist that Disney uses a lot (which only works if said villain has enough development or a hammy enough personality, which Hans has neither), Let It Go (a song that boils down to “Yay, I have an excuse to be a recluse now.”), and the PG rating which it doesn’t deserve, apparently given because of a joke about foot size (I could say the movie is overrated just for giving it that rating).
Encanto is great and deserves the win. I’m more upset that the writers/presenters dismissed the whole medium of animation as something that kids enjoy and adults have to endure.

Have to keep the woke left and LGBTWATS+ happy… apparently those are the only folks whom spend money at Disney.

What are you talking about? Mitchells won most awards including 8 Annies and was the main contender for the Oscar.
Frogman
But no Annie awards low budget nobodies
Bee
Seems like they’re not fans then?

This is such a poorly written article, I cant even believe it is posted here. So, a couple people were upset that Encanto won. Whatever…
